It happened so fast and the black feather of the murkrow made it hard to spot. Jasper tumbled back over being hit by astonish, he flinched. It allowed Murkrow to fly away unobstructed. "Jasper!" William stood up up so fast when it happened that he nearly toppled the wok he was using. His worry wasn't necessary as Jasper shook the effect of astonish off. Since Jasper was okay, he shifted his gaze toward the the bird. The cry was unmistakably a murkrow. A Johto native and known to be scavenger, thief, bringer of bad luck, etc. All sort of unsavory label was attached to murkrow. He couldn't help but became depressed as to see Murkrow at night meant misfortune was soon to come or so the superstition went. He did not want to believe it, though it did bother him. Things he could not ponder more as in front of him, the murkrow had dived in again. It aimed for the food bowl, but Jasper stood in front of it protectively and extended his vines to whip the bird. It dived down to dodge, speeding up and reached Jasper with a peck. A super effective attack that damaged the bulbasaur more than normal. Mur attempted to use scratch on it, only to have his target flying out of reach.
It was a bad situation, his mind shifted between his pokemon to the murkrow. Unable to think proper solution other than he needed to defeat the murkrow. Who on his team could? Mur couldn't reach the murkrow, while Jasper had weakness against flying and his attack did not do much, there's Agate whose icy wind dealt massive damage on flying type, but lacked ability to move properly on land. His best bet would be to have Agate attack as soon as he threw her pokeball. if he released Agate in the air perhaps? no, he wasn't sure Agate could survive a fall or if the attack got dodged.
The more time he took, the more damage the murkrow did. William decided to try and what comes comes. "Mur grab the food bowl, lure it. Jasper, follow and find chance to shoot leech seed," William issued the order and he hoped his pokemon understood what he wanted. He, himself wasn't sure it would work or whether the murkrow will catch on their plan. Fortunately, the murkrow was famished enough to go after Mur the moment he grabbed the food bowl. "Eeep," Mur hastily tried to get some distance. He did not go far; for murkrow had dived in for him, completely ignoring Jasper. It was easy to aim when one knew the murkrow was heading for Mur in straight line. Jasper who was running behind shot his leech seed, it hit murkrow's back and immediately bound the murkrow in vines. it wasn't effective enough, not that it matter, what William wanted was done. He threw Agate's pokeball above the murkrow, "AGATE, ICY WIND BELOW," he ordered as the light of the pokeball lit the dark sky. Agate attacked before the light subsided. Cold wind slammed unto the murkrow, ice numbing the bird and did a lot of damage. The pokemon fell in heaps of tangled vines and frost.
William sighed in relief that it worked, then he remembered to shout for Jasper to catch Agate. "bulba bulba," Jasper was already on it, running in circle trying to catch Agate with his vine. He slipped a couple of attempt due to Agate's wet scales. When Jasper caught Agate, he warped her too hard that Agate took damage. She slapped her tail across Jasper's face when he released her. The two was soon deep in argument, while William inspected the murkrow that was no securely immobile.
"Murkrooow . . . " the bird mustered pitiful expression as best as it could to make William go easy on it. After how nasty the pokemon acted, William wasn't convinced. He sighed at how the bird now tried to appeal to him. "what should I do with you now," he said as he examined the murkrow with his eyes. Murkrow shouldn't be in Kanto and the attack was quite odd. Murkrow had penchant to steal shiny object, not food. A stray most likely or a trainer's pokemon that got released. The answer presented itself when Murkrow's stomach grumbled loudly. It was simple, it was hungry and so it tried to steal their food. "Mur, bring that bowl here," William gestured for Mur to come. The espurr was a bit annoyed that William went and gave the food they defended even when they won, still, he complied. "Thanks," William said as he rubbed the espurr's head. He then set the bowl in front of the murkrow, even when it's all tangled up, William judged it was capable of eating. "Krow?" it made no move to eat. the murkrow's gaze was mistrustful. "Eat up, I expect you to leave after," William bluntly stated. He wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. His decision was attributed to his concern of handling troublemaker like murkrow. The murkrow needed to go.
Murkrow seemed satisfied at William's honest answer. It could accept that William wanted it to finish its business with them and leave. The food, murkrow thought was naivety, one he thought as foolish, but benefit it, so it silently accepted. It was further surprised to have the human healing his wound with potion after it was full. It thought it was lucky to have meet human like William as it was helped as a result. When the human untangled it, the murkrow cawed his gratitude, it was not an ungrateful pokemon. It was appreciated so much that murkrow left an eviolite behind before it took off.
"At least that one knows some manner, maybe it's a trainer's pokemon once . . . " William commented when he picked up the object. "Let's go back, our meal is cold," he returned Agate and made his way back to their camp.

