Name of Child in Basket: Sarakyla Earthstrike

About Child: Sarakyla loves beautiful things. Most especially dancing and music. But though she tried to join her sisters in dancing, she wasn't able to keep up. Her heart would race and skip a few beats, leaving her panting and sick on the ground. As did any exertion. She moves with a delicate, slow grace, but can't join in the glorious dances. And her voice is breathy and quiet, lovely in a still and silent surrounding but not musician quality.
This left her struggling for a place in the flock. She wasn't strong enough to be a guard, huntress or even forager. She felt no calling of spirituality. And being around most foals just made her tired.
She spent a lot of time with the artisans, learning to make thing and enjoyed the creative outlet it offered. But it wasn't until she spent time with the gardeners that she found her calling.
Sarakyla loved the flowers, the quiet beauty and delicate fragrances. She worked some trying to create new tea blends that were as much about smell as taste before she found it was really the fragrance that most called to her. Some of her teas were truly undrinkable but smelled amazing and were sought after to brew at gatherings just for the scent.
So she started working on ways to make her fragrances more useful. She started creating perfumes and oils. And artfully worked pendants that could carry scent satchets.
Sarakyla still loves music and dancing, but she's content with what she has to offer, giving generously of her creations, happy to create something beautiful to share with the flock or for trade.
Plots:
Heart and Soul. The day Sarakyla accepts her body can't take her where her heart and soul want to go is a difficult one. But she isn't alone.
Sisters! Sarakyla loves her sisters, but not being able to join them in dance has always left her feeling a little hollow. It doesn't matter, she's there for them, helping make sets or watching practice and giving encouragement, she'll help however she can.
The Language of Flowers. Sarakyla has been looking for a place to belong, when she's introduced to the gardens and the beauty and wonder of growing stunning flowers. At first she's overwhelmed by it all, but after finding a cool place to rest, she closes her eyes and the wonder really beings. The scents fill the emptiness she hadn't quite known was there.
Got the Scent Now. She was never going to be traditional, but Sarakyla found her way to belong and contribute. Her first tries are hit or miss, but soon she is on the right path, and sharing her skills with the flock.
Delicate Flower. Wandering farther than she had intended while looking for new flowers, Sarakyla meets someone not of the flock. She'd always been protected and the encounter alone has her heart racing. Will the stranger lend her a hand, abandon her in her need, or be a threat?
Any Additional Info: Sarakyla has arrhythmia and a weak heart, she's fine as long as she stays calm and doesn't exert herself. She enjoys the friendship of the more gentle members of the flock and those with a creative passion, both female and male, though she has a harder time connecting with those who are more naturally fighters. She has never really wondered what life outside the flock was like, having everything she needs and loves here.

Why do you want to Join the Flock?: I love to role play but I have a difficult time reaching out to people to start something. I've watched the Flock, loving how detailed and intricate it is and how much story has come from these characters and wanted to be a part of that. I think this would be a great way to connect into the flock in a way that I can be a part of the story without feeling awkward asking for rp. I am very particular about contests like this and don't enter unless I feel I have a strong concept that can speak and breath as well as work with the family and connections that are already established. I feel like Sarakyla could make a fun flock character and connect with many different individuals within the flock. But more than anything I want to be a part of the community you all have built. Thank you very much for the opportunity.

About Child: (Nalita is a made up name)
Nalita loves to dance and sing and is quite good at it but her passion lies with making things. Crafting beautiful things to share with others is her way of expressing herself outside of singing. She enjoys making colorful blankets, jewelry and charms the most. But she does her best to make everything worthy of being praised and adored. She will put all her energy and resources into making the best custom-made pieces possible.
Nail doesn’t take completely after either of her parents but does have a high level of self-admiration or pride in everything she creates, achieves and performs. She possesses great intelligence that provides her with quick insight that helps her solve complex problems along with the ability to create harmonies and songs just by listening to sounds and identifying notes / patterns.
Plots:
-You can't please everyone : Even though she does her best in making products / items that she is proud of to sell, she will come to realize that not she can't please everyone with things she creates. I can easily see a pregnant mare coming for a blanket and after seeing how colorful they are, she will tell Nali that she wants soft colors instead of vibrant ones. This will lead to her going on a quest of sort to learn how to make softer colored blankets.
- Challenge set - I'd like to see her be challenged with her intelligence; problem solving / musicality.
-Confidence check- Not sure what would take place but I'd like for her to have her confidence tested and possibly even shaken up a bit. This will open her up to expanding her personality and learn to not be so confident.
Any Additional Info: I'm not great with coming up with plots, they sort of present themselves to me through various rps and ideas. I did my best here with what I'd possibly bring about to change her personality a bit and make her not so 'perfect.' I also will rp her to be able to get more of an idea on her personality.

