Glyssa swam though the ocean looking closely at the ocean floor. She had lost one of her prized earrings. Losing such a pretty earring would be a shame but her heart would cry out at the loss of such pretty swag. Glyssa loved shinny objects especially jewelry almost as much as she liked collecting knowledge. Glyssa loved learning new ideas and was in a constant search for new information. She would seek out mers and seathi's from all over the ocean to converse with. Glyssa had even conversed with several land based soq who seemed amused and entertained that she was so interested in them . They would tell her about all the unusual land beings. One of them even told of of creatures that stood on two legs. She didn't quite believe them. Why could a creature only want two legs when they could move around much faster with four. She was puzzled and if creatures with two legs existed she wanted to observe them. Glyssa rather believed the soq that told her of the two legged beast were pulling her fins but their was a possibility that they really existed. She had also heard that some land soq were evil like purewalkers and kalonas . They had sounded scary and she was glad they did not reside in the ocean. Not that the ocean wasn't a dangerous place it was in it's own way. Many dangerous fish and sharks lived in the ocean and not all aquatic soq were friendly . Some were deadly and insane it's just that she understood sea creatures more so she had less fear of them. It was the unknown that scared her because she didn't understand it and could not prepare for it. Glyssa was pondering on the question that filled her head when she realized she was not paying attention to finding her lost earring. She was also not paying attention to the time of day or the change in tide. Feeling the currants change Glyssa knew she was in trouble. She should have paid more attention last night to the moon. If she had gone up and looked at the night sky she would have realized that it was the time for Spring Tide. Neap tide was the highest highs and lowest lows of the oceans current. A seathi had to be especially carefully not to be dragged out by the current during a Neap tide. Glyssa felt panicked as she felt the tides push her body up suddenly towards the shore. The water pulled and pushed her body and left her feeling dizzy. She tried to grab anything she could reach with her tail. After blindly trying to grab some support she finally became lucky as her tail was able to connect with some drifting seaweed.

Marrow was swimming bye when he heard a small voice shouting in the distance. Curious he swim towards the direction of the voice hoping he would find the source of the shouting. The ocean was currently experiencing a neap tide which could be dangerous for some aquatic soq. Marrow was a rather big male Mer but even he could be bothered by the pull and tug of a spring tide. His big body mass did help him feel less of the effects of the tide then some of the smaller aquatic soq. Still he tried to pay attention to the phases of the moon. Spring Tides occurred twice each lunar month so if one looked at the moon it foretold the coming of both a Neap Tide and a Spring Tide. Spring tides would always occur during a full moon or during the new moon phase. He did not understand why the moon had any effect on the water but the moon did seem to effect the tides and during a new or full moon the ocean had it's highest high tides and lowest low tides . By looking at the moon you could also figure out when the ocean was going to have Neap Tides. Neap tides were when the ocean had it's lowest low tides and highest low tides. They always seemed to occur seven days over a Spring Tide and occurred when the moon was in it's first and third quarter phase.

While Marrow looked dangerous and impulsive he was actually quite a solid fellow. He liked being prepared for most problems and he did not fling himself into dangerous situations unprepared. Why take an extra risk when one could be prepared to avoid the dangerous situation all together. Still that didn't mean he avoided adventure, he often traveled around the ocean to relieve his boredom. It was rather tedious to always stay in the same spot and he did not have any family ties to hold him to one territory. At times he felt lonely but never for long after all not every aquatic soq could have the same adventures he had. Most aquatic soq did not venture far from their birth place as they got locked in a cycle of repetition.

Moving his ears from side to side he tried to make out the direction the sound was coming from. Closing his eyes he tried to focus on the vibrations he was feeling in his webbing. Finally he pinpointed the direction the sound was coming from and swam for it. It seemed to be coming from nearby but he could not spot another mer nearby. This patch of ocean seemed bare of most life all accept for a patch of seaweed.

