Ever since she’d bothered her brother at the forge she’d gotten a look into what the working class did. To say she found it boring and unfulfilling was an understatement. That just wasn’t for her. So she’d thought about becoming a fighter like her sister. Only.. well, she’d not had any interest in it either. Not to mention, Thea didn’t have the muscle build for that. She had some muscle but not nearly enough needed to knock someone around with. Not like her older sister did.
So that left her to look at her parents for ideas on what to do. Her mother loved to cook. Of course Theanduri didn’t mind being in the kitchen and she could make some mean meals when she wanted to but it wasn’t what she wanted to do all the time. That was reserved for special occasions. So as she looked at her dad she noticed he ran a shop. Sort of. It was a not so secret family secret that her dad was a fence. Thea had found an interest in that only because she watched her dad take things apart and remake them as something else so that he could make a profit. That profit took care of the family.
Which led Thea to wanting to help him with his work. Not the taking things apart or the rebuilding of things. Not even the selling part. No. Thea had an interest in acquiring the items that her dad could use in his shop. That’s right. His little girl wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a bandit.
Once she’d discovered that was what she wanted to do she’d set to practicing. Which meant she had to start small. And of course, to avoid getting caught by the authorities she decided she would try her skills on her family! Not that she really intended to take their things and keep them. Theanduri was more honorable than that. At least for them she was. No, her idea was to give them each an item she had to find and take from them. They could hide it anywhere. In their pockets, around their neck, in a pouch. It didn’t matter. Her job was to find it and take it without their knowing.
It was slow going at first. Her brother Dovian was the one she started with. She’d had him keep one of her own bracelets so she could steal it back. Since he was the one in the family that was the most oblivious to his surroundings she thought it would be easiest to take from him. And with her just starting out she needed that confidence boost. Only, it hadn’t worked out as she’d planned. It seemed that no matter how many times she tried he always noticed when she went for his pockets. It was frustrating. Her big brother didn’t even notice when someone walked into a room if he was busy with his work.
So it left her feeling a bit deflated. Until her dad had given her some advice. She needed to practice on something else. That was when she got the idea to try taking something off her dad’s family. The big turtle was protective of his cargo and very aware when someone got too close. If she could take something from him without being seen or at the very least without it making noise to alert her dad then she should be alright.
After attaching some bells to the bags that hung off the familiar Thea decided to get to work. She had a long ways to go if she wanted to be as good as her dad. Or better.

So far her time in Matori was going great. She’d gained a travel buddy in Rydandaroch, which had been unexpected but very welcome. Thea had even gotten to stop by and see her “uncles” Mano and Kyrian. They were doing fine. Which meant she could pass on the good news to her mother when she went home. She was sure her mother would love to hear about them since she hadn’t had time to travel to go see them in some time. She was so busy with work and taking care of the kids. Although since they were older now she didn’t see why her mother couldn’t enjoy more of the things she liked.
Thea had even gotten to swim in the ocean with Rydan and look for pearls. She had a small pouch full of them now as well. Which was something she planned to pass along to her dad so that he could make things with them and sell them in the shop. What’s more was that Rydan had even let her practice on him a few times to improve her skill.
So that led to Thea being in a Matorian market! Of course she had to find a mark and follow them without being noticed. So far she was doing pretty good at it, even for being a somewhat unique hybrid. The person she’d taken note of had yet to notice her so that was a plus. When they stopped at a stall to look at the shiny things Theanduri took her chance.
She walked along and timed her pace with that of someone coming her way. Of course she made it look like she had to step out of their way and in doing so she bumped into her actual target. When that happened she slipped her hand into the pouch on their belt and then back out. In her hand she had several coins that she slipped into her top when she brought her hand up to touch her chest in concern. Her other hand went to that person’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I stepped so far over.” She smiled at them. “Are you alright?”
“Oh, that’s alright darling.” The assured her that they were fine and nodded their head at her.
Thea gave a polite nod and then excused herself so that she could continue onward as she would have if she had actually been walking by. No alarm was raised or anything like that so she assumed she had succeeded. But to continue to make things natural she stopped at a stall and took an interest in the fruit that was being sold there. She had a soft spot for the sweet stuff and so she purchased one.
With it in hand she walked off, moving away from that stall and the market. She didn’t actually stop until she was well out of visual for anyone there. And even then she didn’t reach into her top to check her bounty. Instead she took the time to enjoy her newly acquired fruit and smiled to herself. “I guess all that practice paid off huh?” Thea sounded very proud of herself for that.
(( This is a growth in skill for Thea. All her Prentice stage she's been trying to pick pocket others but has always gotten caught, now she's making progress in her chosen profession of being a thief and taking after her dad. ))
