But I don't want to fight! - SOLO
                why ismene forgoes warrior training

"Mom..." Ismene whined as she closed her journal and looked up at her mother who was in the doorway of her room with a sword in her hand. Ismene knew what her mother wanted even before her mother even spoke up. They had the same conversation at least once a week, and Ismene always dreaded it. She had been lucky to be able to avoid her mother so far that week, but she knew that sooner or later her mother would find her.

"Ismene dear, how are you going to protect yourself if you don't want to practice? You have your nose in books to often, it's not enough to read about fighting you actually have to do it. Now come on and take the sword and come to the back yard with me and practice." her mother said sternly as she held the sword out towards Ismene. It was evident that her mother wasn't in a good mood, and Ismene knew that she was about to make it even worse. She shook her head at her mother. She didn't like to fight with her mother, not physically or verbally, but she just wished that her mother understood that fighting wasn't for her.

Taking a deep breath Ismene decided that she would try something she never had before. Sometimes she took the weapon and did as her mother wished, but most of the time she just told her no and went back to her books. Maybe if she reasoned with her mother than Ildiko would see that Ismene wasn't going to change her mind and pick up a sword, or any weapon, any time soon. "Mom I don't want to fight. Sure I love to study battles and learn about all the different kinds of weapons, but I don't want to ever have to use that knowledge on a battle field." Ismene pleaded. "I wish you would stop trying to press your old life on me. I don't want it. I want to be more like dad..." she said as she felt the tears forming in her eyes. Ismene closed her eyes to try to prevent them from falling. She hated disappointing her mother but at the end of the day this was her life not her mothers. She couldn't stand seeing her own blood, why did her mother think she would be okay spilling the blood of others?

After a few minutes, when Ismene felt she had control over her emotions, she opened her eyes too an empty doorway. Her mother had left, and taken the sword with her. Although she didn't see if Ismene knew that her mother was disappointed. All she had ever wanted was a daughter to be a warrior like her, and she got Ismene who had no desire to ever be a warrior. Ismene had a feeling that this was the reason why her parents fought, and by saying she wanted to be like her father that she just made things even worse for the pair. Her parents tried to keep the fighting from her but she heard them fighting, she wasn't stupid, and it was normally about her. Her mother would say she regretted being with someone who wasn't a warrior and insisted that he was the reason for Ismene's lack of wanting to be one. No matter how many times she told her mother she wasn't cut out of the whole warrior lifestyle Ildiko insisted that was because Ismene wasn't giving it a chance.

With a sigh Ismene shook her head, shaking the foul mood left by her mother as she did, and returned to her journal. Hopefully her mother wouldn't push her to take up the sword ever again.

Knowldge is Power - Avani & Ismene

Finally Ismene has made a friend, and one that likes to read as much as she does!
Even though Ismene and Avani like to read about different things that doesn't mean
that Ismene isn't extremly excited to have someone to read with her. Avani left and
said that she would come back from time to time to read with Ismene. Who would
have thought that all this time she should have been looking towards farmers for
friends, Ismene always thought they didn't like to learn new things, but Avani has
proven her wrong! Maybe Avani's father and her father could become friends, he
needs them just as much as Ismene does!

a new friend? - Ismene taming adventure

Ismene tried to catch herself a Uruu to train and tame herself, however she failed
miserably. She was caught by the farmer that owned all the Uruu and chased off
by the farmer. She has decided that she will go back and try again, but not before
learning more about both the Uruu and what times the Farmer was out and about
so that she doesn't get caught again. She just wants her mother to be proud of her
and hopes that by catching, taming and training her very own pet her mother will
be a little proud of her. Plus she just wants a friend.

round two - Ismene taming adventure

For the second time Ismene failed at catching a Uruu, and she seemed
to be less successful this time than she was the time before. She just
didn't get it, she did the research and the farmer should have been at
lunch like he was every day at that time. Ismene realized that although
she didn't want to go out into the wild she would most likely be at least
a little more successful at catching a Uruu. As long as she didn't go too
deep into the forest she would be fine, plus it wasn't like Uruu were
dangerous. Yes, she would go to the forest next time. No more playing
        with the farmer.

a different approach - Ismene taming adventure

Doing it the way that she should have from the start and not trying to steal one
Ismene was finally able to catch herself a a Uruu! She got the egg and raised
her very own Uruu to love her. She named it Fluff and although it is tame and
listens to her sometimes it isn't house broken and tends to make a mess in the
house when left alone for a while. Her father has forbidden Ismene to bring her
companion into the store since Fluff likes to gnaw on the books. Even if Fluff
isn't perfect she still loves her first pet.

