REVIVAL ( R E ) A R R I V A L Kale had left home after he had left Switch his usual note whenever he felt that strange inkling that he was going to go somewhere longer than just 'a few minutes'. The note was hastily written and then as he got the door the whole thing went blank for him. He remembered nothing that he did or has been done as he wandered the streets. It was one of those things that while he and Switch didn't like it ... They accepted it because there was no other choice for them. The didn't want to risk what would happen if he made himself stay put at home and no matter how hard he tried to stay home ... he always left in spite of anything he did.
The dark man would always dimly, very dimly recall hunger and then suddenly he wasn't hungry anymore.
It was a good thing, maybe, possibly.
Usually when he came to he was at the door that leads into the home he made with Switch but today he came to sitting on a bench. His amethyst eyes blinked in the winter sunlight as he was suddenly too bright for him and his hands ruffled up his once neatened hair. It baffled the young man because his hair was always much neater when he awoke and it felt ... wrong and uncomfortable and always needed to be fixed right away as soon as he was aware of it.
As he looked around a flash of bone white caught his attention and his eyes flicked down toward only to see a set of Shark Jaws sitting there. Has this always been here? What was it doing there? Why was it there? It certainly belonged to someone, it had to! He didn't touch the item and just gazed around to see if there was anyone else near the park bench he was apparently seated upon and noted it was just him and the Jaws. He gazed back down at it and stared for a long moment. They certainly had a certain charm to them...
There was a hesitation in him, a warning, but still he ignored it. Switch wasn't there to advise him one way or the other and without her guidance he had to act on his own instincts and his current instinct, despite the hesitation, was to reach out and touch it. Once his dark fingertips touched the item there was a shock going up his arm and he withdrew his hand and shook it.
MINE.
He glanced around a bit and then stared down at his hands to see if the shock left a singe mark on his fingertips and found there were none. That was a little strange. He reached out and touched the Jaws again and found that there was no shock this time, emboldened by this he picked the object up and looked it over. It'd look rather nice on the coffee table at home, wouldn't it? Maybe Switch would like it; it seemed like something Kay would like too.
..Tek..Tek was a baby. Babies were known to have no taste in decoration.
The Jaws were 'small' sized and must have come from a small shark or so Kale assumed as he stood and cradled the object in his arms. Maybe hanging it on a wall would be better. He hummed lightly and made his way home with a bit of a smile upon his lips. He was going home to Kay, Switch and ...Tek. Can't forget Tek. The dark man let out a deep sigh and slowed down just a little...

JOURNAL ENTRY K A L E ' S T H O U G H T S Dear Journal,
Switch tossed a blank journal at me and told me to write in it. Something about payback ... Not like I made her sign up for that online journal -- okay I take it back. I totally made her do it; I also make her write in the offline one when she gets lazy about it ... Does that make me a bad person to make sure she doesn't suddenly wake up in the night screaming and can't stop because she finally snapped? I guess this sort of thing could help me, too...
She has a lot on her plate and I want to help so badly, more than I already do just by being there but she won't let me at the shop, though that was for a specific reason: so I wouldn't end up walking away with an item that'd turn into a child.
Funny thing is? I 'went away' like I usually do...When I 'woke up', I wasn't at home like I usually was but instead I was sitting on a park bench next to a set of Shark Jaws. They looked neat though they seemed kinda weird and creepy. Some stuff happened and when I got home with them...
Oh boy things just went down hill and the Jaws had a kid pop out of them. This makes me a little uneasy because I am sure I followed her command to the letter, commands I can never bring myself to break no matter if I wanted to try or not. I love her too much to disobey her like that and I am sure I didn't go there while I 'went away'. I hope I didn't.
I didn't. I swear...
Does that mean someone or something at the shop has targeted me? Just to unnerve her? If they did...I'll... I don't know what I'll do but...
Quint isn't that bad of a kid though, not like Tek. At least he likes me or seems to. He bit Kay though, not sure we can have that. I had to intervene before Quinn could bite Kay's arm off or something. Switch doesn't handle that sorta thing well; I can't have that much chaos in the household. Our home should be a place where Switch can relax.
I wonder if I can get that through to him or to anyone really but I doubt they'd really listen to me. Funny how they are all boys but the most 'rambunctious' one from our lot is Kay.
