Who: Yves, Raz
Where: A music store in Barton Town
When: Noon
Weather: Windy! Terribly windy, and the leaves are beginning to change.

Yves felt as if he hadn't tended to his hobbies in a million years.

Well, perhaps that was an exaggeration. It was more like a hundred years. Violin case clutched protectively to his side, Yves pushed his way through the door of the music shop, his burgundy coat flapping haphazardly in the wind.

Autumn was fast on his heels, and he loved it. The leaves were changing, the temperature was dropping - even though it was still August, the winds had picked up considerably and were drawing dark, heavy rain clouds toward Barton Town. Yves stopped to look back outside, a smile forming. Soon, hot chocolate and pumpkin everything and Halloween, and...

He paused in his thoughts. Halloween. It had been in October when he had acquired his fel essence and soul bottle, when he had officially become a member of the Lab 305 family. He liked to think of it as a family, anyway. After all, wasn't he going to become a parent, soon?

Well, he had shipped off the soul of George - how had he never noticed he was a wolf? - and the Living Bone fel essence a while ago, so it was only a matter of waiting. He could be patient. He would be nervous and stress himself out the entire time, but he could be patient.

Finally turning once more to face the inside of the store, Yves peered around. He had never been in this particular music store before, but because his entire family had made it a priority to play at least one instrument apiece, he had brought his own violin in to get some new strings. He could have left it at home, but he liked to cart it around with him whenever he was doing something that concerned the instrument. Aside from new strings, it likely needed a tune up, and it just never hurt to have it looked at by a professional. It was an antique, after all, and he had to make sure everything fit just right.

Clearing his throat, Yves approached the counter and looked around. "Hello?" he called, politely. He leaned a hip against the counter, violin case in both arms, and waited with a smile.

Raz covered up her yawn with her hand as she watched the wind torment the world. On days like these, it’s rare to see costumers aside from the few students who have lessons that day. Her co-workers and her were both bored out of their minds, but that’s probably why they had decided to disappear off to get them both some coffee. It was probably going to be a long day…

A wince escaped her lips as she heard the harsh rustling of the leaves outside. With how things are going, her concerns at the moment revolve around a few things: Her dad (hopefully he’s not going out today), her co-worker who went a block down to get them coffee, those on the street, and well…the last one actually doesn’t revolve around this ridiculous windy weather. Raz would be lying if she said she wasn’t worried about her application to the LAB 305 place. It’s natural to be worried when you first hand in something that needs approving, right? The anxiety of waiting had already attacked her gum supply, she’s already burnt through twice the amount she normally would.

Straightening her back, she brushed her concerns away for the moment. She’s at work right now, she can moan and groan about it when she’s home. Raz smiled as she faced the door of the music store once more but it disappeared again when she remembered the attack of nature outside.

Hopefully the wind wouldn’t knock over any power lines this time around. The woman decided to leave the counter for a moment to pick up a handful of scores from the back. Little did she know, someone decided to brave the weather to get to the music store today.

Hearing the faint sound of hello, Raz dropped her initial course of action and speed walked back to the counter. The pink haired woman was smiling as she greeted the man, “Hello. How may I help you today?

There was a short pause before her eyes caught sight of the violin case, and she snapped her fingers in acknowledgement. “Let me guess….Tune up appointment or booking? I doubt anyone would brave this weather just to get some scores.” there was a good natured grin on her face by the end. And without a doubt, Raz might have made a mental note about how cute this guy was. Small, blonde, and with a violin.

His smile faltered just a bit as the woman had hurried back to the counter; not because he was unhappy to see her, but because he suddenly felt bad for drawing her away from whatever it was she had been doing. He scratched his head, slightly embarrassed, and his smile broadened again, although it was a little strained. His cheeks were flushed pink from the cold, and he drew his scarf toward his chin, relieved to no longer have the thing strangling him in the wind outside.

