[ S ] Saying Goodbye [ S ]

[- 796 words -]
[- Southern Sauti -]

Leaving her family had been bittersweet. No amount of excitement for the world around her would stop Amarone from feeling sorrow as she said goodbye to her parents and siblings. Each of her siblings said goodbye in their own way.

Syrah, ever the responsible sister, helped Amarone pack her bag and her tools. It was a long moment between the two, spanned out the night before she had to leave. Syrah was mostly silent, save for the times she would ask if Amarone remembered her water pack or the tools she would need to help her survive. It wasn't until the packing was almost over that Syrah began to ask questions. She was soft spoken as she asked Amarone about her dreams and expectations for what was to come, her head bowed and her brow furrowed in thought. Even now, Amarone wasn't certain if Syrah fully supported her journey, but her eldest sibling did share a smile and a tight hug once all the packing was complete.

Fe'Anno didn't meet her until the morning, eyeing her travel pack with small interest. He too asked her many questions about her oncoming journey, but instead of asking about specific transportation, he asked about what she expected to see on her way. They shared a small bit of wonder at what the world held, both children of a settlement that got few travelers and was not near any boundaries. He seemed content with the little time they spent, and as he went off Amarone was struck that her lazy brother actually got out of bed early to whisper with her before she had to go.

It took some time for Brachatta to make her appearance, the stubborn youngster resisting the goodbye until it was nearly too late. Amarone had just finished speaking with her parents, trying her hardest to ignore her mother's tears when little Brachatta rounded the corner with her chin held high. The two were silent for the longest moment before her sister raced into her arms, whispering soft goodbyes and letting Amarone how much she would miss her.

Saying goodbye to Brachatta was the most moving of all things that day, the youngest never having shown such emotion before that point. Amarone still felt a lump in her throat, miles away from home, when thinking about her sister.

Before, Amarone never thought about when she would return home. Her focus had always been forward, looking ahead and thinking about what she wanted to accomplish. Now, however, she couldn't help but wonder when she would make it back home to see her siblings. How long would it be until she could make it home, and how much would change?

Amarone took a moment to pause in her walk, sitting down and gnawing on her lip.

Would Syrah take over as head of the family - despite the fact she already was. Amarone knew she was irresponsible, but now she wasn't there to help her siblings out. Would Syrah step up and further support the family now that she was gone?

Fe'Anno, how would he do now that he was getting older, and how much would he change? Would he be more mature and responsible when she returned, instead of his lazy and playful self? How much would he grow and change and how much would she miss?

And Brachatta, the youngest of them all, she still had so much more to grow. Amarone knew she would come back and not recognize her youngest sister, both in personality and appearance. Brachatta would be the biggest change, and Amarone could only hope her sister would still recall and enjoy her presence when she made it back home again.

Wiping her hands on her legs, Amarone moved to stand once more. She turned to look back, possibly the first time she had since she left. Kesris was not in view anymore, although Amarone did expect that. Still, she could feel her home behind her, calling out and demanding she remember and return home. Maybe not today, maybe not next month, but eventually she would get to returning. The impact of her journey was still not fully realized, but it was starting to sink in.

Taking one last deep breath, and one last long look, Amarone adjusted her pack and turned away. Her past would always be a part of her, but her future was the world ahead. There was so much to see, so many people to meet, and so many things to discover. She would travel to the highest mountain in Zena, all the way through the warm heat of Tale. She would see her extended family she only heard about, and meet new people she would call friends. There was so much opportunity - it was time Amarone found it.

[ S ] Purchasing A New Best Friend [ S ]

[- 1,295 words -]
[- Tale -]

Amarone felt her eyes widen at the sight before her. The forests of Tale were magnification, and the coloring of the world something she had never seen before. It was like her eyes had been covered with a green and yellow glass, the lands were so different from what she called home. There was no pink, and the browns were shadowed by the grasses and trees.

She bent down to the ground to touch the sands at her feet. She had done this dozens of times since she first arrived, but the texture of the sands was something she could not get over. Amarone wished she could bottle the sand and take it wherever she went, just to remember the soft, feather-like texture. A thought suddenly hit her, and she took off her shoes to dig her feet into the sand, laughing to herself like a child. Many eyes looked at her as if she were crazy, but Amarone ignored it all as she enjoyed the sands by her feet.

