Personality: Kalei is a quiet, pacifistic griffin who, in all honesty, showed very little will to be assertive until his adolescence. He is, however, affectionate to many of those he knows, and protective over those he cares for, human and griffin alike. Though, honestly, he would be one of those who would advise to flee if one is able to, and get away without being hurt, then standing and fighting.
He is not the smartest of griffins, and usually takes a few repetitions to be able to remember entirely how to do something. However, he is observant, in the very least, the type that will sit quietly in the background and watch. This trait has actually been very handy to his owner, Deste, in the past. Another endearing trait is Kalei's loyalty - he attaches to friends easily, as he himself is relatively easy to get along with, and will remain steadfast with them through easy and rough times.
History: How, exactly, this griffin ended up with Deste as a chick is a bit of mystery. It has something to do with the man's former thievery, but possibly also included some sort of personal-gain motive. Regardless, Kalei remembers hatching in the company of his owner, and rather sees the human as not only his owner, but a parental figure.
When he was a chick, and up until his adolescence, Kalei was covered with yellow spots. Because of need, Deste often painted the feathers over to match the rest of Kalei's brown feathers, sometimes having to cover up his grey chest and belly as well. Kalei didn't enjoy this, but put up with it anyway. And, anyway, when he started staying at the home of his then-friend, and now-mate, Ma'at, the painting stopped.
Usually a delicate eater, Kalei grew up an average-sized griffin, with more of the slim build of a creature built for speed, not for muscle. As such, he is a fast, talented flier, and one of his favorite past-times is taking a weekly flight with Deste out over the countryside around Xuan. In fact, it is those flights that he believes built up the stamina he needed in order to win his mating flight with Ma'at.

Description: Naturally fair-skinned and fair-haired, he keeps the latter dyed black for purposes of profession (Update: Though, at the moment, it is at it's natural white-blond color). Strangely enough, at least when compared to other features, his eyes are as black as night. Of average height, his body is thin, deceptively hiding muscle and quick reflexes. While handsome (with both colors of hair), his tendency to scowl too much often interferes with that feature.
 Personality: While liking to believe he is cold and unfeeling, Deste is a very passionate person with a myriad of inner complexities. His mood may shift from hard to soft in a matter of seconds, black eyes usually betraying his emotions through icy darkness or liquid onyx. Though he does tend to show a very black heart to most of the world, he has a tender spot for an assorted few. Expressive with his words as well as his actions, he has a strange streak of loyalty and protectiveness in him - though this luxury is often hard-earned - that sometimes prevents personal logic and ambition from guiding him. Often, though, want for personal gain is held above all else, but few, if anyone, know what his exact goals in life are; secrecy is a golden rule in his book. Confident, yet not overtly cocky, he also has a degrading seed of self-worthlessness in his mind, which usually makes him call his life merely "existence." His hatred for the rich upper-class is cultivated from a past he'd rather not remember.
Background: Born a b*****d (illegitimate) son of an affair between the High King of a neighboring country and a lower-ranking duchess, his official last name since childhood is taken after his mother's name; Kestra. The boy grew up with the harassment and shame that often accompanies such a scandal, with the idea of having little to no self-worth beaten into his head daily. While he began to believe in that concept, he nevertheless developed a hatred for the world around him. In particular, a deepest loathing was reserved for the aristocracy that disgraced himself and his mother. But despite this rocky upbringing, he was kept relatively safe under the careful watch of the rest of his family, who surprisingly harbored no ill-will towards him or his mother for the obvious "disgrace." But eventually, his growing discontentment with the society he lived him drove him, in his mid-teenage years, to try and do something to shift the cards of power; he became a thief and assassin, a dagger-for-hire, in order to manipulate and shame the families that had always tormented him. By the age of 19 he was wanted for several counts of heavy thievery and murder as well as terrorism. At the age of 20, he fled his home country and headed south, hoping to find refuge with relatives.
Recent History: Deste, after some interesting encounters, came to know the daughter of a highly influential politician of the city of his current residence. Iris Nefretiri continued to hold his fascination for months, finding her character to be astoundingly different from most noble women that he had come to know. Comfortable that she didn't judge him on his circumstance or his profession, he allowed himself to become well-acquainted with her, using her home as a safe-house from his forays in the city.
During one of his jobs in another city, Deste was reunited - forcibly by the other party - with a face from his past. Lenore Rosaylen, a cousin to him by blood, returned with him to Xuan after his business, and her's, was complete. Lenore was staying in Xuan with her grandmother, an ambassador to the country from Albion, a neighboring country and the birthplace of both Lenore and Deste.
A short time passed, and Deste was hired out for a job that was set-up to get him caught and killed. Thinking that he had been betrayed by Iris - whom he had fallen in love with - he fled to the refuge of his great-aunt's home. Iris eventually confronted him, trying to tell him that her own hated brother had plotted to pull them apart for the sake of the reputation of her family. The thief would have none of it; half of him in disbelief and the other half knowing that a relationship with the woman would never do anything but put her in danger, Deste disappeared for a time to parts unknown.
Six months after his abrupt departure, he allowed himself to be caught during a raid, and he was sentenced to death for his various crimes. Iris once more confronted him - through the bars of a jail cell, to her chagrin - and the couple parted with the knowledge that each still loved the other.
On his execution date, Deste was about to be hanged at his public sentence when his half-brother appeared to bail him out - Dante Esterylen, first in line for the royal throne of Albion. Irritated, but never one to be begrudge assistance in family matters, Dante also heralded his brother as the newest prince to the Esterylen line; while Deste was away, the high king - the brothers' father - had married Deste's mother, making her the new queen, and him a legitimate son of the throne.
More time passed, Deste returning to Albion, but ever thinking about Iris and restlessly hoping to return to Xuan to talk with her. Iris' father was expecting a proposal, and when the former thief finally did return to the city, along with his brother and brother's fiancee Norene, the question came. At present, Deste and Iris are to be engaged to marry, but the ceremony is unscheduled until certain dues and reparations from his thieving days are paid.