"Hello, mademoiselle," he began, dipping his head in greeting. "My name is Yves, and you are partly correct -- I am here for a tune up, but I would also like some new strings for this old girl." He gently slapped a palm to the violin case, looking down at it fondly. He didn't normally like to hand over his beloved instrument to just anybody, but he had been so rattled and worried the past few months that he had neglected her and, despite his wishes, it was best to let a professional handle her this time. Just in case he remembered his past ordeal with capturing souls and cars and wolves being hit and dropped it or something.

His dark eyebrows drew down into a frown as he began to think, and he had to snap himself out of it. Don't think. Not of that. This was for fun.

He felt that, maybe, he hadn't really addressed what he had done just yet. Would it always be this hard? Would he always look at his future raevan and remember the hard times?

"Um," he cleared his throat. "Sorry. I... have had a long few weeks. I hope you can help me out, mademoiselle."

He’s adorable. That’s the thought in her head as the man greeted her. It’s not every day you see someone attractive, well-mannered and calling you mademoiselle. It’s hard not being at least a little smitten by just the behaviour alone.

Name’s Raz, a pleasure to meet you Yves. And don’t worry about it, help is what I’m here for! No need to be anxious or worried.” Raz chimed before pulling a clipboard from under the counter, and slipped it towards Yves. On the clipboard were a list of names and times opened for violin tune ups. “Feel free to pick a time, and you’ll be done with getting an appointment for the violin tune up. Though violin strings…

The woman hummed out the last bit of the sentence thoughtfully, trying to remember if they have any strings out in the front. Where did they put the box…Oh right. “Excuse me for a moment.” The only warning she offered before darting off towards a section for a moment before walking back. She held a large box in her arms, and when she placed it on the counter the contents of the box were revealed to all be strings. Violin strings all neatly stacked together in order.

While she might have a triumphant grin on her face, it faltered slightly when she saw the look on Yves’ face. Was he alright? You alright there, sweetheart?” she paused for a moment while pulling out the packs of strings Yves would need for his violin, “Want to talk about it? Not trying to pry but you look like you have a lot running through your mind, and could use an ear. Not to mention it’s just the two of us here.

Raz had to stop herself from taping her fingers on the table. No, she shouldn't do that. The Cinnamon roll had only just met her, so forcing him to spill would be a horrible idea. Trying to be professional here.

His face flushed with a sigh of relief. Sometimes it was difficult to put on a polite or confident face for a stranger, but he had to do it every day at the grooming salon he owned. Yves did enjoy company, but he knew that he wasn't necessarily as polite as he presented himself to others; a bit of social anxiety, mixed with the fear of being too blunt and coming across as rude, made him watch after himself with caution.

Not that it was that hard to be nice. He was just nice by nature, but... sometimes his personality could be off-putting, and he knew that. He had been called pushy, rude, emotional - all very human things, and he never understood why people seemed so surprised when his friendship came with the burden of his other traits. The many months spent terrorizing his most recent friend, Hector, came to mind, and Yves stifled a small laugh. God, he could be annoying sometimes, couldn't he? So helpful! I'm helpful! Notice me!

She was darting around and Yves smiled at her energy. He had felt so drained since he had gained his fel essence -- he blinked. Could the fel essence have been sapping his energy the entire time he kept it around? After all, it was Living Bone, which seemed to heal itself by sapping the life of that around it whenever injured. But he hadn't done anything to hurt it, had he? He massaged his temple and tried to remember, but he felt a headache coming on so he stopped.

When she returned he raised his eyebrows at the clipboard, scanning over it for a suitable time. He was an early bird, so he picked the earliest time he could for his next day off. He suddenly felt silly for assuming they would have an opening available right at that moment, but he still was glad he brought his instrument with him, because he couldn't remember what kind of strings she needed. Setting his violin case atop the counter, Yves glanced up at her question.

"Ah... you're very forward," he said, chuckling. Although he knew nothing about this woman, he felt that they could have some great conversations together, no beating around the bush. "To be honest, I am not sure how well I can talk about it with a stranger, but... well, I suppose we aren't strangers, since we know each other's names."

