Sekani

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Nicknames: Kani
Race: Water / Fire
Gender: Male
Significant Other: N/A
Parents: Kalliope & Gael
Siblings: Jax, Djego, Brexxa, Visha, & Korin
Children: None
Physical Description: Was born prematurely so what started out as a sickly little babe turned into a puny kid. He's hale and hearty now, but still on the smol side

Personality: He's a naturally kind individual with a bleeding heart and an almost naive mind. Sekani simply doesn't see any true evil in others. He can be irritated by them, certainly, but his grudges rarely last more than a few hours (or a day, in the case of his sisters). He enjoys sharing his gifts with others just to see them smile and laughter is as precious to Sekani as the purest of diamonds.

He can be extremely dense. Sekani simply isn't the most knowledgeable individual, and as such he doesn't pick up on a lot of subtlies going on around him. With that in mind he can come off as rather blunt at times, going so far as to step on toes when he doesn't mean to, and when he's called out on it he'll get confused.

History:
Sekani is the youngest of three siblings that his parents share together. He has two older brothers from his mother and an elder sister from his father; all of which were loved, but not as held as closely as the siblings he grew up with. Because Sekani was born prematurely, he was always aa small lad with a tendency to soak in the attention and became a brat because of it.

Over the years he's grown out of it (mostly), but still loves his family deeply.

Growth Point Links:
[5] Lessons in Maquillage - Kalliope
[5] I'm Innocent! - Sariza
[5] Date Night - Cahira
[5] On The Road - Finn
Class Affinity/Choice Solo: 5
Growth Blurb: Sekani has always been the baby of the family and was content in his role for a long time. As he's grown older he's also taken a liking to independence and wants to know the world for what it really is rather than what he can see from behind his siblings. He's starting a new job as a stable hand at a Xaraan racing track and is looking forward to learning all he can.

Physical Description: Hair ref - should go just below collar bone. Keeping his piercings, but changing out the jewelry for medium hoops in his lobes, a golden hoop orbital in place of the cuffs, and a golden forward helix.

Nothing fancy as far as his outfit is concerned. A pair of breathable pants, a sash around his waist and preferably the same broach that's in his current art on the sash. I'd like for him to have a tattoo on his bicep; can be as simple/complicated/varied as the artist wants, but I'd definitely like it to be plant related. He loves flowers and with his parents both having tattoos I think he'd like something to keep them with him.

Body Type: Lean muscle

Preferred Artists: Any
WIPs: Sure!

Familiar

Averin (pl. Averin) - Small and quick, these little creatures like to stow away on any transportation vehicle they can find and in hard to reach spots like the ceiling beams of houses. They sport wings and a beak with which they crack open their food sources - the nuts found in the trees of Belrea. They flit by, typically in small family units of 3-6, causing small mischiefs in their wake.

Meeki is a impish little thing whose grown attached to Sekani. He purchased the weak, puny little Averin from a Belrean trader who no doubt thought he was making the deal of a lifetime. He'd assumed the diseased creature would die under the care of an inexperienced child, but either out of sheer luck or an iron determination Sekani managed to save him.

While affectionate and sweet with the family as a whole Meeki's favorite person is Sekani. If at all possible he clings to the boy, choosing to either ride in his arms or on his shoulder, and sleeps on a perch close to his bed.

Class Choice Solo - Beast Master

Awat wasn’t generally some place that Sekani found himself spending a great deal of time, but he had a fondness for the settlement. As the farthest Eastern point of Oba, it was the only access point to Matori and thus some place he passed through a great deal. If he wanted to visit family in Oba he went through Awat and when Sekani was ready to come home he would, also, go through Awat.

Those that called the place home permanently were used to travelers and made a great boon from them. Even though he’d grown used to watching out for pick pockets and quick sellers, Sekani inevitably always found himself charmed into spending some of his coin on something ‘stupid’. A magic trick? Well, he’d love to see that. A dancing Matorian who could make spectral keldari fly around her?! What even was a keldari and how could it do that?!

With his satchel slung over his back, Sekani found himself milling through the market with an impossibly bright smile, but a purpose that hadn’t been there before. He was old enough now to start working, albeit more of apprenticeship than anything substantial, and thus had been in Oba for some time now. He’d been staying with his mother’s family while he did some work as a Guide and that….Well, that apparently wasn’t his calling. Sekani had done well to keep moral up and to take care of their mounts, but anything else….

Flexing his left hand and looking at the faint hint of burns brought him back to the reality of his situation. He didn’t know anything about the real world. His parents hadn’t sheltered him, but there was a lot he hadn’t been exposed to because he didn’t need to be and with siblings like his it wasn’t as if he ever had to fend for himself. Sekani was a dimwitted, smiling fool and while he didn’t want to lose his happiness he had to wonder if he shouldn’t try to fix something.

To learn more about how things worked.

Over his shoulder he spied a familiar face and his smile couldn’t help twisting into something of a wince. An Oban girl, closer to Visha’s age, was trailing behind and getting caught up in things too. Instead of going with it and finding joy in the charade she was shaking a dancer down for the coin she’d had taken. Sekani very nearly intervened, but…Well, Issa was scary when she was mad.