Description: Tall and leanly muscled, his paleness in skin comes mostly from not seeing enough sun - considering that where he lives sees very little of it - but it is not an unhealthy paleness. He is much like Deste, in a sense, or perhaps Deste is more like him (being the older brother and all), in the fact that they share not only similar complexion, but shocking white-blond hair as well. These traits are somewhat a mark of the royal bloodline, along with Dante's eye-color of deep, reflective blue. His features are stronger than those of his younger half-brother, and the general expression of his handsome face shows his more easy-going personality.
 Personality: Dante has many sides to him, but in general has a very even temper and a humorous streak always reflecting in his bemused expressions. He is easy to get along with, though there are those who would be perplexed at his jovial personality - it is almost unbefitting for one of his rank. He has a charming, yet has an almost overtly playful air about him. It is not to say, though, that the man doesn't know how to command an audience. He is perceptive and knowledgeable beneath the layers of amiable personality, and can be very sultry when need be. It is hard to raise his anger - though not necessarily the shadow of irritation - and more difficult still to make him show that anger. Much the well-to-do type of person, he does care deeply for those he knows well, or any person dear to those he does know well.
Background: The eldest - and up until recently, only - son of the High King and late Queen of the country of Albion, making him heir to his father's throne. Raised in a strict manner in preparation for his ascent to his future, he is, really, everything that a Prince should be - handsome, well-liked, courageous, and commandeering. Surprisingly enough, he rather enjoys the status, finding the hypocrisy of much of the rest of his class more amusing than irritating. Luckily enough, much of the rest of his class also respect him for his fairness, and though corruption has its nest in Albion's political structure - like every other government - no one seems to be looking to usurp Dante from his future position.
Though, strangely enough, the King seems to take large gambles in sending his son to foreign countries as an ambassador, putting him into a position of greater risks of assassination. The son honestly doesn't mind, however; he rather enjoys being able to get away from sunless weather, especially when he is allowed to bring his fiancee - and current future queen of Albion - of 7 years, Norene Rosaylen.
In his childhood, he and Deste were surprisingly close. It was a relationship of that unique type of rivalry that only a bond between brothers could create - Dante never quite hated his younger sibling for the scandal that he learned about only when he entered his teens, when Deste and his mother left the main royal court to escape persecution. He remained fond of his half-relation, though, and, despite the fact that his brother later turned rogue by his own free will, Dante continued to support him, placing a discreet watch on his movements, including arranging for the move of Noria and Lenore Rosaylen as ambassadors to the country Deste had fled to.
Since then, he has been keeping a watchful eye on his sibling from a distance, though has often wondered at a way to get him to drop the nasty thieving habit.
Recent History: When Dante's mother, the late Queen Anniea, passed away, his father took a new wife, a woman who he had had an affair with years before. It was scandalous, though the prince, after some pensive and sardonic brooding, went on with his life. After all, he could not resent the mother of the only sibling he really had. Besides, as far as he was concerned, his father had been true to his honor, instead of being swayed by political situations. That, and perhaps now, he thought, Deste would consent to returning to Albion.
A few months after the ascension of Kestra to the new Queen of the country, Dante was sent to resolve a border dispute between Albion and a neighboring country to the northwest in the city of Ilios, when word that his younger half-sibling, Deste, had been caught and was being sentenced to die by hanging. Immediately, upon earlier orders years before to possibly find and retrieve the wayward noble, the prince set off to the country of griffins in the south. He arrived within minutes of Deste's hanging - the thief literally had the noose around his neck - and managed to free his brother after a bit of negotiating.
He has since then been in and out of the country, returning to Albion often, but seems to have formed the habit of sticking close to his younger sibling. Besides, his new pet, a griffin named Eranthe, and his affianced and much adored Norene are currently in the country, so, much to the dismay of Deste, the heir to the Albinian throne makes his presence quite well-known.