Glyssa wiggled from side to side. Finally the tide was returning back to normal but she was now in another predicament . This was clearly not her day, everything was just going wrong and she was starting to feel depressed. Feeling depressed was not a normal feeling for Glyssa. Glyssa in general was upbeat some wold say perky and a few might think her energy was annoying. However Glyssa rarely let things bother her, you could say she let negative thoughts wash off her scales like water. Since she was in ocean surrounded by water what could bother her? She had gotten herself in a few dangerous situations before but she somehow always got out of such scrapes.
Luck was a kind friend to Glyssa and she was thankful that luck had treated her so nicely. However today her friend luck had clearly abandoned her, since nothing was going her way. Glyssa wiggled from side to side but she couldn't free her tail from the sticky seaweed. She had never before encountred sticky seaweed and had not know to be weary of unusual seaweed. Who knew something she ate on a daily basis could be dangerous. Glyssa struggled to free herself but the more her coat touched the seaweed the more stuck to it she had become. She yelled out into the ocean to ease the frustration bubbling up inside her. Glyssa felt better after she shouted, she still felt anxious but she felt a little less panicked. Feeling panicked in the ocean was not wise, it led to stupid decisions. Making stupid decisions in a dangerous situation could lead to death. Glyssa focused on slowing down her heart rate. She imagined a calm restful feeling and the sensation of her heart gently slowing. She thought on the way oxygen was brought to her by the water and the feeling of her lungs expanding. Glyssa was starting to feel calm, which would allow her to think of a way to free herself rather then to act out in blind panic. As she was trying to formulate a plan, she started making out the shape of a black spot off into the distance. Whatever the black spot was, it was clearly something alive and it was starting to become bigger. She hoped it was a friendly fish that could help her and not something that thought something cute and pink would be tasty. As the black spot swam closer to her she could start to make out it's shape. The size and the fin style made it clear to her that the approaching shape was of a mer. "Hello," she cried out in what she hoped was a friendly manner. A male mer swam up to her, his face was both beautiful and terrifying.

As Marrow swam towards source of the vibrations he noticed the the sound was becoming louder though not much louder. Whatever creature had made the sound was not very big. Well if a fish or Seathi needed his help he would do his best to help them. The only place where the noise could be coming from was that patch of seaweed. He swam around to the other side of the seaweed and there stuck to the seaweed was a adorable cute purple and pink seathi. " Hello," she called out her voice a bit on the horse side. Marrow tried to make his face muscles relaxed and tried to emote a friendly aura. Marrow knew his coat marking could be intimidating. Soq with bone markings were usually observed with caution by other soq. Marrow didn't blame them after all bone markings usually reminded many soq of death. It was natural to fear death but just because Marrow had skeleton like markings didn't mean he was a harbor of death. He tried his best make other soq at ease when they first interacted with him. Marrow tried not to take it personal but the way other soqs treated him did hurt him on some level. He consciously understood their fear but he didn't like seeing fear in the eyes of soq when they looked at him. It hurt him and he felt like he had to always act in a bright manner so other soq would not fear him. He felt like he always had to hide behind a portrayed mask. He was so tired of always acting upbeat but he hated to see how others feared him

He regarded the small pink and purple seathi in front of him. She seemed to being looking at his face with some apprehension. "I'm not going to hurt you. I am slowly going to try to peal the seaweed off of you," He tried speaking slowly and softly. In a way he hoped was not frighting, he had a naturally deep voice but he tried to add some lightness to his tone.

The pink and purple seathi gazed at him her eyes wide as if trying to look deep into his purple colored eyes. However she remained silent probably because she was still in shock.

As his hooves first touched of the seaweed he knew immediately what had happened. The seaweed seemed to be secreting some kind of stick substance. Marrow bit his lip in thought. If he tried to pull the seaweed of the seathi he could seriously hurt her.

"I'll be right back," Marrow said as he swam off to find to find a few fish that could help. In almost no time he had collected several fish that seemed to be eager to help him with his plan.

Glyssa eyes widened her eyes in amazement as many small colorful yellow and blue striped fish surrounded her. Their small mouth rounded and opened as they regarded the seaweed that entangled her. Within a few moments, the fishes looked like they had made their decision, but the fishes swam side to side as if waiting for something or someone.
When Glyssa saw the fishes teeth she became rather alarmed. All the fishes in the school had jagged razor sharp white teeth. The skeletal mer swimming up to her side, relieved her a bit. Was this the help he had gone off to find? She was rather relived and thankful to see him once again. She originally thought his marking were a bit scary but beautiful but in the moment of seeing him again she was in awe of him. A small part of her had thought he might have abandoned her. After all she was in a perilous situation and she was a stranger to him. His actions in returning caused her heart to quicken and beat rapidly. At least she thought her heart was beating rapidly because of his actions, it also could be because the teeth on all those fish were incredibly long and sharp looking and she was a bit scared. However she wasn't a land chicken and she didn't want to admit that she was scared because of the fish so she would believe her ladylike heart was moved by the stallion's gentleman like behavior. Though her cheeks reddened when she thought off how her heart soared for a moment, when the stallion returned.

