About Ida, the Asteroid:

Ida is a world dominated by plants. While they have technology that's a little more advanced than Earth's, rather than built in metal, plastic and electricity, its built in plants. Plants have the ability to send signals between each other, and that concept has been used to build the same sort of circuitry that our own computers use. While not as advanced as Mercury or Mau, Ida has its own specialties to boast of.

Because of its unique technology system, Ida has always been driven to research plants and their abilities. In particular, they have made great advances in medicine by trading and growing plants that may be found no where else in the galaxy.

One of the reasons plant life is so successful on Ida is that the asteroid gives off a sort of radiation that plants can use, like sunlight, to produce certain nutrients and vitamins. This product allows them to grow faster and stronger than they might have other places and can even extend their life span. Ida's scientists have developed a way of gathering and focusing that radiation and use it much like electricity in their plant technology.

However, unlike electricity, Ida's radiation is very hard to store for any length of time. Their technology is confined to the surface of the asteroid and whatever sister asteroids have the same radiation. Technology that leaves the asteroid is soon out of energy and must be returned to recharge. On the upside, technology that is portable has been grown from plants that do not need to be rooted and can feed off the ambient energy in the air. Look Ma, no batteries!

Because of their ability to grow the materials they need for buildings, technology, etc. there isn't nearly as much mining and oil dependence on Ida as there is on Earth. Most of the material they remove from the ground is used to re-fertilize the top soil when the plants living in it have used it up. They have a rather advanced system for gathering waste for composting as well, since that is a big part of caring for the plants that dominate their society.

Most clothing and culture on Ida could be compared to Earth's idea of Elvish, with a sort of sleek, futuristic feel. Food is dominated by plants, though meat is eaten in small amounts and their buildings are usually grown and trained into shape from special kinds of tree-like plants with hollow insides. Transportation is made from the same kind of plants they make all their portable technology from. It does not need to be fueled as it absorbs the ambient energy of the planet, but it does lack something in the speed and power that Earth vehicles can achieve.

While the radiation Ida gives off is not harmful to humans or animals, it does have an interesting side effect. Prolonged exposure to it causes the skin to produce more pigment than normal and results in patterns that show on the surface like a birthmark. These vary depending on genetic makeup, but for humans can result in striping, baring, spotting or swirling patterns. As it takes years of absorbing this radiation, those who only visit do not develop the patterns, as well as children who leave the asteroid at a young age. This same effect can be seen in some flowers as well, producing patterns and colors that may be found no where but on Ida.

** As a note: Present-day Sailor Ida is unaware of most of this information. All she is aware of is the strange dead plants that look almost like ruins and computer consoles. The radiation Ida gives off is barely a trickle of power and most of the plants that once flourished here are dead. There is only a layer of grass on the ground in patches and a couple flowers here and there.**

What about Dactyl?

Dactyl is Ida's moon. At the moment, I've put actively seeking plot for it on the back burner. Even more than the family, the guardian of Dactyl probably would have been very well known by Orah in her past life. If you have ideas for Ida's moon, feel free to mention them, though!

Concept:
Senshi of Morning Glories:

• Attacks cause hallucinations/synesthesia due to psychoactive ergine found in morning glory seeds and nectar (the Wikipedia article focuses on the historic use of the seeds, but I've seen beekeeping reports on psychoactive honey as a result of morning glory nectar). I could use some help in formulating these and making them unique or at least unique enough to use.
  
• I'm not sure which asteroid I want to claim just yet, though I think I've narrowed it down to Elvira, Nassovia, Bohlinia and Aue.
  
• Past life: Planetary culture is more hippy-esque in attitude, but edgy and futuristic disco-glam in aesthetic with classical undertones in both.
  
• Musical inspiration: "Xanadu" (from the movie/musical of the same name); "Bulletproof" by La Roux (particularly the music video); "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)" among others.

With flowers/plants as the theme, it was a little difficult for me to avoid. My runner-up concept was onions, but morning glories are one of My Flowers, so I had to go with it.

Your group sort of inspired me. I was lucky Ida turned out to be in this family, I ttly didn't plan any of this before hand. xD

Just a random thought to help others who might be looking into this...

... maybe have a list somewhere that states which plant/flower spheres are already taken? Make it an easy reference for all 3nodding heart