Soon enough, the actions began to bore her and her mind began to wander. It had been weeks since she had crossed the border, and the animals around her continued to catch her eye. The birds themselves were a main focus, simply because of the bright colors they all had. Kinfa, the huge animals were interesting because of how small they started off. Fluffy fledglings turned into rideable creatures that people continued to use for fighting and protection.

But they were not the only birds in Tale, there were also bigger, flightless birds that Amarone saw all over. The Scorra were something funny to look at, considering their size and their small head. Amarone's first experience seeing one caused her to gasp before doubling over in laughter, he amusement at such creatures still tickling her insides. That was another time that the people in the area thought she was crazy, but she couldn't help it! Her excitement at all things new would always cause her to break out in excitement like a youngling.

As if reading her mind, she heard the cries of a Scorra in the distance, and her interest perked itself up quickly. Maybe it was a nomad using them as storage, or maybe it was a messenger. Yet, it sounded like a herd of Scorra, and that was something Amarone never got tired of seeing.

Moving her toes out of the sand and back into her shoes, she quickly picked up her pack and tools before rushing away from her spot. She ignored the bright plants and grasses she had been so fascinated with, although it was something she was sure to explore in the near future. Instead, she moved quickly until she reached an opening in the area, catching a sight of about a dozen Scorra all connected by rope, being led by a man who was shouting something about selling them.

It was a merchant, a Scorra merchant!

Hopping and skipping, Amarone rushed over to the growing crowd to listen to what the man had to say, her hand already reaching into her bag for her satchel of currency.

"Step right up and come see these amazing beasts! I've got an entire flock here for you to choose from!" The man yelled out, and Amarone finally squeezed her way through to look at the bright birds up close.

"These Scorra are set to travel to Oba, but you can get some now before we leave! They are perfect companions, and once you get one I can promise you it will never leave your side! They make perfect working creatures as well-" the man grabbed a rope and pulled one to the front, showing off some bags and straps on the animal that were clearly for messengers, "He may look weak without his wings, but I can promise you this boy is faster than you can ever imagine! It can get from Isd to Yerta in a quarter of the time it would take for you to walk!"

Amarone was not familiar with the lands, but based on the gasps of some of the people around her, it sounded like that was quite the feat. She couldn't help but look over each of the birds, eyeing the yellow and gold coloring and the strange markings that each feather showcased. There was a dark blue one, and a reddish one, all with spots and lines and dashes and blotches. They seemed content to sit there, nipping at the ground with their beaks or preening with their feathers.

One moved, and suddenly she caught sight one that reminded her of the sunset, colorings of pink, purple and blue. It brought her back to the many times she took a break from work, sitting outside of her small hut to enjoy the evening in silence.

"These birds were raised from the mother, bred and much more accepting of a companion. You will get a lot out of these guys compared to the wild ones - they are perfect for work, companionship, and travel! I'm leaving for Oba, but as I said, you can get one today as long as you are willing to pay!"

Amarone felt her excitement grow as she looked at the sunset Scorra, before she took a step forward and shouted out her interest. She pointed directly at the one she wanted, and smiled as the man made way to her side.

"You picked a beauty, she is perfect for travel. Not our fastest, but she is quite keen on finding an owner and making a friend."

"Oh, that sound perfect. I need something to travel with me, and you said that she can carry?"

"Yes! She can't carry an Earthling, but she does have the body for a few packs...if you have the coin, I can give her to you right now...I'm sure she'd like it!"

It was enough for her to hear. Amarone negotiated a little bit with the man, getting the price down slightly before her excitement was too much and she paid for the animal. He counted the change before turning away, grabbing the chord that held the creature and untying it from the rest. Spinning back around, he handed it to her, the Scorra moving with him without any sort of fuss.

"Good luck little miss!" He grinned, before turning and leading the birds along while screaming about his animals being for sale.

Amarone watched him leave, smiling with her teeth showing, before turning to look at the bird once more. Up close, the bird appeared more stunning with the spotted markings and striped tail. It cooed softly, pawing at the ground before looking at her once more.

