Vermilion City is a city in Kanto situated near a sea inlet to the south. It serves as a popular sea port for ships such as the S.S. Anne, but Vermilion Harbor is a home port for many other ships as well. The S.S. Anne sails around the world and returns to Vermilion once a year. The S.S. Aqua sails from Olivine City in Johto to Vermilion Harbor. The Seagallop Ferries also sail regularly to all of the Sevii Islands. Aside from the harbor, the other exits to the city are Route 11 and Diglett's Cave to the east. North of the city is Route 6, which leads into Saffron City.
Vermilion City is home to the "Lightning American" Lt. Surge, the Leader of the Electric-specialist Gym. Lt. Surge challenges any trainers looking to battle him by setting up electric fences that bar anyone from entering his arena. There is a way to deactivate these fences however, which can be achieved by looking through the various objects in the gym for hidden switches. There are two switches in total, and when they're shut off, trainers may challenge Lt. Surge.
The people in the town are careful about pollution, as they are afraid that an infestation of Grimer could occur if the seas were ever polluted, as Celadon City suffers from this issue. Vermilion is also home to the Fan Club Chairman, who can be found in the Pokémon Fan Club house located just slightly north of the Gym. He will happily talk to trainers about his own pokemon, and always loves to see pokemon who are well taken care of in return.

After the hectic Holloween Event, Rafael 's ghastly made an error on the return home. Instead, Jimmy had been transported to a ship sailing from the Orange Islands. With most of his too injured to try to fly, Jimmy had to wait out his time on the ship, until it finally reached the ports of Vermillion City. Feeling the first steps on shore felt great, but he knew that he had more pressing matters than just appreciating the ground. He quickly said his goodbyes to his sailor friends, and made his way to Vermillion City's Pokémon Center.

It was just like the sailor said, the Gym could be seen as if it were a lighthouse. With a breath of excitement, Jimmy opened the doors of the gym to find a rather old war veteran stare him down with a smile. "My Name is James Kuro, and I Challenge the Vermillion City Gym Leader." Jimmy proclaimed, expecting the old man to bring him the gym leader.

The old man whom Jimmy addressed gave a quiet chuckle, looking over to the electrified fence behind him. "Lieutenant Surge! You have a challenger here!" He called out, and after a moment the electricity barring entrance to the other side of the gym dissipated with a slow whirring that alluded to the idea that it had been shut down, and a rather burly man with sunglasses and blonde spiky hair stepped out from the other end, dusting his gloves off. "What's that Gregory?" He barked, lifting the sunglasses away from his eyes and up onto his forehead, but then he caught a glimpse of Jimmy, and his attention was locked on. "Ohhh a challenger eh? Heh. Alright, bring the pup over." Surge indicated the room he'd come from with his head, the Pikachu on his shoulder grinning tauntingly and sparking it's cheeks. A battle was coming, how could it not be excited?
Gregory, the aforementioned old man, turned his attention back to Jimmy. "This way lad." He said with a kindly smile, but there was a spark of excitement in his eye as well. Gym battles were always exciting whenever they were with Surge, win or lose. Gregory led Jimmy into the newly "unplugged" chamber and across to the battleground where Lt. Surge awaited. "Alright kid, what's your name?" Gregory intercepted. "Says his name is James Kuro sir." Surge looked thoughtful. "James eh? Not bad, let's see what you've got then!" Surge grinned and took on a fighting stance as his Pikachu hopped off of his shoulder and onto the battlefield, awaiting whatever pokemon Jimmy planned too use in the battle.

Jimmy couldn't help but smile. Its been a while since he had a battle, and the last time was out of this world. literally. "Well Mr. Surge, I hope you brought your Paralyze Heal" he said jokingly as he grabbed a pokeball off his belt and tossed it into the air. "Go! Twister!" Jimmy shouted, calling out his trusty Dratini to battle. "I came to see what your made of! why don't you go first." Jimmy called to Lt.Surge from the other side of the arena. He knew the first attack would be taken like nothing by Dratini, and dratini knew, when the time was right, and his electric fast pokemon were close, to hit them with a dragon tail attack.

Lt Surge chuckled as Jimmy sent out a Dratini and insisted that Surge go first, since he had come just to see what the ex war veteran was made of. "Came to see what I was made of? Haha! You've got some spunk kid! Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Im the gym leader around here you know." He grinned, crossing his arms. "Pikachu, it's not gonna do much right now since we're up against a dragon type, but see if we can do some damage and paralyze that Dratini with a Thunderbolt!" Surge commanded, and Pikachu let loose a powerful electric shock, though as the lieutenant predicted, it didn't do much damage, and unfortunately didn't end up Paralyzing the dragon.

