Lenora gave a nod of conceding defeat once her last pokemon was taken out, returning him and giving a murmur of thanks for his effort before he turned to Noel, smiling. "That's one impressive Azurill you have on your hands, and its certainly got a fierce blizzard." As if to how this Lenora began to gently brush bits of snow off her shoulders, simultaneously walking closer to the white-haired boy. "You didn't rely on type advantages, but pure strength, and I respect that. For yours and your pokemon's effort here I present to you the Basic badge and the TM Retaliate," with her smile ever present she handed both items over to Noel. "Keep at it, kid, you're doing great."

Noel grinned, immediately scooping Mattimeo into his arms and giving the Azurill a tight squeeze. In jubilation. "That was great, Matty! You were amazing!" He practically squealed, the blue mouse wiggling in his arms in response and chirping excitedly. That was a far better outcome than the first time they’d battled with Mattimeo handling all the pokemon on his own. Sure, there was a little luck involved with those freezes but they’d pulled it off and that was what counted.
Noel shifted his gaze from his pokemon to Lenora as she approached and handed him his winning, chest whelming with pride. It took every fiber of his being not to fling forward and give her a grateful hug in response, instead just letting the large grin on his face speak for itself. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" He chimed in response, giving a little bow and nearly knocking his headset off in the process. Noel caught it though and adjusted them before taking the items from the gym leader.
"Thank you!" He repeated for the third time, eyeing his winnings before shoving them away in his bag, scooping Mattimeo and Algernon up again. He bowed one last time as he started to backpedal before turning on his heels and practically skipping to the door. It was off to the pokemon center and then on to the next challenge!

Nacrene City was far more artsy in its style than Striaton. You could tell this was probably where those hipster artist types ended up in their pursuit of finding the perfect picture or something. Lafayette didn’t really know; he wasn’t much for art. He was sure pictures were just that… pictures. Deeper meanings to them? Yeah no, he didn’t get that. "Hm..," Luckily the gym had nothing to do with art. Or at least, it was the art of history; fossils and figures of long gone pokemon in skeletal form lined the walls as he entered.
He took a little time to peruse the figures, even pulling out his pokedex and scanning some of them. He’d heard rumors that you could recover fossils to bring these things back to life, but that’d require some digging. Something Juliean would probably have him doing in no time at all to be honest. Least it’d be a little more physically intensive than just pokemon battling. That’d be a nice change.
Eventually he stopped and with Noah and Cheri, headed towards the back. They located a curator who seemed to be sweeping snow off the field, inquiring about the gym leader. It wasn’t long though before the woman returned, catching Lafayette off guard. She looked like a tough one… she just kind of had that vibe. He grinned a little as they greeted each other, taking up his place on the now cleaned field ready to battle. The moment the normal types started appearing, he knew what to do…

Gym Leader Lenora
Lenora exhaled and gave a stretch, a soft smile flickering across her face. "Well aren't you too just full of surprises," she mused, stepping onto the battlefield to return her Herdier before she continued forward to approach Lala. "I was expecting to have to deal with fire." The gym leader chuckled before she began to dole out the handyman's earnings. "Surprises on the battlefield are good though, it's certainly managed to win you the Basic Badge, and Retaliate. It's a good, revenge seeking move, perfect for when your surprises don't go as planned."

Lafayette smiled a bit at Lenora’s response, reaching out and taking the items from her as she handed them off. "Ta sheila. Was a good one." He grinned a bit. Was it really a surprise? He didn’t think so. Arcanine were versatile as pokemon and Micah had more than proved that; though there was that sleep mess that nearly gave them trouble. Luckily, his item had helped, a wise choice that Lafayette needed to re-evaluate for the rest of his team. Maybe later.
He returned Micah, waving good-bye to Lenora and turning to retrieve his things once more. Cheri still had his communicator and seemed rather enraptured with it, actively using it somehow. He couldn’t really tell what she was doing and didn’t really think much about it. She was a pokemon after all, what harm could there be? Without much hesitation and once more, a trip to the pokemon center they were off.
Cheri in the meantime studied the response from Mel, noting the hint of confusion that seemed to be in the response. She thought a moment before quickly clicking out a reply and sending it, nestling into her seat as they took off on Dova once more.
Text to Mel: Well that is good to hear. You trainer humans need to keep in good health and all.
This is Cheri. You are... Mel was it?