He stood back as the fish came close to her. Immediately the fish set of and started to chew on the kelp. Over time the kelp surrounding her started to decrease inch by inch. Her heart soared in delight as she came to the realization that those splendid fish with their scary teeth were actually saving her.Soon she would be free of the awful menacing sticky seaweed that had entrapped her so easily. It was frustrating to be helpless and to have to rely on others. Glyssa had the type of personality that she was uncomfortable to rely on others. She felt like she owed both the fish and Mers and honor bound debt. She didn't know how she would properly thank the fish or Mer stallion, but she knew that in the future she would try to return the favor to both the mer and fish. It had been quite the day, filled with both danger and excitement. She would never have expected seaweed to be her nemesis and for it to have ensnared her so speedily. Glyssa would never expected that a school or fish with sharp white teeth would actually be kind vegetarians. Nor would she have expected for her hear to beat so rapidly for Mer stallion.

Marrow plan was starting to work. That particular fish had regularly eaten that variety of seaweed before, but they were a migrating breed of fish. It was the little Seathi's and his good luck that a school of fish was traveling through the area at this time. The fish had razor like sharp teeth that could easily slice through the sticky seaweed. It seemed like the fish were one of the few ocean creatures that ate the seaweed to gain nutrients in the diet. Most small creatures in this part of the ocean avoided he sticky seaweed that trapped the unwary.
In no time the fishes experienced movements had decimated huge patches of the surrounding kelp field. Their swift nibbling soon set the little pink and purple seathi free. The little seathi seemed a bit dazed and confused when she was suddenly set free. Her eyes were very wide and Marrow was woried that she was experiencing physical shock from the experience. Marrow swam in a hovering motion with his eyes keenly watching her every movement. He was feeling worried about her and his protective nature was surfacing.
She suddenly blinked, and her fins fluttered from side to side. First she appeared to be closely looking at the fish. Her gaze seemed to be fixated on the fishes long white sharp teeth. Marrow had to admit that the fish looked rather prehistoric with their sharp teeth that appeared to be sharply jutting out of the fishes jaw. If he was not familiar with this breed of ocean fish, he would have first assumed them to be carnivorous creatures. Like many scary creatures, the fish were actually quite gentle and they were actually not carniverious at all, but were in fact misunderstood vegetarians. They didn't need to free the small seathi, but their kind actions had saved her.
Marrow looked at the seathi that was still looking intently at the yellow and blue fish stripped fish . " You don't need to worry that they are regarding you as their next meal. They are strict vegetarians, and are one of the few sea creatures that could have freed from the sticky sap seaweed," Marrow communicated in a light informative tone to the little seathi.
The small punk pink Seathi tilted her face towards Marrow in a questioning manner. She looked like she had plenty of questions to ask Marrow, but when her pink eyes met his purple one she suddenly froze. She ducked her head down, and it appeared that her body was quickly becoming flushed. Starting from her tail, and quickly spreading from her face. She suddenly turned her head and nodded to the yellow and blue stripped fish. "Thank you, If I can ever return the favor I will," She spoke in a tired, but sweet sounding voice. Then she turned her attention to Marrow and spoke in a nervous fashion,
"I want to.." Her face had become bright red and she could no longer speak fluently. She seemed panicked and she cast one quick look at Marrow face before she suddenly swam off. Marrow was quite confused by her actions.
He could easily swim to catch up with her, but her actions made in seem like she was scared of him. Marrow was used to other soq and sea creatures being afraid of him because of his unusual marking. It seemed like both him and the yellow and blue stripped fish were scary looking. However the the little pink seathi, he was probably much more scary looking then the fish.

