It was hard to tell where Cherish was looking with the way his eyes were, but his focus seemed to be on the strawberry. He nibbled at it, chewing each small bite before going in for more, gripping Joseph's hand the whole time. His tail swayed behind him, and though he didn't seem to be paying attention to his surroundings, his ear did swivel back at one point. It was the only indication he gave that he was slightly aware of his trainer slowly approaching them.
Trey, on some level, did notice that tiny indication, but he was still a little annoyed at Cherish's intent focus on the food he was being given by a stranger. While Trey wasn't exactly paranoid, he did travel with a literal criminal, so he was pretty well aware of how nasty the world could be. Which meant some part of him was frowning just as much over the idea that the treat could have been drugged, as he was over being essentially ignored. His gaze turned onto the trainer when he finally looked up, and his brow pulled together just slightly at the stuttered question. Well, damn. He could nod, but he could also already feel an awkward stiffness to the air start moving in around them. Which meant conversation might be.... a little more necessary.
Looking around for any sign of JR (and thus, and escape from that) Trey relented, grimacing against himself before stepping in closer and bringing his focus back around to Joseph. "Aye, yeah, it is. Is he botherin' you?" he asked, though his tone sounded anything but considerate. It was more an excuse to follow up by calling Cherish back, hopefully.
Notes to self: "Elvrick Hirsh" is JR's 'Trainer' persona

✧✧【Pushing her way out of the research lab and back onto the streets of Wedgehurst, Eveline took a deep breath and blew out hard as Sonia’s parting words resounded in her mind. <********> That was about the only word she could use to describe the… rather troublesome situation she had only just realized now that she pretty much walked herself into. Lambrusco sighed softly, giving his trainer a sympathetic side-eyed look.”You didn’t forget that gym battles here in Galar are actually televised events, did you?”The redhead didn’t answer, instead keeping her frustrated gaze glued firmly to the ground as they kept walking because of course she absolutely ******** forgot but didn’t want to admit it. She would’ve facepalmed but didn’t want to smear her makeup and expose her scar, so she settled for balling her hands up into fists in lieu of that. Well, so much for laying low… still, maybe this situation wasn’t totally unsalvageable…
Lam, ever the optimist, was quick to offer a few words of reassurance on that front.”Well, according to what I read the broadcasts are mainly localized to only Galar. So it’s not like we’d be exposing ourselves on worldwide television. But it’s still… a touch worrisome, at the very least,”he explained, humming thoughtfully as he held a thin, black furred finger to his lips,”That being said, our first gym challenge is located out in Turffield. That should at least give us sufficient time to formulate an emergency plan.”Eveline nodded, plus they would be spending most of their time until then training up for said gym before they actually get there. And hadn’t Sonia mentioned them getting a sponsorship? Right… apparently participants in Galar’s gym challenge were typically endorsed by whoever was willing to lend their support, though on rare occasions the champion himself would offer to endorse potential challengers. It was strange, because usually being able to participate in the gym challenge didn’t require paperwork of all things.
”Right, I think keeping zee scar covered up and possibly some other minor changes like colored contacts should be enough to keep us covered if we’re going to be on TV,” she chipped in, her mind already working to conjure up some potential contingency plans, ”And in case of emergencies, I’ve stocked up on temporary hair-dye and different clothes to help hide us in public, plus Soho’s illusions should be able to get us out of a bind and help us make a quick getaway.” She was more than thankful to have the little illusion fox along with them, being able to take on a completely different appearance or even turn invisible in a pinch would be helpful in emergencies. Still, she didn’t want to rely too much on his abilities except as a possible last resort measure… She could handle this, though, she wasn’t going to fly into full-blown, hair-tearing panic just yet. Okay, well… maybe she was going to panic just a little, but she felt confident enough that they could at least keep themselves relatively under the radar in public even if their faces were going to be plastered all over local TV. For now, she decided to divert her attention and pulled out her phone to check her texts, the pair of messages that had arrived from Zane a few minutes ago providing a very welcome distraction.

Zane: Oh hey! Good to hear you’ve made it!
