Who: Raz, Solo, and Zeke When: October 8th, 2015; around 8pm Where: Lab 305 Weather: Cool and breezy; clear skies with a full moon
This was something of a new experience for Zeke, only because it had been so long since he had last done something quite like this. To his recollection Luka had been the last Frei born since today that Kyou had a direct hand in and did not require a Guardian going out and capturing a soul themselves. Then again, Kyou hadn't captured this soul. Neither had Jeremy or even Zeke. Instead it had been a colleague of the first man, a scientist on an oil rig who had caught the soul of a massive whale-like creature called an Akhlut when it turned up nearly dead after a massive oil spill way up north.
Regardless of how the soul had been obtained, Zeke was still more than ready for this. The Guardian - a woman by the name of Raspberry, which only made him more curious as to her character - had been contacted before Zeke had even got there which was something of a downer for the vet. He always enjoyed being the bearer of good news but what was done was done and he was informed that the woman was most certainly on her way and would be there very soon. He only had to wait, which he was doing with his usual trembling threads of patience. With a soft 'whoosh' the cover of Raspberry Piper's file was opened for the umpteenth time so he could peruse the information within.
Name: Gender: Male Soul: Akhlut Essence: Cleansing Petroleum
He focused on the Essence, the irony of the pairing after knowing just how the Akhlut ended up coming to be the soul not lost on him. Following the Essence name was a short blurb for the Lab's staff's benefit explaining what the Essence did. The Akhlut had died by oil. Now, it seemed, he would be able to use the same type of oil to help others.
What a thing... He couldn't wait to meet him.

Kid’s here.
KID’S HERE! KID’S HERE! KID’S HERE!
Those were the words which repeated itself over and over in her mind as adrenaline coursed through her veins. Raz was beyond enthusiastic thanks to a voice mail she had received moments ago. The entire situation would had been hilarious from another set of eyes but there she was, nearly dropping her phone and struggling to put her jacket on as her hands shook from joy. She had never struggled with locking the door before but, tonight, was probably the first time it had ever happened. Her hands were beyond listening to her at this point and it took her several times before it finally locked itself, but Raz was anything but irritated! Oh no, she was just much too happy! The call had come! It had finally come, and she would have cried and curled up into a ball if she wasn’t busy running through the night to Lab 305.
The sound of someone running into the front door of Lab 305 could probably be heard before the sound of it actually opening followed shortly after as Raz stood there in the door way. There was a joyful twinkle in her eye as the sound of her huffing could be heard as she tried to catch her breath. However, no matter how tired she might be from the running, the woman showed no trace of tiring at all. Instead she was vibrating with energy.
“Hi!” she greeted as she slowly took her steps inside, “I’m Raz Piper! I got called earlier today about the kid?”

He had expected the screech of tires as their brakes were applied with just a little too much force, perhaps coupled with the visual of a car careening into a spot right out front on two wheels. A car door opening and slamming shut in haste - or perhaps a too loudly spoken curse word as the driver fumbled with a seatbelt that at this point in time had been forgotten and in the locked position. The sound of rushed footsteps were a given, as was the bang and merry jingle of the door chime as one of the two lobby doors was crashed open. Panted breaths oh for sure, and of course the new Guardian herself but Zeke had not been expecting a vibrantly pink-haired woman looking as if she happened upon and decided to participate in a marathon on her way over.
When he laid eyes on the woman, the vet couldn't help but look quite alarmed for a moment. His eyes had been diverted but had not missed a streak of pink hurtling toward the doors out of the corners of them and had fully caught the woman's display as soon as she hit the Lab building itself. He stood automatically - and by this time his pierced brows were lost among his choppy bangs - but it seemed Raz was much like himself in regards to these things: she recovered quick and was visibly bursting at the seams with excitement and joy.
Looks and grandiose reveal aside, the moment she started speaking Zeke decided right then he rather liked this Raspberry Piper.
He started to laugh when she spoke and with her energy added to the room his own responded to it, sending him to move away from his desk and quickly bridge the gap between them. As he approached his arms were open as if to hug her but when he neared he stuck out his right hand for both a shake and to simply give the huffing and puffing woman a hand.
"Well hey there! I've been expecting you!" His brown eyes twinkled with all that good humor he had. If and when she took his hand, she would find it to be trembling although the shake itself would be firm and brotherly. "And yes!! You're here to take home a Frei!" His face was split into an ear-to-ear grin and goodness he didn't know what he had been expecting with this mystery woman but he was more than pleased to see a kindred spirit as far as hair and attire and energy.
"I'm Zeke, nice to meet you Raz! I don't know if the call told you about me, but I'll be the one to take care of you and your boy tonight! Though before we start that...Would you like a drink of water or anything? You look like you ran here!"