Glyssa had no control of her fins, her body shot through the water at a dizzying pace. White noise had filled her mind during her escape and her body had just reacted with little thought. Glyssa was not sure what feeling she was experiencing, but she knew she was extremely embarrassed. Her thoughts finally started to return to a more normal pattern and her fins slowed down until she was just drifting in the water. If Glyssa had acted like her typical self she would have spoke to the Mer with brashness and a bit of swagger to her words. She would have thanked him with a twinkle in her eye and in style. The Stallion would have been touched by her sincerity and her boldness. In the a usual Glyssa like manner , she would have left in impression on the stallion with her charismatic personality. However Glyssa had acted out of character. She was sure she did leave in impression on the stallion, but not a favorable one. In her mind Glyssa recreated the scenario with the stallion, she was so embarrassed. Why did she have to panic and swim off like a fish with no sense. Glyssa breathed deeply and will water saturated wth oxygen fill her gills. She tried to call her raging heart and decide what her next move would be.

However stray thought kept bugging her. "If only I kept," she whispered to herself. She could not turn back the clock of time and while she visualized all the different scenarios of how she could have acted and what she could have said, it was to late to change the past.

" Stop why are you panicking and feeling sorry for yourself?" Glyssa reprimanded herself . "You had just spent part of the day in a perilous situation, you have an excuse for not being polite to the mer. At least you thanked the fish. They were the ones that ate that horrible seaweed that had entrapped you. Beside the Mer was a stranger and the ocean is so big, it's not like your ever going to encounter the stallion again. He was just a stranger who was in the right place at the right time. You would have also helped any seathi or mer that needed help. Ocean soq help each other, that is one of the tenets you were taught growing up. The Mer can just return to his home tonight feeling accomplished that he upheld his civic duty and that he is a hero. " Glyssa tried to reason her actions and tried to cheer herself up, but a part of her was still upset by this experience. Being in danger really made a girl reflect on her life. Institutionally Glyssa knew that this experience had changed her deeply.

It had been a long day and Glyssa just wanted to settle down in her part of the Coral Reef. She settled in the piece of Coral she called home and tried to rest her aching body. While her body might have been exhausted by days experience, she did not sleep easily. Glyssa was nagged by the thought that the day had been important milestone and she had lost a special opportunity at happiness.

As he watched the retreating figure of the seathi as she hurridly swamp away, Marrow could feel his lips turn in a frown. Was he really that scary looking? He couldn't do anything about his looks, but he hoped his actions in saving the little searthi had shown that just because he looked a bit scary didn't mean he was evil in nature. Marrow often tried to act in a gentlemen like fashion, but so often his deeds were misunderstood by others due to his frightful appearance. Marrow hoped the little seathi did not thing he was going to eat her. Marrow had heard some stories that some mers did in fact eat the meat of smaller ocean dwellers, but he did not know if the story was fact or fiction. Stories tended to get twisted the more they were retold. Could the female have heard the stories and thought that Marrow was one of the ocean's flesh eating Mers. Is the reason she hurriedly swam from him was because she was worried he would eat her. Marrow closed his eyes in thought and spoke to the yellow and blue fish that were still swimming by him. "I really hope she didn't think I was going to eat her." The fish blew bubbles at Marrow to comfort him. They did not speak their thoughts , but they shared his pain. After all due to their sharp teeth they were often misunderstood by others to be carnivores. Few knew they were just misunderstood friendly vegetarians and not fish bursting with killing intent.

Over the next few days ,Marrow thought of the little pink seathi and wondered what had happened to her. He hoped she had not been to weakened by her struggles against the seaweed. However after many days he thought of her less in less until she was a faded memory. He did not yet know that they would meet again and this time she would be the one helping him.

Glyssa was swimming around the ocean looking for entertainment. She was a bit of an adrenaline seeking soq and it had been many days since she had last found some excitement. Glyssa didn't like relaxing peaceful days, those days allowed stray thoughts to pop into her head. It had been several months since she had gotten stuck to the sticky seaweed. From time to time she still thought of the Mer Stallion and his memorable markings. She often thought she had handled the situation badly and she still thought of her embarrassing actions.

Now that she knew of the seaweed's existence she avoided that patch of the ocean and she often told friendly fish and soq of the terrible deadly seaweed. She also would sing praises to wondering fish and soq about the friendliness of yellow and blue fish who were her saviors.

As Glyssa swam looking for some excitement to clear her thoughts, she became startled when she recognized a distant figure up ahead. His markings were memorizing and memorable. She started to feel her face flush and her heart beat faster. Hurriedly she swam in his direction with a smile on her face. This time she wanted him to have a good impression of her .

