A Meeting

Ogbonna wasn't sure what to make of all of the commotion that was going on in his life. Ever since he had turned fourteen years old, everything had begun to change. His great-grandparents re-entered the village to open arms. Rastian became a Healer. Natsu was going to marry Viveka, as soon as he came back from Tinerr where he was supposedly tinkering away with something. Everyone was busy, everyone was fussed... But where was he in all of this?

Doing nothing, pretty much.

It was a windy day when Oggie thought about going for a walk, just a walk, nothing more. The rocks of Sauti turned to the sands of Tale, before he decided to pause and take a look around. He hadn't brought any water with him, nor had he brought spare food, but did that really matter?

In the distance, just ahead, a man was standing. Ogbonna took a step forward as the man tied up his hair. An odd sort of pattern ensued after this. Ogbonna would take a step towards the man, the man would move to do something. Gradually, the Prentice reached his target and tugged his sleeve.

"You have amazing gauntlets!" He exclaimed. "Want to spar? I'm training!"

The man smiled and gently ruffled Ogbonna's hair.
"Of course, but only if you'll help me run a few errands first." He said. "Do you know how to get to Yera from here?"

"Yes, sir!" Ogbonna replied. "Follow me, my uncle showed me everything about everywhere!"

And so, Ogbonna and the man set off for Yera, without a care to their names.

Appearances

Ogbonna didn't care much for the differences in others, people were people, weren't they? From different lands, same sort of hands, what good came from causing a fuss where there was none to be made? The sun shined upon everyone, as well as the moon, no matter where you were from. Thoughts of anger and racial disputes were useless once you really thought about it.

He lay upon his back, his arms and legs sprawled outwards, and his eyes tilted towards the fire. Mild entertainment lingered within them, just as the flames flickered and danced. Pop, crackle, whiz, pop! Soft, subtle, comforting noises, a traveler's lullaby while he meandered the desert with his crew. The day had been a flutter of excitement, all culminating to this point of satisfaction and rest. Steadily, aqua orbs hovered, wavered, and gently closed like the petals of a lotus. Time to sleep, time to dream, time to review what the previous hours of joy had brought to weary mind settling down for the night.

Colors of red, green, gauntlets, and a laugh he wouldn't soon forget. The man he had met in the middle of Tale the morning he left his home in Mez. He had quite a striking smile, one that Oggie wanted to learn to emulate, and a gorgeous set of gauntlets that he envied even more. His grandfather's were old, but beautiful in their age, he hoped that one day he could compare them to the ones that this man wore.

Armaroq, change is not my obstacle, was what was introduced. A pleasant name, one that rolled off the tongue, with a little humor as well. Arm-a-rock, Arm-a-rock, such simple sounds to recall! He could remember this name whenever he needed to train and no one was around to do so. He could count on this name when he needed help or a friend. Yes, this man was friendly and strong, admirable and kind. He was someone he could look up to, someone he could make proud.

Hues of black, brown, a precious sword, and hands that reminded him of his mother. She was Armaroq's partner, a motherly, cheery girl who introduced herself quite promptly. Her hair was as long as the ground, further than her legs, and dyed the color of darkness. He was enamored by the way it moved when she ran, snaring little creatures for dinner, and how her eyes glistened with laughter around the campfire. She was from the Wind tribe, despite her odd coloring, a thought that pleased Ogbonna very much. Someone so wonderful came from his tribe, it was a glimmer of hope for the future, so to speak.

Kreeya, giver of hope and bearer of bravery, a perfect fit for such a brazen swordswoman. It clicked along his tongue as he spoke it, repeating it again and again as he had done with Armaroq's. Kree-ya, Kree-ya, it was almost whimsical! Was her name from a song? If not, his uncle could write her one and then everyone could sing her name! The thought of running to ask his uncle to write a song for a woman was comical in of itself, though, as his uncle only wrote songs about Viveka and why he was mad about something. It would be too silly to ask Natsu to write a song about Kreeya, the prettiest swordswoman ever. He would think Ogbonna had a crush on her! That wouldn't be good at all!

Exotic, green, apparent sister of Yaholo. She was just as pretty as Kreeya, wasn't she? An older Prentice, an Alkidike, she was so interesting to look at! Her hair was dreaded and done up with a teal headband, one that Ogbonna wished he could borrow for his own rat's nest hair. Aside from her hair, her makings were equally as riveting, they curved so gracefully across her arms and legs like squiggles of color moving through grass or sand. He found his own analogies humoring, especially when they began to sound like nonsense as he drifted off to sleep.