Amarone took a chance, and began to move closer, her hand shaking with excitement as she went to reach out. The Scorra shook her head, before leaning in and letting Amarone's hand touch her cheek. The girl gasped loudly, before gently brushing her fingers across the fine feathers. It felt even more amazing compared to the sands she had been playing with, and she couldn't help but continue to move closer and pet the Scorra all over. It began to make a noise like a chuckle, before butting cheeks with Amarone. The girl couldn't help but let out a bright laugh.

"Your name is Tulara now, and you are going to spend time seeing the world with me." She cooed back softly, petting the bird for a little longer before grabbing the rope. It seemed as if Tulara was keen on walking with her, but she would keep it safe and sped a few days with the lead before letting her go. For now, she was just content with her purchase, and her new companion and friend.

[ S ] Special Order - Sailscale Sling [ S ]
[ Class Affinity Solo ]

[- 1,004 words -]
[- Tale -]

Amarone stretched her fingers out as she settled everything near her camp. Tulara was near by, grazing silently as the two began to settle in for the afternoon. The Wind girl was giddy with excitement, her mind and body buzzing after her meeting with Eije. A special order - her first - had caused her to bounce from side to side, her hands full of fabrics and tools and measurements. She had been asked to make a Sailscale carrying item, something for the petite girl to take her familiar without any sort of damage to either.

She needed something wearable, that would fit the creature and allow the owner to fight as needed. Clearly, two straps were ideal, as the creature was not small in the slightest. Amarone began to sketch her design out, the straps would wrap around Eije's shoulders, before gathering in the back in one area. There, down her spine would be a strip of leather that would withstand Sailscale claws, and would fall down to the girl's knees. The straps would be two places for the leather to sit, spreading the weight across the girl. Amarone knew that Eije didn't want a stomach strap, but she included two ropes for her to tie around her waist just in case.

The sling itself was tricky, and would require a clasp so it could pull up to the top of the fabric. In fact, Amarone added two, they would sit near the shoulders and allow the sling to stay sturdy and balanced. Additionally, Eije would be able to unhook either side to allow her familiar to slide out if it was stubborn - the creature could get in and out on its own, but sometimes familiars had a will of their own. All together, it would look like a sling and would be sturdy enough not to swing.

Amarone was content with the design, and moved to grab the leather they had purchased from the vendors. She took her sharp knife and cut the fabric, leaving some room to fold over and sew it together tightly and keep it sturdy. It took some time to cut and stitch, but she eventually finished the straps, making them slightly longer so she could adjust it.

She then turned to the sling, remembering the dimensions of the sailscale and cutting and stiching it as well. This time, she only left room on one side, where she could cut as needed in the morning. She also cut two little ropes of leather to use for the clasp, also leaving them aside to stitch on in the morning. On the other side, she used the tough wood and more leather to make little hooks for the ropes to catch on to. She made sure to make them very long so they could be stitched in tightly and securely, as they would be the main way to hold the entire thing up.

As she laid it all out, she nodded and fixed everything as needed, adding more supports and items to make it all fit together. She stitched in the straps to the top of the sling, along with the hooks, as she knew that they would be fine in their size. The bottom of the straps and the other side of the sling were left bare, Amarone knew she would need to adjust as needed.

Amarone knew it was late, but she continued to check the item instead of sleeping. Once she was certain everything was tight, neat, and would need nothing else until she saw her client, she turned to look toward her sleeping Scorra.

The sun was just rising, and the Scorra seemed to glow with the light reaching their place. Amarone scooted closer to her familiar, letting out a long sigh and relaxing on the ground.

"I think I can do this...I think I can really do this, Tulara" She whispered to her companion, her smile softening to a light one, "Everyone in this world is in need of help. They may think that they are content with their ways, but I know I can find something to make their life easier...I know I have the power and ability inside of me..."

And it was true, she could just feel it in her bones. The excitement drove her to make something magical, something that would forever change Eije's life. the girl clearly wanted a solution, and it was fate that Amarone was there to provide it. Her hands, her thoughts, everything she could do to provide to others. Happiness and an easier life was something she wanted to make happen. There was no way she was made to fight, or to settle. She was made for this, to explore the world and impact as many people as she could.