William returned to the sight of burning food, if it could still be called one. "Water! get some water!" he shouted out as soon as he realized what's the source of the unpleasant smoke. He briefly considered dumping the wok into the river, but it was too hot for him to touch. "Bulba bulbasaur!!!" Jasper handed him an empty bowl filled with water. "Ahh, you are a lifesaver," William said as he used it to splash the content of the wok. Now that it wasn't in danger of bursting into flame, William rummaged for cloth to use to lift the wok off the campfire. The thing's now unusable, he would need to get a new one.
The panic made him missed a pikachu that was present in the middle of the camp. It wasn't until it approached William that everyone present turned to look at the pikachu. "Piika chuu," it didn't like how their attention was focused on it, yet it braced itself with determination. "Pikachu pika chu chu," the pikachu gestured to William's pokeball on his belt. ". . . translation?" William looked toward Mur for aid. "She wants to come with us," Mur translated. He thought the pokemon was stubborn, William showed no interest in taking the pokemon with him. William scratched the back of his head, clearly troubled. He did not want to take in just any pokemon as he feared he won't be able to care for all of them and so he told the pikachu, " find someone else." Unwilling to let the reply be the end of it, the pikachu pushed on," pika piika pikachu ", < then, I will follow you until I find someone else. >
William had no way to rebuke that statement. He also found it troublesome to debate with the pikachu, especially with how the pikachu showed that it won't leave anyway no matter what he said. "Do what you want, just don't be a bother" he sighed. He started to think that he might find someone willing to trade the pikachu off one day. "Right right, the pokeball," he tossed it unenthusiastically to the pikachu who had begun to nag him about it.

Night pass uneventful afterward and morning rolled in . . . to early noon. William did not get enough sleep due to uncomfortable thought. He kept on thinking what would happen if camping horror storied came true. Like waking up surrounded by angry pokemon or ghostly visit or flood washed the tent away and dread inducing noises, such as clicking and skittering bugs, scream of rattata being hunted, etc. Yeah, it was a very sleepless night for William. He woke up tired, surrounded by pokemon that he nearly jumped in terror if he did not remember they are his. Only after much struggling, ushering and complaining to woke them and made his way out of the tent, he had to prepare for food, then have his pokemon helped him fold his tent, bury the campfire, and only then could they depart.
William wasn't in a good mood when his trip was interrupted by a kakuna. Pikachu was quick to take the spotlight in her eagerness to prove herself that she wasn't as weak as William thought her to be. She started with thundershock and only got grazed with poison sting, before she shocked the kakuna again to unconsciousness. William was worried that she would get poisoned during the battle, he gave her a stern warning, causing her to droop her ears.
Not much happened that day, they had walked without taking detour until they exited the forest. Jasper did pick up strange seed that William let him hold.

To get to the Viridian Forest Matt first needed to pass through the building connecting it to Route 2. He had heard of these buildings; they existed between some Routes and important landmarks for some reason. Probably to give people a rest stop if they couldn't make it all the way back to town. The building was a large single room with a handful of chairs and only a single woman behind the help counter. The woman smiled and waved as he walked through, and he nodded and smiled back in return before walking through the doors on the other side and entered Viridian Forest. The transition from inside to outside was a jarring experience for Matt. He knew the forest was large, but he was blown away by just how large it was. Looking up he could hardly see any sunlight leaking in through holes and gaps made by the tops of the trees. It was still afternoon, but the lighting here made it seem like it was nearly night already. Matt felt the excitement of entering a new place for the first time taking a hold of him. "This is amazing! Right, guys?" Matt said, turning around only to realize he was the only one in the forest yet. "Guys...?" Matt realized that in his excitement he must not of realized that Teddy and Hayes hadn't caught up to him. Embarrassed, Matt decided to sit down on against a tree near the door and wait for the others. He was sure they wouldn't be long. While he waited he sent out Bulbasaur, which laid down next to him.

Teddy answered Hayes question as they entered the forest. "It was a special delivery I picked up whilst we were in Viridian. He's my partner in crime. I don't think I'd manage this journey without him." Teddy said handling Wani-Wani's Pokeball. He attached it back onto his belt and patted it. "You don't have any Pokemon hiding anywhere do you? Or is it just you and Bulbasaur?" Teddy asked, eager to know his companions more.
As soon as Teddy stepped into Viridian Forest, he felt like he was constantly being watched from above. He had a feeling that the whole place was full of Pokemon and the idea excited him. He wondered what his time in the forest had in store. He cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled out "Matt! You around chief?"

