On Shenandoah’s back, Ouen found a whole new kind of freedom.

Up until now, he hadn’t ever wandered very far from Jauhar. He was either in the very thick of the jungle or just on the edges of it, in the parts of Oba and Tale that sat close to its borders. Everything else seemed distant and unknown, and as adventurous he had been, it was easy to limit his roaming to the lands and landscapes he knew best. Everything beyond the jungle seemed unusual, and the lengthy journeys necessary to get there a bit of a barrier for a man who wanted things fast and exciting.

But moving on four feet instead of two, he found his range widening considerably. And so it was that he had come to Matori, a place he’d always dreamed of visiting, ever since he had encountered the first Water Earthlings to arrive in his own homeland.

It was as beautiful as he had expected it to be -- if not more so. It smelled like wind and sea-spray. The weather was warm and almost always sunny, but much cooler than Jauhar, and the people were a pretty, sparkling blue-green, like the waves themselves. He knew he couldn’t stay long here, what with business of his own to attend to back home… but it was a welcome reprieve from all that madness, and he was glad for it. It was also, he realised, a perfect place to practice his riding skills, what with all the stretches of sandy beach that were free and clear of obstacles, and easy on the radaku’s paws.

It was on such a stretch that he had left his lance, standing upright in the sand. He himself had disappeared out of sight, hidden behind a boulder on the far end of the beach. There, he mounted Shenandoah, ran his hand across the animal’s neck, and squeezed him forward into a run.

They rounded the boulder and picked up speed, Ouen urging Shenandoah on, and the animal moving eagerly to see what he could do. He ran right at the edge of sand and sea, where the ground was wet but harder-packed and easier to run on. When the waves lapped up at his feet he would send up slashes of sparking water, and the rider’s silver hair and mount’s white mane streamed prettily in the wind behind them.

As Ouen approached the lance, he nudged Shenandoah closer to it, and reached out to snatch it up in mid-stride. From there, he had to flip it around, switch it to his other hand -- not an easy thing to do at a full gallop. This accomplished, he threw the spear at a target drawn in the sand (landing off-centre, but not too far off), and… finally, leaned back to slow the radaku, for they were about to run out of beach and hit the pile of rocky boulders that sat at the end of this particular stretch.

Eleina loved parties. At parties she could be whoever she wanted to be, especially when at said party no one knew her. She wasn't a hybrid, wasn't a spirtworker, she was just Eleina and that was fun. Most of the time that was enough, but not this time. Time time the party was actually a huge beach party, and she hadn't been around these people before which meant she wanted a grand entrance. She knew she could do it, but hadn't figured out what to do yet. "Come on Nova, give me some ideas!" She said with a laugh as she looked over at her snaptrotter. Sadly though Nova had no suggestions.

As she walked down the beach Eleina thought of all the possible entrances she could make. There was always the option of using magic, she could be flashy with it and she was sure people would be impressed no matter if she used fire or water spells. But that was just so typical, and she hated typical. Even if she rode on Nova using magic it wouldn't be something they hadn't seen before. She wanted to do something that would keep people talking for days to come.

She was about to give up and just rely on her magic to get peoples attention when she saw a lance standing in the sand. Confused Eleina couldn't see anyone around, that was until she heard the sound of paws hitting the sand. Looking to the left she spotted the ticket to having a wonderful grand entrance. He was a shifter and he was so hot. "Nova, I found my date."

She watched as he grabbed the lance at full speed before switching it's hand and throwing it at what she assumed was a target in the ground. As she saw him start to slow she started to clap. "Very impressive handsome."

He had noticed the blur of brilliant red on his gallop across the sand, but had put it out of his mind for the time-being, determined to focus on the challenge he had set himself. He had all but forgotten it when he heard a light voice call back from the beach, a greeting that he assumed (perhaps presumptuously) was directected at him.

After all, he didn’t see anyone else being handsome and impressive on this abandoned bit of beach was he?

The owner of this voice, however, was mighty impressive in her own sense -- that much he recognize as he trotted over to her side. At first glance she was an Oban through and through; she had the tan skin and dark red hair. But Ouen had seen enough Obans to notice the differences, and he had peered into enough of the amber-yellow eyes of water earthlings to recognize one of their own, even if it was in part. A hybrid, then, he’d seen a couple, but none quite like her… although it was hard to say if that was due to her mixed appearance, or her appearance period.

