▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Class Choice Solo - Prentice - WC 856 (2 pts)
Ilkay stood in the center of the makeshift ring that served as the training grounds for the local fighters. Normally he didn’t like getting overly dirty but this one fighter in particular had pushed a button of his. Yanlin was the boy’s name and he’d said something about Koray being a sissy. Had it been his dad or even Koray’s dad that had said such a thing then he may have agreed and joined in to pick on his little brother, but as it was this was no family member and Ilkay didn’t like him.
His head tilted off to the side so that his neck would pop one way then went the other to complete the action with a second subtle pop. Afterward his shoulders rolled and the shawl that he wore over one shoulder fell down. It was tied about his waist so he didn’t worry about losing it, instead he slipped the rest of the way out of it so that it didn’t hinder his movements. That of course left him completely shirtless.
Yanlin scoffed at him and looked back at his buddies. “Get a load of this.. Thinks I’m gonna run cause he can crack his neck.” He shook his head and looked back at Ilkay.
The hybrid let the corner of his mouth twitch a little, giving the impression of a smirk. “Oh no, Honey, I don’t want you to run. I could use the work out.” Ilkay had always known he’d wanted to be a fighter. He needed to be strong to take care of his little brother and make sure no one could hurt him. The avenue left three options open for him and he was going with Brute. Ilkay wanted to use his strength to take people down, not any special techniques. (Give him a hammer and it just sweetens the deal too.)
Yanlin glared at him then moved in closer so that the fight could truly start. “Yeah, whatever. I stand by my statement. Your brother is a damned sissy. Just look at the way he dresses.” The boy shook his head.
Ilkay took this to mean the boy was jealous of his brother’s fine clothes. Their parents worked hard for the nicer things and he and his little bro got to enjoy them.
Yanlin threw a punch and Ilkay easily avoided it by leaning back and watching it move in front of his face. The other boy had an impressive range but Ilkay was good at dodging. Another fist flew at him and this time Ilkay stepped to the side and brought his hand up to smack Yanlin’s wrist with the flat edge of his hand.
“Honey, I hope your fighting skills are better than this if you plan on insulting my brother.” Ilkay let his brows raise a little, one taking the lead in a pure arch.
Yanlin gave a growl of frustration and went in for a full body tackle. Ilkay grinned and let the contact happen. He braced his back foot and leaned into it so that when Yanlin shoved his shoulder into Ilkay’s guy it made him double over slightly. It forced some air out of him but not much. And Ilkay used that position to hook both arms around the boy by the waist. Once he had the secure grip he gave a full grin and heaved with all his might. Yanlin left the ground and was picked up and flipped over Ilkay’s shoulder. In the next moment the boy hit the ground behind Ilkay, having been dropped to the ground without mercy. He coughed and groaned as he tried to regain the lost air from his chest.
Ilkay rolled his shoulders again and turned to look at him again. He gave him a second to recover before he was on top of him, holding the boy by the collar of his cheap, ugly shirt with one hand and slamming his other forward in a fist to meet Yanlin’s face. A black eye, busted lip, and bloody nose would be given before Ilkay thought it was enough.
He still had some aggression left to get out but it would have to wait until later. For now he figured the lesson had been learned. Ilkay got off the boy and brushed himself off.
“Now, Honey, you talk about my little brother again and you’ll get more than that.” A sassy smirk was tossed down at Yanlin before he also gave a wink to the boy. While he might have trouble seeing it through the black eye Ilkay didn’t seem to care. “You might also want to reconsider your words since he has a Brute for a brother.”
Yanlin’s friends came in close to help their buddy up and Ilkay moved away, his attention going to his hands to see if he’d busted them open or got any blood on them. When it was determined he was still presentable he moved his shawl back up onto the one shoulder and positioned it just the way he liked. Ilkay still had some things to do before he could go home and finish his workout.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Making a friend? Solo - Prentice - WC 1562 (5pts)
He stood, leaning against the wooden fence that surrounded the fighting ring of the training yard, with his arms crossed over his chest. His light grey eyes were watching and taking in the whole scene. So far there had been two contenders that had been taken down by the boy in the middle. It looked like the beefcake was a decent fighter. Ilkay was keeping his eyes on the boy as he moved, watching just how his body reacted and even how he fought. It was an interesting thing to watch really.
When the third contender went down the boy in the middle threw his hands into the air and howled in victory. There were a few on the outer side of the ring that mumbled and shook their heads, each saying they weren’t going to be stupid enough to step into the ring itself. Not with the boy being undefeated so far.
