The first page in Kaleb's journal is written in a hasty hand; his father's. Notes in spidery hand writing had been added, but it appeared that they had been written later than the original entry. The large spidery writing was squeezed together, the writer hadn't had much space to add her commentry.

Dear Journal,

I suppose the Seven of Seven labortories thought they were doing us a favor; our children are growing up, it was only logical to assume we would be of the desire to have another baby. Needless to say, Thali was thrilled to have recieved a letter from them. Despite my reminding her of her promise of no more kids You can't have expected me to keep that--it was no use. She had fallen in love with him. I could see why she had. Kaleb has a lovable personality. At first he was shy, and sweet. He seemed rather attached to Thali.

Of course he would, I was the one who went to pick him up. Anyway, you can be frightening when one is just meeting you.

To my surprise, Joshua and Vincent were the least excited. I heard Josh mutter about having expected another sibling; and Vincent said something about babysitting. Not the response we had expected--Joshua had always seemed happy with his siblings. And Vinny--he never complained.

He's jealous, of course; I would have thought that to be obvious. He is a child of greed. He thinks Kaleb's taking us away from him.

Thali took longer introducing Kaleb to the twins. I suppose that was to be expected, seeing as Sammi seems to have inherited most of her mother's personality traits. Both of them were equally excited to have a baby in the house; they were probably also excited to no longer be the youngest in the household. The girls led our newest addition to their room.

I had a chance to speak with Thali.

You know Ben, you're not very good at telling stories. A writer you may be, but leave the journal writing to me.

"You promised," I complained, once the children were out of earshot. Whatever Thali may say, I am not so cruel as to let children hear our arguements.

"He needs us, Ben. You know I couldn't let him stay in a lab after they contacted us." Yes, I knew. This was the same excuse Thali had made when she had gone to pick up Vincent. She thought labs were horrible places. She couldn't stand the thought of a baby being experimented and studied.

I didn't dare point out that Kaleb had quite possibly been the experiment.

But you dare to write it down?

Thali is rather stubborn. She never listens to reason--she always does just what I tell her not to.

Ben is very stubborn. He never listens. He's always trying to tell me what to do.

The rest of the journal entry seems to have been erased in a hasty manner. We might assume that whatever Benjamin said about his wife, Thali had erased it in annoyence. Or perhaps Ben himself did it.

How Vincent had been convinced to teach his younger brother the alphabet was beyond him. His mother was the teacher, not him. Why couldn't she do it? She'd taught the rest of them, and they had turned out fine. Vincent could not help the feeling that he was going to somehow mess this up. How would he teach Kaleb? Joshua had learned with song; Vincent himself by focusing on the shape of the letter. Then it hit him. Thali had always played to their strengths when teaching them. He would play to Kaleb's, and follow her example.

He looked to the toddler; Kaleb was sitting on the living room couch, picking petals off a daisy. Where he got all these flowers was beyond Vincent; he assumed Kaleb was given them. "Hey Kal," he said. "Mom wants us to learn the alphabet today."

Kaleb looked up, still holding the daisy. It only had six petals left. "Dun you know it 'ready?" he asked with some surprise. "Dun you know your ABCs and 123's 'Cent?" He had stopped picking at the daisy now, hands clasped neatly in his lap, quite accidently smashing the flower between them.

Vincent sighed, and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "I meant you," he said. "Mom wants me to teach you the alphabet, and I thought--" He was interrupted by a frowning toddler.

"Why Mommy not teachin' me? She the best."

"I don't know--and I know she is," Vincent said with a nod. "Maybe she had something to do and wasn't able to get around to it, or something." The spawn couldn't think of anything more important than Kaleb's education, though. "So I'll teach you," he added.

He took a spiral notebook from the coffee table in front of them. He carefully drew an apple; but it didn't matter if he was careful or not. Vincent was no artist. "Here," he said, handed it to Kaleb. "When you give someone an apple, you remember that apple starts with A." He wrote a captized A in midair. "You try," he suggested.

Kaleb did. He was close, Vincent had to admire the boy. His A looked more like a upside down V without the line. "You forgot this part," Vinny said. "There's a line across the middle, right here," he said.

Several minutes later, maybe even an hour or so, Kaleb was writing the alphabet. Messily, awkwardly, it was true. But the toddler was writing it.

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)

Dear Journal,

Ben here, which has more recently become the norm. And as usual, the children are growing at an unrealistic rate. Well, I shouldn't say that. They are growing at a rate that seems unrealistic to me. It seems like only a few days ago that Thali was bringing Kaleb home from the lab.

See journal, Kaleb's actually the reason I'm writing today. Thali insists upon the fact that I record each time they grow. Kaleb actually grew quite some time ago; I apologize, journal. I haven't had the time to write. Kaleb has grown into a fine boy, really--but then, he was always a well behaved toddler, if not a bit too generous. Thali still makes him wear a bandaid on his forehead; she has never told me why. Perhaps he has a scar there, and she doesn't want the sun to make it worse. Perhaps he was hurt there and she hopes that a bandaid will cure it.

Once I saw him with it off; there was no such injury that I could see. There was something strange about it, all the same. It was like closed fish gills, why on Gaia Thali would be hiding this is beyond me. She seems to be afraid of what might happen if Kaleb is not wearing a bandaid.

Now days Kaleb is often rubbing at it, as if it itches. I can't say I blame him, really. My skin would itch too, if it was always under a bandaid. I wonder what Thali's reasoning is behind it. Is it an opening from which Kaleb's powers will come? Is she afraid of him? Nonsense. Thali has treated him no different than our older children; she's always been a doting mother.

She must have a reason for it; and knowing her, it's a rather good one. Even if I do not understand it.

Next time someone writes, it'll be Kaleb, journal. Be kind to him. Thali insists that the family take turns writing in you; but I haven't seen her write an entry in sometime.

Yours,

Ben