It couldn't hurt to tell, could it? He had divulged in his sister, his friend Hector, and those associated with the Lab already, but that was it. But the Lab wasn't doing anything illegal, and the application had been very public, so what reason did he have to hold it in? And he couldn't deny that he was excited, now that the worst part was over. A raevan! A child! His own child! He hadn't really ever thought about starting a family the conventional way; pets were his fur babies, after all, and settling down wasn't something he ever planned to rush into. But the fact that he had another family member on the way was beginning to become too much to keep to himself.

He loosened his scarf, suddenly feeling a bit stuffy, and leaned his side against the counter, hand poised comfortably on top of his violin case. This woman was warm, and seemed kind. And he was begging to talk to someone about what had happened. Finally, he gave in and gestured aimlessly in the air with his free hand.

"I... Well, if you really want to know, I have begun the long process of adoption," he began, trying to find his words carefully. He couldn't simply come out with well, I killed a dog, well, no, it was a wolf, but I didn't kill kill him, he was hit by a car, I just sucked his soul into a bottle, but it's okay because he's going to be reborn as a raevan and...

He drew in a breath and leaned in, eyes dancing with hints of excitement. "It's a long story. Have you ever heard of.... Lab 305?"

Raz let out a small chuckle in return at Yves pointing out her bluntness. Ah yes, the thing most people points out if they were brave enough to. She had never been one to beat around the bush, and never will. Most situations require this trait, and she’s rather fond of it. If others didn’t like it, well…They didn’t like it, and she’ll just become friends with people who like her bluntness.

Though she had to admit she was glad she got Yves talking. It’s not good to hold things in, and if you want to talk – talk! With how Yves was carrying on with the conversation, sounds like something personal or family related. However, the fact he was willing to talk to her seems to show he trusts her at least somewhat. Good thing though since this means they can become friends if they tried. Trust is an important thing, and they’ve already taken that first step.

Upon hearing the word adoption, Raz made a sound of acknowledgement of what was going on. She had just signed up for Lab 305 and…

There was a sharp halt in her actions.

Did Yves just…

Lab 305? You’re an applicant at Lab 305?” she questioned without even the slightest thought of filtering her words, “I just signed up for it a few days ago! Floating torso children right? Still need to figure out a way to explain to my dad that he’s getting a special snowflake of a grandchild. But yes, did something happened?

"Whoa!" Yves couldn't help but let a startled noise escape, his eyes growing wide. "You, too?! I mean... you also got a... a raevan?"

His heart was suddenly thumping in his chest, and Yves had to lean back and make sure he wasn't going to have some kind of attack. It wasn't so strange to hear that she knew of Lab 305, but to stand right there and listen to her say she had signed up? And from the sounds of it, she seemed to have been accepted already! He blinked once, twice, and shook his head.

"M-me too!" He held a hand, open-palmed, to his own chest. "So you were accepted as well? What is your fel essence? What soul did you decide on? Oh mon Dieu, capturing a soul was probably the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. That poor do -- wolf, that poor wolf." Finally he settled, taking a moment to unravel his scarf. He was suddenly feeling warm, as if the excitement had just been too much for him to handle.

"P-pardon me, I didn't mean to go off like that. I just... wow! What a crazy coincidence, non?" Already feeling much more at ease around this new acquaintance, he beamed at Raz. The violin strings were already forgotten on the counter in front of him, as well as the violin, itself.

She was a bit startled by Yves’ sudden burst of energy regarding the matter because he had been relatively passive before. However, she immediately jumped on that excitement. It’s good he’s excited and willing to talk like this. It means he’s comfortable with her, though it might also be the hype of finding someone in a similar boat. At least they’re connecting.

Oh no, it’s fine. Have to burst your bubble though since I just handed in my application a few days ago. Haven’t gotten word nor sound on whether I’m accepted.” she let out a sigh as she leaned on the table, one hand holding her head up. “No box with bottles inside but I have heard of the soul capturing escapades from someone else. Sounds tough.