Raz accepted the handshake welcomingly and was glad for the warm welcome, though she gave a brief shrug of ‘what the hell’ immediately after and gave Zeke a hug despite this being their first meeting. She was literally bouncing on her heels when she finally let go. In spite of all the excitement coursing through her, the woman did feel a bit baffled if only because what’s a Frei? She remembered talking to Yves about this and something regarding fel essences and capturing souls but nothing about Freis!
“Nice to meet you, Zeke! I’m just…I’m so hyped right now I don’t know where to begin! I…I…Oh my god. I just…I think I’ll be fine forgoing the water for all. I might throw up from how excited I am right now.” She commented before forcing herself to take in deep breathes, and to calm down. Yes this is a very exciting moment, but at the rate she’s going she’s more likely to scare the poor thing into a corner. “I-I’m sorry if I’m being a bit too eccentric here. Just…Give me a moment.”
There were a few moments of her just silently mumbling ‘oh my god’ and ‘A boy! A boy.’ before she finally deems herself calm enough, and gave Zeke a grin. “Okay, I think I’m okay now. I think. But um, yes nice to meet you. And thank you for taking the time for this! Um…I know this might sound a bit weird coming from me who’s screaming, but what’s a Frei?”
She felt like this was something she should know. Sadly nothing was coming to mind.

He wouldn't have lied if he was asked if the hug surprised him at first, but he returned it fully all the same. Raz's excitement only fed Zeke's own and the vet too was bouncing on his heels like a giddy school boy when she parted from him.
"Take all the time you need! Just don't throw up on me, please! I left my spare clothes at home!" He didn't believe she really would vomit but he had to put it out there all the same. In the few moments that she took to gather herself up and rein in her nerves the vet continued to bounce in his spot, head in a tizzy and every muscle in his body ready to simply go go go. When Raz finally spoke again he was alert at the first word, grin stretching somehow farther across his face and laughter spilling out yet again.
"I had a feeling I'd have to give you a crash course of things!" He had expected it actually. Raz was coming into the project blind and it seemed she hadn't had the chance to meet any Raevan or Guardian between submitting her application and now. No matter! Zeke was more than ready for this. "A Frei is what we call a young Raevan. Your Raevan," and here he paused only to waggle his brows playfully, "is at the first stage of his development. As he grows he'll physically develop more and we have terms for those stages as well - Sigel and Valsaros."
No examples for those two, at least not without tracking Laz down and parading him around and on top of that taking too long he was sure the Incubus wouldn't like it. That in mind there were only a couple things to do in this instance but instead of getting ahead of himself - one of them had to keep their wits about them somewhat! - Zeke gestured to the desk he had been sitting at with Raz's file left open and abandoned on top of it.
"I know you're excited to see your kiddo and I am too but before we go see him why don't we get a few of the necessities out of the way first? I need to give you some things to look over and sign and of course I'll answer anything and everything you would like to know about the Lab, the Raevans, the Guardians, and even myself! What do you say?"

