Quinn returned to the beach, this time on his own. He borrowed a set of swim trunks, a pair of pants, some sunblock, a t-shirt, and of course a towel. He had tucked any unneeded items into a bag he managed to get Kale to find for him and struck out on his own. Once there he felt quite fine and explored a portion of the beach he didn't get to see on the opposite end of where he had been the other day. It seemed to make as much sense as anything else he did plus there was a lot less people this way. No one was swimming at the moment for the water was a touch frigid still but it was warming up.
The water smelt awesome to the Shark-boy so he set up as near to the water as he could get without getting everything wet right away when or if the tide rose to the location he had picked. He'd at least be able to notice the rising of water as it lapped at the beach so he wasn't too worried. He sat on the towel and got out the sunblock and stared at it. Would he sunburn? Could he sunburn?
He had no clue! Better to be safe than sorry. Quinn began to apply it after he stripped down to his swim trunks.

Pilot had decided after three seconds of being there that he didn’t like the beach at all. The sun was too hot, the sand was uncomfortable between his toes and he was wearing only board shorts. That last one had to be the worst part, the only time he wasn’t wearing his overalls was when he was showering and to suddenly find himself out of them in public made him feel, well, naked.
Ophelia seemed to take delight in his dislike of the beach as she put down her towel before stretching out on it with a book. “Standing there looking awkward and hugging yourself is only going to make people stare Pilot. Why don’t you go mingle with some other kids?” She said silently laughing to herself. This’d teach him to track grease stains around the house.
Starting Pilot looked around nervously before scuttling off in a random direction along the beach.

Quinn was mostly left to his own devices and enjoying the scenery for the most part though before long another boy was getting dangerously close and looking ... like he was real uncomfortable about the fact that was even there in the first place. The shark boy could understand being uncomfortable in one's surrounding and his heart even went out to the poor lad in a way but that didn't mean he was going to let him trample all around his personal space which extended toward the outer edges of his towel and a bit of the sand around it just to make a nice little circle. Thus he sat up a bit and cleared his throat, "Hey, watch where you're stepping," he warned.
Not that he'd attack the boy, yet, about being in his vicinity but he didn't really want to have another biting incident with someone else. It was bad enough that he was biting Kay on a regular basis and while he technically didn't give a damn...
..Well he just didn't feel like biting anyone damn it, what did he need to rationalize for?

Pilot hadn’t been paying much attention to where he was going; instead he was mentally running over ways to get Mom to take him home as quick as possible. Because of this he didn’t notice how close he had been stepping near the other boy’s towel. Giving a small ‘Eek!’ and twirling around he looked wide eyed at the other boy. Oh, wow, BIG teeth. “S- Sorry! I wasn’t paying attention.” Pilot said apologetically, eyeing the other boy and trying to figure out if those teeth where only for show. The vibes he got off him and the look in his eyes said they weren’t.

Quinn stared up at the other boy and gave a firm nod and watched him for a long moment. Again he didn't have the heart to be cruel to him in fact he reached into the bag he had brought and dug out a soda he had bought from the store with the money Kale shoved at him before he left. He stood up and edged closer to bright blue eyed figure and offered it over gruffly with a small hopefully friendly smile though his demeanor clearly said for the boy to not read into this, "I'm Quint but you can call me Quinn or whatever. You don't seem comfortable here," he said simply. It wasn't like it was hard to see.

Pilot shifted uncomfortably at the long stare from the other boy, wrapping his arms tightly around his chest as a feeble shield. When the boy offered him a soda he took it with a small smile and a soft thank you. It was rather hot out so a cold drink was nice. Calming down somewhat from the friendly gesture he opened the drink and took a small sip. It was because of this that he didn’t react badly to the other boy’s smile, it was friendly if you squinted, “Nice to meet you Quinn, I’m Pilot, I don’t have any nicknames but you can call me whatever as well. You noticed? I was being rather obvious, It’s my first time at the beach.” He said in a slightly rambley reply. He either clammed up or rambled when he got nervous.

Quinn nodded at the thanks glad that it was appreciated as he turned and got himself a soda after a brief moment of consideration he decided to allow the other very uneasy boy to sit with him, "Not exactly hard to see, Pilot," he said after acquiring the boy's name he intended to use it. He shifted a bit so he took up a portion of the towel so that Pilot would not touch him and pointed at the unused section, "Wanna sit or something? Not like I'll bite you unless you touch me without askin'," that was as much warning as Pilot was going to get. Considering how Quint usually gave warnings it was actually a rather friendly one.
Something about the other boy's unease just made the shark boy just take it easy on Pilot, probably because he knew what it was like to feel that way.

