_________Leadership
Since he was young, Ouen has never been afraid to take initiative, formulate his own plans and recruit others into following along. He takes charge without trying too hard; he's confident and capable of convincing others, so people follow him naturally. He's able to maintain his authority through his own loyalty, and by making it clear that all his loud words are always backed up with serious action.
_________Charisma
In his own way, Ouen is rather articulate. His language is broken and slurred, and anyone listening to him can tell that he isn't exactly an intellectual. However, he's very good at convincing others, or at the very least captivating an audience as he delivers his point of view. He's personable, and takes the time to make connections with people. Although he can come off as somewhat racist and judgmental from a distance, he really does come around to accepting people the way they are after some time talking to them... as long as they're decent people.
_________Duty
Ouen was an irresponsible, wild child of the jungle. He's since grown, and although he still has a lot of that easy-going adaptability that he had as a kid, he now sees a need to protect his allies and the people he cares for. He will stand up for 'his people' no matter the opposition, and any threat to them will be answered with a swinging lance and angry curses. He's not the best at caring for his kith and kin when violent outbursts of revenge aren't going to do the job, but... he's working on it.

Ouen never met his father, nor does he know who he is -- he's sure his mother knows, but she has always been too timid to point any fingers. She was too timid to do much, in fact, besides stay home in Ast and try to raise her troublemaker of a son. And try is the operative word here, because, well, she wasn't much of an authority figure for the boy. She avoided all conflict, shied away from strong emotions and never had the courage to severely discipline or lecture him on anything.
Much to her dismay, Ouen and his reckless attitude thrived in this environment, practically given free rein to do anything he wanted. He never understood how much frustration he caused for his mother, since their relationship was never stimulating enough to warrant his interest. As soon as he could, he went off searching for more exciting companions -- and the older he got, the longer he stayed away from home, coming back only when he was hungry or cold (or hiding on account of some trouble he had caused).

As Ouen grew older, he left home altogether and wandered through the jungle, living from hand to mouth and sleeping on whatever tree struck him as most comfortable. He heard some talk about a war against the invading Obans, but his own interactions with these people were limited at first, and Ouen didn’t worry very much about it. In his youth, it seemed to him that there was more than enough jungle for everyone.
When he did finally encounter hostile Oban forces, his understanding of the world changed a little. He realized that the freedom he enjoyed was something that needed to be defended… and he found that he quite liked defending it, acting like a big hero despite his age and relative lack of skill. A sense of stubborn pride began to grow within him; he had felt proud before, of course, proud of his accomplishments and hare-brained schemes. But this was a different pride. This was a pride that came from believing that he was worth something, and that he deserved to be treated with respect and recognized as a man who was out to do something significant.
The older, stronger, and more skilled he grew, the stronger this sense of pride got.

Having heard word of a bandit group that stole from rich Oban merchants to give to the local poor, Ouen sought out their leader so that he might join up. This sounded exactly like what he wanted to do -- a chance to prove himself in battle and look like a hero! He was accepted into the group and for a while supported the leader, Talin, with gusto. He raided trading caravans, laughed at the babbling merchants and hauled off plenty of loot.
As time went on, though, he changed his tune a little. He began to realize that some in the group (Talin included) were far more bloodthirsty than he thought necessary, and that the handing out of stolen goods sometimes took a backseat to senseless violence and profiteering. He was verbal about his disapproval and many of the similarly-minded bandits supported him in it. He followed his own moral ideology -- not Talin's, or anyone elses' -- and he acted on it, taking his followers on missions that had nothing to do with money-making or thievery. His group lashed out at other bandits, defended oppressed peoples and chased off those who were taking advantage of them.
It wasn't long before his activities caught the attention of the band's leader...

bushi •
Ouen met Bushi while selling the fence some stolen goods on Talin's behalf. Although Ouen was not too pleased to be saddled with this task, and made his distaste of Talin's selfish profiteering quite clear, he found nothing to dislike in Bushi. In fact, he rather admired the way the man went about his business -- he seemed honest and straightforward in his dealings. Ouen admitted to him that Talin had been killing often over loot like this, and this seemed to concern Bushi a bit... something Ouen took as a sign to consider his own situation.
kalliope •
Kalliope had been captured by an Oban merchant intent to sell her as a black-market slave. It was just her luck that the merchant's caravan was hit by Ouen and some other members of Talin's bandit group. Ouen was impressed by the defiant spark in her, and wanted to let her go; slavery and kidnapping didn't sit well with him. The other bandits, sensing her value, didn't agree... so although Ouen ended up having to bring her back to camp, he's made it plainly clear that she is under his protection. A few months later, she became the (accidental) mother to his sons.

Ouen met Keelthy when he stumbled into an Oban camp in search of his runway radaku pup. They didn't like each other much at first, but got over that fairly quick. Ouen was a little fascinated by Keelthy's 'high-class' mannerisms and pretty looks, but it was his dancing that really sealed the deal. Ouen would sure like to see him again!

talin •
Ouen had heard of this man before he ever met him -- the wind was the leader of a bandit group that had been rousing up some goodwill amongst poor Jauhar villages. Apparently, Talin's band was stealing from the rich to give to the poor. something Ouen liked the sound off. He managed to meet the man, and successfully asked to join the band. His initial impressions of Talin was that the man was clever, skilled and prideful... all of which turned out to be true. However, as time went on, he began to see a much darker side to the man... including cold-blooded killings and a dangerous temper.
ta'ruk •
Ouen saved Ta'ruk from capture... and through some unlikely fluke of fate, killed the Oban who had been dragging him way. Ouen happened to discoverer that he liked saving people -- especially Ta'ruk, who was (somewhat) grateful for the rescue, and even kissed Ouen as a reward! Well... ok, maybe the whole kissing bit was Ouen's idea, but it still happened!
mirin •
Ouen and Mirin teamed up to save a pack of radaku who had been abducted by Oban mercenaries. Despite being young, completely reckless and unarmed, they managed to pull of the rescue and get out alive... with a radaku pup in tow! Ouen was pretty impressed with Mirin, and hopes to see her again.
mano •
Ouen met Mano on the shores of Jauhar. He was gorgeous, fit and funny -- an excellent hunter and fantastic company. Things got a little... intimate that night, to say the least, and although they had to part ways Ouen can't quite stop thinking about the guy. He's going to have to track him down again, he knows.

oban sash
Ouen tore a sash from the red cloak of an Oban warrior that he (somehow) defeated in battle as an inexperienced prentice. The victory was a huge fluke, but that won't stop him from parading his war-trophy around his waist!
lance
Every hero needs a weapon -- and Ouen is mighty proud of his. He's had his decorated in bright red, with some other accessories. He's rarely seen without it, even if all he's doing is using it as a leaning-post.
armor
Having grown up leaping from tree to tree in the jungle, Ouen doesn’t want to be burdened by heavy armor. A light-weight shoulder guard gives him a bit of extra protection without restricting his movement.
tattoos
They're not a physical object, but definitely one of Ouen’s proudest possessions -- the first is inspired by his childhood in the wilderness, and depicts a winding Jauhar jungle-tree and the ever-important moon. The second is a stylized radaku, in honour of his mount.

shenandoah [ cert ]
Shen is (currently) a juvenile radaku with a dappled gray body and bold white markings. Ouen found Shen in an Oban camp, where he and other radaku had been captured by Oban mercenaries. Working together with Mirin, he freed the radaku and took the small (likely orphaned) pup into his own care. He's now trying to train the creature... with limited success.