Background: Born the youngest daughter and last child of the current generation of the Rosaylen family, she lives with her grandmother, Noria Rosaylen, in a small estate on the outskirts of Xuan City. A griffin breeder and basic trainer - she bred her own griffin, Auster, with hopes of beginning a domesticated line of the rare crested variety - she is also a bit of a business woman and politician under her grandmother's command. She has close ties to the high royal family of a neighboring country, and has personally known Deste since childhood. She holds somewhat of a one-sided love-hate affection for him, though romantic feelings - if there ever were any - seem to be on hold for the moment.

Description: Standing at moderate height - somewhat tall for a female, actually - Shane pities herself for her tom-boyish figure, but is able to retain a charmingly pretty look even without the feminine body parts to go with attraction. Her golden-red hair is slightly tinted with brown, and these locks waves around in front of odd, mischievous purple-hued blue eyes. A bemused expression is a common mold for her features, though she can be very openly expressive, and others can tell what she is thinking or feeling just by studying her face.
Clothing-wise, she dresses to make a statement, though there are probably very few who can discern any sort of meaning from her mix-and-matched fashions; she wears both male and female attire, in varying shades of purples, reds, and offendingly bright greens.
The most common piece of attire, however, is a woman's corset that she wears on the outside of her shirt, and backwards so that the ties are on the front. If confronted about this, she will either wail about her lack of a bust, or explain that the corset is there to give her one. Or both. Skirts worn over pants is also a common sight to see on her, though Shane's favorite accessory is possibly a feather danging from an earring at her ear. The feather is black, with the tip of it fading into a light blue - a wingfeather of Zephan's, perhaps?
Personality: An eccentric nutcase of the most lovable type, Shane can flip from being overtly friendly, to annoyingly clingy, to pensively serious, to blissfully happy in the matter of seconds. Her base temperament is hard to pin down, and not many people, even those closest to her, can to completely predict her actions. However, for the most part, she is cheerful and carefree, and her habit of making outrageous and off-topic statements seems to be rather natural. Or, these habits could be a sign of apparent lack of an attention span.
If it weren't for some of her bluntly offending habits - clinging, the sexual innuendos, the ability to somehow tie most things to alcohol - Shane would be a very likable and entertaining person to be around. There are those who can like her normal moods, however, and people who would value her trait of saying whatever is on her mind with only cursory consideration (basically, wearing her heart on her sleeve). In other areas, she is loyal and willing to help those she likes, and she likes many, even if these many find her irritating - Deste, for example.
One facet of her personality very rarely explored is the fact that Shane seems to fear very few things. The sight of blood has no effect on her poise, she actually seems to like arachnids, heights are fun, and darkness doesn't seem to daunt her. She is, however, frightened by one thing. Though, it is not so much 'what' scares her, but rather 'who.' Her reference to this 'who' might be found in a common saying: "Anger and Pain, thy name is woman."
Background: Shane rarely talks about her past, though she seems to have a close connection with Deste. It is unclear where she was born, as apparently she was born on the border between two countries. Other than that, put shortly, she has a deceased mother and father, a still-living sibling, and a deep, dark secret that very few know about. It is unclear how, when, or where she acquired her griffin, Zephan.
Oh, and she's always been very fond of alcohol - and some other interesting 'mentionables' - since her first experiences when she was 17.
Recent History: A relatively new resident to the city of Xuan, her explanation for coming to the country and that particular city is somewhere along the lines of 'following her destiny.' Taking up a job as a bartender in one of the more upscale taverns in the richer part of the city, she also seems to be working an underground job of the coordination of buying and selling black market products.
She has accomplished her goal of reestablishing contact with a one Deste Kestrysen, her "Princeling."
Just recently, she bought an old, run-down building in the south corridors of the city, and seems to be plotting to turn it into a bar/coordination house of her own. There doesn't seem to be an explanation as to why...and there probably isn't, other than the fact that Shane wants to name something "The Charming Penguin." Few people this far south probably know what a penguin is, anyway, and Shane does enjoy seeing the perplexed looks on peoples' faces.