Zane: Sis’s out at the moment, but she left you a package with some stuff that’ll help get you along on your journey
Me: Oh? How uncharacteristically sweet of her. Thanks, sis~
ZiZi: Perish
Zane: Aha… ^^;; Anyways, feel free to come by and pick it up on your way out of town. Our house is just a block down from the market!
Me: Sure, thanks. Be there in a bit
Making a mental note of the location as she slid the Rotom phone back into her pocket, Lam then handed over what looked like a folded up piece of paper to her.”I noticed these flyers posted up around town on our way to the lab, by the way. I thought you might be interested.”Curious, Eve took the paper and carefully unfolded in, apparently there was some kind of event going on where any willing participants were being asked by the scientists of Macro Cosmos to hunt around the world for Wishing Stars. ”Wishing Stars, huh?” she murmured, looking over the flyer. From the sounds of it they were offering all kinds of prizes depending on how many you found, and they were scattered all across certain areas in different regions... ”The files I downloaded from that piece of s**t’s computer mentioned that my dad was doing research on these things… Seems they’re related to how Pokemon around these parts are able to Dynamax,” she explained, the bits of loose information seeming to indicate that Samuel might have been exploring more about this phenomenon prior to his disappearance. She supposed they must be super important if Macro Cosmos, unsurprisingly the biggest research company in all of Galar, was asking for trainers to help find and collect them.
”Well, I don’t see any harm in us taking part, especially if they’re offering stuff in exchange for us bringing in these things,” she suggested, already more than eager to start hunting and collecting. As long as there was some kind of reward being offered up, you could sure as hell bet that Eveline would be all over it in a heartbeat.”Perhaps if we collect enough we could get an endorsement from Macro Cosmos themselves for our participation in the Galar gym challenge,”Lam offered, always thinking a step ahead,”Though we should try to secure transportation for some of the more distant areas too, since we’re expected to travel between regions to be able to find as many as possible.”Right… the only flying Pokemon she had on her right now was her Corvisquire, and Zinfandel was nowhere near large enough or even capable enough of being able to carry her around to wherever they’d need to go. She could always ask the Essers to lend her a Pokemon just for this occasion, they had a quite a few capable flying Pokemon between the two of them so surely it wouldn't hurt to borrow just one. ”That won’t be a problem, I’ve a plan in mind.” In the meantime, it seemed they wouldn’t even have to go far to find their first one as the Slumbering Weald was listed as one of the possible locations on the flyer. Which, if she’d memorized the map right, was only a stone’s throw away from Postwick. ”Let’s go, boys n’ gals. We’re going bounty hunting,” she announced, already making her way in the opposite direction of where they would’ve otherwise gone to head out of Wedgehurst. Lambrusco hardly hesitated as he fell in next to her, Gin and Tonic following close behind, the pair a bit confused by the apparent sudden change in objective but eager to do some hunting regardless.】✧✧

✧✧【Upon returning back to Wedgehurst, Eveline blinked when she noticed that a small crowd seemed to have gathered over by the train station where a Charizard was now standing. The big orange fire dragon seemed to be soaking up the attention as it flared its wings and prostrated itself before the awed folks around it among murmurings of it being the ‘ultimate Charizard’ and whatnot. The redhead rolled her eyes as they walked past on the way to the Essers’ place, not paying any mind to the spectacle whatsoever. She wasn’t sure why they were getting all starry-eyed over a simple Pokemon, especially since Charizard in particular was hardly the most impressive compared to a lot of other Pokemon she’d come across. Unless… maybe it was…?”Seems like the Champion’s here for a visit, I’m certain that was his Charizard we just saw,”Lambrusco spoke up, humming thoughtfully as he cast a quick curious glance around town for any sign of the guy.
Right… That would certainly explain it, she supposed it wouldn’t be surprising for the Champion to come by every so often to visit given his hometown of Postwick was hardly even that far from here. That or maybe he just plain had nothing better to do with his time… Walking past the market, it hardly took long for Eve to spot the familiar sight of the white-haired young man standing in front of a modest-looking cottage house who grinned brightly and waved upon seeing them coming up the road. His Altaria, Jaffa, was perched atop the roof of the house, giving a melodic chirp and a wave with one of his cottony wings as Eve and her Pokemon approached before leaping down to join his trainer on the ground to greet them. ”Hey Zane, sorry for the holdup,” she quickly apologized with a light smile. He seemed relieved to see she was fine after giving her a quick once-over look, his cheery expression shifting to more concerned.”It iz no problem at all, I’m glad to zee you’re okay, Eve,”his red eyes slid to look past her for a moment, his brows knitted in slight confusion,”I noticed you coming in from Postvick on your vay over. Did you have businezz out zhere or somezhing?”
