Maia 1 The desert seemed to stretch in all directions for endless miles. It was still a bit overwhelming any time Maia left her tent. It was a comfort when the opening was stationed to look out at some structure, maybe another tent or a set of ruins. Anything to break up that horizon that for so long had been covered by trees before. It was still hard to believe she was even out here, so far from home. Would her father be proud of her, if he knew? Would he have even been able to take himself away form his inventions long enough to consider it? She didn't even know how he'd reacted to her leaving home with nothing but a note. She'd heard no word from, or about, him ever since. As if neither of them had ever existed in the same place.
No. Bad thoughts. Time moved on. She should be looking forward, focusing on her slowly budding career. The thought of her father had long since turned into a dull ache, easily forgotten in the excitement of everything else.
Like today! It was time to start her day. In one swift motion, she let down her hair. It fell to her waist, where it sat for only a few seconds before she was piling it back up into a messy bun at the base of her neck. It was time to get to work! She had a pair of daggers tucked safely away in a box nearby she wanted to look more closely at.

Hoshi Lockhart I had this sitting in google docs and didn't realize I never posted here, ahahaha. x.x The sun over the desert dunes was a blinding sight to behold, the beauty of it like an amber stone amongst a background of never ending blue. However, the scorching rays gleamed so brilliantly that Omari had to wear a scarf around his head to guard his eyes as he travelled over the empty expanse. If not he was afraid that he would go blind, even if it was a bit of a dramatic reaction to things on this already rough venture. Even his xaraan seemingly had no mercy as every bump of the path was felt by Omari as he was bounced around by the mount that chased after his companions. It was the best and quickest way to travel though to this particular piece of desert from Sulburi, especially for someone like Omari who tried to make most of his time while balancing his roles as head of the academy and as one of the sponsors to these digs. Thankfully though he managed to stay on the xaraan and eventually arrived with the group at the northern encampment where the treasure hunters had settled, the area somewhat protected by the looming shadows from the northern mountains that separated another oasis from the wilderness here. It was enough to allow him to loosen the scarf that was tangled around his face, Omari opting to keep it loosely there even as he dismounted on shaky legs. The typically more elegant attire of the dancer was covered up by more casual wear for once, his loose linen clothing perfect to fight the desert heat with the golden embroidery of his scarf being the most intricate thing that he wore for this particular outing. Despite his shaky movements, Omari somehow managed to regain his grace as one of the explorers on site greeted him in Kieran’s stead and took his belongings to the guest tent where he would be staying the night. Others would be coming to visit as well, sponsors and the like, but that would be tomorrow and Omari wanted a day to actually explore the place by himself and check out everything first.
And explore he would. At least that was what he wanted to do as he awkwardly walked about the encampment, trying to avoid the buzz that there was a sponsor in their midst even as he tried to blend in and not attract notice from those who failed to recognize him. “But where do I even begin?” Omari questioned, turning around as he surveyed the nearby tents and looked towards the ruins that surrounded them here. Apparently there was even more in the mountains nearby, but he didn’t think he dared to venture out that far…at least not yet.

Maia 2 It never slipped Maia's notice, the whispers going on around her. As much as she tried her best to steer clear of it. What did it have to do with her? Nothing. She was here to assist in the digs, not to socialize with a sponsor. Probably some high class noble who felt the same way about socializing with the diggers. Wasn't that how most of them behaved? At least from what she had heard from the common folk in the market streets of the city while she had been idling around, waiting for her chance to get out into the desert. How they mostly paid little mind to the rest of them, sitting comfortably in their mansions and manors. Likely this person was out here to scope the artifacts and other treasures that had been found, make sure they were getting the most out of their investment. Like she cared. So long as she was being funded to find ancient things, that was all that mattered to her.
Though it was awful difficult to ignore some of the rumors when occasionally, they were whispered directly into her ear. The Shifter swatted at a most recent colleague who had stopped, thinking to engage her in some gossip. Irritating. Gossip was for the bored who had nothing productive to do. Not like she did. What awaited her left a small smile on her face as she made her way through the camp, her eyes barely registering everyone else around her who she assumed was going about their own jobs. Only some weren't. She spotted a couple of diggers idling alongside a tent, having a deep discussion with their heads together. If she had control over the operation...
Her train of thought paused as her dark eyes moved back to continue on her way, when they stopped on someone else. It wasn't uncommon for her to be unaware of her co-workers, not being very social. But there was something about this one that she couldn't quite put her finger on. The fact he wasn't an Oban, at least not fully that she could see, was not the strange part. It was the feeling that she knew him from somewhere. Even stranger was that she didn't think it was from the current camp.
So confused by the feeling of familiarity, that Maia hadn't noticed she had stopped to stare at him. It also wasn't uncommon for her to forget names. But faces she usually remembered, even if she forgot from where.