Description: A pretty face beneath a sea of thick, red-gold hair. Cadhla may not be drop-dead beautiful, but she knows how to work every part of her body in order to produce such an effect. She is very well-endowed with an overall voluptuous figure to boot, and rather long, seductive legs. One look in her purple-tinged eyes would tell anyone that she quite damn proud of her physical attractiveness.
Cadhla would not call herself immodest in reference to her clothing style, but in many ways she dresses to attract attention. Mostly, this means attention from men. She enjoys wearing comfortable, loose clothing, that while not necessarily completely revealing, most often does its intended purpose. Oh, and usually, the skirts and tops she wears have the ability to come off her body very easily whenever she has need of them to do so.
As soft as her curves make her seem, the woman is not particularly strong and does not know how to handle herself in a fight. But, as she likes to say, that's what she has her men for.
Personality: In general, Cadhla is a rather caring and sweet person, if one could look past the risque comments and gestures. Well-tuned to higher society and perceptive in her interactions, she can, nonetheless, be caught off guard if something happens that she was not planning on. She masks surprise well, and there are few who can really tell what she is thinking at all times; her body language does not always convey what is on her mind, though it often does say something about what she really wants.
She would never willingly choose to hurt people, but there are a few who have seen her viciously vindictive side. Childish in this sense, Cadhla will brood, bicker, and glare until proper amends have been made to any wrong done against her, although this behavior is mostly reserved for her younger sibling and those that she is either interested in or likes very, very much.
Likewise, if she is interested in a certain person, she can be charismatic and talkative, but oddly enough can be rather shy when alone in the presence of complete strangers, should she not have any reason to want to get to know them.
Background: A bit of an enigma as far as personal background goes, the one thing she knows for sure is that she is one year older than her sibling, Shane.

Terms and Other Mentionable Items

Some terms for you all, in case something above doesn't make sense.
AlbionThe country where virtually all of PR's [human] characters were born. It lies to the north of the Gryps country, the border in between the two marked by a wide river. Past this landmark, after a day or so ride's worth of plains and farmland, lies the encasement of much of the rest of Albion's territory; a mountain range shelters the inner valleys where most of the country's people live.
The weather in the region is inclement for much of the year - mixes of rain and snow, depending on temperature - with little sunlight or warmth even in the summer months. Many people speculate that the lack of said sunlight makes people who hail from this area grow up, generally, with pale skin and light-colored hair. Dante and Deste are prime examples and supporting cases for such theories.
Albion is relatively small on the scale of the amount of land under her control, but her value lies in the ore-rich mountains that take up much of her territory. The iron ore that comes from these ranges are well-sought after for it's high quality, making iron the first of five tradeables that the country's people use in bartering. Others include black opals, gold, and silver, though these are considerably more rare, and much of it stays in circulation strictly among the nobles of Albion.
The last item of interest is bested only by the iron trade - bolts of wool cloth traded out of the mountains are extremely popular. The sheep raised in the region must grow particularly thick coats in order to keep warm, thus the wool gathered from the animals are particularly popular for making winter clothing in Albion herself and in her neighboring countries.

RoyaltyEsterylen: The surname of the current head family of Albion, of which Dante is the heir. Ester means star, with the -ylen at the end denoting noble origin or royal birth. Literally, Esterylen could be translated as "House of the Stars." The head of the house, and thus High King of Albion, is the father of Dante and Deste, Darius Esterylen.
Rosaylen: The surname of the family that Norene and Lenore were born into, the latter being the current heir, and current head-of-family being their grandmother, Noria. Rosa means rose, with -ylen denoting high noble origin or royal birth. It can be literally translated as the "House of the Roses." Kestra, Deste's mother, was once a member of this House. At present, the Rosaylen family is a member of the Council of Houses.
Circylen: The surname of the family Alexandria Circylen was born into. Their name is derived from the word circe, meaning sun, with -ylen denoting high noble origin or royal birth. The "House of the Sun" is a member of the Council of Houses.
Commoner
Kestrysen: Deste's former surname; his legal one is now Esterylen, though he tends to still refer to himself by this last name. Those who are born illegitimately (without a legal father, in general) take the first name of his or her mother. Kestra is the mother's name, in this case, and is with the suffix of -ysen. The suffix -ysen is generally used in the surname of a family who is in the "outer ring" of Albion's nobility.
Tespia: Shane's surname (or at least one of her many), it is the average "commoner" last name.