”Ah yeah, about that.” Eveline grabbed the folded up flyer from her pocket, unfolding it and handing it over to him. Zane looked it over with a curious eye, apparently this being the first time he’d heard of such an event as he seemed quite intrigued.”Vishing ztars, hm? Vait… You didn’t…?”The redhead sighed and ran a hand through her hair, she didn’t need a lecture about how what she did could’ve been potentially dangerous given the Slumbering Weald’s apparent reputation around these parts. ”I know, alright? I know I shouldn’t have but I had to, spare me ze pedantics,” she said, her tone clipped and curt to avoid any further arguments, ”I got out just fine, didn’t I?” Seeming to understand, Zane simply sighed and nodded in agreement, though the worried expression still lingered in his eyes.”True as zhat may be, I hate to imagine vhat could’ve happened if you’d gotten lost in zhere, Eve,”he stared at her pointedly for a moment before turning away to retrieve a large looking mail crate from the ground,”In any case, here are zome zhings zhat zhould come in handy for your journey. You’ll be heading for zee Vild Area next zo I packed zome extra ztuff you’ll need. Zee veather out zhere can be very unpredictable zo it never hurts to be prepared.”
With a grateful nod, Eveline accepted the crate from her friend, opening it up to see what was more or less a miniature treasure trove of items. A bunch of berries, a blue scarf that she easily recognized as a Choice Scarf, a serving of Leftovers, and so much more that would help to boost her Pokemon’s attacks. Among the items were some articles of clothing that would surely serve to help her out in the Wild Area, a pair of goggles, sunglasses, a rain coat and another thicker jacket for cold weather, some rubber boots, a bandana, and one of those big lantern flashlights. ”Thanks, I appreciate all of this. And definitely tell ZiZi that too, whenever she gets back,” she said as she packed everything away into her bag and returned her Pokemon before turning to get a good look at her new mode of transportation. The Altaria seemed happy to get out for a bit, Zane tended to be a bit more of a homebody compared to his sister so it’s probably been some time since the big cloud bird had been able to go out on a proper flight. ”Hey sweetie~ Hope you don’t mind me taking you out on a nice little joyride for a while,” she cooed as she gently stroked Jaffa’s soft blue feathers. He chirruped cheerfully at the attention, craning his head and neck into her hand.
”Take good care of him vhile you’re out zhere, ja? And definitely have him back before curfew,”Zane chided lightly, chuckling playfully at the last bit before his eyes glistened with worry once more,”Be careful out zhere, if anyzhing bad happens let me and Zenzi know immediately.”Eveline nodded, carefully climbing onto Jaffa’s back and settling herself into the saddle. Making sure she was secure and wouldn’t just fall right off the moment he took to the skies, she took the reins of the Altaria’s riding halter into her hands. She would certainly do her best to keep a low profile, thankfully it seemed like a lot of the areas where Wishing Stars were said to be located were well away from cities. It’d definitely be easier for her to hide away in less crowded areas in case things went south, though hopefully it wouldn’t have to come to that if she was careful enough. ”Up and away, Jaffa,” she called out as she gently squeezed his sides with her legs, the Altaria not hesitating for a moment as he pumped his wings and took off into the air. Zane smiled as he waved to them from the ground, until he quickly disappeared into the distance as they soared out towards their next destination: the Wild Area.】✧✧

Trey waited for some sort of response, but the silence seemed to stretch on, and on. What little light remained on the horizon soon bled out, leaving them blanketed in darkness, but just as his eyes narrowed, and he started to speak, a flash of light overhead caught his attention. "Wot...." His head snapped up and he looked to the sky to find comets streaking down across the heavens. No, but comets-- stars. Falling stars. Or something like that, as one seemed to dive down, and crash into the earth far off. Trey blinked a few times, flinching back as a loud, echoing boom swept over the city. He stepped back, as though the sound knocked him off his balance, but quickly looked over to Cherish and the young man.