Raz only laughed in return to Zeke’s jest, and gave him a pat on the back. “And you shall be spared!” she joked, glad that Zeke was just as excited about her meeting her raevan as she was. The information was absorbed as if she was a sponge, and she nodded at the names: Frei, Sigel and Valsaros. Got it, and her baby boy’s at the Frei stage. The pink haired woman perked up at Zeke gesturing towards the desk, and immediately she followed.
There was still a bounce in her steps as she moved.
“Sounds perfect to me!” Raz chimed, ready to read and fill out the necessities before getting the precious baby. Though, she would be lying if she wasn’t curious about fel essences and such…despite not really knowing what fel essences were. Hmmm, maybe it’s time to ask some questions. As the procedure goes, Raz would briefly go over what was on the papers handed to her before signing the material as requested. Though there truly was no time like the present and thus she started the questioning, “I actually ran into a Guardian a while back, Yves? He’s a sweetheart, but he mentioned something about fel essences and soul capturing? Never heard about Frei, Sigel, or Valsaros until now. Though I’m glad you’re here to help me with that.”
A sheepish laugh came from her as she scratched at her cheek in embarrassment, “Again, thanks. Though, mind telling me what the babe’s fel essence and soul are? I’m really curious! And what does soul and essence do for a raevan? I know that we’re supposed to look after these guys, but what do I need to make sure to do? Like, what does he eat? Is there something specific I need to make sure to do for him?”

Zeke led Raz to the desk, letting her take her seat before going around to take his own. He sat on the edge of his chair, pulling free two sets of stapled forms from beneath the top sheet he had been looking at and passing them over to Raz.
"You don't have to read too in depth with these. Guardians usually sign release forms for their Soul Glasses and Fel Essences as well as return forms. You're skipping those procedures but we need your name and all that jazz on them anyway just for show." He handed her a pen from a colorful cup and let her get down to business there, perking when she mentioned Yves.
"Oh you met Yves?! He's great!" And it seemed he did a little of the legwork for him. Zeke would have to send him a thank you for that but for now the vet nodded to the first question, tapping the sheet of paper he had held onto while she took care of the others. "I'm glad you asked all of that, hah! Your Raevan's Fel Essence is called Cleansing Petroleum. Thick black oil that actually heals and cleans whatever it touches rather than making them sick or dirty."
Verbatim, of course.
"His Soul is a creature called an Akhlut. I did a little research and it's a mythic aquatic creature found in Inuit lore. I'm...not sure how to describe it because I never saw it myself, but apparently it sort of looks like a whale and a wolf had a massive baby." He chuckled, knowing how unprofessional that probably sounded but his own digging into the creature yielded mostly renderings from Inuit artists and a couple more that belonged to some schlocky direct to DVD monster movie. Even his best sources had been sparse but a few things had remained the same throughout them all; the Akhlut was an Inuit beast and it had attributes of both orcas and wolves. "As far as what those two things do for him well...Raevans usually get most of their appearance from their souls. Here, look at this photo of my Raevan and tell me what you think her soul is."
With another waggle of his brows the raver pulled out his phone and brought up a picture of Anastacia for Raz to see. The lavender-haired femme had gotten a bit more comfortable with photos - at least when Zeke asked, like for this one - and she looked mildly out of the phone with her face forward. All six eyes were on display and her crown was relaxed around her face and head. Her wings, too, were positioned placidly although there was no denying the sharp, spear-like quality to them as they jutted out from her shoulders.
"Essence seems to dictate color although, as you can see, sometimes that's not always the case." Hair and human eyes aside, Anya was all black widow. "A Raevan's make up also dictates their special abilities. Every Raevan develops powers over the course of their lives and you'll come to notice that some of them stem from their Essence while others come from their Souls." He had no idea what sort of powers would come from the Akhlut but the Essence hinted at someone who could possibly clean up a room in no time at all.
"You'll need to make sure he has a room to sleep in, of course!" That was a tease on Zeke's part and his tone said it. "But really...he'll need a space to call his own. Food, clothing, basic necessities anyone and anything need to be comfortable. You'll have to teach him, be a parent to him. Make sure he meets others and gets out in the world, that sort of thing. As far as food goes he can't eat human food. Not yet anyway. Generally what a Raevan eats is dictated by their Essence so in this case..."
He hummed a note, sucking on his lip ring for the briefest of moments before shrugging his shoulders with a smile.
"I'd say you'll probably have to consider an oil bill...or adding to the one you already have!"