Why do you want to Join the Flock?: I love the idea behind it, the colors and I feel as though it is a good rp opportunity for me. Just reading all about it makes me want to come up with rps concerning the flock. I've had a little interest in the flock before but its certainly a stronger interest now. I'd love to be a part of something this large and well thought out. I really feel as thought it will be a lot of fun to be a part of the flock.

-The meaning of Ashanti is Undefeated, Divine and Peace. Ashanti were African warriors who were one of the last to fall to European invasion in western Africa.

About Child:
It seemed like only moments after she took her first steps that she started dancing. As a young foal her hooves seldom stay still, but often the move to their own unique dance pattern. As a young foal she will be a hyper bundle of energy that has a hard time focusing on any task, but dancing which channels all of her energy. She is her happiest when she is dancing with her sister Sanaa, while her sister Lyana sings.
Like her mother, Ashanti is part of the performing guild as a dancer. She likes to try to recreate ancient dances especially looking through old books about harpy dances and interviewing harpy elders. Often time she will document the old dance steps, so the herd does not forget their traditional dances. (If she gets the feather tail, she will use her tail to write like an ink brush. If she doesn't then, she will gather feathers from any feathered male she helps capture.
Ashanti is really fascinated with any information she can about the Flocks past. She often reads any historical scrolls that she can come across. When she learns new interesting old stories she will often pass that information to Lyana for her to use in the performance guild. Ashanti also gathers and brings home any historical item, no matter if the item is considered junk to all the other herd members. This is something that can irritate her nest mates.
She has a set of bells that she straps to her legs while she dances. She likes hearing the sound of the bells every time she puts her hooves on the ground.Ashanti is extremely prideful about her dancing. By nature she is not an aggressive mannered mare, but if Sanaa or her dancing ability is made fun of by a soq of a similar age she can be very cruel in her revenge.
Ashanti likes to hum to help her keep count of beats of music and she will often randomly hum throughout the day. While she can hum quite nicely her singing voice is a bit scratchy sounding and Ashanti feels self-conscious about her voice which often causes her singing to go off tune. However, she is able to mimic realistic bird cry's to a frightening degree, and she often uses her mimicry to signal other females during a hunting party.
Ashanti is of the mind that preening should be left to the male gender. While she doesn't like to have a disheveled appearance, she is not one to spend hours grooming herself like her father is prone to doing. Ashanti is not overly vain about her appearance, but she does not like to have her mane or feathers look frumpy.
Plots:
'Don't mess with my sister'- a foal plot . Ashanti overhears another foal remark on Sanaa dance abilities. She loses and is ready to go on a rampage. However her sisters hold her back, and she decides that she will get revenge on the other foal in a non violet way. Ashanti is really protective of her two younger sisters and she knows how hard they all work at their craft.
We call it family, but all families are different: Ashanti learns that the friendship between her two parents is different then other families. She asks her mother questions why some foals from other families don't interact with their sire.
The Elder: Ashanti on her quest for knowledge encounters an elderly mare who in her younger days had been a part of performance guild. Instead of being exasperated by youngsters questions. The mare becomes amused, and the two of them start an unlikely friendship.The mare becomes her mentor.
Precious or Junk: Ashanti has collected one to many 'historical items' or junk as everyone else refers to them. Enough is enough her nest-mates call her out and give her an ultimatum either she stops her hoarder tendencies or she has to move out of the cave.
The stranger: Ashanti is going to meet a non harpy mare on the borderline of the harpy territory. Instead of chancing off the mare she is going to be intrigued by the others knowledge. For a bit she is going to imagine life outside harpy territory, but acknowledges that while the outside world seems fascinating it can't pull at her heart more then her sisters both blood and herd and her dancing.
Impress me: Ashanti does not have the kind heart here mother has towards males. It's not that she doesn't like them, but it's more like she hardly spares them a glance. However when the time comes that she wants offspring she will be looking for one trait- dancing. She fully expects to encounter some birds of paradise courting .
Any Additional Info: It's best to think of her as a bird. She is very similar to a bird; she has a fascination with collecting(both information and objects) , she is attracted to pretty feathers, imitates bird's songs, and loves to puff up her chest and dance.
She is always going to stay in the flock. Her sisters and dancing is where all here energy goes. Hunting for males doesn't interest her much, but she likes to collect unusual objects and is a hoarder of trophies. She will participate in the hunt for trophies and if the male has feathers she will take one of the feathers especially if the feather is bright colored. Ashanti holds great deal of respect towards Vanya and views the older mare as her ideal Harpy female. She admires Vanya's, tenacity and hard working nature.