"Cher, let's go," he urged quickly, and without bothering another word to the other young man, turned and darted off. At first, he wasn't really sure where he was going, but he quickly decided to find JR, as more lights darted across the sky. His heart pounded in his chest, but his expression remained controlled, and determined. The world wasn't ending, this wasn't a damn meteor shower upon the earth ot end it. And whatever had crashed nearby, while loud, didn't seem to be sending plumes of smoke or anything out across the area. The problem was, though, while this wasn't the apocalypse, Trey had no idea what it was. And honestly, JR probably didn't either, but at least he could use the guy for what he was good at, which was keeping him safe. Because that was their original agreement, right?
He found JR standing still among hurrying crowds, staring up at the sky with a furrowed brow, his lips parted in a slight frown. Unlike most, he didn't seem startled, at first, but as Trey approached, he could see the man's posture was tense. His fingers curled into fists by his sides, and his muscles were coiled, ready to react in an instant. "Hey!" Trey's voice snapped him out of the studious stare, and JR looked over, his expression unchanged as he spotted the younger man. "You should probably get inside," he stated flatly. Trey gave him annoyed look, and slowed to a stop. Cherish trotted up along beside him, curiously looking around, and sniffing at some fallen objects people had lost in their hurry. "Roight, because a roof's going to protect someone from whatever those things are," he replied back sarcastically.
JR gave him a sharp, disapproving glare, before looking back up at the sky. "I think they're just.... meteorites, or something. Maybe not even from space, but just objects." He pivoted around, twisting to look around, eyes scanning the sky. Trey's focus flickered up for a moment, and he got a better glimpse of what JR was actually looking at; not where things were falling, but the sheer amount. The flashes of light had flickered like lightening while Trey bolted, but looking around, he could see them arcing off in the distance, some passing overhead, but so many others going off in different directions, falling like bright gems. It sure looked like a meteor shower, but it was clear, these things were heading straight for earth.

As Sable left the Magnoila family's yard, Impulse floated over to her field of view while still possessing his new toy. "Alright, now we can -zzrt- training," the spirit announced before rotating to give the pokedex's lens a good view of the winding trail back to Wedgehurst proper. "Hm... Looks like there's -zzt- wild pokemon along this path, -bzzt- they might be a bit much for your new friend." Sable frowned a bit at that assessment before gently grabbing the device her Rotom was possessing out of the air to take a look on the screen herself. "Huh... Yeah looks like it might be a little rough to train Proto here... So back to the plan of Route 1 then?""Sounds about right. Maybe even -zzrt- head down to Postwick proper." After thinking a bit, Sable nodded and let go of the pokedex, allowing Impulse to go back to floating nearby just in her field of vision. "Alright, and I guess we'll just have to be careful of any wild pokemon on the way back to town." With that, the two started making their way along the winding path.

As if right on cue, the sharp sound of rustling grass was the only warning Sable got before a small blue bird pokemon flew out. "Rook! Rooki!" the bird chirped in what was probably supposed to be a threatening fashion, but was far too high-pitched to come off as anything but a cute cry for attention. "I'm guessing you want a battle, little guy?" Sable's rhetorical question was met with a few dive bombs from the bird, none of them actually coming near enough to threaten the teen if she stayed where she was but the swoops were effectively blocking her path. "Dee! Rookidee!""Seems like he -bzz- won't take now for an answer," Impulse added not-so-helpfully. "Looks like it-zzt- a common thing for rookidee. They'll challenge any -bzzrt- opponent they can, even if they're at a -zzt- disadvantage. Win or lose, they'll still learn -bzz- something from the fight itself."