Noel waited for his team to be healed, mulling over his options. The next gym was in Castelia and while he was feeling pumped from the recent win, he knew he wasn’t ready to take on Burgh. He’d need some more training, just to make sure they were tough enough to take whatever punches came there way. He was reading over a magazine while he waited, trying to get an idea of what he could do.
Algernon was seated on the table right near him, looking the magazine over as well. Noel flipped to a page which seemed to catch the Espurr’s attention, the pokemon immediately squeak and press a paw to the page. Noel blinked and looked curiously at what Algernon was point at. "What is it, Algy?" The white haired lad inquired, looking at the page with confusion. This section was about some ruins in Sinnoh; Solaceon to be exact. That was hardly anywhere close to where they were. Still, something about it had caught Algernon’s attention as he repeatedly tapped the page.
"You think we should go there and train?" He frowned tilting his head. The place was apparently riddled with Unown… psychic types. What was Algernon thinking. The Espurr stared at his trainer a moment and thorugh what must’ve been silent communication, Noel seemed to understand. "Well… alright, sure. There’s no harm in visiting other regions after all." He adjusted the headphones on his head absently. Maybe there’d be something else to discover as well.
With that decided, he plotted the route he’d need to take to get to the ruins; it wasn’t too far of a trek, though they’d have to head back to Castelia again to catch a train. Fair enough. Once his pokemon were healed and returned, Noel was off.

Castelia City was home to the third gym in the Unova league, and since Scarlett herself only had the first badge in this region, she figured she may as well return to Nacrene and finish what she had thought of starting so long ago; a battle with Lenora. After having traveled through the entirety of Sinnoh collecting eggs and being unable to battle gym leaders there since she'd already faced and defeated half of them, Scarlett was itching for a battle. Surely it would help get her out of this weird funk she was in.
Hopping off of her ride Charizard, she stepped into the gym and froze, regretting her decision to come here. Books, there were books as far as the eye could see. Suddenly she was home again in her father's library as he read to her about historical sites and legends of powerful pokemon. Her breath caught, and she stepped back. Not this, not now. She was looking for a distraction dammit. Someone's hand caught her wrist, and Scarlett reacted immediately, pulling away and aiming to punch her assaulter in the solar plexus and kidneys until her eyes caught Vandal. "Easy!!! Easy Cap! It's just me, calm down..." Vandal was staring at her, wide eyed with concern, and Scarlett glared, ripping her arm out of his grasp. "Daen't ever do that again, or next time I won't stop myself." She growled. "I'm sorry, but ya looked like ya were havin' a panic attack standin' there.""I was surprised to find a library, so what? Daen't mean ya kin grab me like that. That's what gave me tha real heart attack. Arceus..." She skulked away from the zoroark, and Vandal lamented being back to square one as they made their way down into the basement of the gym where Lenora awaited them.

