And the story comes to a close...As the youths of SA filed into headquarters, bruised and beaten or just plain exhausted after a long struggle with their "guests" from outer space, they were greeted by the Founders and a number of unfamiliar alien faces in the background. One of the aliens was so large, his shadow loomed over everyone nearby, even the Captain. A smaller figure stood next to him, eyes gleaming quiety in the shadow.
Once all the teams of students were accounted for and present, the Captain stepped forward and there was an immediate hush as he beamed brilliantly, in the way a proud father would his flock of (rather battered) children.
"The team and I would like to congratulate and praise all of you for your bravery today. Because of your quick response and diplomacy, we were able to reach the commanding officer and leaders of this new alien group that have landed on our premises with minimal... uh, casualties."
Several kids in front sporting very obviously large bruises and welts groaned loudly.
The Captain hurriedly cleared his throat. "So um, good job. Anyway, after explaining that their students from Nova Academy have not come to harm and have been studying at our academy, we've come to some... ah, agreements. Some of our interstellar friends here would like to stay, while the others will go back to where they came from. In return for extending our hospitality while they prep, they will help with repairs to the campus while contributing to your study of extraterrestrial life outside of earth. It's a win-win situation for all of us, isn't it?"
The Captain smiled warmly around the room. Next to him, Binary's eyebrows were furrowed into a deep crease, clearly disagreeing with his sunny partner.
"Let this be a stern warning to all of you," he cut in with clipped tones. "This situation is to be kept strictly under wraps. Speak of this to no one. Breathe a single word and our situation will become most... inconvenient."
Phoenix rolled her eyes. Really, that was totally unnecessary (and somewhat overdramatic) when these kids were hardly the kind to blabber about secrets; how could they, when they themselves were a secret. She continued where Binary left off, steamrolling over his curtness with her own brand of optimism.
"We'd also like to take this opportunity to introduce two of Nova Academy's leaders who will be joining the teaching staff," she chipped in. "They have been most generous in volunteering to stay behind and mentor us on the various subjects you could never hope to learn from even the best of earthlings. Please welcome, Bomir and Sloth."
Phoenix scooted aside as the large beastly alien took a slow heavy step forward, revealing sandy-tan colored fur and a set of wicked looking horns. He (it?) blinked slowly with heavy eyelids, and swept his gaze across the room once, so slowly it was almost painful to watch. A few kids who'd had the poor luck of confronting it (him?) during the battle flinched, half expecting him to charge at them with the unnatural speed he displayed earlier for one so achingly slow.
But he never spoke. Instead, he simply sidestepped, allowing a smaller alien to be better seen when not in his shadow. This one was of more human proportions, with dark, glowing skin and luminous purple eyes. His whitish-gray dreads were tied back neatly with a few stray strands framing a thin face, and a set of impressive looking horns protruded from the sides of his head. He stared down imperiously for a moment at the enraptured audience before him, and then he spoke, quiet and dignified.
"Greetings, earthlings of Sidekick Academy. I am Bomir, and next to me is Sloth. Your mentors have been most gracious in allowing some of us to stay here and on behalf of my crew, we thank you."
He gave a slight bow, and there was some dispersed polite clapping from his audience. "As promised," he continued, "we will do what we can to repair the damage that has been done to your land, as well as impart what knowledge we possess to you as we deem fit. In exchange, we hope to be treated as equals as we learn your ways."
The tiniest of an exchange happened right then, but you'd never have caught it if you weren't watching Binary like a hawk.
The brief hardness in Bomir's eyes melted just as quickly as it came, and his lips quirked upward in what seemed to be an attempt to smile.
"Thank you," he concluded, and stepped back into line. Another round of polite applause went around the room.
"That's all for tonight then," the Captain announced brightly with a loud clap as students began to shuffle out the room impatiently, wanting nothing more than to rest their weary bones. "Please go back to your rooms for a well-deserved rest. We have a long day of reconstructing and patching up ahead of us tomorrow!"
Loud noises of protest could be heard all the way after the exit of the control room.