Why do you want to Join the Flock?: I became interested in the harpies during the WoW event. Their society is really fascinating and unique. I do not know of another herd on the soq lands that has a similar hierarchy. The harpies culture is very complex and they have a big interesting back story. I have an AA in History and Anthropology, and their unique social system is something I could really sink my teeth into ^_^

It's been a long two weeks of typing and hand wringing and making sacrifices to the elder gods in the hopes of assuring your victory. And at long last the time has finally arrived! Your all powerful judges have read the entries and boy howdy did we pick a good winner! I've been winding up my arm all day and I'm ready to do some good, old-fashioned basket chucking! So without further ado, you can't all be winners but this lucky person sure did hit the jackpot!

About Child:
Iridea is a troublesome child- she's hardheaded, stubborn, and her heart is dead set on a job she's simply not particularly suited for. Raised as any foal on stories of adventure, wit and grandeur. She grew with a rather large head and only one goal in mind- and there lies her failings. She's simply not equipped to be a strong warrior- she lacks the strength needed for such a task, though she has the willpower and headstrong attitude, had she been born in a more capable body.
For most of her young life, she will struggle with this- elegant and sturdy though she may be, and clever may be her mind, she holds little regard for anything not a physical task- her goal is not to become an artisan, a nanny or forager nor any duty that would confine her to the safer areas of the herd. No, she desires the life of a guard, putting herself nobly between the dangerous, turbulent outside world and her homeland, keeping stallions and little ones alike safe, with little interest in any lesser job/
... Unfortunately, it will never be- Iridea is not cut out for the job. She can't keep up with the stronger fillies, no matter how hard she tries, and it causes a great rift in her sense of self confidence and self worth. It isn't until, by chance, she befriends one of the Sacred Mothers. Slowly and surely, Irie begins to find her own path- not following the hoofprints of any guard, but eased down the road to becoming a sacred sister by the mare she befriended, and she will grow out of the stubborn frustrations of her youth. As she finds her place in the Flock, Irie will never really lose her stubborn streak, but will grow into a caring, tender-hearted mare, even if she tends to lean too hard on the habit of 'tough love' and less on the ideal of empathy.
She will have good relationships with her father and mother both. She admires her mother for her grace and stability- the need and importance of protecting and caring for your family that Risuleri instills in her daughter is Iridea's original motivation for becoming a guard, though that goal ultimately fails. Though she loves and admires her mother to pieces, Irie's childhood fear will be disappointing Risuleri and not living up to her expectations, even if they are silly, imagined expectations. Your mother is a performer, not a guard, honey, it's fine. Her bond with Kalyana will be much more casual, though she recognizes and of course cares for her father, it is more of a friendship than a true parental bond, though she learns a special love of dance and pride in her appearance from her time with her father, and I imagine the pair have a healthy relationship, bonding over the(In Irie's mind, silly and a decent time-wasting) pursuit of beauty.
Plots:
(To be fair I'm still new to gaia and not used to pre-making plots so bear with me, please! I don't wanna include too much since I'm usually influenced by what happens in RP and I... Don't wanna plot too much in case I don't get her. Don't wanna get attached until after I'm picked, if I am so lucky!)
Matron Mother - While she's still growing into her own, Irie incidently makes friends with a Sacred Mother who, ultimately, sets her on the path of her life-long career of learning as a Sacred Sister and, possibly one day, become a Sacred Mother herself.
Sibling Rivalry - Iridea is not as musically inclined as her sisters, but genetics are genetics- though her heart was never into performance, Irie was always a fair dancer and singer, though she does not practice the talents outside of simple hobbies, putting her forever behind her sisters in skill... Though that doesn't stop a naturally stubborn, aggressive filly from sparking some friendly competition, anyway! Whether it continues into adulthood, sputters out as the girls grow, or causes rifts between the girls as they grow is entirely up to RP.
Any Additional Info:
She'll have a love for music and beauty, but due to the fact she latches onto adventure from a young age, dance, music, vanity.... They're all just hobbies to her, and anyone who puts too much stock into them... Well, yes, they're fun, but you need a REAL job too, you know! We can't all be so lucky as to waste our time all day...
She might grow to be a little jealous of her sisters, growing into great artisans... Due to the fact that she views artistic pursuits as frivolous. Perhaps one day, after she grows up into a position of Sacred Sister, she might regret not opening her mind to alternative pursuits when she was younger... Though it will never develop into anything more than a 'what if' to dwell on when she's bored or lonely, and she will be happy and content with where her life has taken her.
I'm hesitant to put out too many plots out because I just know I'll get attached to the idea- but the idea of her growing up and becoming either mother or mentor figure to another plucky, hard-headed young thing is both tempting and provides a lot of opportunity for some heartwarming stories.