Matt sat near the entrance of Viridian Forest against a large tree with his Bulbasaur resting in his lap while he waited for his friends to show up. He didn't meant to get ahead of Teddy and Hayes, he was just so excited to reach the forest that he didn't even realize he was walking ahead until he had arrived. So until he caught up he decided to just sit and wait for them to catch up so he didn't end up getting lost or anything. While he was sitting he heard some rustling in the bushes behind him. He shifted slightly to be able to look over his shoulder and saw a Caterpie sticking its head out of the bushes, staring at him. "Hello there, little guy." Matt said. The Caterpie looked at him for a moment before fully emerging from the bushes and crawling towards him. The Caterpie stopped just a few inches away from his leg and looked at both him and Bulbasaur in his lap before calling out in a cheerful tone. "Caterpriiiiie!~" It said, and rubbed against his arm. A few moments later a Kakuna descended from the tree he was leaning against and stopped, hanging a foot from his head. It seemed curious, but friendly and decided to hang around the trainer as well. Matt wasn't sure why this always happened to him, but whenever he'd get lost or simply not have his battling switch flipped, he would run into Pokemon all the time. Whenever he was in a calm mood, so were the Pokemon around him. Just like when he wanted to battle, he would only run into aggressive Pokemon. He never really understood it, he just accepted these strange encounters as they happened. A few minutes passed and by that time there was a handful of Pokemon hanging around Matt and his Bulbasaur. Caterpie, Weedles, Pidgey, and other common forest Pokemon stood near the trainer. Even a Pikachu was watching from the bushes nearby. Matt heard rustling in the bushes behind him, but they sounded much heavier than anything else that had showed up yet. Suddenly, a large blue horn stuck out of the bushes and Matt could feel his heartbeat start to increase as he slowly reached for a Pokeball from his bag. But before he could do anything, he heard Teddy call out his name. All the nearby Pokemon instantly scattered and ran back into the bushes. Matt's head dropped and he sighed, putting the Pokeball back in his bag and scooting Bulbasaur off his lap so he could get up. Oh well... He sighed as he stood up and brushed the dirt and leaves off his pants. He waved towards Teddy and started jogging over to them. "Hey guys, I'm over here!" Matt called out.

Hayes nodded as Teddy explained Totodile's sudden appearance, apparently he'd done even better in Viridian than he'd realized; clothes, a bag, and even another Pokémon. When he asked if Hayes had other Pokémon, he shook his head. "It's, uh, just us." Hayes answered, glad he'd asked about Totodile as despite travelling for a time, the three of them hadn't had too many opportunities to get to know each other. It was time to find Matt, however, as they crossed into Viridian Forest. He took a moment to let it sink in as it had a definite atmosphere around it, especially compared to the Route they'd been travelling on; it made him anxious and excited at the same time, and that made it all seem worth it.
Teddy called out for Matt after they'd taken it all in and it wasn't long before Matt answered, calling back as he made his way over to them. "Ah, glad you didn't get too far ahead of us. See anything interesting?" Hayes asked, not entirely sure how long Matt had been in the forest before they'd gotten there, but it had that vibe to it that made him think he might've.

Sounded like Bulbasaur was indeed Hayes first Pokemon, or at least the only one he had with him. The differences between the three of his companions was interesting. Soon enough his call for Matt was answered and he saw their once lost friend appear from the bushes at a brisk jogging pace. "There you are mate." and toddling behind Matt came his Bulbasaur "and hello to you Bulbasaur" Teddy said, waving at the grass type. "Doesn't seem like you two have been bothered by any of the local Pokemon. You scaring them away?" Teddy joked, slapping Matt on the back jovially. "So you guys have any plans for our forest getaway? I'm considering using that honey we have and giving that a whirl" Teddy suggested, pulling the honey from his bag and inspecting it.