Pilot got the personal space bubble message when Quinn clearly cleared a space for him, not that Pilot was the space invading type. He was half way through sitting down after the invite that the second half of what Quinn had said sunk in, causing him to halt half way down and look at the other boy oddly, “You bite people? Don’t we taste icky with all the chemicals and other stuff that covers our skin and pollutes our blood?”.

He opened his soda and managed to take a drink of it without much worry about his teeth or anything else for that matter. Afterwards he set his drink in the sand and stared over at the other boy and blinked a bit at his words about blood and how it was polluted. He shrugged his shoulders and rested his hands against his own knees comfortable and quite happy that the other boy was keen on not touching him, "It's something that kind of just happens. I don't bite unless you invade my space or touch what's mine without my say so. It's kin'a instinct. I don't like it when people invade my space it is also partly cause of fear. I get scared when some people get so damn close to me," he admitted and shrugged.
Quinn stared at Pilot with pupil-less eyes, "You understand what that's like, right?" Everyone's been scared at least once!

Well the other boy did resemble a shark so it was reasonable to assume he had territorial instincts. It wasn’t the weirdest instinct he’d heard of and he’d heard of quite a few. When Quinn mentioned it being a cause of fear and asked him if he knew what that was like he gave a small shudder remembering the tesla coil incident, they still weren’t 100% sure what about the coil had set him off. “Yeah I get that, big lightning storms freak me out.” He said in reply, sharing that titbit in reply to Quinn’s sharing.

Quinn tilted his head a bit at what Pilot shared and nodded a bit. He reached up and reached his hand and brushed it through his hair and looked thoughtful, "They can be real neat looking but yeah lightning storms can be real scary because you can't really predict what they're gonna do and they're deadly if they hit you," he said simply and shrugged. He reached forward and took up his soda again and sipped at it thoughtfully. He found he didn't mind the other boy's company so much. Probably because he was respectful about his space and because he was calm and it was much appreciated.
"You hungry? I bought a sandwich and some chips, you can have some," as long as he offered he didn't feel the need to hoard or be territorial around the boy since he was non-threatening.

“Exactly! My Mom keeps trying to convince me that they’re pretty and harmless but I know better.” Pilot said in reply nodding, it was nice to know someone else got why lightning storms where scary.
When Quinn mentioned food Pilot’s stomach decided that would be the perfect moment to rumble causing Pilot to duck his head in embarrassment and flush slightly. “Thanks, that’d be nice.” He said in reply since it was no use to claim he wasn’t hungry after that.

"Your mom doesn't have much sense," he said simply with a small shrug toward Pilot. Quinn didn't mean it as an insult but rather a very honest observation of what he knew about the lady's character from how she was currently described. He would gladly amend his thoughts and feelings if shown differently but at the moment she sounded pretty silly-headed.
Quinn actually laughed a bit at Pilot's embarrassment and moved to his bag again and got out a small meal that he had packed. He parted the sandwich he cut into triangle and offered it to the other boy with enough room to remove the risk of touching Quinn. The shark-boy also took a moment to pour himself some chips onto the towel before he put the small bag closer to Pilot to have on his own. Once the meal was evenly divvied Quinn began to enjoy it, "Don't be so damn shy," he said simply with a smirk.

“She often doesn’t but my Uncle says that if wait long enough she does, I don’t get why that would be so.” He said in reply, scrunching up his nose a bit showing his continued confusion with his Uncles words.
Pilot joined in softly with Quinn laughing after a moment, his embarrassment fading, and after waiting for Quinn to finish serving out the chips he slowly started to nibble on his portion. When Quinn told him to stop being so shy he gave a slight start before wringing his hands and saying slightly apologetically, “Sorry, I’m not usually this shy but the beach is a bit out of my usual place of comfort.”.

He shrugged a bit, "Sometimes people take a while to make sense. My Dad doesn't always make sense to me," Quint replied as he reached up and rubbed at his jaw before he continued to eat and enjoy his meal with this new person he found himself with. Arguably there could be a lot of worse people he could sit at the beach with.
Quint smirked a bit as Pilot admitted to his discomfort about being at the beach. He lifted a hand and waved it, "Don't worry about it we all get put out of our comfort zones mine happens to be when people get too close. Just try to think of where you are comfortable at, that might help? At least until your mom takes pity on you and decides it is time to go."