Quinn seems to have the soul of an old man or something. Gruff and abrasive on the outside but perhaps hiding a softer underbelly? He hasn't really shown it to anyone. Thus far he's handling the sleeping arrangements pretty well despite being in close quarters with Kay (which set off his biting in the first place). I guess he can quell his instincts if he really, really has to but it's hard on him, I can tell. Maybe sometime soon Switch and I can at least buy the boys separate beds before something unfortunate happens...
Is it bad that Quinn seemed to like the taste of Kay's blood...?

TEACH ME SOMETHING NEW L E A R N I N G A G A M E ! It was one of those moments were Quinn didn't need to look up from the magazine he was gazing at to know that he wasn't alone. Anytime when he did look up toward the offending individual the dark man had ducked behind the couch, disappeared into the nearby hallway, or ducked into the kitchen as if he wasn't there in the first place. For whatever reason the man was being strange and awkward about talking to him today and the shark toothed boy was bordering upon being annoyed but also amused at the great length his Guardian was going about this whole charade to begin with.
A small smirk appeared on the boy's lips though his eyebrow twitched a bit. After the dark man loomed over him from behind the couch Quinn finally spoke up, "What d'you want?" he asked gruffly.
Kale startled guiltily and leaned away, "I...I was just wondering what you were doing," the dark skinned man murmured bashfully, for whatever reason the man felt shy around the boy and seemed to intimidate him a little. He trailed his fingertips over the top of the couch as Quinn tilted his head back to stare at his Guardian with those strange eyes.
"Reading," he replied as if the answer should have been very clear and obvious to just about anyone.
The dark man frowned briefly as his fingertips wiggled against the fabric of the couch before he moved to take a step back, "O..Oh you already know how to read and write?" There was a hint of disappointment hitched into his voice. He had been hoping to maybe foster a bond between them by teaching the child something.
Quinn noted the tone but said nothing about it as he nodded, "Yeah and I know my numbers, too, Pops," he added bluntly not meaning to sound cruel or even to add salt to the wound. The boy didn't believe in mincing word or dancing around the topic at hand. It was better that he knew now instead of trying to make the boy repeat things over and over again.
"R..Right. Sorry I bothered you," Kale murmured as his posture slumped, this was slightly more awkward and hurtful than he imagined it would be. He turned to wander off toward the kitchen.
The shark boy watched and sighed. For whatever reason he felt really, really bad and he couldn't bring himself to let his Guardian go on like that. He closed his magazine, "Pops! Come back here. Teach me a card game or somethin'."
Kale almost walked into a wall next to the doorframe as he turned to address Quinn he was so surprised, "W..what?!" Hope leaked into his voice as he pressed his hands against the portion of wall he almost walked into. Quinn let out an amused snort as he put the magazine on the living room table and stood, "I said teach me a card game," he repeated as he moved to help his Guardian find the door and nudge him through it. As long as he initiated contact he didn't mind that his personal bubble was being popped plus it was his guardian who belonged to him and thus was considered a part of him.
Quietly the dark man gleed and nodded as he was nudged in to the kitchen. Luckily there was a set of cards in the 'catchall' drawer where he gleefully went to get them. Actually there were a couple of different sets and he snagged them both and moved to the table where Quinn had seated himself. Kale ran his hands through his dark messy hair before he grinned, "I'll get us some drinks and make popcorn!" he was so easy to make happy and Quinn was fairly thankful for that.
Quinn simply nodded and even got up to help a little by getting out the bowl for the popcorn and the glasses ready for the drinks before he settled down and got the cards out of the protective covers and began to look them over while Kale hummed cheerfully and prepared the popcorn and drinks. Once it was all set and done Kale took the deck of cards and began to go over some the rules for the first game they would be playing which was Old Maid.
The afternoon was filled with other card games as well such as 'Crazy Eights', 'War' and 'Go Fish'.
Afterwards the two prepared dinner for the household before the others came home.