Matt was relieved to see Hayes and Teddy enter the forest, and glad they hadn't been separated too long. If he had to wait much longer for them he probably would've gone back to check on them. He heard Hayes comment that he was glad he didn't get too far ahead and asked if he saw anything interesting. "Yeah, sorry about that. You guys get held up in your battles?" He asked as he stopped next to them. "And just a handful of Pokemon so far." Teddy slapped him on the back, greeting both him and Bulbasaur, before making a comment about how it didn't seem like any local Pokemon had been bother him. That made him remember the Heracross he was certain that he had seen, and he was determined to catch it before they left the forest. "The Pokemon here seem to be pretty friendly actually. Really skittish though." Matt replied. Teddy then suggested they try out the honey, which Matt was all for. He was sure that if there was anything that could lure out the Heracross, it would be the honey. "Yeah, I'm down to give this Honey a try!" He said, making sure to have a tight hold of Mudkip's Pokeball so it didn't burst out and try to eat the honey.

"Ran into a pair of Nidoran, actually... Didn't get the chance to catch either of them, though." He said in response to Matt, likely looking a bit disappointed as he shrugged his shoulders; but he figured it wouldn't be his last chance. Hayes nodded as Matt told them he'd encountered a few Pokémon already and that they'd even been friendly, a nice change of pace if it didn't change. Teddy was the next one to speak up, bringing up the Honey they'd been given back at the PokéMart and seeing if they were up for giving it a try. And while he had his misgivings about the idea of using it in a forest as big as this one, they weren't enough to stop him from agreeing. It was only a bit of honey, after all. "As long as we're here, we might as well." Hayes said, rooting around inside his bag for the jar of honey; glad it hadn't spilled at all when he'd found it. After he'd found it and taken it out, he took a moment to look around, wondering if it mattered what tree they smeared it on. Probably not, he suspected. "...I guess that one?" He asked, pointing at a nearby tree that seemed particularly large, even by the standards of this forest. "Or..." He continued, trailing off as he looked at some of the other trees, slowly turning his gaze on them one at a time until he found one he liked and approached it, smearing as much honey from the jar as he could onto it before he made his way back over to where they'd all been standing; it wasn't like he'd gone far in search of a tree, after all.

"Sounds perfect to me" Teddy said with a short nod. He began wandering around their immediate area, stroking the trees. Knocking on the trunks and listening to them. He had to be sure it was the right tree. Who knew what kind of Pokemon would be attracted to the honey? This was an important decision. His decision on a tree could mean he could attract a rare and amazing Pokemon. It could easily attract another Caterpie, but that was the thrill of the chase and the thrill of Pokemon. Teddy soon found his tree, not far from where they were stood. He opened the jar of honey and scooped up a handful, smearing it against the tree bark.
"Bring me something good honey" he said to the tree, patting it on the trunk as he walked back towards Matt and Hayes, licking his fingers free of the remaining unsoiled honey. Back with his new friends, he sat down on the ground cross legged. "I guess now we wait. Matt, you find your tree and then we can start telling each other scary stories! Or mystery stories! Like the mystery of why you decided to come on a journey. I realised we never asked you" Teddy said, this was their first chance to truly get to know each other, Teddy wasn't going to waste this chance.

"Two Nidoran? Like male and female? Shame you didn't get to catch them, their final evolutions are pretty awesome." Matt said to Hayes when he mentioned they got caught up in battles. Hayes then suggested a large tree for their honey use, but Teddy was already off scouting out for his own location. Matt knew immediately where he would use his Honey; the spot where he spotted the Heracross earlier. Teddy returned before Matt even got a chance to move, and suggested Matt go use his honey so they could tell stories while they waited. He then added that he wanted to know why he decided to go on his journey. "Oh yeah, sure! Gimme a minute." Matt said, glad they were curious. Matt quickly jogged over to the tree was at earlier, pulled out the Honey from his bag and smeared the contents over the bark. "Ew, gross... This better attract a Heracross." He said, trying to wipe the leftover honey onto the tree. He quickly gave up on that and simply released Mudkip, who had no issues getting all the honey off his hand, and cleaning out the jar while he was at it. After spreading the honey he returned both Bulbasaur and Mudkip to their Pokeballs and walked back over to Teddy and Hayes before sitting down next to them. "Alrighty, now we wait I guess." Matt remarked, before answering Teddy's question. "Well like I said in Professor Oak's Lab, I'm from Hoenn. My parents run the Daycare there, so I've spent a lot of my life around Pokemon. It was fun, but I want to become an Ace Trainer. It took some convincing, but they finally caved and let me start my journey here in Kanto. I wanted to start here cause Professor Oak is here, and it just seemed like a good place to start. I don't want to go back home until I'm strong enough to challenge the Pokemon League..."