Others may not see it. Others may not believe it. But, as long as Amarone did, she would be content.

Even if hundreds, if thousands of people turned her away, she already had someone who wanted her help.

With that thought in mind, Amarone moved to stand, stretching her back and realizing the morning was upon her. It was time to head back to the settlement and try out the new item with Eije. Her energy was back tenfold, her mind thinking of all of the exciting reactions the girl may have. They got wilder and better each second, and as she packed up the fabric she pictured the girl sobbing at how helpful the item will be.

The thought made her laugh, as she knew that Eije would most likely not sob on her shoulder. However, the idea warmed her heart, and caused her to grow more confident in her dream. She knew that, after this, she would begin the journey to making herself known, to helping others just like she was helping Eije.

"Come, Tulara..." She told her companion, setting the sling and the parts on the great bird's back before patting and gesturing for her to follow, "Let's go and make someone happy."

[ E ] Did You Hear? [ E ]

[- Event Located Here -]
[- 817 words -]
[- Southern Sauti -]

Amarone was at a crossroads. There were two directions she could go now that she had explored Tale. She could go south and see Oba, the newly opened country of the agressors from the great war. Or, she could go see Jauhar, the land of beautiful trees and bright fruits. As she sat thinking over her next steps, she couldn't help but ask around to see if anyone had any great advice. She anticipated a lot of frustration with Oba, but she never expected the answers she would get.

Amarone moved to stand and approach a Leafling, putting on her brightest smile and trying to focus on her goal for the day. The Leaf member seemed keen to speak, if for a short amount of time, and so Amarone began to explain her travel dilemma. As she spoke, the man seemed keen about Oba, but when she began to describe her interest in Jauhar, he grew stressed and even angry.

"Haven't you heard?" He demanded, having interrupted her mid-sentence, "There have been attacked out there, with crazy Jungle Women ambushing travelers and leaving them beaten and without anything. That jungle is no place for a girl to go wandering around in, and the only thing you will find there is a busted lip once they attack you. Take my word, girl, and travel south. The Obans are much safer than those savage women."

Amarone was at a loss as the man stomped off, and when she began to listen to the people around her, she heard other rumors and tales of attacks. She saw travelers with mussed clothing claiming to have been struck down, and others who whispered how they faced the 'beasts' and survived with their stuff.

Her chest hurt as the rumors were spread out more, and she quickly gathered her stuff and Tulara before rushing away from the central hub.

Amarone couldn't believe that the Alkidikes, the ones who she had heard about from Wyome and others, would be doing such a thing. It sounded like the vicious tales she heard of Obans all those years ago. It was a different race, but still the people spoke up about war and attacks without a care in the world. Peace, it seemed, would never come to the lands.

Despite them being rumors, Amarone turned her gaze south toward Oba, and eventually Matori. She knew she wanted to visit Jauhar, see the shifter lands and experience the beauty that was the forest. Yet, she couldn't help but take heed to the rumors and continue down. Safety was a big deal, and she had no way to defend herself or her animals. Plus, Oba was an interesting place filled with unknown people and discoveries. Jauhar would always be there, and if the rumors died down she could swing back up and across the border.

For now, she would head to the sands and the sea.

It took a few days for her to make it near the border, but still the rumors followed her when she spoke to travelers and merchants. People seemed keen to share their experiences and warn her, or even congratulate her for heading south. In the beginning, she shared her distress with locations, but based on the responses she got she kept that part quiet. Even so, travelers still would warn her to never go west, offering their advice when she never asked for it.

It distressed her, because she wanted to see the world and help others.

Amarone often found herself avoiding merchants on the road, bowing her head and moving to the side to let them pass. The negativity frustrated her, and called to her at the same time. Maybe there was something that the Alkidikes needed, maybe she could help. It was a foolish thought, but Amarone was always a dreamer, and she always wanted to find out the whys of things.

