It's only a day after the trainees' arrival and already they were getting a new mission. Standing at the table inside tent #5, the camp's meeting hall, Clarice and H were in quiet discussion as the trainees filter in. She's slightly flustered and aggravated, he patiently bemused, not an altogether unusual sight. Finally, Clarice takes her seat, frowning slightly as the doctor begins, "Well, despite a few surprise set backs in the Sahara, we're behind schedule and have enough supplies to keep you here. Which means I have a use for you, so you won't be sent back to the Island just yet."
A projector, manned by Dwight, turns on, and behind the doctor a CG image of a sphere appears.
"Among other goals, we're currently looking for an artifact."
A closer shot, showing it pearlescent colours.
"A large pearl, about the size of a grapefruit."
Even closer, an intricate tracery of runes.
"Do take a good look, as finding it will make averting Armageddon much less...costly." The doctor smiled grimly, "I am very aware that several of the blackout files concerning the 1999 mission were accessed recently. Many hunters in that mission died from..." he gestured eloquently to the image behind him, "...a distinct lack of proper accessories."
He smiled widened, growing toothy, "Now, I survived that mission, but do remember: I am me, and you are not. So let us improve your odds of survival this time, shall we?"

Artifact Search This mission can be taken on solo or with a group. You can run this mission more than once. Equipment Pack:- red flag set (for marking your trail) - 1 bandage (roll 1d cool - 1 FEAR scanner - GPS mapping app for your cell phone (to record locations of FEAR spikes) - 1 days worth of MRE's - 1 pair of spare socks and an apple with a smiley face on it Division Bonuses:- Life hunters have extra bandage kits (trainees roll 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20; the number of these heals is not unlimited, but rather equal to the number of people in their party) - Death hunters need to scout ahead of the group, looking for signs of danger, avoiding it when possible, and reporting back to the group. They're skilled in avoiding damage. (trainees get 4 auto-damage instead of 5, intermediates get 3 auto-damage instead of 5) - Sun hunters are usually a group's most effective offense force. (During a battle, a trainee is capable of two recoveries, and an intermediate is capable of three.) - Moon hunters create the defensive line that enable groups to take on and survive powerful opponents. (trainees roll to block battle damage using 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20) - Mist Hunters fill the gaps as needed. (trainees can fill each role one time, in battle or in response to prompts, intermediates can fill each role twice. Both use the trainee rolls of other divisions) Prompts: Group leader rolls 1d100. If you have multiples of a division, they can all roll when prompted to try and thwart damage 1-20: A peaceful white landscape. Maybe a little boring, but better than certain alternatives. Careful! There's some precarious footing ahead! If you don't have a Death hunter to scout, everyone gets 5 falling damage! Death hunters: roll 1d4, if you roll 1-3 you successfully navigate the party around an icy path. If you roll 4 everyone gets 5 falling damage. (FEAR scanner reading: low) 21-40: There's a loud cracking sound in the distance! In the distance a large group of penguins flee the area! The ground begins to shake violently under your feet! If you don't have a moon hunter, everyone gets 5 quake damage! Moon hunters: roll 1 d4 for every member of your party to try and protect them. For every 1 you roll, you fail to protect 1 person from damage. (FEAR scanner reading: moderate) 41-60: You're crossing a a large stretch of ice, when someone looks down and sees something odd beneath it. Once you've passed beyond it and reached higher ground, you look back and see what resembles a massive eyes beneath the surface. It suddenly swivels to stare at your party. (FEAR scanner reading: SPIKE) 61-80: You hear something snap behind you, and turn just in time to see the last flag you've planted get sucked underground. When you inspect where it was you see nothing but a hole going down further than your eye can follow. All of your other flags have met a similar fate. Any party without a Life or a Death hunter lose 10 hp due to getting lost. Death & Life hunters: roll 1d4 to scout the way back or tweak your phone's mapping. If you roll a 1, you are immediately successful, no one take damage. Roll a 2 or 3, you take a little while to figure things out, everyone gets 5 dmg. Roll a 4, and you're unsuccessful, in a few hours the search crew finds you and leads you back to the base. (FEAR scanner reading: moderate) 81-100 BOSS FIGHT!Once again the ground beneath you shifts and buckles eventually cracking open as a massive tentacle bursts from the surface and strikes out at your party! When defeated, rather than dissipate, the tentacle slithers back underneath the surface. (FEAR scanner reading: SPIKE) HP: 20x(the number of people in your party) Auto Damage: 5

Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Search for the holy gra--pefruit)) Name: Candace Pennington Division: Mist Status: Intermediate Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Failure in locating any sign of the artifact. We were sidetracked by a tentacled creature that followed us for quite a ways before attacking us. Additional points of extreme importance: While annoying, the creature isn't terribly difficult to deter. We didn't kill it but we were able to make it leave us alone long enough to return to camp. Commendations or warnings: Molly was very effective with her lance! She's improving! Deryk did well in leading us safely as well! Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Search For The Holy Gra--pefruit)) Name: Mallaidh “Molly” Finn Division: Mist Status: Trainee Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Failure in locating an artifact, but we did come across a rather large creature! My team was able to dispatch the one large tentacle with ease. Additional points of extreme importance: Our FEAR scanners spiked whenever the creature was around, and it lurked beneath the ice, following us for quite a distance. It had a very large eye that watched us intently. Also, instead of dissipating, it just slipped back beneath the ice. Commendations or warnings: Everyone on my team did really well! Deryk makes a good leader, and escorted us around an icy patch. Ami defended me once during battle, and finished the tentacle off, and Miss Candace was delivering rather critical hits left and right! Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Search for the holy gra--pefruit)) Name: Amalie Raine Division: Moon Status: Trainee Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: No artifact found. Stalked by some sort of eyeball, then attacked by a tentacle. The tentacle receded, and is now (assumed to be) under the ice somewhere. Additional points of extreme importance: The creature was not killed, merely deterred. Commendations or warnings: Deryk- I believe that's his name, I could be incorrect- was excellent in scouting ahead for narrow footing. Candace performed quite well as a team with Molly. Status of mission: Failed to find the pearl, ran into a large tentacle, we beat it back but unknown if the creature is still... alive. Additional points of extreme importance: Watch out for quakes, they're almost constant up there. Commendations or warnings: Jerry was a good leader, everyone worked well together. I need to up my own performance, Sydney our moon hunter ended up navigating our team around a bad area... I failed when my team needed me most... Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: HERE)) Name: Sasha A. Belrose Division: Life Status: Trainee Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Well, I think that this mission was a great success. We didn't find the orb but we didn't die, either, so I guess that's a good thing. We did come across a big spiky tentacle that we beat back so that we could escape. All in all I think that the mission went well. Additional points of extreme importance: There was a tentacle with spikes on it. We didn't find any sort of orb identical to the one the doctor spoke of. The ground outside of the barriers seems very unstable, so I would please be very wary during future expeditions. Commendations or warnings: Jerry was a wonderful leader, and Sydney showed great talent as a Mist hunter. Wash is the best Moon hunter I know, and .. well, maybe Al needs a little more practice, but overall he did very well too. I think he was just nervous. Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Mission) Name: Jude X. Hargrave Division: Death Status: Intermediate Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Success, for the most part. Doing this on my own was a little more challenging than I anticipated. I mis-read an opponent (a large spiked tentacle) thinking I had defeated it only to have it pop up again later while I was facing a new opponent (another large spiked tentacle) and had to fight them both. Both targets were eliminated but toward the end I felt very rough around the edges - but it doesn't help that I fell several times here and there either. I have mapped out several spikes on the GPS. Additional points of extreme importance: I think the tentacles are probably a part of a larger beast but since I couldn't get a good look at it I can't really say for sure on that. Commendations or warnings: Since I did this on my own I guess I can't really warn or commendate anyone. Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Singing in the Snow)) Name: Sydney Lowe Division: Mist Status: trainee Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Failure. Trying to find the artifact resulted in several dangerous situations where the ground was not as stable as it seemed to be, then we were attacked by a large tentacle coming out from the ice. It grabbed Sasha and inflicted a lot of damage on the team as well. In order to recover we returned to the base, without finding the artifact. Additional points of extreme importance: I don't think using a bazooka type weapon in a snowy, dangerous area is quite... intelligent. Commendations or warnings: My teammates did an excellent job given the circumstances. Wash, Jerry, Aleister, and Sasha--I'm afraid I didn't catch everyone's last names. Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form ((OOC: Its Dangerous To Go Alone)) Name: Mallaidh “Molly” Finn Division: Mist Status: Trainee Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Failure once again, to locate an artifact. I accompanied Otto and once again, we were attacked by a giant tentacle. I didn’t see the eye this time. Additional points of extreme importance: The FEAR scanner always spikes when the creature is near, and it will steal the flags you set up! The tentacle slipped beneath the ice once more. Commendations or warnings: Otto finished off this tentacle with a strong blow! I agree that by signing this, all information above is accurate and can be used for or against me:

Antarctica Research Facility Mission Report Form Singing in the Snow Name: Jerry Collins Division: Sun Status: Intermediate Mission ranking: Artifact [SS] Pre-Apocalypse
Status of mission: Failure? We did not find the artifact, but we did get some good exploring done! Additional points of extreme importance: Horrible, awful spiked tentacles bursting through the ground! I have no idea what they belonged to, but it was certainly no good. Commendations or warnings: I was very worried about miss Sasha when the tentacle got her, but she quickly made mince meat out of it! She is not as frail as one would think! Wash was a very good moon, keeping us mostly out of harm's way, and Miss Syd filled in where was needed beautifully! I do worry about Mr. Al, he needs a bit more confidence, I suppose, and nearly got himself hurt several times during the mission.