Ilkay waited for a moment, his eyes sweeping around to see if anyone else was interested in going against the boy. When no one seemed to step up to the challenge he pushed off the fence and dropped his arms to his sides as he stepped into the ring. He looked at the other boy who was still on the ground from defeat then motioned his head for the boy to clear out. Ilkay wanted a shot at this fighter and he wanted it without a distraction in the way.
The boy saw him and smiled as he stretched and got into position. Ilkay paused a few feet from him and waited before he also brought his fists up. No point in giving the boy an easy in after all. The whispers that had been going around the outside of the fighter’s ring quieted and it seemed like everyone was holding their breath too. It amused Ilkay to say the least.
“You sure you want to do this?” The boy asked him.
“Don’t you worry about me, Sugar, I’m a big boy and can make my own decisions.” Ilkay replied. He knew that the question was meant to make him hesitate and possibly give up before the fight even started. It was a nice tactic though. Likely something he’d have used if the roles were reversed.
“Alright, suit yourself.” The boy shrugged his shoulders as if to say ‘I tried.’
Ilkay felt the corner of his mouth pull back in a half smile. Not wanting to wait for the other boy to initiate the fighting he moved forward and tested the waters a little. He threw a jab meant for the ribs and was impressed when the boy blocked it. He’d watched the fights from before, that was true, but there was only so much you could learn from watching. For instance, Ilkay wasn’t sure how hard the boy hit or with what amount of speed he could respond to the boy with. That was something one gained from personal experience and he planned on getting it.
The boy stepped forward and Ilkay stepped back, maintaining that personal distance was important. If the boy got close enough to grapple then it would likely be a struggle if not an end to the fight. He had lanky arms that definitely wouldn’t let go, Ilkay could see that.
Another jab, this one aimed at the face, followed by a quick uppercut to the ribs. The boy blocked the jab but wasn’t quick enough to completely dodge the shot to the ribs. A satisfying thud was Ilkay’s reward for that, as well as a grunt and small cough. Distraction was certainly the key to this fight. The boy could throw a punch and he was fast but his focus couldn’t be split perfectly to deal with two attacks at once.
It took the boy all of a few seconds to realize the weakness and he decided to try and end the fight quick. So he launched into the offensive, swing after wing going at Ilkay. A left then a right. He brought his arms up and blocked easily enough, of course it still hurt. The boy had power behind those hits. When the boy threw another left Ilkay blocked with one hand and went for a punch of his own. Crack! A solid hit to the boy’s jaw!
The boy stumbled back and looked stunned for a second before he regained his footing and concentration.
That seemed to wake the beast as it were because the boy came at him with a flurry of punches meant to knock Ilkay into the dirt. He ducked and blocked as needed but the boy slipped past his defenses and caught him in the face. A decent hit to the eye. That would leave some color later. Ilkay felt the sting of it around his orbital bone and his eye didn’t seem to want to open up fully.
After giving a shake of his head to clear it the fight continued on. Blow for blow the two seemed to be a good match. Then Ilkay saw an opening and went for it. He ducked under an attack and jabbed the boy in the gut hard to make him double over then as he did Ilkay slammed his elbow into the side of the boy’s head. Between losing the air in his lungs and the knock to the head the boy went down. He flailed and stumbled before he outright fell over onto the ground.
Had he actually been in a fight meant to cause harm Ilkay would have been on the boy in an instant and continued to beat on him, but this was for practice. It was meant to improve one’s skills or test them. So as the boy lay on the ground trying to figure out what was happening Ilkay stepped back a few steps and breathed in deep, filling his lungs and letting them empty. He was sweating from the effort the fight had caused and while he wasn’t overly fond of the sticky feeling he knew that at least he looked good with glistening skin.
Evidence of that came in the stares he got from a few of the people around the training yard. Mostly female but there were some males in there as well. He was alright with that.
Using the back of his hand he wiped at his mouth and pulled his hand away to make sure there was no blood. It was clean so he sniffed to make sure his nose wasn’t broken. It seemed functional as well. Looked like he might get away with only a nice black eye and a sore jawbone.
When the boy didn’t get back up he lowered his fists and let loose a huff. “You’re pretty good there, Sugar. Definitely worth getting all sticky for.” He smirked at the boy and moved closer so that he could extend his hand to help him up off the ground. “You good, Sugar? Got the wind back?” Since it was meant to be a friendly spar he figured he’d be a good sport and make sure his opponent could breathe and was going to live.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” The boy replied as he took Ilkay’s hand and was pulled back up onto his feet. “You’re not half bad yourself.” He chuckled and motioned to his own eye. “A little slow though.” It was a jest at the fact that the boy had landed a nice hit that would leave it’s mark.
