Though her body is petite, it's very fit from all the walking she does. She hasn't relied on animals to get her places for a very long time. Likes: Solitude. Work. Studying history or artifacts. Base Traits: Innocent. Stubborn. Adaptable. Impatient. Active. Proud. Respectful. Resourceful. Feisty. Personality: Maia grew up often alone. Though she lived for most of her younger years in a village and had other children in the area to play with, she would choose to spend her time on her own, exploring the world as far as she was allowed to by her father. She never seemed all that interested in meeting with the other younglings. Didn't seem to like talking to the adults, either. Most parents would have encouraged differently, trying to force some sort of social interaction on their child, but Pand seemed fine enough in letting his daughter isolate herself from everyone else around her. What did he care? It kept her occupied and seemed to keep her happy. And, most importantly of all, it kept her distracted so that he could spend his days working on his various inventions. When the two of them moved out to live by themselves out in the woods, so far from the village that Maia never saw anyone unless they made the journey to the home on purpose, the youngling was beside herself with excitement. Here was a giant, new world for her to explore without all the annoying questions from other people. No one to bother her or interrupt her in her adventures. What could be better?
Of course, living like this, so isolated and away from everything, isn't good on the development. If Maia was an introvert before, she was almost a hermit now, growing more and more dependent on herself for everything. Even now, as an adult, the Shifter is still more likely to wander out into the forest than seek out companionship of any kind. Not that she has trouble talking to others when she has to. She just chooses not to. When forced to, she can be polite enough. Respect for those older than herself was always something she followed. However, she has no problem laying on the snark or even becoming quite rude if she feels the other person isn't respecting her as she feels she deserves to be. She doesn't care how her words might affect you. It's not like you're someone who will be in her life for more than a hour, at most, anyway.
Maia has hardened her heart against the intrusion of others, putting up many, many walls to keep others away purely by instinct at this point. She doesn't seek the company of others and never stops to consider if she even wants to. I wonder how she would react if she was forced into situations where she will have the opportunity to work on relationships and connections. A time will come soon for this. Hardly the more affectionate of people, it will be interesting to see her navigate feelings of friendship and perhaps more in the future, when friendship itself is such a foreign feeling.
Facts - Is very good with directions without a map when outside. Her brain easily remembers small details about the landscape once she's been through it at least a few times. Still has the potential to get lost if she's in unfamiliar territory. - Can be easily flustered by the sight of too much skin. Or compliments. - Has a large personal bubble. - Panics under pressure.

★History★ ~~~~~
Up To Prentice Maia had a typical family. A loving father who did the best he could for her and a cozy life. Nothing really to complain too much about. Maybe that explained the thirst for adventure she'd had ever since she could remember.
As soon as the young Shifter could hold a shovel, she was digging. Digging everywhere. In her family's yard. In her neighbor's yard. In the community areas. In the forest. Everywhere. Maia was just so curious about what might be hiding underneath the earth that she couldn't stop digging. She annoyed everyone with it and there were always numerous complaints to her father about what precious flower she'd ripped out in order to have room to dig or the size of the hole in a neighbor's back yard. No amount of scolding or punishing could seem to make her stop. She was determined that there were treasures hidden just out of sight in the ground and she would find them. So what was the best course of action to deal with such a child?
Move out into the forest. Far from anyone else, so she could enjoy her treasure hunting in peace. It went well with her father's plans, anyway. He was never the social type. Aside from her mother, who had died of an illness when she was still a baby, he had very little friends and never seemed the worst for wear over it. He was also a bit eccentric himself. It wasn't difficult to see where Maia got it from.
Pand liked to invent. Unless he needed to leave for necessities, he never left the house, most often found in his room, tinkering over something he would than find someone to test out for him. This would often end in failure, with an annoyed neighbor at the mess the product had produced from it going haywire. None of his neighbors missed him when he moved the family out into the forest.
At first, Maia was excited about the new possibilities of what she could find and all the places she could explore. Eventually, she started to grow lonely. There were no other people out here for her to interact with. She felt like she'd been everywhere and had it mapped out in her head for miles around. Pand was even more locked away inside his workshop. Where once she had had a loving father, trying to do the best he could do for his only child, now she had a neglectful parent, too focused on his own things to notice when she put a plate of food under his face. Out here in the wilderness, he could concentrate on his different projects without the distractions of other people. But Maia wanted to go back. He refused. He'd make it big one day, than they could live wherever they wanted to. She just had to be patient. Maia didn't want to be patient. She was almost a woman fully grown and she was restless.
And so, one day, she packed up her essentials and left, leaving behind a note tucked under the door of Pand's workshop, explaining all the different things that needed to be done around the house in the hopes he wouldn't let himself just waste away in his workshop now that no one else was around to watch out for him. One day she would return. For now, there was a whole wide world to see and she was excited to see where it took her!
Prentice Maia took to exploring the rainforest around her, collecting various strange things she found along the way. Eventually she found Neued and tried to get her different things appraised by an old Shifter named Patri. A grumpy, no-nonsense kind of woman who wouldn't listen to Maia when she said she thought she'd found something good due to her young age and lack of experience. After one such encounter, Maia left the shop and threw the piece of old pottery she had been holding away. It was picked up by a middle-aged Wind male named Chiro, a respected Treasure Hunter in the city. He disagreed with Patri, finding potential in what Maia had thrown away. He offered to look over more of what she had found, that she had at the small camp she had set up just outside the city. Thrilled with the prospect of a job in the field she wanted, Maia agreed. He found her stuff acceptable and employed her as a field worker. She would continue to explore and hunt for different things to take back to him, where he would appraise them, sell them, and give her a cut of it.
Even so, Patri still wouldn't accept anything Maia directly tried to hand her, continuing to say she lacked the experience to know what was good and what was trash. Not even the backing of Chiro's reputation could help her there.
One day, while she was returning from a recent treasure hunt, her bag full of potential artifacts and minerals, Maia encountered a theft at the market. A tall woman, pale with blue hair, had stolen a fruit and was sprinting down the street towards her. Everyone else was ducking for cover or jumping out of the way, but she was far too startled to do anything but watch as the Aishan woman of an unknown Tribe ran towards her, dropping some of the fruit into her arms. When Maia was told to run by her, she, without really realizing what she was doing, followed the woman down a side street. Down a few alleyways. Until she thought they had escaped any consequences. Unknown to the two of them, they had not gone unnoticed and were captured not soon after, knocked unconscious and waking up in a strange basement. The Aishan woman, whose name Maia never got but whose face she would never forget, escaped through a small window that was too high for an Earthling to reach. Maia, now feeling defeated, sat back down to accept her fate.
But fate had other plans. An Ice girl had been watching the whole process and followed to the very house the other two had been taken to. With bag in hand, Elka struck up a bargain with Maia to share half of her next trip's profit with her, in exchange for her help to freedom. Not knowing any other way of getting out, Maia agreed. Elka strode towards the door, knocked, and bailed Maia out, offering the men half of what was inside the bag. Enraged, the Shifter took back her bag and returned to the rainforest, to once more fill it back up. This would be her last trip to her campsite. By now, she had been working for Chiro for a few years and felt it was about time to fully move into Neued, into a small house of her own.
Collector Here Maia remained for years, doing nothing more exciting than finding the stray random artifact which she brought back to Chiro for inspection. She never questioned what he did with any of the things she found. Nor did she stick around long enough to see. A few things she kept for herself, storing them away inside her small and mostly unfurnished home. She met some people on her travels. Helped a few with the harvests and a man lost in a raging river. She was fairly content with her lot in life to slowly explore Jauhar. Never once did she ever contemplate what might be out there beyond the borders of her home.
That was until she met the two who would change her life forever.
While doing her usual thing of exploring the forest and picking up anything she found looked interesting, Maia met with Kieran and Kaimana, a Yaeli and Matori pair on a mission to find a rare flower. Though she didn't hit it off very well with Kaimana, she got along quite fine with Kieran, the older man even offering to take her with them when they travelled to Oba to assist in some digs there. Maia realized that what she had been doing was small compared to what she could be doing, and took up the offer with little hesitation. She returned to Neued and packed up her things, selling what she wouldn't need. She felt like she was finally being allowed to spread her wings. This was her chance to really make something of herself one day!