Keeping her congratulatory saved until she was closer, Lenora approached Scarlett quietly and with a badge and disc in hand. "You two ought to be proud," she spoke, offering a smile. "You did well. Here's your badge, and a little something extra from me." She kept things short, offering her champion a firm handshake and her items before, with a soft nod, she bade her goodbye and dismissed herself, keen on healing her pokemon for the next battle. Whenever that came.
Scarlett Received - Basic Badge - TM67 Retaliate +30 exp. given to Aegis
1/1 Movement (Flying Enabled) | 161/5 Pokemon Encounter | 252/15 Trainer NPC | Item Bumps: -- | Need to Claim: 30/30 Expert Belt, Hold/Forme Change Item of Choice (from Just Getting Started Achievement), 10/10 Red Shard x2, 1 event item of choice and 2 TMs of choice (from Whack a Gym Achievement) | Wishlist: Mail Crates (30 City Posts), Expert Belt (30 posts), Heart Scales, TM Earthquake, TM Stone Edge | Current Attire: Sky blue halter top and white capris
Taking her prizes, Scarlett nodded in quiet thanks to Lenora and quickly left the gym and made her way to the pokemon center. The sooner she left that gym, the better. Unfortunately, instead of feeling better, Scarlett had managed to make herself feel worse with that battle. When she was inside the pokemon center, she gave Aegis over to Nurse Joy before looking at her list of egg locations. Castelia was still out of the question, unfortunately, given her worsening mood, but there was another option. The Desert Resort. A resort sounded nice right about now, but she needed to look more into it, something that was resolved with a quick search. Scarlett had been picturing an oasis with palm trees and cold water, but instead she found a sandy wasteland with relics from a distant past, which was even better, in Scarlett's opinion. With her destination in mind, she moved to a clothing store nearby. If she was heading into the desert, she would need to be properly geared. A cloak and some go goggles would do. Nothing too warm, just coverage from the sun and goggles to protect her eyes from the sand. Afterwards, she returned to pick up aegis, returning Vandal calling her ride charizard before heading out.
[-/5 Posts for Egg (No Egg Available), Exit to Desert Resort]

The two walked in relative silence as they broke through the forest and entered Nacrene City. "So where's the gym?" Trey asked, glancing around. JR raised an eyebrow and glanced at him. "You do know you have to start with the first one with gyms, right? You can't hop in wherever, like contests," he pointed back, and at the frown he got, rolled his eyes, "This is the city of the second gym. The first one is one town over. Dont' worry, it shouldn't take too long to get there," he added with mocking reassurance.
Notes to self: "Elvrick Hirsh" is JR's 'Trainer' persona

Trey was now refusing to look at him, and JR was okay with that. In fact, honestly, it was amusing watching the boy narrow his eyes at the ground, instead, and try and manage the scowl that was clearly trying to carve its way onto his face. The older man smirked, looking down at him out of the corner of his eye, still absently tossing the pokeball. "So, I take it you wont' let me change up your pokemon's movesets?" he asked casually, mostly just to goad a reaction out of the teen, than to actually pursue the matter. He pretty much knew the answer, too, and by the success of the scowl crossing his face, he could rest fairly certainly of that, too. "No," was all he got.

JJ was honestly enjoying this. Bugging Trey, while they were on the move, was really his only past time. If he wasn't doing that, he would need to be working, or he'd risk being bored. It wasn't like he had people he was messaging regularly, and he couldn't just disappear while they were between cities, especially if he had upcoming plans. His mind started wandering back to Slateport, but just as it started to touch on something, another question rose for him to bother the teen with. "What about items?" he asked oh so innocently, smiling at the man. To his surprise, though, Trey didn't scowl, or roll his eyes. His expression went blank. He kept walking, but he slowed slightly, and stared straight ahead. ".... What?" JR raised his eyebrows at a verbal response. "Items? Can I change their hold items?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at him. He did know about those, right...? Trey was quiet a moment, looking down with a slight frown. ".... Sure, you can give 'em items, if you have 'em," he muttered distractedly. Well that was odd...

"Careful Klaus, I hear she can be a rough mistress," the boxer cautioned, laughing a little softer this time before she hurt anything else. At this point they all seemed in agreement to hit the road before doing anything else, hopefully sorting everything out as they went. Kraven wasn't particularly picky about the destination, but the prospect of food and Phoenix's own need made Nacrene a fine choice. She kept a hand to her side as they set out, even as her flesh stopped its painful throbbing.
True to her word, Kraven did her best to abridge the situation on their way, with some healthy fudging of details when it hurt to think about specifics. The broad strokes were intact though; She was returning to Castelia when the forest opened up into a gaping hole, dragging her and another trainer inside. Through there she found herself in the Distortion World, and explained all the weirdness of the scenery and the inconsistency of its laws of physics. She detoured briefly to inform her of the benefit of such odd gravity--namely the ability to leap across a gap and safely land fist-first on some opportunistic thugs. She couldn't help that one, feeling the valkyrie comment was a little too good to not mention after Klaus' earlier jests.
The rest wasn't particularly exciting, bridging the gap between then and now by explaining how she found her exit and came through it, and how that resulted in them falling into a heap on the forest floor. "...And that's the gist of it," Kraven concluded, now a few steps into town before turning to her companion. "In retrospect I definitely couldn't have been in there for more than a few hours, but I dunno. Just feels like it took a while for me to get back."

