Zasha prided herself on a normally sunny disposition..for the most part. But today she was just angered beyond belief and she wasn’t sure what the cause for it was exactly. Nothing was different, nothing had changed and perhaps that was part of the problem. She felt stuck in one spot and was eager to do something to fix that. It was time to chose once and for all what she wanted to be. Her feet took her all unknowing to a door that her subconcious must have noticed on the thousands of trips past this particular place. A place of magic. Home to someone who was a sorcerer. She had thought long and hard at night about what she wanted to be; healer, elementalist or something else. Eventually it came down to what she could accomplish with the skills she would have with her potential jobs. Then at the library she had come across a book detailing what a sorcerer could do. And it turned out to be exactly what she had been looking for.

Now her arm came up almost as if she herself did not have control over it, and she knocked on the door.

A cheerful looking Oban man answered it, he seemed almost distracted with a quill perched behind his ear, dripping a small amount of ink onto the floor which from the marks there wasn’t entirely an uncommon occurrence. He smiled at her. “Oh hello there, is there something I could do for you? A spell perhaps? A love token?”

She wondered how often he did love tokens and also if they were successful. She shook her head. “Actually I am here to learn. I want to become a sorcerer and I am in need of someone to teach me. I am a bright and dedicated student, if you or anyone you know is in need of an apprentice.

He looked her up and down then crooked a finger at her to come in. He handed her a cup of coffee which she sipped gratefully. “I warn you, I have not had an apprentice for years so I might be a bit rusty and you might have to ask more questions than usual, but I am willing to give it a try.”

Zasha sat on the sea rock and over looked the waves. It had been a quiet week at the beach house with only herself and her Dad. He was on vacation from the forge so he could spend more time doing other things. It was fun to be the only one with him around, though she missed her Mom and brothers their schedules had kept them in Oba. However it was almost too quiet for her. She got up off the rock and flicked the sand off of her feet before penning a note to her father who was sleeping in. She was concerned that he was coming down with a cold and thought she would take a trip into town to the market. She might find some handy herbs there and also she might happily find some trouble to get into. She didn’t do all that well with staying in one place, and there was only so much reading she could do. Especially when she had gone through all of the texts that Aire had assigned her and also through her brothers stash of smut. She was so very bored.
She left the note where her Dad would see it an all but skipped back out the front door, a simple basket hung over her arm for the food or herbs she found to make her Dad feel better. He had worked so hard for them just like their Mother had and he too deserved to be spoiled once in a while. Working a forge was very physical and hot and so tiring. She wasn’t sure she could do it for more than about an hour before every cell in her body would be telling her to go have a bath. It made her Dad super strong though, and when he was around she felt like nothing could touch her, because they would have to go through him to get to her and he was tall and powerfully built that the endless hours at the forge had contributed to.
The walk to the market was enjoyable with quite a few flower gardens in bloom. She took extra time walking by Kylaelya’s place. He was a green thumb if ever there was one and the work and sweat he put into the maintenance of his yard was evident. Exotic plants tastefully curated among more common species of unusual color. She would love to read his breeding books one day and wondered if any of the plants he had come across might be more than useful to her other teacher Aire. She had quite a few teachers truth be told. But Aire was by far her favorite he also taught in her eyes the most interesting subject. To be able to make fire and blow things up without magic was scintillating to say the least. She was somewhat concerned that she had left for a lengthy vacation…who was making sure that he ate and that his notes were filed properly? If there was someone did she want to know about it? Had he perhaps forgotten her and gotten a replacement? No she was unforgettable, she shouldn’t think like that. Aire would be there and it would be like she had never left. That was one of the perks of working with someone who’s mind was always swirling about the academic realm. She could only do that for so long until her body screamed out for some par cour practice. She found such exultation in physical exercise. She wasn’t huge by any standard but she had muscles and was lightly but solidly built. She had just a tough more muscle than her mom, for which she blamed her Dad.
Aire however looked like he would blow away with a stout wind…perhaps one created by one of his own experiments. She had never forgotten the look on his face when he had blown something up in front of her. It had a kind of rapture to it that she had felt only when she had magnificently bested her twin brothers at something. That was what they had in common, besides attention to detail. A rapture of passion for the things they loved the most. For him it was explosions for her it was explosions that could startle her brothers in most unconvinient (for them) ways, giving her an edge in battles and family disputes. She could have gone and done what her Mother was good at, but that would require training from her Mother. Plus she didn’t relish having to be that sneaky all the time. Fire and lightning bolts as a rule were not sneaky and they were what truly interested her about the Sorcerer magic route. That and her twin brothers had no magic. It was still a toss up what her younger brother Zohra was going to do but she thought he might lean toward magic too. It was one of the few ways that they could come out on par with identical beast tamers. She didn’t think Zohra would chose either of their parent’s jobs but she could be wrong about that too. She just knew he was going to be a classic pain in the butt. Her poor father had as yet not gotten one offspring that shared his gentle calm nature. Though her Mother tended to bring out of a side of him that most of the world didn’t see. Zasha thought it was very cute that her Dad could be his authentic self with her Mother. She should aspire to that in a mate when and if she decided to find one.
She reached the market in quick time. There she spent some time doing a perimeter browse because of boredom before settling in and finding some things that were more for her own wardrobe than for her Father’s potential cold. A pink ribbon, a beaded hairpeace, and a few vegetables that she thought would make a good dinner that night before she settled down to bickering with an old nag hedge witch who was trying to sell healing herbs for twice what they were worth. One of her many teachers was a healer as that was a path she had contemplated choosing before she met the scientific wonder that was Aire and discovered the word of alchemy. The only thing that would make alchemy better would be magic so that is what she chose. Though she had to admit that she loved note taking and organization in general which made her a good pupil for all of her teachers. She had recently acquired a new teacher for sorcery. She was still feeling him out but so far he seemed adequate enough. He was not as fun per say as Aire or as eloquent or experienced as Healer Bertha, but she had been practicing for a good twenty two years, while her sorcerer teacher still seemed relatively fresh faced in comparison. He would no doubt be quite adept one day, and he had had other apprentices before, it was just that she had some better teachers as far as their respective crafts went. Oh well, if he was inadequate enough she could find a new tutor. But she would give him a chance as of yet. Everyone deserved a chance and they were just about out of the basic theory now. She had finished that homework too and she guessed that fixing her Dad would count as healing homework. She was happy to be learning so much in so short of time. She also liked that she got to spend so much time with different teachers and that it was not just one for forever, now that would be torture.
She eventually won with the herb lady after threatening to go elsewhere and walking away a few steps the woman recalled her and she bought the herbs for a half decent price before walking off to buy some paint. It was a hobby that she liked and she wished she could do more of. So that day she decided she would, staring with the beach vacation.
Her Dad might like to see her work after all, he was a creative soul even if his chosen medium was metal not magic or paints. She also adored getting little paint spots all over herself as a reminder that she had been doing something fun that day for no other reason than she had wanted to have fun and express herself creatively. She needed to remind herself that it was okay not to be productive at all times and that with her general study habits she could more than afford to take a good break once in a while. Which of course this trip was supposed to emulate.
She hauled all of her newly purchased goods home, feeling like she had contributed to their currently mini household. She set about making the tea after dumping everything else onto the table to be gone over and admired by her before she squirreled it away like a mama radaku hiding her pups.
