Artifact Search This mission can be taken on solo or with a group. You can run this mission more than once. Equipment Pack:- red flag set (for marking your trail) - 1 bandage (roll 1d cool - 1 FEAR scanner - GPS mapping app for your cell phone (to record locations of FEAR spikes) - 1 days worth of MRE's - 1 pair of spare socks and an apple with a smiley face on it Division Bonuses:- Life hunters have extra bandage kits (trainees roll 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20; the number of these heals is not unlimited, but rather equal to the number of people in their party) - Death hunters need to scout ahead of the group, looking for signs of danger, avoiding it when possible, and reporting back to the group. They're skilled in avoiding damage. (trainees get 4 auto-damage instead of 5, intermediates get 3 auto-damage instead of 5) - Sun hunters are usually a group's most effective offense force. (During a battle, a trainee is capable of two recoveries, and an intermediate is capable of three.) - Moon hunters create the defensive line that enable groups to take on and survive powerful opponents. (trainees roll to block battle damage using 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20) - Mist Hunters fill the gaps as needed. (trainees can fill each role one time, in battle or in response to prompts, intermediates can fill each role twice. Both use the trainee rolls of other divisions) Prompts: Group leader rolls 1d100. If you have multiples of a division, they can all roll when prompted to try and thwart damage 1-20: A peaceful white landscape. Maybe a little boring, but better than certain alternatives. Careful! There's some precarious footing ahead! If you don't have a Death hunter to scout, everyone gets 5 falling damage! Death hunters: roll 1d4, if you roll 1-3 you successfully navigate the party around an icy path. If you roll 4 everyone gets 5 falling damage. (FEAR scanner reading: low) 21-40: There's a loud cracking sound in the distance! In the distance a large group of penguins flee the area! The ground begins to shake violently under your feet! If you don't have a moon hunter, everyone gets 5 quake damage! Moon hunters: roll 1 d4 for every member of your party to try and protect them. For every 1 you roll, you fail to protect 1 person from damage. (FEAR scanner reading: moderate) 41-60: You're crossing a a large stretch of ice, when someone looks down and sees something odd beneath it. Once you've passed beyond it and reached higher ground, you look back and see what resembles a massive eyes beneath the surface. It suddenly swivels to stare at your party. (FEAR scanner reading: SPIKE) 61-80: You hear something snap behind you, and turn just in time to see the last flag you've planted get sucked underground. When you inspect where it was you see nothing but a hole going down further than your eye can follow. All of your other flags have met a similar fate. Any party without a Life or a Death hunter lose 10 hp due to getting lost. Death & Life hunters: roll 1d4 to scout the way back or tweak your phone's mapping. If you roll a 1, you are immediately successful, no one take damage. Roll a 2 or 3, you take a little while to figure things out, everyone gets 5 dmg. Roll a 4, and you're unsuccessful, in a few hours the search crew finds you and leads you back to the base. (FEAR scanner reading: moderate) 81-100 BOSS FIGHT!Once again the ground beneath you shifts and buckles eventually cracking open as a massive tentacle bursts from the surface and strikes out at your party! When defeated, rather than dissipate, the tentacle slithers back underneath the surface. (FEAR scanner reading: SPIKE) HP: 20x(the number of people in your party) Auto Damage: 5

Jerry was still feeling... out of sorts, but mostly human and intent on paying attention, especially when H was concerned. He straightened his jacket, lips pursing as he tried to glance around for any... good backup.
His face lit when he spotted a familiar and welcome face among the other preparing trainees, waving her down with a trembling hand, "Ah! Sasha! Are... are you feeling alright? Ate? F-finished resting?" If she wasn't up for the excursion... Bother. With all of the chaos and... penguin business going on, he hadn't had a chance to check in on her. He kept assuring himself he hadn't abandoned her. She was a grown woman, after all. Just... one that had seen a lot in the last 24 hours. It was alright... You never got over it, you just got used to it.
Or at least learn how to apply the proper mental blocks.
Even so, he was smiling, and his fish obsession had waned for the time being.

Aleister was trying to forget about the Sahara, everything that happened. He listened to H, dressed in winter clothing ready for whatever they probably thought they needed to go out and do.
So scouting. He nodded as he listened and made notes of what he was suppose to be doing. Well when the mission details were done, he looked a little worried. But, what was the worse that could happen? They were going to be in groups.
"So.... we're going up the mountain huh?" Perhaps his screaming and running for his life occasionally would pay off. Well the screaming wouldn't, the rest of it might.