"Haha" Jimmy laughed. he was enjoying himself. "Well then ill show you a bit. Now Twister!" he shouted. Dratini brushed off the attack and launched forward. He slammed his tail hard against the Pikachu, forcing it back to its trainer. The battle was still on, and Dratini waited until the gym leader called their next pokemon. as soon as it revealed itself, Dratini planned to hit it with Twister attack. Very few pokemon were fast enough to dodge its effects.
Waiting for that moment, Dratini and Jimmy seemed to smirk in sync.

Surge had expected the Dratini to bounce back quickly from the Thunderbolt, this wasn't the lieutenant's first rodeo against dragon types, but it did kind of suck to be at such a type disadvantage. If only he could use his rematch team, there would be other moves at his disposal that were at least decently effective, but for now he would try to paralyze the Dratini and either whittle it's health down slowly with ineffective moves or force Jimmy to switch out to something that was a bit easier for them to handle.
The Dratini slammed it's tail into his Pikachu, catching her by surprise, too surprised to even activate it's static ability during the short amount of time that they were still in contact with each other. Damn well there went plan B, and now Pikachu was forced to return to her pokeball. Surge scratched his nose and swapped to his Voltorb for now, since it could take a few hits. "Alright Voltorb, brace yourself...!" He warned, not liking the not so subtle smirk on Jimmy and his Dratini's faces.

As soon as Voltorb came out of its pokeball, Dratini swirled rapidly, creating a twister and launching it at Voltorb. The Voltorb Flinched from being caught off guard, but it was just as the two planned. "Alright Twister, one more time!" Jimmy directed.

Voltorb was hit by a twister, an unexpected move as they hadn't quite gotten used to this particular opponent, so it wasn't entirely surprising that Voltorb flinched. Surge had learned to always prepare for the worst and hope for the best, that was all you really could do in battle. However, Jimmy made the mistake of using the same move twice in a row, and now used to the nature of the attack, Voltorb didn't flinch this time. Surge nodded approvingly, looking to Jimmy as he warned his pokemon to brace itself now that they'd been left open for an attack. "Way to hold your own Voltorb! Now slam 'em hard with a Tackle attack!" Surge commanded. It was their best bet, hitting them while they were left open and then trying to hit again to get in that extra damage as a make up for it's lost move last round.

Voltorb flew out of the twister and hit Dratini hard, with not one, but two tackle attacks. this rolling ball was faster at tackles then dratini thought. "Concentrate!" jimmy shouted, seeing his pokemon was starting to wear down. it seemed as if Voltorb may have been going in for another tackle, but dratini wasn't taking that chance. As the Voltorb got close, Dratini swung hard and hit the opponent with a Dragon Tail.
Taking a Few deep breaths, Dratini and Jimmy awaited the next pokemon.

Seeming to dislike Voltorb's onslaught, Jimmy ordered his Dratini to use Dragon Tail to force Surge to switch out again. So this was the kind of game they wanted to play eh? That was fine, Surge could keep up. He returned Voltorb and sent out Pikachu again. "Wait this one out Pikachu." Surge commanded, seeing how tense she was. "I didn't come to not see your best Mr.Surge, holding back could cost you!" he taunted playfully. the match was serious, but if there was no joy, what would be the point of battle?
"Use twister! he commanded. Dratini eyeballed the aggravated Pikachu before spiraling up another twister. jimmy could see the difference in dratinis ability to preform, it was getting tired. "C'mon Twist, back to plan A" he said calmly as it began to coil itself and embraced for attack.

lol I might, but we'll see. Like I said, I'm not that cruel, I won't spam Recover to keep Staryu alive, not for a second tier gym badge. They aren't supposed to be that hard, but I don't just give away badges either >w<

Surge smiled lightly at the taunt Jimmy gave and adjusted his sunglasses. "Cool your Jets kind, I'm just getting warmed up!" Pikachu was hit with another twister, but at this point the Dratini was getting worn down, and it's attack didn't have enough juice to make Pikachu flinch. "Now Pikachu, use Thunder Wave!" Pikachu seemed all to happy to send out the weak but effective electric current, Paralyzing the Dratini to hopefully help ward off the attacks, or at least convince Jimmy to switch pokemon, but before they got a chance to move, Pikachu now raced towards the Dratini with the Quick Attack she had been dying to deal out.

Jimmy grunted as his Dratini was Hit with a Thunderwave. He didn't expect Lt.Surge to Force the paralysis in the middle of their set up. But then he smiled as he seen Dratini hit with a Quick attack. It may have seemed odd, but jimmy was able to see his dratini's movements to Counter attack.
Dratini used the momentum from the quick attack to spiral back with a Dragon Tail, sending Pikachu back to Lt.Surge.
"If we hold our horses, then we wont progress. We wont grow." Jimmy explained as his Dratini shed its skin. When it was out, it appeared a bit longer than before.
"My team has dealt with a lot. even though he's tired, He's tough. And he has spirit. Give him the chance, he will take the battle himself." Jimmy smirked and Dratini let out a battle cry as they waited.