                Gaining knowledge - SOLO
                lessons with her father

Ismene had read just about everything book she had ever been able to get a hold of, and although that meant she had a lot of knowledge about different things that didn't mean that she could write her own book like she really wanted to. She had nothing new to share with the world, if she were to write a book at that very moment it would just be a repeat of the information that she had previously read. Sighing Ismene sat bored at the table at the front of the book store. How was she going to learn new things sitting at the desk of her father's store? Sure she had learned a few new things about Uruu when she went to find Fluff, but most of what she learned was either common knowledge or something she read from a book. Plus she had failed at really training Fluff at the end so it wasn't like she could write about that.

As she sulked at the front desk her father walked down from their house and into the shop. At noticing that his daughter was unhappy he walked over and put a hand on her shoulder. "My love what is wrong?" he asked, his voice full of love as he petted her hair. Ismene sighed, smiled and looked up at him. "I love working here at the shop, and one day I want to own it, but before that I want to write books to help people, but how do I do that when I'm just stuck here around the knowledge of other people." she complained. She was aware that she was acting like a little kid with her whining, but she wasn't sure what she should be acting like. Her father smiled. "How will you teach what you don't know? You are right in thinking that to learn things you will have to leave home, but you have not yet learned everything that this store and I can teach you. Only after you've learned these things can you go out on your own adventure. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up Ismene." and with that Ismene rolled her eyes. That was where her father was wrong, she had already learned everything she could from the books in the store. She had read everything there about war and taming, and since meeting Avani she had started reading about farming even if it wasn't all that exciting to her. Realizing that he father wasn't going to just let her leave home anytime soon, and that she wasn't ready to leave her family, Ismene smiled at her father. "Don't worry. I know that I'm to young to leave just yet. However I can't wait, being this age is boring." she said, trying to not wine again.

Sophocles dismissed her from the front desk, insisting that it was getting close to her bedtime and that she had to tidy up the store before heading off to bed. Ismene nodded and started to do the work that was all to familiar to her. If all she ever wanted to do was to own the book shop she knew how to do that, her father had taught her about ordering new books and how to shelve them. Hell, she even knew how to check the books to see how much money they were making from the shop. But that was only half of what she wanted to do with the life. While she wasn't a warrior like her mother, Ismene did want to see the world and see war so that she could write about it and some day be famous for her books. Done with her chore Ismene kissed her father good night and rushed up to her room to feed Fluff and to write in her journal the new book ideas she had came up with during the day.
                      ----

The next moring when Ismene woke up she found four books on her desk that she had never seen before. Curious she jumped out of bed to go check on them. At picking them up she noticed that the authors name was the same as her fathers. Ismene's eyes widened. She always thought that her dad was just the owner of a book shop, nothing more. It seemed that he was right, there was much more that he had to teach her.

More than meets the eye - SOLO
lessons with her father - learning/practicing the profession

Ever since her father gave her the books that he himself had written she started to see her father in a new light. She read all four as quickly as possible, and read them over again two more times before going to her father to talk about them. The two of them sat in his study and talked about different points of writing every day for at least two hours. During these lessons she learned how her parents had met. Her father's greatest book was the one that he wrote while studying her mother fighting dragons. It was a great story, and in a way she began to understand for the first time why her parents had married. They really did love each other, and weren't as different as Ismene had once thought. It was a nice love story, while her mother slayed dragon after dragon her father wrote about her many adventures and the different strategies that she used to slay them. As she listened to her father talk about her mother she smiled. Hopefully one day she would feel that way about someone.

