Treasure hunting in Oba was a far different experience than any that Briallen had been through before. The jungles of Jahaur despite the humidity had offered some solace with the various rainy seasons, the steaming water as it hit the giant crystal trees still allowing her to breathe and relax a bit more, while the desert offered no such mercy. Instead it was just so much sand all over her clothing and in her face if not well everywhere else. Even once she adjusted to the brighter sunlight, the Alkidike wearing a headscarf to protect her sensitive eyes from the brilliant rays, Briallen was still coughing from the explosions of sand that hit her whenever they moved something within the ruins. At first she had enjoyed that fiery sunset that she witnessed the first night in camp and thought the desert where they would be residing for the next few weeks that was over a day’s ride from the capital city of Sulburi was beautiful if not strange. But as the treasure hunters settled into their encampment, the various tents decorating the desert dunes with specks of white and color, Briallen quickly learned that sand could be quite invasive if one was not truly prepared for it. Even now she was dusting her clothing off, the cotton material of her top light and loose to allow breathing in comparison to the hunting leathers she had grown accustomed to wearing on Chiume, and Briallen couldn’t help fidgeting a little bit as she waited on the other treasure hunter who was supposed to accompany her to the ruins today. It was just supposed to be a simple excursion to see what the northern cliffs of the desert held while others continued to work on digging out the main site, Briallen figuring that she could use the chance to stretch her legs before they found something else in the ruins to take everyone’s attention, including her own, for the next few days. But simple excursion or not, she was more than ready to go just to see what they could find.
It had been discussed the previous night what smaller parties could be formed to go explore the edges of the ruins and Briallen, being somewhat more accustomed to traveling and a seasoned fighter, was a good choice for exploring the upper stretch of desert in case there was any trouble with wild beasts or the like. Others were going to different edges of the ruins, exploring what they could as well and the plan was to meet back up by tomorrow evening to see if any of the pairs had found something of interest for the rest of the party to investigate. Still, despite her confidence from earlier the Alkidike couldn’t help frowning as she continued dusting at her leggings. Seriously, how did one enjoy living in a sea of sand like this or better yet how did sand move into things so easily? Still, the thrill of treasure hunting did nothing to deter her and so here she was waiting patiently for her companion with necessities packed on the pair of xaraan waiting next to her. They would need a lot of rope and such to climb the desert cliffs towards the northern area, some of the paths too narrow for most mounts to ride comfortably in but enough for a pair of earthlings…or rather in this case an earthling and an Alkidike to climb. They would need to make camp somewhere as well, just in case they couldn't make it back before sunset and so Briallen had packed a smaller tent. It would be simple enough to find a safe spot for camping, leaving the xaraan there while they explored the nearby cliffs once they arrived. She was curious though about who would be paired with her today, Briallen still learning many of the other party members' names as she had only recently joined the group herself before coming out to the main site.

The young Shifter took a gulp from the waterskin hooked to the side of her backpack, making sure not to take more than was necessary to sustain herself the rest of the way. She was keenly aware of the desert all around her, something she had never not thought about since coming to Oba. Where before she could drink as often as she pleased in the forests of Jauhar and refill her waterskin from the many brooks or rivers in the area, here water was far more precious. It had taken a while to get used to it, her body often crying out for it as she refused it what it wanted, unsure if she would be dooming herself in the future. Now Maia thought she had more of a grasp on it and even had multiple hanging off her bag. Just in case. It wouldn't do to end her career before it even had a chance.
Thinking about that always made her feel so foolish. How silly she had been back in Jauhar. Though she did get to explore many different places and knew Jauhar as well as the back of her hand, it didn't change the fact she was like a little girl playing at being an adult. Now, in this very moment, she was something more. Maia finally felt like she was becoming worthy of the title. She was unsure who exactly she had been told to go meet, but she hardly felt worried. Little could shake this woman's confidence.
Well, maybe the sight of an Alkidike as she neared the meeting spot. The Shifter stopped for a moment, staring. She had thought she'd left them behind. Though she knew they traveled, she still hadn't expected to see one out in the desert, of all places. Didn't they like trees or something? Nonetheless, this was her partner. There was no backing out, now. They were on neutral ground. She closed the distance and waved her hand in some semblance of a greeting. "Are you, um....Waiting for me?"

Admittedly Briallen had not been expecting a shifter out of all people to appear today, but once she realized that she was also staring the warrior snapped to attention and moved her own hand in a wave. "I believe so. Going to the northern cliffs, right?" Briallen offered with a smile, "Wasn't expecting an Aishan, were you? I wasn't expecting a shifter either, to be honest. Are you accustomed to the desert?" She moved to look over the supplies packed on the xaraan, double checking everything before they departed away from the main camp and towards the wilderness. She just hoped her earthling companion would be alright with her company, as awkward as it was adjusting to the Oban crew and Matori that were mixed into it the idea of working alongside someone else from Jahaur was a bit interesting. Briallen had been mostly raised on Chiume, but she was not blind to the tensions that still lingered with some of the Alkidike who lived in the deeper jungles and once fought harshly against the earthlings there for territory.
"I'm still adjusting to the area myself though I don't know if I'll ever fully get used to so much sand. Do you also find it in everything even in the tent? I think I might as well build a bed out of sand at this point." Briallen continued, trying to lighten the mood a bit before pausing and looking back towards her companion. "My name is Briallen, by the way. I'm new to the crew and I'm looking forward to working with you." She hoped that didn't seem too awkward, the Aishan even looking back towards the speckled xaraan she was riding for support. All the creature did though was tilt its head before going back to nipping at its side to chase off an itch while they prepared to depart. Thanks buddy. Briallen thought with some amusement before looking back towards the shifter. "Anyways I'm ready when you are."

Darn. She was almost hoping to be told no, that she had gotten the wrong person. That her own partner was further up somewhere, hidden behind some large rock and thus out of sight. Than she chided herself. Neutral ground. You're a smart woman. Why would an Alkidike go all the way to the desert to cause trouble? They had nothing to do with the Obans. Not that Maia had a very strong opinion about Alkidike. Or any Aishan in general. But growing up deep in the forest, they had been used to scare her so she wouldn't wander too far away from the cabin. Which worked in most cases. She had never seen any until she was much older. Still, it was sometimes hard to let go of childhood fears.
Maia stepped up to one of the beasts, stretching out a hand to pat it. Animals also wasn't something she was all too familiar with, always preferring to travel by foot. Than again, she was able to go where she wanted, when she wanted. Now that she was more properly employed somewhere, things would naturally be more strict. At least she assumed so.
"No. Can't say I was." The shifter looked at the other woman, blinking her pale eyes a few times before continuing. "Least of all expected to find one in the desert. What brought you out here?" She found she was genuinely curious about the question. Normally, Maia didn't care too much about someone's backstory or where they were headed. Maybe she was feeling a bit of a homesick connection to someone else who was familiar with the giant trees of Jauhar. "A little bit. It's quite different from, uh...Trees." She shifted the bag on her shoulder and stepped closer to the xaraan she assumed was her responsibility. "I'm good to go."