“Could’ve done better.” He shrugged. “Was a couple’a hands away from’the target, but we’re workin’ on’t.”

He had pulled his lance back out of the sand, and held this by his side as he dismounted Shenandoah -- blade pointed down so as not to raise alarm.

“I done had this bugger ‘ere since he was a little furball like a perzi, but we only been ridin’ a couple’a weeks truth be told. What’cha up to, missy?”

She nodded. "There is always room for improvement." she commented when he shrugged off the compliment. She noticed although he commented on the impressive bit of her compliment he let the handsome part stand. She liked a man who was confident about his appearance. He really was the perfect date.

As he dismounted the beast she took in both of their appearance. "He's a radaku, correct?" She asked politely. She had seen many Shifters with them and figured that they must be the more popular of the creatures back in the forest. Although she had never been there herself she imagined the forest full of the creatures.

"You two must be close then. I've only had Nova for a while, but she wasn't all that small when I got her. Hopefully one day I'll be able to ride her and cast spells atop her back." She doubted it, but it would be interesting.

When he asked what she was up to her smile grew bright. This was a perfect opening for an invitation. "I'm glad you asked, I'm about to go to a party but I don't have a date." Hopefully he liked forward girls.

“Thassright.” He nodded, scratching Shenandoah’s back as the radaku stretched it out, sniffing the air around the hybrid woman and taking the time to relax the muscles in his back. Bearing a load as large as she armed shifter took some getting used to, and there was muscle still that he needed to develop before he could keep up that kind of gallop for an extended time.

“Yeah, yeah. Shen an’ I’s really grown up together I guess. But radaku’s like that, they don’t take too easy to trainin’ as adults. ‘Specially if you ain’t a beast tamer, I figure. Maybe your critter’s a heck of a lot smarter if she listens to you even’f you two only been together a while. Shen still goofs ‘round half the time, but I guess I can’t blame ‘im. He’s only learnin’ from yours truly.”

He eyed the creative named ‘Nova’ -- a rather strikingly-colored one, compared to the other specimens he’d seen. Black and tan-gold… a good match to the girl’s tan skin and ornamental dress. She looked like the sort of girl who’d pick a familiar to match her outfit, and he didn’t fault her for it. Besides, him and Shenandoah were sort of similarly-coloured themselves, so… what call did he have to tease her about the same?

“I hope you’s manage it. It’ll be a right pretty picture, yous two an’ magic all over.”

Then the girl turned to the matter of a party, and Ouen raised a curious eyebrow, then flicked his wrist dismissively. “Well, that’s an easy fix, innit? I sure do like a good party.”

Made sense. Most creatures didn't take kindly to being tamed as an adult, though of course from what she understood some had better temperaments about it then others. From the way he was peaking it seemed that radaku's might be the kind of creature with a not so even temperament. The snapptrotters she had met, both young and old, seemed to all be pretty calm, but then again she had only ever met tame ones.

"It's important to have some fun every once in a while. Better to have a companion that know that then one that is a stick in the mud. Plus I feel like as you said after some time they tend to take on some of their owners personalities."

She smiled at the compliment. "Thank you. We'd be able to make a good entrance to things that's for sure."

His words were like music to her ears. She couldn't have asked for a better turn out. A hot and exotic date to the party was just what she wanted. "Oh wonderful! Everyone will be so surprised to see the two of us walking up together. I'm sure that you can handle the attention, you don't strike me as a shy kinda guy." She teased.

He hadn’t quite been certain that she wanted him to invite her along as her date -- but he had a strong feeling that that might be the case. Turned out he was right, and that was as good an outcome as he could hope for. She was mighty pretty, apparently quite clever in her manner of speaking, and… he really did like a good party.

Plus, the water earthlings around here seemed to throw the best parties, anyhow.

“Aw, don’cha worry, why I ain’t gotta scrap of shyness in my veins. Couldn’t even pretend to be shy, come t’a think of it. But I ain’t much of an actor. Fortunately f’r yous, though, ‘m a pretty good dancer. Had a… good teacher of sorts, you c’ld say, back home. An’ you, I’d wager you’s a pretty good dancer too. Y’look the part. ‘Specially the ‘pretty’ bit.”

He winked, silvery eyes glimmering from under a wind-tousled forelock. “Well, where’s this party? Do we got long t’a wait b’fore it gets started? Fair warning: the darker it gets, the better I look. I ain’t even kiddin’. Well, mebbe a little.”