Sable chuckled at Impulse's summary of the pokedex's listing for the bird pokemon. "Sounds like my kind of pokemon," the teen commented as she unclipped one of the balls on her belt. "So let's give him a good battle. Come on out, Proto!" With that, Sable tossed the ball out in front of her, letting out what looked like some sort of metal bunny. "Alright, this is your first fight so let's see what you can do!" In spite of the trainer's encouragement, the robotic rabbit just... Sat there, watching the Rookidee with unblinking eyes. "...Bit of a slow starter, are you? That's fine, it's your first fight so-""Rooooook!" Not daunted in the slightest by his opponent, the small bird interrupted Sable's encouragement by swooping down to bash into the cybun. The solid hit knocked the artificial pokemon over, causing Sable to wince. "...You uh, were supposed to try and dodge that..." Sable muttered as her partner finally started moving, if only to sit back up. "Right, try a Barrage before it comes back for another pass!" she commanded, to which Proto opened its mouth and several metallic pellets shot out. Even though the rookidee landed to nimbly hop about in an attempt to dodge, it still got hit by several pellets.
"Alright, nice shot!" Sable cheered, one hand clenched with excitement into a tight fist near her chest while the other reached for one of the empty balls on her belt. "Looks like you stunned him, so now it's my turn!" With that she tossed the pokeball at the small bird pokemon, hitting it square on the forehead. The ball opened briefly to suck the Rookidee inside, then shut and plopped to the ground with a soft thump. Once, twice, the ball wobbled, but then the lock shut with an audible click. "...Did that do it?" Sable asked, not having captured a pokemon before. She knew roughly what to do, weaken a wild pokemon and throw a ball, but given how rare wild pokemon were in her home region this was her first time actually trying to do so. "Well, the pokedex is -zzrt- updating some of the information here, so... Okay!" Impulse floated over to give their trainer a better look at the screen. "Rookidee's listing on here has -bzzt- updated, and so has your party information. Look-zzt- like he's part of the team now!""Really?! Awesome! My first ever capture!" Sable cheered excitedly, quite literally jumping for joy as she rushed over to pick up the ball containing her new partner.

New teammate in hand - or rather, on her belt - Sable looked around to make sure she wasn't about to get jumped by another wild pokemon as she thought about her next move. "This little guy got banged up pretty bad in that battle, and Proto took a pretty solid hit too... I guess next stop is a pokemon center?" The teen looked over to Impulse, partially for confirmation. "Yup, since we're pretty close -zzt- to Wedgehurst already," the rotom agreed. "Just make -bzzt- sure you aren't forgetting anything.""Huh? What do- Oh!" At the prompt Sable looked around, only to notice that Proto was still back where it had been sitting, having not moved at all since the end of the battle. "Oh, geeze. Sorry about that, Proto. You did a great job, so come on back." With that the teen held out the cybun's ball, recalling it. "Sorry. Even with the jump-zzt-art, seems like it's taking -bzzzt- while for it to learn a little autonomy," Impulse apologized as the duo walked the rest of the way to town.
It didn't take long to reach Wedgehurst proper again, and thanks to the trademark red roof the pokemon center was easy to spot. "We'll worry about Proto's, uhh what would mom call it, 'lack of initiative' later," Sable assured as she entered the building, imitating her mother's 'high and haughty' voice briefly before chuckling. "First thing's first." Even though there seemed to be a handful of other people in the building, it didn't look like anyone was in line at the moment. Instead they were congregating around various posters hung up on the walls and the couple of kiosks in the building. "-bzzzt- Focus," Impulse chided as he noticed Sable was already distracted by one of the posters. "Right, right. Um?" Unclipping two of the balls from her belt, the teen went up to the main counter with her rotom following close behind, her voice reflexively going up about a half-octave as she spoke up to get the nurse's attention. "Excuse me, miss. Could I get these two pokemon healed please?""Of course! It'll be just a moment. Please feel free to look around, I'll call you up when your pokemon are ready miss...""Sable, and thank you!" With that Proto and the newly-captured rookidee were handed over for treatment.
To busy herself while she waited, Sable went over to check a few of the posters herself. Most of them were just advertisements for products sold, but there were a handful of more interesting ones for concerts and advertising the local gym challenge. Speaking of, Sable still had to hand over her endorsement to make her participation official but... There'd be time for that later. As the teen was thinking, Impulse hovered near her head and slowly floated into her field of vision. "...You did the -zzt- voice thing again," they finally said, not sounding upset or disappointed, but more just... Sad, almost. Sable let out a hard sigh. "I know, I know." Her voice had gone back to its usual, lower pitch now. "I'm trying, but I can't help it... It just... Happens." Now it seemed to be the teen's turn to sound defeated before she let out another sigh. "At least it shouldn't happen during a gym battle, that'd sound so stupid to slide into that dumb voice and have it televised. Although mom would probably prefer if that were the only voice I used..." There was a grumble of disappointment from Sable, and judging by the sudden crackling of the pokedex's speakers she wasn't the only one.
