The latest job had taken him out to Tale. It was his first time away in a while -- him and Kalli had passed through here on the way back from Sauti, sure, but since the birth of the boys he’d kept his adventures in Jauhar. He hadn’t wanted to be too far away from his family (as unusual a family as it was) in case something happened… and anyhow, he’d satisfied his rambling bug with that ‘vacation’ through Matori and Oba.
These days, though, Kalli was back on her feet and strong as ever. The boys were old enough to have their wits about them, and nothing bad had happened yet, so… when word of a profitable score came his way, he jumped on it. Money was running low, anyway, and they could use the extra. Moving camp was still on the table, but that wasn’t easy to do with how rooted they’d gotten to theirs. It would take some work to get that done, and that meant more time away from money-making. The more he could stock up, the better.
The lead had proved to be a good one. With three of his mercenaries with him, he had hunted down a thief and retrieved an (apparently) valuable book. Now he was in one of the inns in Yera, returning that book to the mage who had hired him, and collecting his pay.
“Thankya kindly.” He tipped his fingers to his forehead, picked up the coin-purse and sidled right over to the bar to buy himself a drink.

Her nerves were eating at her yet again. This time more about facing a mercenary. The man she had met with before was just some wanderer. Of course he had his weapons and things like that but there had been no mention that he did fighting for a living. Syqvara held her staff with both hands in front of her, hugging it to her chest as she approached the Inn. She was going off hearsay once more but so far it hadn't lead her astray. So she opened the door and entered. The shy girl she had been in the past wanted nothing more than to duck her head and run out before anyone saw her but if she was to be a shaman, a pillar of the community, then she needed to be able to do things like this. Or.. similar. As her green eyes adjusted to the dimmer lighting she made her way toward the owner. It took her some time but she managed to clear her throat to get their attention. "Excuse me, I-I'm looking for some mercenaries. I was told I could find them here?" She was certain that this was the place she had been told to look but there was still a question in her voice. To add to it she looked around at the other faces that were around her and felt a burning in her cheeks.

He picked a coin out of the pouch, tucked the rest of it into his boot, and waved the bartender over. Shortly after he had a strong drink in front of him, and he took a long drag from the mug before he even bothered taking a good look around.
Most people looked like locals -- tan-skinned Leaf folk, some obvious day-long drunks and others just dropping for a quick drink. He nodded to himself and took another long drink.
Meanwhile, at the end of the bar, the bartender looked up at the red-haired girl who had (eventually) attracted his attention by standing there and clearing her throat like she had just swallowed a bug. He quirked an eyebrow at her question and scratched at his belly as he thought it over.
"Well, if you just want someone to crack some skulls, we got Lofti." He jerked his chin at a big, barrel-chested Leaf man sitting at a table, playing cards with two other men. But maybe he clued in to the fact that skull-cracking wasn't what she was looking for, because a moment later he waved his cleaning-rag down the length of the bar, in Ouen's direction.
"Or that fellow there. The shaggy sort of Shifter. He might be what you're looking for. Heard Oneron hired him on to hunt down some thieves for him, fetch back something that was stolen. He did the job. Go talk to him, if you want something like that."

"Crack skulls..? Oh uh.. n-no.." Syqvara wasn't sure why someone would want that. Then again not everyone had the same aversion to violence that she did. But when she was told of the shifter who was sent to fetch something she looked his way. He was a handsome sort, that much was obvious, but she wondered if he would be able to do the task she needed done. Sy gave a nod of thanks to the other man before she moved toward the shaggy haired shifter. "Excuse me sir.. I was told that you might be able to help me." The thin leaf woman seemed to fidget a little as she waited for a response from the man.

Ouen's attention had wandered to a group of overexcited leaf youths sitting at one corner table. Apparently not old enough for the barkeep to trust them with hard drink, they were all swinging around flagons of weak ale watered-down with a locally-made fruit nectar. The fact that they were barely drinking any liquor wasn't stopping them from acting like total drunkards; it made a pretty amusing scene to watch for a few minutes.
"Excuse me sir..." Motion out of the corner of his eye, red hair and a tentative voice. "I was told that you might be able to help me."
He turned towards the woman who spoke, giving her a quick once-over glance. She didn't look like she was up to anything shady, but to be fair, Ouen wasn't an overly-cautious man. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt to start, and come out swinging if it came down to nastiness.
"Might be I can." He shrugged, and waved his hand at the barstool beside him. "What's it ya need help with?"

Sy looked toward the group that had the shifter's attention but didn't find the sort of amusement that he did. Instead she worried that maybe they were drinking too much and needed to slow down. So when the man she spoke to looked at her she lowered her gaze before peeking up at him. Syqvara was still getting used to speaking with strangers but at least there was no stutter anymore. With the stool being offered to her she seated herself and cleared her throat. "I need someone to find my brother. I'm not sure where he's at exactly." Which she supposed could pose a problem. "I'm not even sure he's alive..." Another potential problem. "I'm willing to pay the price to find out his fate." Did he live? Had he settled down elsewhere? Was he buried in some ditch somewhere? Sy had to know and she wanted to let her mother know as well so that the worry could stop. "Can you help with that?"

The woman didn't speak with too much confidence, but somehow Ouen didn't figure it was due to ill intentions, or anything of the sort. She just looked... uncertain, the way some kids did when they approached strangers. Given that she wasn't a child, it was sort of odd -- but not the oddest thing he'd seen, not even when it came to people.
He pursed his lips as she explained what kind of help she was looking for, and rubbed his fingers over the rim of his flagon.
"Hm." That was an interesting request.
"I done looked for folks before, yeah. I can do that. I mean, I ain't never had the cause to track down family -- usually it's thieves and criminals an' the like. But I figure I can do an' try my hand at it. You'll prolly have'ta tell me all 'bout 'im -- as much as you's know, at least. Where t'was you last saw 'im, what he was up to, an' how comes it was he done gone missin'. To the best of yours knowledge, at least. You wanna drink?"
He'd finished his, so he was in the process of waving the bartender over anyway.

Knowing that he had searched for people before meant that he was at least good at it, right? Though her brother wasn't a fugitive. Or at least she didn't think he was. And if it turned out that way then she would still want to know so that she might be able to get him out of that kind of trouble. As the man continued to tell her that she would need to tell him all that she knew about her twin she nodded her head. It was an understandable request to make since he would need to know all that he could in order to track him down. As she was asked if she wanted something to drink she shook her head. "Ah, no thank you." Sy was no good at holding her liquor and even if she were to drink something else she wasn't so sure she could hold it down with how nervous she was. "My brother, he's my twin actually.. his name is Cyn." Since she had been away from home for so long she wasn't sure how much she knew about him anymore really. But she would try to give as much as she could. "Last I saw him he has some facial hair but not a lot. Mostly a goatee." Syqvara brought her hand up and pointed to her own face as if the man sitting before her didn't know what that meant. "Uhm.. he.. he's an archer. He's taller than me." Her nerves and the fact that she was asking a stranger for help was impeding her mind so she was forgetting to mention things. "Last I saw him was at our family home in Yera."