His friend and ex-coworker had wanted desperately to see Matori for the first time so Sekani offered to take her with him. She was nearly a full head taller than him with hair the color of blood and eyes of such a pale pink that they reminded him of a flower’s petal. When she finally caught up to him she was in such a huff that he could imagine steam coming out of her mouth.

“You should be careful, Issa. You’re starting to look like a Gerru.” She may not have been fifty feet tall just yet, but her hair might very well be hiding the horns.

“I just don’t like being taken advantage of.” She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. In one move she’d gone from a truly intimidating figure to the pouting teenager she actually was. He bumped his hip against hers, hoping to bring out a smile and it worked; just a little. Good thing Sekani was used to dealing with grumpy girls; both of his sisters had their moments. “Did you tell your family this wasn’t a permanent trip back or are you waiting to spring it on them?”

“They…sort of think I’m just bringing a friend to visit? I didn’t really go into detail in my letter.”

What would he have said? That he’d accepted an apprenticeship in Sulburi? Issa’s father was an experienced Xaraan trainer who needed some help with his work. Since neither of his daughters had shown an interest in the family business he’d had to turn elsewhere and she’d been keen to show him Sekani. At first he hadn’t known what to think. A job, in Sulburi? It was one thing to visit Oba from tiem to time, but to actually live here? He thought out of anyone that Visha would have been the first to leave home and yet…It just seemed too good to be true. He would be rearing and training Xaraan for racing; a sport that Sekani loved to watch. Issa’s father made sure that the creatures were well taken care of, and even supplied some of the cities couriers with mounts so if he wanted to make money on the side he could do some of that work. The pay was decent; less so once he paid for lodging and food, but it would be worth it just to have the experience.

He'd always loved animals and had thought at one point in his life that he might have been a dancer like his mother. While Sekani certainly had rhythm he didn’t much care for dancing where others could see him. He grew stiff and awkward; traits that any good dancer didn’t have. This, though; this he could do! It wasn’t as physically demanding as his father’s work, but there was enough of a laborious element to it that he knew he could make his family proud.

So long as they were okay with their youngest leaving home.

“Don’t’cha think it’ll be kind of like springing it on them? Maybe you could of at least talked about the work you’d already been doing for him and what you’ve learned so far.”

“Yeah, probably.” Sekani chuckled anxiously. The pair brushed past a sweet seller and the boy turned. As they walked away he walked backward just to drool over the scent until Issa hooked his neck and pulled him close.

“See, now, you’ve screwed me over.” She let go with a huff. “They’re gonna think I’m the reason you’re leaving. My first trip to Matori and I’m stealing someone’s son.”

“Could be worse; could be someone ugly taking me away.” When he looked up at her and smiled her cheeks flushed a dark mahogany before her eyes shifted to the side. Sekani innocently reached for her hand, ignorant to the way her entire body stiffened or the way her palms grew ten times sweatier. His mind was on the Xaraan he would one day come to care for, and not the girl having a near panic episode beside him.

“Wh-what are you doing?”

“I don’t want to lose you. It’s getting busier and we need to get to the docks before sundown.” He gave her hand another squeeze before pausing and looking down at them. “Why are you so swea-?”

“OH LOOK THERE’S AN OPENING.” Sekani squealed when Issa hurriedly drug them through a hole in the crowd. He very nearly dropped his satchel and despite the multitude of times he called out to her Issa didn’t slow her pace in the least. She pushed them past rows upon rows of vendors, hustled through clothing salesman hocking materials he might have bought for his mother, and didn’t even slow to a jog until the port was within view.

Sekani was a wheezing mess and he’d been training for months already! The hybrid’s pack slipped off his shoulder as he doubled over, hands on his knees as he tried to just adjust. Sweat poured off his back and he could have sworn that every breath brought out a new wave of nausea. “Wh-why-why did you….why did…why run?!”

“We made it faster! It worked out.” Even Issa was breathing hard, though she was handling it better than he was. When he dared to lift his head to look up at her she barely had a hair out of place. “Gotta get used to moving fast if you’re going to work with Xaraan, anyway.”

“Pretty sure…they’re the…ones that…run…” With a dramatic huff, Sekani slipped down to the ground on his butt. There was just no use; his legs were wibbling so much that they couldn’t hold him. “I hate you so much right now.”

“….No you don’t,” Issa grumbled. When he turned to look at her again she seemed surprised that he’d heard her and puffed up again. “You’d be soft and lazy if it wasn’t for me. This’ll be good for you! We’ll run together when I’m not out scouting the sands.”

Every ounce of horror Sekani could muster must have pulled into his expression because Issa burst out laughing. She dropped down next to him and offered a hand to pull the exhausted hybrid up.

“I changed my mind I want to stay home.” Sekani sighed.

“No you don’t,” Issa chuckled and this time she was the one to initiate hand holding. “You’ll love it at the track.”

And he knew he would. It was going to be an adjustment for sure, but Sekani was excited for the opportunity. He might not get another one like it.