Raz watched Yves for a bit, but let out a chuckle at his mention of the poor wolf. “There’s no looking back now, sweetheart. Got to do what you’ve got to do. Besides, now you have to take responsibility for that soul and thank it for becoming your’s. So don’t worry too much about it, you’re going to look after it in place of catching it.

If Yves had been a bit closer, she would have given him a few firm pats on the back.

Have to agree. What’s the coincidence of us running into each other like this? Must be fate telling us to meet up and become friends.” Raz might have playfully winked at Yves at the end there.

Oh. Yves immediately turned a shade of red and tucked his chin in, looking away. He had gotten a bit ahead of himself there. But still, what a small world. He looked back at Raz and smiled again, but he looked a bit troubled. Naturally, he always looked troubled, but he couldn't help his resting facial expression.

"Forgive me, I... sorry," he said sheepishly. What if this woman was denied her application now? He would feel so horrible. Would he ever be able to step foot in this music store again?

Thankfully, no other customers had come through the door after him. It was likely the weather keeping them from going out, and Yves looked up toward the ceiling as he heard the familiar - and welcome - sound of heavy raindrops splattering against the roof and windows. "There it goes," he mused, raising his brows at Raz.

"But I truly am sorry, I didn't mean to assume." He didn't know what to say at that point - he could say, 'I hope you are accepted,' but what if she was an unsuitable parent? She certainly seemed friendly, and the way she spoke of the soul he had captured caused him to think she had respect for that sort of thing. But he just kept his mouth shut and frowned.

The mention of friends brought him back and he tilted his head at her. Friends. He wasn't ever very good at making friends, having been such a workaholic since his early teenage years. Despite that, he did have friends, and he was never opposed to new ones. Again, he thought of how forward and direct this woman was, but he couldn't help but blush at her wink.

"Perhaps," he said, carefully, his frown deepening - not in annoyance, but thought. "You know, I do believe in fate, to a degree. My journey in finding a soul for my future raevan led me to believe in that sort of thing, I guess. I never really thought much of it before, though."

He drummed a finger against his cheek. "Well, Raz, I would certainly not mind keeping in touch with you, if that's alright. I am interested in seeing what comes of your application. Well, not just that..." A small smile formed on the corner of his mouth. "I mean, I wouldn't mind being friends, either..."

Raz immediately reacted when she saw Yves retract as if he did something bad. He didn’t do anything bad, and he shouldn’t have to feel embarrassed by it. The man got excited, and so he assumed. That was the end of it. “It’s alright, Yves.” She laughed, straightening herself and holding back her temptation to just reach out and rub the other’s forehead with her thumb. A weird thing she had developed as her father does that to her…something about wrinkles. There was a pause as they both listened to the heavy raindrops arrived.

She looked up instinctively at the sound, but smiled at Yves’ musing. “Mother Nature’s telling you to talk to me too.” a joke, “And really, it’s fine. Though it’s still questionable whether I get to join in on the fun or not, I’m glad to get to meet someone there too. It’s a nice place. I guess we’ll find out eventually.

There was a pause as she listened to Yves think over the concept of fate. She hummed in agreement before grabbing a few violin strings from the box she had placed on the table previous. Better not forget about these, the man did come here for them in this ridiculous weather after all. “Fate works in funny ways after all. Others might suggest it was destiny instead, but that term seems a bit too concrete about how one’s life would run. Either way, when life gives you lemon you make lemonade.” Raz was still smiling as she looked through the box, bringing out the necessary packages of strings. Despite not being too familiar with how to play a violin, she knows which string’s which thanks to having worked in the music store for a long time.

Yves earned himself a cheerful grin from the woman at the mention of them being friends. She reached for her cellphone and pulled it out, “I would love that, sweetheart. And I would love to meet your floating baby when they arrive. Though, I will need your phone number first because how else can I call you to pester about them if I can’t get in contact with you? I want to hear all the ‘horrible’ stories of the little monster’s shenanigans after all.