“Yeah, I’ll get you back for that one for sure, Sugar.” A grin was given then. “Name’s Ilkay.”
“Kaito.” Since he still had hold of Ilkay’s hand he gave it a firm shake then dropped it.
“Nice to meet ya Kaito. You here a lot then?” Ilkay was curious to know if he’d have a good sparring partner for as long as he was in town.
“Yeah. You’re new. You want to get revenge for that shiner you let me know, I’ll even it out for ya anytime.” Kaito laughed and shook his head as he brought a hand up to rub at his ribs. They were sore from being hit but he was having fun. Unlike the others he’d fought today Ilkay had actually given him a challenge.
“Ha! Big talk for the one who ended up on the ground Sugar.” Ilkay laughed along with him. “Maybe I’ll give you one to match mine.”
Kaito shook his head a bit then moved to leave the ring, making room for whoever wanted it next. Ilkay did the same. As he walked out he brought his right hand up and gently touched his eyebone, hissing at the soreness. It was definitely going to be a black eye later if it wasn’t already.
“Well this will be fun to explain to the parents.” All three of them. And he could just imagine his little brother seeing it and asking questions. Ilkay chuckled a bit more at the thoughts. It amused him since he could actually say it wasn’t what they would all think. This was the result of a friendly spar not an all out brawl.
“I might come by tomorrow for another workout, Sugar, you gonna be here or do I need to find someone else to throw into the dirt?” Ilkay looked at Kaito, issuing the challenge in a subtle way.
“Oh, I’ll be here.”

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Stating Facts Solo - Prentice - WC 658
After the time spent in Oba, and what a time it was so far, his parents had told him it was time to move on to the next location. Ilkay was used to the moving around constantly. Usually the average time spent in one place was about eight months. Sometimes it was less sometimes it was more. He liked it when they spent more time in an area because he got to enjoy the company of those he met for just that much longer. And if there were any girls he'd gotten close to then he could spend more time with them as well.
Oba was no different. He'd found himself friends and flings to pass the time. He didn't bother trying to find a mentor for his chose line of future work because he knew he would be moving on eventually, but he always found the right group to hang out with when in residence.
There was no warning this time about where they were heading. Ilkay was in the dark so he couldn't do his research. Couldn't ask around to see if someone had been there. He couldn't get a feel for the people and culture like he usually did and that unsettled him a little. It also made for some uncomfortable travel. Ilkay was a bit irritable.
"Ilkay you've been glaring a hole in the wagon for a few hours now and its starting to scare the beasts. Care to share what's bothering you?" His father had gotten either the courage up to speak or just now decided was a good time to say something.
It brought Ilkay's grey gaze away from the floor of the wagon so that he could glare at his dad. A solid moment passed as he realized what was said and what that implied. His gaze softened and he ducked his head a little. "Sorry dad, just trying to narrow down where it is we're going. It'd be nice to know so I can get some idea of the people in the area." It also helped him to know how the locals felt about hybrids. He and his brother were a good mix of two or more and some people just didn't accept that. Ilkay wanted to know if he would need to throttle a few people before hand.
"Ah, yes.. about that. Your mother hasn't made up her mind yet. She needs to go up north for business and after that she'll decide which direction we go in." His dad said with a small chuckle.
"Lovely." He said sarcastically.
"I know you don't like it. You always do your homework about the cities and towns we move to." His dad leaned over and patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, you'll learn everything once we get there."
"That's not really what bothers me." He leaned back so that he could rest his head against the side of the wagon since it was a covered one. Moving his gaze to the side he went back to looking at the floor. "I just don't want anyone to make fun of Koray." His baby brother was sensitive to what others said no matter how much he told him not to be. Not that Ilkay held it against him. He loved his brother for who he was and would gladly beat anyone who picked on him for it.
“I don’t think anyone will bother your brother and if they do…” His father grinned at him. “You’ll handle it.”
Ilkay fell silent as he thought about that. He was his brother's defender and always would be but he also knew that there would be times when he couldn't be there at all times. So maybe he should look into teaching Koray some basics in self defense. Or he could just look into hiring a bodyguard. Either option would work. But something would need to be done for the times when he wasn't there.
(( Here Ilkay comes to realize he needs to work with his little brother on basic self defense rather than try to constantly be around to defend him or deal with bullies after the fact. ))