We liked so many of the entries, that we couldn't just leave it at that.
Firstly, as many of you know, I own a LOT of soquili. A LOT. Because of this, I have to be picky about what breedings to do.. And thus genetics get tucked away unusued for years while I focus on projects.
So, for AislingJuno, I'd Like to offer a TEMPORARY CO-OWNERSHIP of Lyana Earthstrike, my basket from this breeding, that would let you get her first breeding and get you a member of the flock!
AislingJuno COME ON DOWN! (and tell me if you accept, otherwise you get the same prize as the next three)
In addition, Nyoko and I would like to offer Stormflower, medigel, and Lydalynn the option to either get a Mockbreeding of Risuleri Earthstrike and Kalyana to act as future breedings between them, OR they could pair up any of the following ponies to create a flock breeding, either together when plausible or with a rogue pairing.

Gersemi: A physical therapist for the flock, Gersemi is a skilled masseuse and healer. She's a single lesbian who usually prefers to visit Sacred mothers to help her with the whistler stallions or other options they may have.
Cerynitus: A Whistler stallion who takes his job seriously and is about to become a Sacred Sire. Twins with Peryton
Peryton: A Whistler stallion who's in it for the fun of it. Twin brother of Cerynitis
Sha'tar Kurenai: An adventuring talbuk Mare who enjoys immersing herself into various herds to live their culture and learn their ways. While she's not officially a member of the flock, after her boys with Halaa are grown and on their own, she'll join the flock and follow their ways. Which means if she gets pregnant, she'll remain long enough for her foals to grow into adults and choose whether to leave with her if they are mares.. Or leave them behind and promise to return again once her ban is lifted if they are sons.
Yilmaz Duman: This Sumi-e touched Smokey hand-winged lapsang ventured into the Flock to advertise the location of the Lapsang war's permanent setting and try to find hosts for the traveling part of the faire and got captured. After realizing they couldn't really trim his wing feathers, he got called a spirit and pretty much could fly away at any time. He won't be here for long, and will eventually get chased away since he won't stop talking about the faire and how they should come, but he gets around and is VERY popular.
Quest mares: I have SEVERAL quest mares I can show you the concepts of.
Rogue?: YES you two can just put some likes and dislikes and fling one of them out for something to make a new pony!
As for all other entries, With some tweaks, your submissions are definitely plausible (or may even be good as is, just not with this pairing)! I could allow some mockbreedings of my own ponies in exchange for a review of your entry and what could be fixed to make it work as a Flock mare.

Thank you so very much for the opportunity! It took a lot of time thinking about it to decide what I wanted to do. I feel the character I wrote for the contest works best when part of a multi-basket childhood. But she could be altered to work for a mock breeding where she was the only 'child' with either adult siblings or no siblings. Which means she could work for another pairing. Gersemi caught my eye for her with all those lovely flowers. And once I decided on her for the mother, I couldn't resist Cerynitis as the father. Other than the lovely purples drawing me, I think Cerynitis as a sacred father and a healer mother make a great foundation for my fragile perfumes girl. Though I'll add essential oils to her crafting for aid in healing and more reverence for the spiritual aspects of the flock. I very much appreciate the offer and would love to start perusing a mock breeding between Gersemi and Cerynitis. Thank you.

I have been thinking on this long and hard and I LOVE Gersemi so much but with the character i developed for the contest I feel like she would better suit to stay being a child between Risuleri and Kalyana. So I would love to work on a custom form to get a mock Earthstrike child between them to add to their colorful family though I would also be trying in wishing stars and leave things up to colorists fully too if that's ok <3 Thanks so much for the opportunity!