When Raz brought out her phone, Yves withdrew his from his pocket and unlocked it. He felt a little strange, exchanging numbers with someone he had only just met, but if she ended up being some kind of crazy stalker he could always... block her number. Or something. He hoped it wouldn't come to that. It was extreme to think of that, right?

As they exchanged numbers, Yves couldn't help but feel that this was a little fun. The Lab had already opened up so many new doors for him, and he was heading out of his comfort zone every day and meeting new people, people he would probably never have struck up a conversation with otherwise. It had just been much easier to focus solely on his work and his own close-knit circle of friends and family; now, he was preparing his home for the new arrival, even though he had no idea when they would arrive. He was talking to people behind counters, he was befriending strangers easily. His sister would be so proud. (Or terrified for him, he wasn't entirely sure which.)

A thought suddenly struck him. "Oh, cher. I did not bring an umbrella." He instinctively wrapped his scarf snugly around himself again and drummed his fingers against the counter, a nervous habit he felt he was beginning to pick up. He had driven there, but the parking at this time had been awful and his car was nearly a street down.

His shoulders rose and lifted in a combination of a sigh and a shrug. Ah, well.

"Um, may I ask you a personal question?" He watched her, somewhat warily. Bluntly, he asked, "If you're accepted, are you going to raise the raevan alone?"

He couldn't lie to himself, the idea of raising the equivalent of a floating child by himself was daunting. But he had felt confident enough when he applied, and he had taken care of the fel essence himself and he had captured a soul. He had made the decisions leading up to this moment, so he had to take responsibility for it.

It was exciting. It was. But it was also scary. Like a roller coaster, but... less riding up an incline and shooting down at an incredible speed and more... caring for and taking sole responsibility for the well-being of another creature that would have the same awareness as himself. Now that he had sent away the soul and fel essence, it was only a matter of time.

It was scary.

"Sorry for asking like that." He cleared his throat. "I guess that was rude."

Raz looked up from her phone as she heard Yves’ comment about not bringing an umbrella. She finished the last of the registering, and shoved her phone back into her pocket before motion for her new friend to give her a moment as she darted off to the back again. When she came back out, there was an umbrella in her hand. Handing it to Yves, she winked.

Here, take this one. I always bring a spare just in case. You can bring it back next time you come.” She can’t very well leave the poor guy walking in the heavy rain now can she. Though, to be honest, the woman had taken to leaving a spare at work just in case she gets assaulted by sudden rainstorms. Raz went about scanning the violin strings Yves would need for his violin later, and let out a small hum to show she was agreeing and paying attention when he asked her a question.

The question made her pause for a moment. However, the smile on her face never left.

It’s really okay, Yves. Feel free to ask questions. I mean, I’m probably worse when it comes to being rude and asking personal questions.” she laughed, “And yeah, for the most part. I’m not married, and I live on my own. So if I get accepted, I’m going to be raising the little bugger by myself. I still need to figure out how to tell my dad the grandbaby he wanted is going to be a little abnormal, but I’m sure he’ll love them.

The sound of the recite being printed distracted her for a moment, but Raz hummed again before packing the violin strings up and shoved the recite into the bag. She forced the monitor to face the direction of Yves so he can see the total before continuing.

It’s going to be an adventure, raising a child, but I’m sure it’ll be okay. For you and for me, actually. I think you’ll be a wonderful parent, Yves.

Yves held the umbrella in his hands and examined it briefly, eyes lighting up at the loaned gift. The music shop was a little out of the way, since he lived in Durem, but he didn't mind coming back again. Musical stores were calming for him, much like a book store or library. He made a mental note to return to the library soon, perhaps bring Hector along and see what kinds of books he liked. There was nothing like sitting back and reading on a rainy day.

"Thank you for this," he said, earnestly. "And... I also live on my own. Well, I have a dog and a cat. But no other people. My sister was the one who got married early and all that." He chuckled to himself.

Oh, the strings. He dug out his card and swiped it without much more thought; nearly forgetting the one thin he had come down there for, remarkable. He still had a bit to go before he had fully regained his composure.