Marrow was starting to feel alarmed. All morning he had been trying to reach a shell that had fallen through the space between to dark grey rocks. The shell was milky cream in color with a almost pearl like luminescence to it. The shell was one of the few prized possessions his mother had given him when he had left the family reef as an adult.
Marrow was feeling very bitter towards himself, and the stupidity of his actions. Usually the shell was tied to his neck by a string. He had noticed earlier this week that the string was starting to become frayed with age, but the string was also given to him by his mother and he had not had the heart to replace it. Marrow was really regretting his decision to keep the shell on the frayed chord. Earlier he had been swimming above the reef when he felt the chord snap. Alarmed he felt for the shell on his neck, but the shell had fallen to the reef floor. For several hours he diligently searched the ocean floor, until at last he eyes made out the distinct luster of the shell nestled
between the rocks in a place he was not able reach. Marrow had given up home that he would be able to reach the shell by himself. He had hoped he would be able to ask a small fish to help him, but so far every fish that swam by him avoided him like the plague

Suddenly a small pink streak shot towards him. "Can I help you?" Asked a small pink and purple seathi. She was somehow familiar to Marrow, but Marrow couldn't place where he had met her before. However the little Seathi had a flushed face and he could swear her eyes sparkled as she waited for his response. Marrow was feeling like this was the start of a surreal experience. This small seathi was not acting the way other soq typically acted when around Marrow. He was used to being feared, but this seathi reactions were the polar opposite. Marrow was unaccustomed to her reaction and he didn't know how to act, but he wouldn't lose this chance. If she was willing to help him he would take her up on her offer.

Glyssa carefully watched the Mer, as she waited for his response. He seemed a bit torn, and he did not immediately respond to her offer of help. The Male finally responded after a big pause, which seemed like quite a lot of time to Glyssa, but was only actually a few moments.

"I'd appreciate the help. A precious item fell into the space between those two rocks. The stallion answered her as he pointed his hooves toward two steel grey rocks.

Glyssa eyes followed the direction the stallion pointed to. She swam toward the rocks and looked carefully at the space between the two rocks. She could see that the space between the two rocks was quite narrow. Glyssa swam closer as she gauged her surrounding. When she approached the gap between the rocks , she stuck her head in the space. She could see the luminescence shell stuck in the gap between the rocks. It would be a tight fit, but she knew she would be able to retrieve the shell. Glyssa could understand why the stallion had been unable to reach his precious shell. For once she was happy, that her small stature allowed her to help return the favor she owed the male.

Marrow watched as the small seathi surveyed the space between the rocks. The little seathi frowned her forehead as she appeared to be thinking deeply. The seathi darted towards the rocks, and suddenly put her head in the gap. Her fins fluttered hurriedly through the water. Just when Marrow was starting to think that the seathi had gotten her head caught, she suddenly swung her head up from the gap.

In a hurried manner she swam back to his location
. "I'm sure I can do it!" She exclaimed in an excited fashion. "I saw the shell and I'm confident I can retrieve it.

Marrow did't know where the little seathi got her exuberance from. He was a bit worried that she was going to get stuck, but she would know better then him about what she could or could not do.

Glyssa made up her mind that she would not lose face in front of the stallion. She could just envision herself stuck between the rocks with her head in the crevice of the rocks and her bottom end floating in open ocean. It would be humiliating and she didn't want the stallion to help save her when she still hadn't returned the favor from the last time she had gotten herself into a predicament. She had gauged the rocks and believed she could successfully retrieve the shell. She took a long breath and allowed the water to flow over her gills. While she was not entirely sure about the gap between the rocks, she endeavored to rush forward towards the gap. It was not in her style to let her fears control her actions.

Marrow could feel his heart leap into his throat, when he watched the seathi dart into the crevice. He was worried, she was so little, and she was doing him a favor. If anything happened to her, the responsibility would rest on his shoulders. He debated calling her back, but she had already entered the rocky crevice. Marrow swam next to the rocks and narrowed his eyes as he waited for the seathi to reappear. Every second she was down there was pure agony for him as his mind flashed scenarios where she was trapped between the rocks or he had delivered her into the resting place of a creature that had made her it's meal. Marrow negative thoughts easily entrapped him, and he was completely shocked as his eyes made out the shape of his shell that was now laying on the edge of the rocks. The pink seathi was swimming beside him, while she looked at his face that was now filled with puzzlement. With his thoughts filled with nightmarish scenarios he had been unaware that the trip to collect the shell had only taken her a few minutes.