"Sable? Your pokemon are ready for you!" the nurse called out from the counter, knocking Sable out of her thoughts for a bit. "O-oh, right!" The teen went up to collect her two pokemon, hale and hearty after a good rest. "Thank you miss," she said as she took the balls, her voice still wanting to tend towards a higher pitch but at least still sounding closer to a natural tone. "Of course. We hope to see you again!" the woman replied with a slight bow. Sable gave a grin and a slight wave as she turned and walked towards the exit, clipping the balls onto her belt as she went. Once she was sure they were securely attached and with Impulse floating close by, the teen left the building and started making her way towards the southern part of town. Next stop, Route 1 to hopefully get some training done!

It wasn't until they actually reached Wedgehurst that Impulse slid back out of their trainer's jacket pocket. "I thought we were -zzt- going to train in Route 1?" the rotom asked as they floated alongside Sable. The teen frowned slightly. "I thought about it, but it looks like both Proto and Cobalt are doing okay so figured Route 2 might give a better challenge," she explained as they continued northward towards the town's edge. "Maybe we'll also catch another good partner for the team.""Well, there are some -zzt- good pokemon here, but I doubt any of -bzzrt- others will fit with the team you're -zzt- supposed to use here," Impulse countered, causing their trainer to sigh heavily. "I don't -zzrt- like it either, I'd rather be -bzzt- helping you directly. But rules are -zzz- rules.""Well, the rules don't keep me from at least catching and raising other types of pokemon. Once the teen and her team reached the outskirts of town, it didn't take long for the rustling of grass and wings to begin. Instead of the rookidee chirps that Sable had been growing used to, though, a loud hooting sounded out as an owl-like pokemon hopped out. "Oh, a hoothoot! I didn't know these were out here as well," the teen said as she unclipped Proto's ball from her belt. "Yup, -zzt- and not just here. There's quite a few -bzzt- areas nearby that they make their -zzrt- home. I'm more surprised we're only -zzt- finding one now," Impulse commented as they floated to get a good view of the opposing pokemon. "I'll try to get a good -zzrt- scan while you battle.""...Even though you've got the better matchup..." Sable's frown opposed Impulse's cheery grin and "Yup!" as they got into position.
The teen shook her head lightly before holding out the hand that held her cybun's ball. "This one should be a pretty easy matchup. Let's go, Proto!" With a flash of light the pokeball popped open to let out the artificial pokemon inside. "Same as usual, start off with a barrage!" she instructed, and as with the last few battles the robotic rabbit pokemon opened its mouth to fire off a burst of pellets at its opponent. Unfortunately, also like the last battle only a couple of the pellets hit as the hoothoot took flight. After taking a swerving path the owl pokemon struck Proto with its beak. It was likely intended to be a solid strike, but the cybun's titanium plating meant the attack only left a shallow scratch.
Seeing an opening, Sable called out for Proto to "Strike back with tackle!" before the bird pokemon could get too far away. With a hop the robotic bunny slammed into the side of the hoothoot, handily knocking it out of the air. Seeing that the bird pokemon was dazed upon hitting the ground, Sable pulled out an empty pokeball and readied it. "Great job Proto, now it's my turn!" The teen lobbed the empty pokeball at the downed bird pokemon, landing a hit. The ball popped open and sucked the pokemon inside, falling to the ground after shutting. Once, twice it wobbled... Then suddenly broke open, the hoothoot having freed itself before the ball could lock shut. With a shrill hoot the pokemon took off again, but rather than continue the fight it opted to go off somewhere to recover. "Aww... What happened?" the teen asked, disappointed. "Whoops, -zzrt- guess hoothoot didn't want to team up," Impulse explained, then elaborated. "Plenty of wild pokemon want to -bzzt- join up with humans to get stronger or be -zzz- buddies, but not all of them. Guess hoothoot has -bzzrt- their reasons for wanting to stick around the area."