The Akhlut soul wasn’t so hard to believe since they were handling floating torso babies. However…cleansing petroleum[//i]? That’s…strange. Though as strange as it was, she found it ironic that something like oil would have healing properties…and associated to marine life despite it being special marine life. A mental note to research a bit more on the Akhlut was made as Raz handed back the signed papers and gave a little snort at the mention of ‘a whale and a wolf had a massive baby’.
“So I can expect a fuzzy whale baby?” Raz joked in good humour. She was a bit curious as to why Zeke suddenly pulled out his cellphone, but that was all cleared the moment he showed off a beautiful lavender-haired lady. She’s glorious! “Oh my…She your’s? She’s stunning! Oh, I hope I can meet her in the flesh one day.”
She was stuck in a state of awe and already smitten with Anya, but does eventually go back to trying to figure out what soul Anya bares. Could she be…”A spider?”
It would seem Anya associates more to her soul then her fel essence, but is that why her hair’s such a pretty lavender? A look of deep concentration and thought was on her face as she tried to figure out what might the fel essence might be purely out of curiosity. However, she displayed a look of surprise at Zeke’s teasing before laughing as well. A room was definitely prepared for the baby boy, but it holds nothing but the bare minimal. She expects it to become more customized as the Frei develops, though she hadn’t expected the room to be used so soon in all honesty.
“Ah, I think I’ll be just fine then…Well, aside from explaining why I’m buying and bringing oil home.” Raz snicker her own joke before taking in a deep breath, “So...we set?”

He chuckled at her joke and shrugged.
"Can't say! I don't know what the soul looks like for sure and more to the point - I haven't seen him yet!" He was all smiles despite the admittal, bouncing in his seat. When Raz exclaimed at the photo of Anya, Zeke nodded eagerly and puffed up like the proud papa he most definitely was. "She is! Her name is Anastacia and you guessed it right - she's all spider. Black widow, to be precise."
He might have had a few-second video where she turned around and happened to show that tell-tale red hourglass but Zeke wasn't about to find it. Right now this meeting was for Raz and her boy in a room down the hall, not his own paternal show and tell. Besides, Raz was turning out to be the kind of people Zeke loved to associate with so if things went well with the Akhlut boy here today he would definitely suggest they get together for a meet and greet with the two Frei.
"I'm sure once people see him they'll understand why the large quantities." He winked and started to nod but held up his pointer finger lest he forget. "Lemme just check these real quick..." He collected the paperwork he had given her to sign, flipping through each page in turn to scan each line that needed a name or a date. By the end of the final page the only ones left blank were the ones that required his own. They were good.
"I'll have to sign these later and there's actually one more set of forms to sign, but that can all wait." He waved his left hand and made a face as if paperwork was an inconvenience that was best left for the end of these things. "So if you're set, I'm set! Let's do this thing!"
He got up so fast his feet stamped against the tiles and from there it was a leggy dash to get out from behind his desk and to the lobby door first. It was only polite to hold the door open for a lady and even more so when there were certain traditions to uphold! When Raz was through Zeke took up step next to her although it was painfully obvious he was trying so hard not to take the lead or dart out and down the hall to the proper door. He had a job to do!
"So you already know that I haven't seen your kiddo yet. That's kind of a tradition we have here for every Guardian who comes to pick up their newborn." His steps were so bouncy his mohawk trembled with every step. "Of course that's not the only one we have. When we get to his room you're the first person he sees. I'll knock to let him know we're here and open the door. Once it's open, you go right on in, okay?"
As he finished, he stopped in front of said door and pivoted to face Raz with a luminous grin. Zeke was all jitters now, so ready to meet the Frei who until now had been known as a mysterious dark shadow occupying one of the Lab's tanks. He waited for any protest, any sign or sound or signal that Raz wanted to wait or hold off just a second to collect her equally electric nerves. Only when an okay was given did he start his count.
"One...two...three..." He knocked twice on the third count and let the door swing in.

