“Mom! Mom!” Qila called out for her mother as she ran past the bird pen that was attached to the side of their hut. The flightless avians squawked and fluttered their wings, putting feathers in the air. The young Elidae chuckled at the response of the birds but kept on going until she reached the door. “Mo-! Oop!” She had to stop hard to avoid running right into the woman as she came out the door with a threatening looking pan in one hand.
Deidara first looked at her daughter then behind her to make sure there was no threat that needed handled. When she was sure her little girl was in no danger she lowered the pan but still kept a firm grip on it. “Yes Qila? What is it?” Now that she knew she didn’t have to thwack something she could focus on what it was her daughter wanted.
The younger one chuckled at the sight of the pan being wielded as a weapon but said nothing. She knew better. Her mother was a fierce warrior and anything in her hand was a weapon. “I was wondering if you could tell me about the beasts of the world. Is there a way for me to get them here?” She had her own reasonings but she first wanted that question answered.
“What? The beasts..?” Deidara furrowed her brow then blinked a few times before she continued. “Uh.. not here on the island but there is a way for you to get them if you want. You can place and order with one of the traveling sisters and they will bring it back. Which beast were you thinking of?” Now she had to admit she was curious what her child was up to.
“I will need a great beast in the future. I’ve decided I want to become a guardian. Esena will need all the guardians she can get.” She puffed up a little and nodded her head. “To be a guardian I need a beast to ride into battle.” Or if not battle then she at least needed one to be her companion.
Deidara took a deep breath then smiled at Qila. “Child, you have me out barefoot with a pan thinking there was trouble for that?” She chuckled and looked at her daughter with a soft eye. “Alright, we’ll see if we can’t get you a book or something to read about the other beasts. I don’t think any of the ones close by are truly terrifying enough.”
Qila grinned from ear to ear. Her mother knew what she wanted to be and was going to help. She felt a weight ease off her shoulders with that bit of knowledge. Moving forward she wrapped her arms around her mother’s middle and laughed. “You’re the best.”