Although she enjoyed learned about their parents and their love, that wasn't the point of their lessons. After the tale was done the real work started. Her father told her different kind of writing strategies, and ways to get your point across so that people would actually listen to what you said and not think that you were being arrogant or annoying. She wrote things over and over again, in the beginning her father would just make her start over but as time passed he just made small edits to her writing. Although she wanted to write about battles like her father did, she could only write about what she knew so she wrote about catching animals.

After a month she brought the first copy of her small book about catching Uruu to her father. She had been working on it in her free time, and she finally thought that it was time for her father to look it over. She hadn't caught another Uruu since Fluffy, but she had gone out and studied different ones a good number of times. She was pretty sure that although she wasn't the master of Uruu, but she was pretty close especially for the short amount of time she had been studying them. She knew their diet and most of their main habits as well as different things that they liked. Handing her father the pages she put her hands behind her back and smiled up at him.

"I've been working on this in my spare time. I know that it won't get published or anything, but I wanted to know what you think. It isn't that long so you should be able to read it in your free time." she said with a nod of her head. She knew that her father read fast so it wouldn't take him all that long, but he was also a busy man so it might take longer than she would hope. Her father patted on her head and told her that he would start reading it tonight. With a smile Ismene ran out of his office and to her room to play with Uruu. This was the first step she took to be a real scholar. She hoped he liked it.

Ismene & Sam - Back to Serenia

Ismene ran into a Khehora for the first time. He was stumbling around, she
found that very odd but he said he would help her catch a Vlidean. She was
excited, only she lost him at one point. She wasn't able to catch one to much
to her dismay, nor was she able to find out more about Samael. Maybe they
        will meet again.

                Who are you? - SOLO
a new mentor - meeting her profession master

"Happy Birthday Ismene! Now blow out your candles and make a wish, hurry we have somewhere to be." her father said with a smile. Ismene laughed before blowing out the candles on her cake. It was her fifteenth year of living, which her father always told would be a big one. She had been counting down to this moment ever since he told her at the age of ten how special it would be. Was it a book she had never read, perhaps a very old one, or would it be a trip? Where they going to go somewhere special?

"Ah but first I have a gift for you." her mother said. Ismene's relationship with Ildiko recently was getting better, they understood each other finally. "Now, I know that you aren't going to go to battle, but I am giving you this not only for protection but also because it was given to me when I was your age. Please take care of it." and with that Ildiko handed Ismene a small dagger, it was nicely decorated and obviously old.

Ismene smiled and embraced her mother. "Thank you other, I will treasure it and keep it safe." it was a good gift, and she was pleased that her mother trusted her enough to give it to her. It showed how much their relationship had improved. The three of them ate cake and enjoyed themselves until dusk when Ismene's father decided it was time.

The two of them left the house and headed towards the middle of the city. Although Ismene's mind was racing she couldn't figure out where they were going. To a fancy shop? To a bigger book store? Where was her father taking her. She was completely surprised when her father stopped at a door to a home and knocked. It was a plain home, nothing special about it. Maybe her father was running and errand before he showed her what her surprise was? Soon the door opened, a man a little bit younger than her father was standing there.

"It's about time you got here Sophocles, I was wondering if you backed out. And this must be Ismene. Hello, happy birthday!" the man said before pulling her into a hug. Okay, now she was really confused. "Thank you, but I don't believe I know you?" she said after a few seconds of the embrace. She didn't want to be rude, but at the same time she wanted to know what was happening. How was this man related to her birthday surprise?

"That is okay, we will be getting to know each other better soon enough. Your father brought me the book you wrote, and I was just amazed. You see I use to be a traveler and now have a few published books myself. My name is Raeoffor, and I am going to be your new mentor." he said. As soon as his name was spoken Ismene's mouth almost dropped. He was very famous, she had read many books written by him! This was the best birthday surprise ever!

For the next few hours Ismene, Raeoffor and Sophocles spoke of what being her mentor really meant. Raeoffor said he had already sent Ismene's first book to see if it could be approved and than put on shelves everywhere. He was going to teach her more about writing, and about adventure writing specifically. And than when he felt she was ready they would even go on an adventure of their own!

When she got home that night Ismene couldn't sleep, all she could think about was seeing a book written by her on shelves everywhere... How wonderful it would be.