Raz let out a snort at Zeke’s wink before absentmindedly bouncing on her heels. Soon, she can go see the cinnamon roll…Or would he actually be one? She’ll find out then, but for now they…
It was time.
Raz had to hold in the squeal she nearly let out before skipping after Zeke, providing a nod of thanks for the door opening as they went on their way. It was nice to see that she wasn’t the only person to be excited about this, and it was a really nice feeling. However, she can’t help but be a bit concern as they traveled through the building. So many thoughts of uncertainty just suddenly came full force into her mind, and yet they only resulted in the briefest of pauses. They can work through it all, she knows they can. Once again, a deep breathe, and the woman was fine and walking hurriedly down the hall. She made nods to show that she was listening, but it wasn’t until they got to the door that Raz finally spoke again.
“Oh boy…Let’s do this.”
==== A monochrome figure floated idly inside the room. He seemed bored as he went around to examine the room for the second time in a row, but the sound of knocking startled him out of his boredom. He stared at the door with cautious wide eyes before bracing himself for whoever was coming in…Actually he seemed more ready to start a fight then for a peaceful talk.
==== Green eyes met golden, and Raz was speechless. There, in front of her, stood the raevan…maybe not stood, more like floated. He looked like he had stepped out of an old horror movie…though those eyes. Oh man, she’s already in love.
“Oh my god…” she breathed, walking forward and looking up at the raevan. Though that didn’t work too well as the boy moved backwards to keep distance between them. He was floating higher with every step she took, and was glaring at her as if trying to scare her off. And…this was when Raz darted forward and launched herself at the Frei for a hug.
“****!!“
“LANGUAG—“
They both went crashing to the floor while Raz still had him in her grasp. The result was…entertaining so to say. From the loud crash Raz had landed on the floor, laughing, as she still had her hold of the Frei in her arms, while the other was pressed up against her chest thanks to reflexive clutching. There was silence from the Frei as confusion and shock settled in.
What just happened?

He had been ready to wait a few minutes outside the door to let woman and Raevan get to know each other. It was what he usually did after all as those first moments were the ones that often turned 'who are you' into 'you are mine and I am yours'. It was a special time, one that turned even the most eager and excited of Guardians into gaping, awed figures unable to do much more than stare.
Because of that expectation the yelled swear of a male voice followed by a cry of "LANGUAGE" and a crash caused a great deal of alarm and had the vet scrambling through the door as fast as his suddenly jellied legs could take him. His brown eyes fell upon a monochrome Frei in a bear hug and a laughing pink-haired woman who did not seem too keen on letting him go so soon.
"Are you okay?!" Despite the scene and the laughter that bounced off the office walls the words that came out of Zeke's mouth did so on a higher octave than usual. Not that he could really help it; his heart was pounding and had launched itself somewhere in the vicinity of his throat. "I mean--"
He cut himself off as the scene sunk in. Raz laughing, her Frei - wingless but sporting a single fin sticking out of his back, black and white and grey all over as if he had just pulled himself out of an old movie - held to her breast and motionless from the shock of it all. Soon thereafter, his own laughter started up and Zeke was unable to hold it back.
"Oh my god!" He moved into the room where Raz now sat, one hand on his gut as a stitch started to form. "You scared the bejeezus out of me! Are you okay? Is he okay?"
He crouched down a few steps away from the pair, now noticing the strikingly colorless Frei had the most vivid yellow eyes he had ever seen. The hand he had at his stomach went to his mouth to try and stifle the uninhibited noise he was making, succeeding there at the very least.
Well that sure is one way to make an introduction!

The disoriented Raevan remained where he was as the pink haired woman threw a thumbs up and a reckless grin at Zeke as the man hurried in.
“Perfect!” came one voice as it laughed and continued to join with Zeke’s, but the other…well, the raevan was silently trying to break out of the grasp of his guardian. Raz seems to also be the only one responding to him, and not attempting to break free. “I’m pretty sure baby boy here’s perfectly fine too, landing in my boobs and all. They’re lovely airbags after all.”
Baby boy. Of all the things she’s calling him baby boy. It sounds down right degrading, but the tone she’s using also seems…endearing? There was a brief muted sound of huffing from the monochrome boy as he continued his attempts at breaking out from the woman’s grasp. However, as time went, he seemed oddly defeated and just looks up from between the woman’s breasts in what could only be described as a pout. Raz didn’t look at the raevan until she felt the struggling stop and was met with a face full of reluctant defeat. She, once again, laughed and promptly kissed him on the forehead.
The Frei’s look of irritation melted into one of bafflement.
“You’re going to be just fine darling, just fine.” Raz mumbled to herself as she cupped the Frei’s face and gently stroked it in an endearing manner. The look of confusion remained but, as it disappeared, the raevan pulled his pink haired guardian into a hug. A content sigh escaped his lips and he finally got into a comfortable position, and a faint sound could be heard.
“Mine.”
The declaration resulted in a giggle from Raz as she returned the hug, “Yes. Your’s.”
Their eyes met.
“Raz is your’s.”