JOURNAL ENTRY K A L E ' S T H O U G H T S Dear Journal,
He let me teach him some card games. I don't know if he realizes how much that means to me. Switch probably knows by now because I gushed at her about it all night, might have bored her a little or amused her or everything in between. I don't know...I mean Kay and Tek are ... ours in a way but it's a little different with Quinn. Tek doesn't seem that fond of me at all - nothing Switch says changes that - and Kay...Well Kay is Kay. Kay likes me and I like Kay but I never really felt the need to guide or teach him anything. Maybe that's because he could turn to Switch? I don't know. I am here for all the boys if they need me...
It just meant something different because it was Quinn, maybe because he's attached to me? I don't know how to explain it. I guess maybe it might also be because he gives off such a gruff and untrusting exterior? I don't know if something happened before then and now or if he even remembers it would he tell me if he did? It just doesn't seem like this is the 'first time' for him somehow. Not a bad thing but it makes me wonder what happened and why.
I'm still worried about how I came about his item in the first place. It bothers me. Whatever happens when I 'go away' must be the cause of it. It is isn't it? It drives me crazy and I fret but I don't tell Switch because I don't want her to worry. She just...She was so upset when I brought Quinn home. I don't like it when she's upset even if she isn't upset at me. I just want her to smile all the time and not have to worry about things. Is that bad?
I want to make things better for her. Me not going away anymore would make it better for her maybe at least a little, at least she would have less to worry about and I would have less to worry about. Maybe Tek would like me more? Because I would stop making Switch so worried. Quinn doesn't know about me going away at times just yet. I wonder how he'll handle it, I hope he doesn't follow me...Maybe I should tell him about it just so he isn't caught unprepared...

FISH ARE FRIENDS A N D S O M E T I M E S F O O D Quint and Kale had gone to the pet store simply because the sharp-toothed by wanted to check it out. They didn't just have the so-called normal ranges of pets but they also had quite an exotic selection and for the most part Quint couldn't get himself interested in anything of the fuzzy or scaly kind but once he found where the fish were kept that was where he focused much of his attention going from tank to tank and looking at the varieties. Kale wandered along side of his charge quietly and wore a small smile, at least the shark-boy was seeming to show interest in things other than just glowering and grumping about as fun as those types of 'hobbies' are.
He stared from one tank to the other and then glanced over at Kale curiously, "You sure?"
Kale shrugged a bit, "You're quiet, you seem pretty responsible, and I am sure Switch'll be relieved that you have an interest that doesn't mutilate someone."
Quint snorted as he paused and stared at a tank filled with little orange 'pygmy mermaids'. One swam right up and stared right at him and put her little hands against the glass. He swore she blew heart shaped bubbles at him. He reached down and poked at the tank despite the sign warning him not to and she didn't retreat though her sisters swam and cowered in a corner. "I'll take her." Quint wasn't sure what the bubbles were about but he liked the bravery of the little being in the tank.
Kale nodded and watched Quinn move his gaze to a lion fish nearby and the two seemed to have a staring contest for a brief moment before the Shark-boy announced, "That one and...the three little octopi that are in the tank with him." Quint didn't really want to leave the lionfish alone and he also didn't want to put the mermaid in the tank with the lionfish.
The dark skinned laughed a bit and nodded. He did some odd jobs when everyone wandered off that afforded him to get his 'son' a couple of luxury items which included the proper set up for the fish and mermaid in question, "What're you gonna name 'em?"
Quinn shrugged a bit, "She's going be Marle, the lionfish is going to be Duke, and the octopi are going to be Fritz, Anchor, and Surf."
Kale nodded and got the attention of a worker to get the creatures and a delivery of a tank arranged. They shopped about for a nice roomy little bowl for Marle to hang out in and it was then paid for and then they left after all the arrangements were made.
Quint held onto the bag with Marle with a mild possessiveness as he gazed up at his guardian who held the rest of the fish and bowl set up, "Going to help me set up?" the Shark-boy asked his guardian who responded with a simple nod.
"Sure! If you want me to!" He said in a hopeful tone that said 'please want me to!' no matter what the dark skinned man said verbally.
"Yeah, I wouldn't ask if I didn't want you to," Quint replied with a bit of a raised eyebrow as he took his gaze away and looked straight ahead and walked on. He heard Kale chuckle slightly.
"Yeah well you aren't exactly easy to read, though you're blunt enough," Kale observed to his charge as they neared their home, already the truck with the tank was waiting for them outside, it had left shortly before them.