Sable nodded at Impulse's explanation as she knelt down to heal Proto, but then looked up at Impulse with a sad frown. "...Does that mean that Cobalt didn't want to join me either?" The rotom blinked, then chuckled. "Naaaah, he's -zzt- happy he got a good partner. Just eager to go -bzzt- explore and battle," the electric ghost assured, then grinned. "Don't worry, most wild pokemon are -zzt- more than willing to team up with humans after a -bzz- good fight. Heck, the fight is a big part of -zzrt- why they'll want to team up with you." Impulse floated closer to their trainer while she busied herself with spraying a potion onto Proto's new scratch. "Alright, if you're sure..." Sable muttered, not entirely convinced, as she finished healing Proto. When the cybun looked up at the teen she rubbed the robotic rabbit's head. "Okay, you're all healed up now. Do you want to go back in your ball or stay out here?" Sable asked, and after a moment of consideration Proto gave an answer by tapping their ball open and letting themselves be sucked inside.

More rustling in the distance, more shaking grass, and this time out waddled... A lotad. Their eyes locked, Sable watched the dopey pokemon for a time, and all the while it watched her back. Until suddenly... "...No." The teen stood and unclipped Cobalt's ball from her belt, tossing it out in front of her to let out the bird pokemon within. "Strike with peck," Sable instructed, and with a loud "Rook!" the small bird pokemon dove to attack the water type. "Oof... Sorry! It's -zzt- nothing personal!" Impulse apologized as the water weed pokemon hurriedly waddled back into the tall grass. Not exactly a riveting fight.

As Sable fussed over Cobalt and made sure he didn't take any damage in that brief fight, Impulse chuckled. "Don't you think you were a -zzt- little mean to that lotad?" the ghost asked, to which their trainer frowned. "...Probably. Maybe. I can't help it, that line's always bothered me..." The teen was fidgeting now, with Cobalt fluttering nearby. A concerned "Ki?" brought Sable out of whatever it was enough for her to pay attention again. "Right, you're doing okay Cobalt, so how about you come back now," the teen offered, holding out the rookidee's pokeball. "Ki Rooki!" Cobalt chirped before flying over and pecking at the button, opening the ball to be sucked inside. "Okay then, let's just get back to training," Sable said as she went back to wandering along the path.

As Sable continued along the path, keeping an eye out for any other wild pokemon, she heard a voice call out from behind her. "Oi! Hey there! Wait up!" With a slight "Hm?" the teen stopped and turned to look both for the source of the voice and for who it could be referring to. But seeing only one person back the way she came that looked to be hurrying up the path while waving furiously with one arm... "Hm? Me?" the teen questioned quietly, and after one last look around to make absolutely sure it couldn't possibly be anyone else, hesitantly pointed to herself since the person approaching was more likely to notice the motion than her quiet question. "Yeah, you! Hold up!" the other person yelled, still waving as she ran to close the rest of the distance between herself and Sable.
When the other teen finally reached Sable, she skidded to a halt before bending over and gasping for breath. "Hey... Hey there..." the teen wheezed, her breathing heavy. "Hey, easy there." Concern colored Sable's voice as she spoke. "Catch your breath, then we can chat... Um...""Ma... Madeline... The name's Madeline..." the other teen gasped out between breaths, still hunched over for the moment. After a few more deep breaths the girl straightened back up, still breathing hard as she brushed aside the locks of sand-colored hair that covered her face. "If you're out here... You're a new trainer too... Right?" Madeline asked, her weariness not diminishing her excitement in the least.
Sable chuckled a bit as the newcomer started dusting off her outfit. "I'm Sable, and the rotom here with me is Impulse. And yeah, I've had Impulse for a while but we just started officially today," she greeted with a grin that was mostly friendly... But there was a competetive glint in her eyes as well. "Say, where I'm from we introduce ourselves with pokemon battles, so how about one?" the red-haired teen offered, tucking one hand in her pocket while gesturing with the other as if to emphasize her words. "Seeing as we're both rookies and all. It'll be my first battle against another trainer since starting out."