Tahigwa, at peace, a simple name in contrast to the others before it. It was also funny, seeing as the girl it belonged to was almost as fidgety as he was! Where was she going so quickly? What was she squealing about? Why was she so excited? Everything was so new to her, so shiny, so special! She was just like him when he was little, when he had first ventured out to Tale with his mother! All the new sights and sounds, the terrain, the heat... There was so much to fuss about, no wonder she was in such a hurry to learn about it all! He hoped she would slow down, surprisingly, because he didn't want her to discover everything before he did! They would discover them together, if time permitting!

Little hands curled around the covers he had been given while the fire's lullaby continued to play. The steady rhythm brought about thoughts of drums, wind, and community. Where would they be heading tomorrow, he and his new friends? Would they travel towards Zena, or settle in Sauti? Would they wander aimlessly like they had done today? It didn't matter to him what they did, as long as they did something. Laying about was boring, he had left Mez to get away from that sort of life, he didn't want to go back any time soon!

He knew his mother and father were probably worried, maybe even Natsu or Rastian, but he would pop in when he felt he was ready. They would probably come looking for him after a while or send a search party out if they felt it was needed, something that made Ogbonna feel slightly guilty. But, no, It was his turn for adventure, his time to shine, and nothing was going to stop him. He would grow up, he would get stronger, and he would find his way without the help of others. Sure, he was young, yes, he was still small, but since when did that stop him before? And one day soon, the boy with the super gauntlets would make his earth shaking appearance in the quiet village of Mez, and his name would be no other than Ogbonna.

Where's Rastian?

"I'm home!" Ogbonna screamed as he burst through the door to his home. He had been gone for a few weeks and expected his parents to come running to scold him, as always, but to his shock, and slight relief, no one appeared to be home. He dropped his things on the floor by the door, shuffled forward, and ducked behind a table. There, he army crawled across the floor, peered around a wall, and leaped into the next room.

"Uncle Razzie, what'cha..." He paused mid-yell to find his uncle's work room in shambles. Vials littered the floor, satchels were hung in the wrong spaces, and various other objects were left in the oddest positions and within the oddest storage spaces. Ogbonna moved to the middle of the room, perplexed as to why his uncle would leave his favorite space in such a terrible disarray, and bent down to pick a few of the items up. Some of them were broken, almost as if someone had stepped on them... In fact... The young Prentice followed the trail of broken items, which lead him all the way back to the front door, where a single shard of glass lay on the doorstep. He checked his feet, to ensure that he hadn't stepped on any more shards, and gazed blankly out the front door.

This... This was weird. His uncle never did stuff like this, he was crazy good at keeping himself neat and organized. What sort of thing would make Rastian do this? He went back into the room and followed the path a few times, until, at last, something dawned on him. Rastian had been kidnapped!

Of course! It all made sense, his uncle had been taken by bad men who wanted to hurt him and steal all his shinies, that was the only way Rastian would ever leave his stuff all smashed up like this! A fire went off inside of Ogbonna's heart and his eyes narrowed. No one takes his uncle and gets away with it! His uncle must have fought really hard if he had broken so much, he was trying to get away! So cruel, these mysterious men, he would find them and beat them up for this!

He raced towards where his grandfather kept his prized gauntlets and snatched them away from their case. His father always said never to play with them unless he had permission, but this wasn't play time, this was a rescue mission! He fastened them extra tight against his hands, took a glance in the mirror, and nodded. He was ready for battle! Then, as quickly as he had come in, he raced out, and straight back into Rastian's work room. He needed to see if there was a note, maybe a ransom note, that the kidnappers left. Where had they taken his uncle? Where? WHERE?

"A note!" He squeaked, snatching what looked like a note from Rastian's desk. It was heavily smudged, poorly written, but some words were still easy for him to make out.

"Nat-- going Jauhar -- f-nd Yah-l- d-n'- worry I'- fi-e
Rastian"

Suspicious! Going to Jauhar? Worry? Those dastardly kidnappers had stolen his uncle and taken him all the way to Jauhar! They would pay dearly for this crime against his family! Ogbonna clenched his fists, growled, and went to grab his things.

"Don't worry, uncle Razzie!" He cried, lunging out the door again. "Ogbonna's coming to save you!"

Never Unprepared

Jauhar, the place where his uncle was currently being held captive, according to a note he left upon his work desk at home. A beautiful rain forest filled with flora and fauna that often glowed in the darkness, casting illusions each and every place you happened to take a half-glance at. From every corner there could or could not be an attacker waiting to strike you down, be it an animal, be it a person, you could never be too comfortable in your skin when you were surrounded by many unseen dangers in this place. Still, it appeared tranquil, the lulling streams, the glowing plants, the chirps of the animals. Any amount of naivety could bring you down and trap you within a beast's snare. He couldn't take chances, he wouldn't, for his safety, and for the safety of his uncle in distress.