Raz's quip about her own personal airbags made Zeke's attempt at stifling himself utterly fruitless as the hand fell away thanks to a mix of titters, guffaws, and chuckles. Crouched as he was, as soon as his stomach started to stitch the vet fell right on his a**, bonking it rather smartly against the tile. Naturally, this only made him laugh harder.
"I can't!!! I can't I can't I can't I can't--" By the way he held his stomach and the redness splotching his face and ears the word 'breathe' would be the winning guess at what he was trying to say. His face was so sore, his lungs burned for want of air, and his stomach was tight enough that his bladder south of that was threatening a situation similar to the one he had faced oh so many years ago upon the capture of a certain someone's spindly soul. Zeke squeezed his thighs together and tried to get himself under control.
It took some doing as the raver was one who was hard to stop once he got started in most everything but especially when it came to laughter. By the time he was able to gain some meager grasp of control over himself he was resting his elbows against the floor and wheezing, panting, giggling between breaths. His eyes were watery as he fixed himself upon the floor, raising both hands to cover his nose and pierced mouth. His fingertips just brushed at the tears collected at the very rims of his eyes and smeared the burning wetness out toward his temples, leaving a shine that was noticeable at the right angle.
"I think..." Zeke hiccuped and swallowed another laugh as the monochrome Frei pulled his Guardian into a hug and declared her as his own. "I think you two are going to be juuuuust fine."
He took his hands away from his mouth and gave them the brightest, sunniest, and single most painful grin of his life.

Raz turned her attention away from the Frei for a moment to wink in agreement with Zeke. As much of a crash course introduction as she had the baby boy had, it all ended well with the babe still lying in her lap. However, unnoticed by the pinked hair guardian, the boy was staring at Zeke with furrowed brows and pouting. Another stranger in his presence, another person to show who’s boss! Though, a relatively hard task with himself contently resting against his guardian; the look wasn’t discovered by Raz until she turned to check out why the raevan had become so quiet.
“I can’t tell if you’re just a grumpy baby or a solo actor.” She joked, ruffling monochrome hair before picking ‘both’ of them up, early a couple of whines from the floating torso, and letting him float in place. Raz then offers a hand over to Zeke to help pull the man back up while laughing jokingly, “And already I’m apologizing for his shenanigans.”
The Frei stuck close to Raz as he gave Zeke a once over one last time before promptly returning to looking around the room again. His brows were furrowed as he stared at the door, and then into the hallway in which Zeke and Raz came from. Curious, he stuck his head out to look down the hallways outside the room before returning and stuck close to his guardian again. The process repeated itself quite a few times as restlessness begun to settle in on the Raevan’s end.

Zeke took the offered hand but also used the nearby desk to help himself to his feet. Even standing, he held his aching gut with one hand and rubbed at his equally sore face with the other, eyes flicking between the woman and her ward at least until the latter set off to investigate the door they had come through and the hallway beyond.
"You'll get used to it," he teased, "believe me."
The Akhlut came back - surprising enough as that was, Zeke expected to watch him go out the door and not return without the humans going after him - although his repeated returns to that area marked the signs of someone who wouldn't be much of a 'sit around and do nothing and be fine with it' type.
"Hey kiddo, you alright?" Engagement was always a good way to deter a potential runaway and Zeke put on his best smile when he did so. "I'm sorry we're holding you up but trust me, you'll be outta here soon! How are you feeling? Do you like Raz? As soon as we're done here you'll be going home with her! Would you like that?"
So far the Frei had only swore and that had been the one time. Had he just been woken up from his tank? Was he one of the ones who started with a smaller vocabulary pool? Or was he like Anya had been - chosen when to speak and who to speak to when he felt like it or was spoken to first?