The trip from Striaton to Nacrene was uneventful and quiet. Reese had withdrawn into his own thoughts as they walked and hadn’t once addressed his team after they’d left the pokemon center. He seemed… bothered or agitated; more than usual. Of course, only Jaxston seemed to pay any mind to this fact; Ginger was busy keeping Quixote entertained and out of trouble and not paying their trainer any mind.
The Snivy felt he ought to be doing the same, but it was hard. So instead he turned his attention to the ‘prize’ he’d selected. A mushroom with odd patterns that would… well he had no idea what it would do. Maybe he was meant to eat it? No one had really clarified to him exactly what he was supposed to do with it. At this point, it was up in the air. Jaxston gave it a sniff; it didn’t smell bad or inedible; it could very well make him sick or worse. Did he want to risk it? His brow narrowed as he thought long and hard about it. He swallowed the lump in his throat; he had a gut feeling it was meant to be eaten and so promptly shoved the entire thing in his mouth. He gave a couple of chews before swallowing and making a face.
Ugh.
It had an awful taste and he felt a crazy whelming feel in his chest, as though there was a surge of power winding through his body. He stopped and clutched his stomach, cringing and wincing a bit in pain. Ginger came to a pause, noticing the sudden change in tune from the grass snake. She wandered over and patted him on the back, her other hand gripping Quixote’s tightly as the Axew gave the Snivy a curious look. "You okay there big head?" The Gengar asked, head tilting in curiosity.
Jaxston winced but refrained from shaking his head no. He didn’t want her to go alerting Reese (who didn’t seem to notice that his pokemon were falling behind) and get in trouble for hist potentially stupid mistake. Maybe it was poisoned? Oof, that wasn’t going to end well. Gulping a healthy amount of air, Jaxston straightened himself up. He was prepared to simply walk off the pain when it suddenly disappeared. His stomach unknotted, and he found that the queasiness had subsided. He felt… stronger? And lighter in a way. It was weird but… pleasant.
"I’m… I’m fine! Thanks, I think I just ate too fast," he gave the Gengar an awkward reassuring grin, rubbing the back of his head as well. Ginger frowned, staring hard at him before laughing and slapping him on the back, turning with Quixote still gripped like a mother walking with her child. "Whatever you say big head! Don’t go getting sick though, Rere won’t like it!" Right he… suspected as much.

