Who: Raz and Fisher When: August 25, 2015; early afternoon Where: The sidewalk outside of the Lab. Weather: Sunny, warm.

Some part of Fisher had thought that going to that party at the Lab would help him to choose what to force into his bottle, but all it had done was emphasize that he was entirely unprepared for what his own future had in store for him. Babies were one thing—loud and messy, but ultimately if you treated them right, children loved you fairly unconditionally. Raevans, however, weren't obedient vessels, waiting to be filled with the rules of polite society. They were floating bundles of contradictory curiosity who wanted to eat fruit from birth, no matter how sick it made them. He had known all of this deep down, he had just chosen to ignore it. It had felt way more important at the time to appease his father than it had to think sensibly.
Had he not been a Gridell he would have been at his wits' end. But Gridells were tough, resilient people who faced every challenge with... who was he kidding? He was at his wits' end. He found himself wandering past the Lab even when he didn't mean to, certain that one day he would go inside and ask for advice, but mostly he just hung around until he got bored or hot or hungry before turning around to go home. No one ever came out while he was here, and he wasn't yet desperate enough to admit defeat.

It took her a while. It had took her a while but Raz had finally done it. She had entered and applied for the Lab like she had wanted, and now it was just to wait. The pink haired woman could feel excitement coursing through her as she pushed open the door. It was just a matter of waiting on whether she got accept or not. Ohhhhh, she hoped she made it. Though that only brings the issue of what was she going to tell her father?
The man had always wanted grandchildren. That was what actually lead to her applying at Lab in the first place. However, while her father had wanted grandchildren, how would he react to something not so…normal? Guess she’ll find out if things go as plan.
Hopefully it will.
While deep in thought and jittery with excitement, Raz had not been paying attention to her surroundings. She had not seen Fisher, and instead of dodging out of the way as most would, Raz slammed into him.
Oops.
"s**t! I'm so sorry."

Fisher, on the other hand, had watched the woman's swift approach as it had happened, remaining squarely in her path as if he had wanted to be bowled over. He held up his hands in response to her apology, ever-present ring glinting in the bright sunlight as he grinned cheerfully.
"No harm done, as long as you're not hurt? That place," he gestured at the Lab, "it can definitely leave you distracted." He glanced behind her, and seeing no Raevan there he continued gabbing away. "Are you a guardian? I'm going to be... supposedly... after I do some things. Should be interesting!"
He lowered his hands, one of them extending toward her instead. "Fisher Gridell." She looked like fun. She also looked like she could beat the crap out of him. Even if the woman had only been in the Lab looking for a bathroom, she still seemed like a person to know.

Oh thank god he was okay. However, she had not expected the man to be related to the place she had just came out of…or the fact he would start questioning her! She stared at him as he talked before scratching her cheek. If it’s one thing she can agree, it would have to be that comment on that place leaving people distracted. Wouldn’t you too if you had just finished signing up to be an adoptee?
Raz was still listening when the man popped the question. There was a startled look on her face before she laughed, “Me? Oh no no no! I went in to fill in my application and just got out. Sorry to burst your bubble there, darling. If I’m lucky, I might get approved but right now I can only hope.”
She ended her sentence with an absentminded shrug. It barely took her a second to register the man, Fisher Grindell, had extended his hand out to introduce himself. Hmmm, not a bad name. Raz grinned playfully at him before taking the outstretched out and gave it a good shake, “Nice to meet you Fisher, name’s Raz. Raz Piper. And now that we have introduced ourselves…mind filling me in on what I should prepare myself for in regards to Lab? You know, aside from floating torso children.” She might have playfully winked at him at the end before letting go of his hand.