Wash shifted uncomfortably. The long underwear he'd had to don under his clothes for the arctic weather was so itchy. He pulled his parka further down over his face. At least the biting cold was sufficient to distract him from darker, more terrifying thoughts. He would never look at insects the same again, he thought, swallowing bile. That poor girl...
Whatever, he needed to jump on a mission. Sitting around moping had never helped before, it certainly wouldn't now. He was going to go out in the world, and blast it, he was going to cope. If only in memory.
"Hey...Aleister!" He waved to the familiar looking hunter. "Yeah, sounds like it, man. Dang if it's not freezing. If it starts really snowing I dunno how we'll make our way back, markers or not." That was an unpleasant thought.
At least Antartica doesn't have insects, Sally murmured helpfully. Wash winced visibly.

Sasha was mumbling something under her breath -- a song? It was hard to tell, and absolutely wasn't english. When Jerry approached, Sasha looked surprised to see him. A large, bright smile spread across her face. Her eyes were glossy, her hair - while clean, she'd finally discovered the bath tent and had slipped in for a quick wash - had seen better days. Someone might've forgotten to pack a brush. The earbuds were still there; one in her ear, one resting against her chest.
"Jerry! Oh, my. H-how are you? It feels like," she waved a hand, her smile growing broader, "I haven't seen you in ages!" Sasha flushed before turning to greet the other team members, her hand resting on Jerry's shoulder for a brief moment, patting gently.
"A nice group, hmm? I'm Sasha."
Her eyes unfocused, but the smile remained.

She'd seen Sasha, and Syd usually followed when she saw one of her friends, especially when there was supposed to be a mission. She smiled slightly as she saw the rest of the group, heading over to them and standing beside the other female. "Are you going on the mission?" she asked. "I'm a mist, I could be helpful."
Izy praised her.
And suddenly she felt rather embarrassed. "Unless you've got enough, that is."

Jerry's brows knit with concern. He was... intimately familiar with that look.
She... she would be alright. Trust she would be alright. And besides, he could watch her if she kept close. "Right! Right, we've got a Life and Sun and... WASH!" he beamed at the man standing nearby, grabbing him by the arm to drag him backward, "Just the Moon we need!"

Aleister watched as Jerry dragged over wash. Lofting a brow. "What am I, chopped liver?" He asked and gave a shrug looking at the gps map they were given oh well. He had to scout anyways he'd be in front of everyone so didn't really matter.
"Anyways, should I go a head and see what's up there." He jabbed his finger towards the mountain.

"The more the merrier, I'm sure," Wash said warmly to Syd, before being dragged away by a seemingly enthusiastic Jerry.
"Hey, man, hey!" he cried, mock protesting. "I'm the front line man again, eh? That's cold hearted." He chuckled. It felt good to laugh, and he relaxed a bit.
"Hold on now, Al - can I call you that? - are we all ready to go? Everyone got something to eat and some rest, I hope," he inquired in his best dad voice.

Find some artifa-" He cut short as a loud noise echoed in the distance, penguins scattering and for a moment, Jerry looked like he was about to bolt as well. Right. Deep breaths. "Ah... R-right, just... forward and-" and then the ground leaped.

As the sound of ice cracking and birds squawking madly in the distance crashed over them, Wash barely had time to think. He reached out to grab Syd and Sasha's shoulders, yanking them back into a nearby aclove and stepping in front of them, shield out.
And just in time, as a wicked and jagged series of cracks took out the ice immediately in front of their party. He squinted through the fine mist of powdered snow that had been dislodged in the quake - were Jerry and Al alright?
"Hey, you guys! You ok?!"
Jerry: 5 damage! Al: 5 damage! Sasha: protected Syd: protected Wash: protected

... He had reacted so much faster than she had, Syd thought, having not even been able to react to his moving her and Sasha. That--a part of her wanted to protest, to tell him that she was a misty for a good reason, and she would have been helpful, but another part of her knew she probably wouldn't have. He had reacted faster than she had.
Syd ignored Izy, a thought in her mind as she stared up at Wash. She would watch him closely this trip and learn what it was to be a Moon!

As they set off on their mission, Sasha started humming a tuneless little song. It wasn't something she even seemed aware of, and even as the ground rumbled beneath her feet, Sasha kept humming. It was a wibbly noise, broken only when the ground seemed to tremble beneath her feet.
"Jerry?!"
Thankfully Wash steadied her, pulling the trainee to safety. Sasha's eyes were more focused than they had been previous to this moment, and as the ground ceased its trembling, Sasha stepped forward.
"...Jerry? Al? Is.. is everyone okay?"

Aleister was... well kinda in front of them and before he could yell a warning the ground started to crack and everything just went down hill from that.
He didn't scream this time nope. He was trying to run as fast as he could to out run the whole thing.... though that wasn't a smart idea. He tripped over a large crack jutting up and rolled to a stop over the Aclove that Wash had pulled the girls into.
.... "I........'m finnnneeeeee........" He answered sounding a bit dizzy and out of breath.
HP: 35/40?