When Madeline practically jumped for joy Sable let out another chuckle. "And here I was about to challenge you! Perfect!" the other teen exclaimed excitedly before backing up. "But just because we're both new, don't think I won't give it my all!" Once she felt she had given herself and Sable enough space, Madeline pulled a pokeball out from the pocket of her coat. "Sandy, let's go!" she called out as she tossed the ball, which popped open to reveal an odd pokemon that looked like a small sandcastle. "Ready when you are!" the teen called out with a wave, her partner letting out an eager "San!" as it psyched itself up.
As Sable reached for her belt, Impulse floated to get a good view of their trainer's first opponent. "Alright, -zzt- Sandygast... Like they name implies, they're -bzz- a ghost that's possessing a sandcastle," the rotom explained. "Just don't go -zzrt- sticking your hand in its mouth, -bzzt- trust me." Sable chuckled a bit at the warning before unclipping Cobalt's ball from her belt. "Guess that means I'll have to go with Cobalt. C'mon out!" With a toss of the ball Sable's own choice for the battle was revealed, the rookidee letting out a shrill "Ki Rooki!" as he flew into position. "Alright, start off with hone claws!" At his trainer's command Cobalt's talons began to glow faintly as the energy seemed to sharpen them.
"Uh oh, looks like they're prepping for a big strike," Madeline commented before pointing at the rookidee. "Throw them off with astonish!" The sandygast vanished from sight, only to reappear just as suddenly right in front of Cobalt's face with a loud shriek. The small bird pokemon was knocked back by the attack but managed to keep itself aloft, circling to come back and strike. "You alright there?" Sable asked, then smirked when the little blue bird gave a loud chirp to confirm. "Alright, time to go on a power trip!""Dee! Rookidee!" Cobalt swooped down to collide with the sandygast, landing a solid strike and knocking the possessed sandcastle back. "San... Dy..." The ghost wasn't quite as sturdy as their opponent and slumped to the ground, the sand starting to spread. "Oof, that's gonna be a problem," Madeline said with a slight groan, then pointed the sandygast's ball at it to recall the downed pokemon. "Rest up, Sandy!"

"Great job Cobalt, let's keep it going!" Sable cheered as her rookidee circled back into position. At the same time, Madeline grimaced as she pulled out the ball containing her next pokemon. "Once they start, rookidee won't stop until the battle's done," the teen said as she tossed the ball up into the air. "Still, let's give it a go Cotton!" With a loud, musical chirp, out popped a swablu ready for a fight. "Keep your distance and use your disarming voice!""Swablu!" At its trainer's command, Cotton flew to try and get a good shot, but Sable wasn't about to let that happen. "Close in for another power trip!" the redhead commanded, to which Cobalt let out a loud chirp of his own before swooping to try and strike the other bird pokemon. For a moment the two flew around one another, Cobalt trying to close in while Cotton trying to keep out of the rookidee's way, but ultimately the smaller bird was faster and managed to collide with the swablu, knocking it out of the sky. "Ah, no!" Madeline called out as she caught her pokemon in her arms before the bird could hit the ground. "That was a good try Cotton, now rest up." With that the trainer recalled her downed pokemon.

As she pulled out another pokeball, Madeline gave a pained smile. "Just my luck, my first battle and they're a toughie," she said as she tossed the ball in front of her. "You're up, Spike!" Out popped what looked like a large metal seed covered in green spikes. "Ferro!" the steel type shouted up at the bird pokemon flying around. "Take it out with metal claw!""Seed fer!" After a couple of short bounces the ferroseed hopped up with a spin to try and strike the rookidee with its sharp spikes. "Dodge!" Sable called out, motioning towards her opponent's pokemon. Cobalt, being a bird, was handily able to swoop out of the way of the oversized seed pokemon's attack. "Now follow up with another power trip!""Rooki rook!" the bird pokemon called out as he struck the ferroseed hard... Maybe a little too hard, as the steely barbs covering the pokemon dug into Cobalt's body at the same time. "Rook!" It sounded like the rookidee took some damage during the attack, but in the end it was the ferroseed that lost the skirmish.
{{OOC: Note, the added attack from the ferroseed is RP-only so that I don't feel like I'm picking too much on this random NPC XD}}