☆ ☆【Phoenix couldn’t help but roll her eyes a bit as Klaus kept the jokes coming, the Zoroark was pretty much a bottomless pit of bad humor that could go on and on for hours if he had enough material to work with. And it didn’t help all that much that Kraven was also feeding into it a bit as well as she told Klaus to be careful, as fate could be quite the tough mistress.”Is that so? Well, I’ll admit I do like a lady who’s not afraid to take charge, if you catch my meaning~”the Zoroark chipped in with a sly grin and a chuckle, not wasting any time seizing the opportunity. Phoenix sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose as Klaus and Kraven laughed, the latter a bit softer this time since she was still hurting a bit if what happened earlier was any indication. ”Kraven, please… Don’t encourage him,” the redhead murmured as she shook her head, ”It’s only going to get worse from here, better to stop feeding the beast while there’s still time.” The Zoroark playfully stuck his tongue out at her, the dopey grin never once wavering from his face.”Oh don’t be such a party pooper, Phee~ At least Kraven actually has a good sense of humor, unlike a certain someone else I know,”he remarked with a light laugh, gently elbowing the redhead as he spoke the last part. Phoenix huffed at that, lightly shoving back at him as she chose to not dignify that statement with a response as the topic of conversation shifted. She was more than eager to get going, especially since Striation was still quite a ways away even though Nacrene was probably only a stone’s throw away.
Kraven didn’t seem to be opposed to backtracking either, which Phoenix was quite thankful for since she was still working on trying to catch up with her companion before she lagged too far behind. With a destination and semi-solid plan in mind, the trio set off for Nacrene together while Kraven made good on her word and did her best to summarize what had happened to her after they had separated temporarily in Castelia. The way the dark-haired girl held onto her side the whole way didn’t go unnoticed by Phoenix, though the redhead figured it was best left alone for now in favor of listening to Kraven’s story. She listened quietly and intently as their ebon-haired companion spoke, saying that she had been on her way back to Castelia after getting the badge in Nacrene when a large hole suddenly opened up in the middle of the forest and pulled her and another trainer into the Distortion World. Phoenix hummed in curiosity and wonder as her friend detailed the strange otherworldly place to the best of her ability, from the warped landscape to the odd ways the gravity and physics worked compared to reality. The redhead couldn’t help but chuckle a bit as Kraven described how the weird gravity worked in such a place, detailing a particular instance where she had been able to jump across a large gap and land fist-first into a group of thugs with relative ease. The rest of it sounded fairly mundane compared to the rest of then, though it was mostly just catching them up to speed on how Kraven had found her way out from the Distortion World which caused them to meet in the most unexpected way as they had witnessed only several minutes earlier.
”I see…” Phoenix said with a nod, still a bit confused about some aspects of the story but understanding the general gist of it as they made their way into Nacrene, ”I’ve heard and read a few things here and there about the Distortion World, not enough to really know all the ins-and-outs of it but enough to get a general feel overall, and your account certainly sounds pretty accurate based on what I’ve gathered. Although, I’ll admit it sounds rather odd for a portal to just spontaneously open of its own accord…” That part was what baffled her the most, admittedly, especially since the Distortion World wasn’t necessarily a place that could be easily accessed by just anyone, save for one specific Pokemon of course. She nodded as Kraven spoke up again, saying that thinking about it she couldn’t have been in the strange realm for at least more than a couple hours, but it felt like it took much longer than that for her to be able to get back. ”Well, from my understanding and based on what you told me, nothing is quite what it is in reality when it comes to the Distortion World, as if any sense of logic is thrown completely out the window. Without any stone-set laws of physics or nature to really govern how things work there, I doubt it’d be that farfetched to suggest that perhaps time and space are warped in odd ways in the Distortion World as well, because as far as we know you were only gone for… maybe at least an hour or so,” Phoenix suggested, hoping that it made some sense since she was going off of Kraven’s account and her own fairly limited knowledge.”The circumstances of how you were able to enter the Distortion World so spontaneously like that just seem strange as well,”Klaus input, having been listening quietly as well and putting the pieces together in his own head as well,”From my understanding, the Distortion World isn’t so easily accessed by just any one person or Pokemon. Very few can enter and leave the realm when they so choose to, mainly Giratina, the supposed ruler of the Distortion World.”
Phoenix had to admit Klaus brought up some good points too, especially since there were very few cases of Giratina establishing contact with humans, much less bringing them into the Distortion World… It didn’t make much sense, but it was tough to really think about it too much since she was still pretty hungry right now. ”I suppose we can just table this for now and focus on getting some food, hard to really think on an empty stomach,” the redhead spoke up, offering a small smile to Kraven as she gestured for the dark-haired girl to follow, ”If you’re not all that picky about where to go to eat, I know a diner that serves up all kinds of good stuff. Burgers and fries, sandwiches, seafood, and they have all-you-can-eat specials on certain days. It’s a pretty popular place around here, but it shouldn't be too busy around this time. We should be able to get in, grab a seat for ourselves, and place our orders before the rush hour really picks up.”】☆ ☆