Oba and Matori would be a safe trip, but why would she keep things safe? Why should she hide from things like this? Amarone felt helpless, she felt that her need to help others would never be solved if she avoided everything. This thought occurred as she passed the mark and headed into Oba, keeping close to her Scorra and ignoring the rumors around her. All anyone could speak of was Jauhar and the attacks, and it was frustrating.

"I just want to see the world...and I guess I never expected it to be this dangerous..." She whispered to Tulara, walking closer to the first major settlement in Oba, "...there has to be more to this story, more to what is going on. Let's get what we need and see these lands, and when we are done, let's see what is really going on in Jauhar."

It was foolish and reckless, but Amarone just had a feeling she needed to see what was going on for herself.

[ CQ ] Madness Master [ CQ ]

This Quest is for Amarone who is striving to become a Rogue.

[- Quest Located Here -]
[- 3,397 words -]

User ImageAmarone had just entered Oba when she started to hear gossip about another inventor in the town she was in. She couldn't help but notice that the words 'brilliant' and 'dangerous' and even 'insane' being tossed around in the same conversation, but maybe it was an overreaction?

Amarone needed a teacher, and this looked like a good place to find one.

But it seemed that all the gossip she had heard was scarily on mark. Not only was the man totally brilliant and way ahead of his times as an inventor, he was also creating machines with the intention of putting people into a crazed frenzy...

Quest Tasks
||. The quest should start with Amarone hearing of the inventor and the mostly negative rumors surrounding him.
||. She should seek him out, but once found, she will find he is working on a sound device, seeming to be more like a war machine.
||. This device has only been tested on animals so far, but it easily effects Janarim to the point of a crazed frenzy.
||. Thrilled that his device is working, he has decided to start his human testing.
||. Amarone has to decide whether or not it's worth using him as a teacher when what he's doing is so ethically uncalled for, but he's obviously brilliant.
||. Whether she decides to use him as a teacher or not, Amarone should decide whether she needs to take actions to stop his research.

A lot of Earthlings seemed keen on getting their hands on weapons after the second great war. Although it wasn't anything too terrible, the worry of the Extremists (and now the Yaeli) crossing the sea had many rushing to equip themselves with a basic weapon - the dagger. Amarone knew she needed one, but first she wanted to learn exactly what one was.

Traveling to an Oban blacksmith, she carefully evaluated and watched the skill required to craft such a weapon. It was simple, yet had so many steps and requirements to make a balanced and sturdy blade, that she needed to spend over a week observing the man before her. Finally, when they both agreed she was ready, she was able to make her way to a forge.

The heat was immense, but not too terrible, and she was able to slowly pound away at the metal. It glowed a bright red from the heat, and every hit she made sent a spark up. As she continued to shape the blade according to the blacksmith's specifications, sweat dripped down her brow. Finally, the blade was finished, and she set it aside to cool before focusing on the hilt.

It took more time to work with the thick, sturdy wood, wrapping it in fabric and then placing the blade in the hilt. Then it was all about testing the weight. While she was no professional, Amarone had a feeling that the blacksmith was impressed with her work for a first-time creation.

As she walked to the side, the blacksmith approached and explained she could attempt to customize it. It took more fine-tuned skill, but could result in something worth keeping or event selling. With a grin, Amarone agreed, and was dragged to the side room that housed the tools needed to customize the item.

Amarone looked at the tools before her, examining each in detail. She had chiseling tools to add markings, different colored wraps, and even a tool to reshape the blade. Touching each slowly, she finally decided to grab the blade altering device and began to heat up the current blade. Recalling the same techniques she used to make the other, Amarone began to shift and alter the blade so it was slimmer at the tip. It was a tedious process, but eventually she got the tip to the design she wanted and let it cool yet again.

Amarone moved to stand, walking out to the blacksmith and showing him her alterations. The blade was thinner, smoother, and shined in the light. It looked delicate but dangerous, and she was quite proud of her creation. However, the blacksmith seemed less than pleased, and all at once pulled the dagger out and slashed at the wood. In a single swoop, the item broke in two, the metal having been weakened too much to deal with the action. At a loss, Amarone felt her shoulders slump. Maybe weapons were not something she should focus on right now.

Well, there were always fabrics and slings...she was always good at that.