Quint shrugged a bit and fell silent as he hurried his steps a bit suddenly feeling a bit of excitement for the task at hand. He fidgeted a bit with Marle while Kale signed paperwork and gave some tips and then moved to help his Guardian move everything inside.
Soon the two were quietly setting it up together and making sure it was all inhabitable before the octopi and lionfish were put in their home and Marle was placed within her own glass palace. Quinn stayed in his room and tended to his new pets while Kale wandered off to cook dinner before Switch and everyone else got home. Kale felt pleased to bond with Quint, it was good that the shark-boy was ... gradually melding into the family even if it was a slow process.

BEFORE YOU WORRY... I T H A P P E N S Much like Switch before him Kale wandered up to Quinn and dropped a blank journal upon the boy's lap with a small smile. Unlike with Switch, however, Kale had a different motive in mind for this. He moved to sit next to Quinn without touching the rather ornery gray child that had been plopped into his life with very little warning.
"What's this for?" Quint asked as he picked up the journal that had a series of sharks on the cover with a small tilt of his head.
Kale cleared his throat a bit, "Well, sometimes...I go away for a while and if you ever wanted to talk to me...I won't always be there to talk to if ... you ever wanted to." The dark skinned man said a bit awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his neck. As of yet Quint hadn't come running to Kale about some sort of deep personal trauma or anything of the like but Kale didn't want to leave the boy without some form of an outlet or something to turn to if someone wasn't around to listen. What better than a journal?
Quint furrowed his brow as he pulled the journal open and then glanced up at his Guardian, "You come back right?"
"Yes, always. I come back for Switch, Kay, you, and Tek even though he isn't my biggest fan," Kale laughed a little and sighed, "I love my family too much to not come back."
The boy nodded a bit and stared at the journal a bit more, "You going to read it?"
"Not unless you want me to." Kale answered back as he leaned back a bit with a small smile, "It can be for your eyes only but I hope you don't use it as an excuse to shut yourself off from everyone."
Quint smirked slightly as he closed his journal, "I'll think about it...I...like you guys too..." he said grudgingly with a shift of his shoulders. They accepted him in the family they didn't seem set on changing him and corrected him very little. They also gave him food and even Tek, for some weird reason, had apparently taken a shine to him and in spite of himself Quinn also liked Tek. He was a neat little baby though a bit foul tempered. Much fouler tempered than himself Quinn had noted with a bit of amusement.
Kale laughed a bit and with a bit of trepidation moved to ruffle the boy's hair and to his surprise he didn't even move to snap at him, "We like you, too! Gonna go make lunch, any special request." He withdrew his hand before it became unwelcome. Quinn took a moment to straighten out his hair as he stared over at Kale.
"I want hotdogs," he said simply.
"Comin' right up." Kale stood and tossed a pen at the boy, "in case you wanna start writing while I'm cooking."
Quinn had smirked as he caught the pen and noted that it also was covered in Shark motif. The shark-boy supposed there was no question who this all belonged to and it pleased him as he cracked open the journal and wrote his name upon the inside of the cover with his left hand.

JOURNAL ENTRY Q U I N T ' S T H O U G H T S Dear Journal,
I don't know what I am supposed to write here. Dad says to write my feelings and Kay just shrugged at me and grinned in that annoying way of his and suggested that I write about stuff I did that day or what I am thinking. Helpful...I guess. Maybe I shouldn't write in this at all but then I am sure Dad would open this and see I didn't write a damn thing and make me write SOMETHING in it so...
For some reason I meet people even though I try to be left alone but at least they seem okay. A couple of them managed to catch me when I was feeling friendly or whatever. Wonder if they think I'm like that all the time or if they just thought they got me on a good day (that would be closer to the truth). I wonder if I will even see half of these people again.
Does it really matter if I go out to make friends even if I don't see people again?
I guess I have to see at least one or two of them again...
Dad is all caught up in the whole wanting to spend time with me whenever he's around. I think I understand why and that's because he goes away a lot. Maybe I should follow him but then he doesn't follow me around when I want to be alone...I should respect that...?
I guess maybe one day I'll follow Dad when he shows signs of leaving for a while, whenever that happens...I don't even know what the Hell is up with all that I didn't feel like asking questions about it either.
Anyways Kay's being a twit about something. Bye.