When the transaction was finished, he looked up at Raz again, brown eyes looking past her and back again, distracted. "I've been trying to tell myself I will be a good parent... but I guess I won't know until they're here, huh?" He sighed. "No, that isn't the right attitude... I will do fine. You will, too."

Maybe some day they could have strange little raevan playdates. The thought made his stomach feel a little strange, like butterflies were suddenly swarming inside. A raevan. His own raevan. His own son, or daughter, or...

"Ah... thank you again, mademoiselle. Erm, Raz. I wasn't expecting such a fortuitous meeting, but you did make me feel a little better about all of this. I haven't been able to talk to anyone about it excitedly for a while." He dipped his head in thanks, mouth in a firm line. "I... I really do appreciate it. Let me know how I can repay you?"

You had some practice if you’ve got pets running around. A little different, but the care you provide is similar to an extent.” Raz pointed out, laughing slightly as she handed over the bag of violin strings. “And a married sister? She got any kids? Maybe she can offer advices.

Making sure that everything was in order, Raz grinned at Yves. She could see he was distracted by the idea of being a parent, and whether he would be good for them. Though as he had said: they wouldn’t know until the kid arrives. Anxiety is a very powerful thing, but it’s nice to see that Yves is picking himself out of it. “That’s the spirit.” She praised, “It’s fine to be worried but, in the end, you still need to believe in yourself. Doubt is normal, but don’t let it drag you down. And again, you have pets. If they’re living good and happy, I’m sure you can move up the notch and raise a kid just fine. Don’t worry too much alright? And if you need help, ask for help.

It really was nice to see someone who’s about to become a parent. The anxiety, and the joy of awaiting that new being into your life...It's a funny feeling but one most welcomed. And since the two of them were both part and, on her end, possibly joining Lab 305, Raz couldn’t help but think about what the future could hold. It would be nice if their kids could become friends. It would help them grow after all, and playdates would be great. Speaking from experience, Raz knows that despite having her father in her life, it was still relatively lonely growing up as an only child. It would help to make friends early on. Ah, the future possibilities are endless!

She let out a chortle and playfully waved at the man, “Just Raz is fine, sweetheart. And I’m glad I could help. There’s no need to try to repay me aside from maybe giving me a text or a call when your darling arrives, I would love to meet them. Anyways, give me a call if you need help alright? I’m always willing to offer.

The sound of rain grew in intensity, beating against the roof like thousands of tiny apples. Yves worried, briefly, for his own well-being once he was ready to leave. The thought of getting assaulted with brick rain didn't sound appealing in the slightest; neither did getting swept away in a gutter. He had been excited for the rain - books, coffee or tea, sitting by the window and falling asleep to the gentle sounds - but the torrential downpour was a bit much, even for his tastes.

He squared his shoulders and lifted his chin in a quick nod. "You have good advice, Raz. I appreciate your honest, really. And... I doubt they would have chosen me if they didn't think I was cut out for it. So I should stop worrying so much and just... allow myself to be excited. Something like that, right?" He offered a shy smile.

Strings in hand, Yves hoisted his violin case back up from the counter and under his arm, poised with his new umbrella. She had said there was no need to repay her, but Yves never let kindness go unnoticed, and was already brainstorming ideas for what he could do to make up for her kindness. Simply having sat and listened to him carry on was more than enough, but to loan an umbrella as well? Well, not that umbrellas were that expensive, but it had been the act of kindness, performed without hesitation, that had impressed him. People were so nice, sometimes.

"Well, Raz, I... must be going. But I will certainly keep in touch with you." He looked toward the door, a bit apprehensively. "Thank you for all of your help. I... needed to hear some kind words of encouragement, I think. It really did help."

As he headed toward the door, he turned and pressed his back against it, ready to use his body weight to force the door open since the wind was beating against it on the other side. "And thank you for this!" He held up the umbrella like a sword, prepared to open it as quickly as possible once he was out the door.

Yves hesitated for a moment, looking unsure, before adding, "Have a wonderful day, mademoiselle, and I hope to see you again soon."