Teddy listened to Matt's story. He imagined what it must have been like to live at a Pokemon Daycare Centre. Matt must have been constantly surrounded by new and interesting Pokemon. It must have been a wonderful childhood. Not that Teddy was envious, he adored growing up by Cianwood and the ocean. It helped to make him become the man he was today. "Sounds like you had a great childhood Matt. I imagined hanging with all those Pokemon helped to spur your journey on" Teddy said, a pensive smile on his face. "It looks like you and your Mudkip get on well. You guys been pals for long?" he asked, wondering if Matt and his Mudkip were similar to Teddy and Wani-Wani. He awaited the answer, when he heard rustling of leaves behind him.
There was something at the honey tree.

Teddy parted the bushes to find a Pokemon attached to his tree, enjoying his literal honey trap. "A ha! It worked!" Teddy yelled, jumping from the bushes. The Pokemon was startled and flapped it's wings quickly, kicking up a storm of leaves."Beeeaaauuuuuuutifly"it cried. As it's cry suggested, it was a Beautifly. What could have been said to be the Hoenn equivalent of Butterfree. Teddy thought things through as he tapped each of his Pokeballs. The gust pushed around by Beautifly's wings would cause havoc for a grass type like Bulbasaur. He went to pick Totodile's Pokeball when another Pokeball burst open from his belt.
"Cater-prriiieee"it cried out. "Caterpie? Really? You sure you're up for this?" Teddy asked. He was apprehensive of using his Caterpie on such a foe as this. Beautifly was a final stage evolution and this was Caterpie's first match. Who knew how it could go? Caterpie looked back with a furrowed brow and a nod."Prrriiiee"she cried out. "You're right. Sorry girl. You got this!" Teddy said, as he went to issue an attack, the Beautifly, still stuck to the tree began it's attack. An aura began to push out from Beautifly, but this was unlike the one from Rattata earlier. This pulled the aura back. Teddy was shocked to see Caterpie begin to weaken. He looked up at Beautifly as he realised what it was. "An absorb attack! It's sucking Caterpie's health away for it's own!" Teddy shouted rhetorically. "Break through the attack Caterpie! Tackle!" Teddy shouted. His Caterpie began a run up and leapt into the air, hitting the Beautifly off the tree and into the air. From the air it attempted another absorb attack, taking in Caterpie's health, Caterpie went for another tackle attack. They continued this for a couple more rounds.
"Just keep pushing through it Caterpie. It is on the ropes I know it" Teddy shouted. Both of the Pokemon were looking haggard and breathing deeply. This would be the last attack for both of them. Teddy wiped sweat from his brow. He went to ask Caterpie if it was up for the challenge, but he knew he had to have faith in his team. He held his tongue, at least for that command. "CATERPIE. TACKLE. GO!" Teddy shouted loudly, Caterpie cried triumphantly as it sped towards the Beautifly who was hovering closer to the ground now that fatigue was setting in. It was surviving on borrowed time. Caterpie leapt into the air once more and delivered what would be the final blow.
Beautifly fell to the ground instantly. It was beaten. Teddy watched Caterpie fall and ran to it's aid, catching it before it hit the ground, Teddy skidding across the floor on his knees. "You did good Caterpie. Quite the debut for you. You deserve a good rest" Teddy said, going to get Caterpie's Pokeball from his belt but then something unexpected happened."Prrriieee"Caterpie cried as it was engulfed in a bright glow, unlike one Teddy had seen before. He felt the mass of Caterpie change in seconds, as well as her shape. Soon the glow had faded and Teddy was knelt holding a new Pokemon. He stood up, holding his new Metapod awestruck. Holding it out he ran back to their camp. "Guys! Caterpie evolved!"

After he'd returned from using the honey on a tree, Hayes sat down as Teddy had and listened as he tossed around a few ideas; sharing stories, mostly... and asking Matt about why he'd decided on going on a journey. "I like that idea." Hayes said in response to the idea that Matt tell them about his decision to go on a journey, shifting a little on the ground after Teddy had suggested they tell each other scary stories. "Was wondering about it myself, after we didn't have the chance to ask... and I'm not too big on scary stories." He admitted, cracking a nervous smile. It wasn't like it was an irrational dislike of them; Hayes had a pretty good reason for not being too keen on them, especially if it was anything that involved a haunting.
After Matt had found a tree and put the honey on it, he returned and told them about where he'd come from and what he was trying to do on the journey. "Pokémon League? That'd be impressive, I could say I knew you when." Hayes said, about to continue until he heard a noise in the grass near where he'd put the honey.