His smile persisted at her laugh and wink, even though he was afraid he had no real answers for her.
"Raz. A pleasure. And an excellent question, but one that I can't really answer without lying. I mean, I know what's happened to me so far, but I still don't know what to expect." He had almost completely gotten over actually seeing Raevans in the flesh at that party, but that didn't mean he knew anything about them at all. "I stopped by at random. It was a last ditch attempt to get my dad off my back, and I didn't think it would pan out at all. I still haven't told him he's going to be the grandfather of a... floating torso child." Fisher chuckled.
"But anyway, yeah. A few weeks later I got a big box with a couple of bottles and a note inside. I'm supposed to... capture a soul." He wiggled his fingers a little at that, as if it was the big reveal at a child's magic show. "That's half of what they are, though. I'd be pissed if someone, who could have made me anything, made me half coffee cup or walrus or something. So for now the bottles stay at home. And I harass perfectly nice people who just happen to be coming out of that place." He looked rather sheepish at that, but the smile was back before long. "You want coffee or lunch or something for the trouble? I promise I'm not trying to be creepy."

Oh? Last ditch effort? Sounds oddly familiar…Oh right. She was in the exact same boat. Her father tries not to pressure her, but the man definitely wants at least one grandbaby running around. The pink haired woman had heard the subtle hints since she’s hit thirty, but had chosen to ignore it for a while now. At least she’s finally taken to working on that.
It’s nice to know that someone else was in the same boat as her, though they definitely seem ahead in regards to the…procedures. “Oh man, who would think I would meet someone in the same boat? My dad’s been subtly hinting at wanting a grandbaby for a while now. Actually why I'm here today. ” a pause, “Though now I just need to figure out how to explain to him that he’s going to have one…a floating one. ”
There was a muted chuckle from her end, though she definitely seemed focused when Fisher started explaining what he got. A box with bottles inside. What could that be? Though what caught her the most was definitely what the man said next: capture a soul.
What?
“Capture a soul?” Raz blurted out, “So you have to capture the soul for the kid? Jesus. I knew it was magic, but definitely not expecting that. Sounds rough.” She crossed her arms and nodded at the information given to her. However, she seems to perk right up from the serious mood at the mention of coffee. “Coffee sounds good. And don’t worry about it! You’re not trouble at all. Hell, I think I’m giving you more trouble instead!” she stuck her hands in her pockets as she laughed, “So, any idea what soul you’re getting or have you already caught him or her?”

Unconsciously mirroring her as he stuck his hands in the pockets of his jeans, Fish started off in the direction of a coffee place he'd found while surreptitiously wandering the neighborhood a few days ago. He was pleased that Raz had taken him up on his offer, if only because he now had an audience.
"I think that if they wanted their grandkids to have legs, they shouldn't have poked at us so much," he said, chuckling even though he hardly made sense at all. "All I mean is that it takes more than wishes and dreams to get a baby, and I don't have time for..." He had been about to say 'love,' but given his track record that was hardly the case at all. Besides, saying such things to someone he had just met was oddly personal, even for him. "Things like that." Recovering quickly, he smirked as he continued. "But the soul. I've been thinking about it for months now and I still can't decide. There's a little piece of fabric on the bottle, and the note I got with it said whatever I pick has to match it. So brown and white. That's, like, most things." Fisher chuckled again. "So, yeah, I don't want to end up with a soup kid or an end table kid or something."
As it was only a block or two away, their destination was soon in view. It was very small, just a counter and a couple of seats. "There. Monroe's." Clearly the name made it sound more fancy than it was.

“My dad doesn’t even know I’m adopting right now. He’s going to flip if I get the chance.” Raz answered in all honestly while following the man with a slight smile on her face. The possible reaction from her father was one she anticipates with glee and dread – glee because her father would love the child, but dread because floating torso. Watching the other as he talked, she could guess what he meant by ‘things like that’ but didn’t press on the issue. She simply let out a small chuckle, “There’s always a time and place, maybe just not right now.”
She nudged him slightly as if trying to cheer him up a little on the topic and actually laughed at the idea of a soup or table child. “Maybe if they had souls.” She mused in jest, “Who knows? Maybe you could get a cute little mouse baby. Imagine the ears.”
Upon arriving at the front of their destination, Raz made a small note at the name before looking inside. Quite the cozy place, no? “So Fisher, any suggestions on what to get? Maybe soup?”
Okay. Maybe she’s just being a witty tease now.
