She had started gritting her teeth again, and had brought some gum earlier that day…which was the start of the whole thing. In her hand was a flyer which could either solve her problem or cause a bigger one, one that could take a much longer time to explain to her dad. The man had been subtly hinting at hoping she would settle down or at least adopt for some time now, but she had been having no luck.
Well…
No luck since she had yet to really think about settling down. She does like children, there’s a reason she’s teaching music to children. However, to look after a child of her own…
Was she ready?
The loud sound of a heavy sigh escaped her as she hunched over to read over the flyer once more. As she read over the paper, she slowly straightened her back as she got more and more careful with what she was reading. By the time she had read the flyer once, she was sitting back and thinking over the offer. A second read to double check her reading, and a third to make sure this was what she wanted.
Was she really going to apply for this instead of an adoption center?
Raz flopped back onto her couch and closed her eyes. Her fingers tapped a random beat as she thought about the possibilities some more before picking herself up from her couch. The pink haired woman hurried towards her closet, picked out a jacket, and went out the door with the flyer in hand.

“Hey dad.” Raz felt herself smiling subconsciously as the voice of her father greeted her. It had been a while since she last called, but there were reasons for that. She could hear rustling on the other end, and could only assume her dad was fixing his posture upon hearing her voice.
“Hey there Pinky Berry, how’re you doing? How’s work? Is everything okay over there? Do you need me over fo--”
“I’m doing fine, dad. Nothing’s broken so don’t worry, and work has been swell. Met some interesting people over the past week, but it had been swell.” Raz felt herself chuckle at her father’s concern, but felt herself trail off slightly to take in a deep breathe. She was going to tell him of her choice today. She said she will, and she was going to. Though it seems her father picked up on the breathing and immediately addressed it, “Honey?”
“I went and signed up for an…thing.”
“A thing?”
“Yes…A new family member thing.” She could hear her father go deadly silent. Perhaps the man was dumb folded, or perhaps he was just stunned she was finally doing this. Either way, it takes him a good minute to recollect himself and start sprouting questions. “…I’M GOING TO BE A GRANDDAD?”
She laughed, “Yeah. Though, um...”
“I’M GOING TO BE A GRANDDAD!”
“Yes you are, dad.”
“A GRANDDAD, HUN! A GRANDDAD!”
“Dad, calm down. I don’t know if they’re going t--“
“YOU HAVE JUST MADE ME SO HAPPY, RAZ! SO HAPPY! A GRANDDAD!”
Oh lord, she could hear him sniffling…he’s crying. Raz knew the man had wanted her to have a child for years, but this was going a little overboard. Nervous laughter escaped Raz as she pondered on how she was going to tell him the child wasn’t a human child. She had wanted to inform him of this, but it seems the man had already had enough information for one day. At this rate, Raz could barely make out his words because of how quickly he was speaking and of the snot that was affecting his speech. Currently, all she felt she could do were to make sounds of acknowledgement. She was glad he was happy for her, and she was glad he approved of her choice.
However, with the situation as it was on the phone…what’s going to happen when she finally gets the call and takes the kid over to meet him?
…
Perhaps she should wear a raincoat for that.

The day had been a little busier than usual, but she was not prepared to hear yelling coming from the counter to the soundproof music rooms. That was quickly dealt with when every single instructor providing lessons stuck their heads out of the room to glare at the culprit. Raz would be lying if she said she was anything but annoyed, but at least they didn’t start swearing. The little angel in the lecture had been such a good girl and so earnest in her learning…
“Ahhhhh, finally home to take a breather.” She commented to the empty complex with a small stretch, “Should probably do the usual routine before making dinner.”
Raz hung her jacket and took off her boots before briskly walking into her dining room to check on the mail. She had a feeling it was nothing more than the usual bills and advertisements, but couldn’t hurt to hope something interesting was there! Well, there was nothing…but there was something interesting in her voice mail.
A series of quiet, sounds of acknowledgements were made as she went through her mail. However, she suddenly paused as the contents of the voice mail finally processed in her brain. Eyes widen subconsciously as her head slowly moved to stare at the cell phone on the table.
Oh…
!!!
The door slammed shut with a hurried thud.