He pressed through bushes, steered clear of paths, and swung from trees, all while keeping an eye out for any sign from his uncle that he may be nearby. It could be as small as a vial, as large as his cloak, or as horrific as his body stretched out upon the ground. He shuddered to think about the worst case scenario, that his uncle was dead, murdered at the hands of his kidnappers. But never did he pause, not for a second. Whatever he found was whatever he found, fate worked in ways that he would never understand, and if fate took his uncle now, so be it. He had lived a wonderful life so far, he was sure, and the world never took someone without a reason. However, he prayed to the very core of his soul that his uncle wasn't dead, and simply being kept in a cell of some sort, waiting to be freed. Ogbonna would swoop in and rescue him, before anything more can be done to harm his dear uncle, Rastian.

While he wandered the forest floor, scavenging desperately for clues, he couldn't help but feel as though he was being watched. From then forward, he would scan his surroundings carefully before he bent down to brush away leaves and dirt from the ground. He would be prepared for his attacker, whatever it was, and they would have no idea that he was as prepared as he was. Every crack in a stem, every flutter of a wing, it was all being checked on and listened to. Nothing would get past this rescuer on a mission, nothing, no if's, and's, or but's about it. They wouldn't know what hit them.

But as he ventured further and further from the paths, Ogbonna began to hear voices shortly beyond the trees. They sounded scared, like they were being attacked. Slowly he crept around the bushes, keeping his eyes and ears open for his uncle, his attacker, and the source of this new noise he kept hearing. Around the bend, just a moment or so, sat an Alkidike, not much younger than he was. She was curled up in a defensive position as she was being surrounded by what looked to be large, moving crystals, all spewing a sticky, white substance around them. Without a sound, Ogbonna approached, crouching beside one of the large crystals. However, as he did, he found that whatever it was had turned to look at him, and it obviously didn't like him. It lunged towards him, to which Oggie ducked away, only to be pursued. What was this thing?!

"Are these supposed to be bugs?!" He shrieked, slamming his fist down upon one of them. To his shock, the bug simply shattered open under his punches, effectively killing it. He paused just a moment, before quickly moving to smash the remaining bugs to bits as well. But, the more that he killed, the more that seemed to come towards him. Suddenly, it dawned on him, the things that were watching him from before were these weird crystal bugs! They were after him as well as this poor girl, who was now staring at him like he was crazy! He gave her a smile, smashed a few more of the bugs, and pointed to the path which could be seen from behind a bush.

"Go, get out of here!" He commanded. "Your home is on one of those paths, right? Then go! Don't be silly and sit still when you are in danger like this!"

He watched her carefully as she darted towards the path, screaming for her elders as she did, something that made him smile. Good, she was sending help, because, damn it, HE NEEDED IT! He punched at the bugs as fast as he could, killing some and injuring others, before more healthy ones leaped into the open to unleash an attack of their own. A whole swarm would be defeated and another would come in, and another for that one, and another for that one, until bug bodies both dead, injured, and alive were surrounding him from either side, forward, and backward. He was quickly running out of safe room to attack, counter, defend, dodge, and, generally, move about without fear of slipping. Soon, he would be cornered, and that would likely be the last thing he would remember.

"Aaaaaaah!" He screamed as he lost his footing because of yet another bug from the current swarm he was fighting. He growled, rubbed his leg, and let out a piercing cry as one of the bugs came close to landing on his head. But, just as he was sure he was about to meet his end, an arrow came through and knocked the bug aside. Suddenly, he was scooped up, and carted through the trees. He gazed up, his eyes growing hazy, and grinned. Was that Yaholo...?

----

When he woke up, he was laying in a bed in a hut. It was close to nighttime, he could tell by how the sun was cascading through the window and across the room. Curious, he swiveled his legs out from the bed and jumped out, only to have his arm caught by a someone who was sleeping close by.

"Who's there?!" He cried, flailing his arms, before pausing to look at just who had grabbed him. His uncle! "RASTIAN! You're not kidnapped!"

He wrapped his arms around his uncle's sweaty, feverish form, and observed that he had gone back to sleep. To this, he chuckled and rolled his eyes.

"Oh, uncle, you're so silly!" He scolded. "First you leave the house in a bad way, then you get sick, and now you can't even stay awake to talk to me! You should learn how to be prepared for everything, just like me! That way there won't be any surprises, just exciting visits!"
