But I don't want to fight! - SOLO

why ismene forgoes warrior training
- "Mom..." Ismene whined as she closed her journal and looked up at her mother who was in the doorway of her room with a sword in her hand. Ismene knew what her mother wanted even before her mother even spoke up. They had the same conversation at least once a week, and Ismene always dreaded it. She had been lucky to be able to avoid her mother so far that week, but she knew that sooner or later her mother would find her.
"Ismene dear, how are you going to protect yourself if you don't want to practice? You have your nose in books to often, it's not enough to read about fighting you actually have to do it. Now come on and take the sword and come to the back yard with me and practice." her mother said sternly as she held the sword out towards Ismene. It was evident that her mother wasn't in a good mood, and Ismene knew that she was about to make it even worse. She shook her head at her mother. She didn't like to fight with her mother, not physically or verbally, but she just wished that her mother understood that fighting wasn't for her.
Taking a deep breath Ismene decided that she would try something she never had before. Sometimes she took the weapon and did as her mother wished, but most of the time she just told her no and went back to her books. Maybe if she reasoned with her mother than Ildiko would see that Ismene wasn't going to change her mind and pick up a sword, or any weapon, any time soon. "Mom I don't want to fight. Sure I love to study battles and learn about all the different kinds of weapons, but I don't want to ever have to use that knowledge on a battle field." Ismene pleaded. "I wish you would stop trying to press your old life on me. I don't want it. I want to be more like dad..." she said as she felt the tears forming in her eyes. Ismene closed her eyes to try to prevent them from falling. She hated disappointing her mother but at the end of the day this was her life not her mothers. She couldn't stand seeing her own blood, why did her mother think she would be okay spilling the blood of others?
After a few minutes, when Ismene felt she had control over her emotions, she opened her eyes too an empty doorway. Her mother had left, and taken the sword with her. Although she didn't see if Ismene knew that her mother was disappointed. All she had ever wanted was a daughter to be a warrior like her, and she got Ismene who had no desire to ever be a warrior. Ismene had a feeling that this was the reason why her parents fought, and by saying she wanted to be like her father that she just made things even worse for the pair. Her parents tried to keep the fighting from her but she heard them fighting, she wasn't stupid, and it was normally about her. Her mother would say she regretted being with someone who wasn't a warrior and insisted that he was the reason for Ismene's lack of wanting to be one. No matter how many times she told her mother she wasn't cut out of the whole warrior lifestyle Ildiko insisted that was because Ismene wasn't giving it a chance.
With a sigh Ismene shook her head, shaking the foul mood left by her mother as she did, and returned to her journal. Hopefully her mother wouldn't push her to take up the sword ever again.