Pand :: NPC, Father, Shifter, 40-50 Maia doesn't really have the best relationship with her father. He was super neglectful growing up, both to her and to himself. While he did move out into the forest to give her the space she needed to destroy the earth looking for treasure, he also did it to give himself the privacy to work on his inventions without the noise of a village all around him. But without that constant noise to remind him others existed, he'd often shut himself away in his office, ignoring his own needs as well as his daughter, leaving Maia to grow up to become self-sufficient. She took care of everything in and around the house, along with reminding her father to take care of himself, entering the room to give him food a few times a day. When she eventually grew tired of living like that, she wrote Pand a note and left, never returning. Even to this day, she is unclear of what happened to her father and is afraid to look into it.

Chiro :: NPC, Boss, Wind, 40-50 A retired Treasure Hunter who now runs a pawn shop/appraisal business in Neued. He got Maia started in the business by offering to buy whatever she finds while she's out exploring. She never thought much of it at the time and remained with him for years, until she was picked up around the age of 22 for real archeology work in Oba. They've left on good terms.
Kaimana :: Water, 4th Stage Coincidental meeting, Maia tagged along to help with an assignment to find a rare flower that only bloomed at night. She took an instant disliking to Kaimana, finding him noisy and condescending. Not the best first impression, probably on both sides as she was no less snarky. Perhaps as she gets to know him better and grows more used to his behavior, she'll start to look at him more like an annoying older brother she never had. Or maybe she'll always think of him as a bit of a blow-hard.
Kieran :: Yaeli, 4th Stage Coincidental meeting, Maia tagged along to help with an assignment to find a rare flower that only bloomed at night, under a full moon. She highly respects Kieran, looking at him as an aspiring person who knows so much about the world she wants to become a part of. She agreed to join him and Kaimana when they left for Oba to help in the digs.
Acquaintances
Esmeray :: Shifter, Prentice A friendly younger woman who showed Maia around the small village she had stopped by to rest and restock. She remained long enough to spend a little time helping Esmeray with the harvest, enjoying a pleasant chat before she eventually moved on to continue exploring the forests of Jauhar.
Omari :: Fire/Water, 2nd Stage Maia met Omari during an event held at the academy, a celebration of its expansion and a way for the newly hired treasure hunters to also mingle together. The two had chosen to hide away for a moment of peace in the nearby museum, where the hybrid quickly struck up a conversation with the Shifter over the different artifacts in the cases on display, going so far as to invite her to look at notes from the dig sites and the different wildlife in the area. Maia is always intrigued by anyone who seems to share such a similar passion to herself. Though she's not sure what to make of his compliments towards her. She's never really had to deal with that before from someone and finds it quite embarrassing.

Patri :: NPC, ??, Shifter, 50-70 A contrary old antique store owner who doubles as a well known appraiser of all things. Try as Maia will, Patri will never give her or the things she's found the time of day.
