Otto had a straggler following him. Molly, that freckled annoyance, insisting he shouldn't do a mission all alone. What does a guy have to do to be alone around here?

Otto tried ignoring her, despite the whining. He had a feeling it wouldn't work.

Quote:

21-40: There's a loud cracking sound in the distance! In the distance a large group of penguins flee the area! The ground begins to shake violently under your feet! If you don't have a moon hunter, everyone gets 5 quake damage!
Moon hunters: roll 1 d4 for every member of your party to try and protect them. For every 1 you roll, you fail to protect 1 person from damage.
(FEAR scanner reading: moderate)

The loud crack caught his attention right away and Otto stopped walking. Looking for the source, he noticed a flock of... penguins running away. "Weird.." Otto got out his Fear scanner in case this wasn't just ice cracking on it's own. If anything happened, he'd know about it before hand.

And sure enough, the scanner began getting moderate Fear readings. "s**t.."

But suddenly, the ground began shaking. A lot. Otto could barely hold his balance. He barely managed not to get himself hurt through the ordeal.

- Death hunters need to scout ahead of the group, looking for signs of danger, avoiding it when possible, and reporting back to the group. They're skilled in avoiding damage. (trainees get 4 auto-damage instead of 5, intermediates get 3 auto-damage instead of 5)

Yup, as soon as Molly came across Otto trying to go alone, she immediately grabbed another bag and was ready to go out.

Otto, really!” She insisted as she tagged after the Death Hunter through the snow and ice. “You really don’t want to do this by yourself! There’s a giant beast with a giant eyeball underneath the ice with a giant tentacle and it didn’t dissipate an—“

She was cut off at the sound of a large crack, and stiffened as a group of penguins fled the scene. “Ah, be careful!” She cried out, moving forward to try and defend. She happened to reach the lad too late, but was able to defend herself in time.

Otto: Damaged (sorry C : )
Molly: Safe

"I'm careful. Totally careful." Otto grouched, shivering and continuing onward. Snow was building up inside his slip on shoes, and he cursed himself for never wearing socks. He'd save the spare pair he had gotten for after.

"What was all that noise about eyeball tentacles? You seriously got a screw loose, woman." He called back to her, snorting in amusement.

61-80: You hear something snap behind you, and turn just in time to see the last flag you've planted get sucked underground. When you inspect where it was you see nothing but a hole going down further than your eye can follow. All of your other flags have met a similar fate. Any party without a Life or a Death hunter lose 10 hp due to getting lost.
Death & Life hunters: roll 1d4 to scout the way back or tweak your phone's mapping. If you roll a 1, you are immediately successful, no one take damage. Roll a 2 or 3, you take a little while to figure things out, everyone gets 5 dmg. Roll a 4, and you're unsuccessful, in a few hours the search crew finds you and leads you back to the base.

Something snapped, and it wasn't Otto's patience. Turning, he found all his flags had been sucked into the ground. He cursed under his breath and looked down into one of the holes, only to find it bottomless. "Great... now I gotta figure out a way back.." Luckily for Otto, this was something a Death Trainee was made for. While the other holes had been long filled in with snow, he at least had a general idea of how to get back.

However, his pondering got them lost, only for a short while. The wear and tear of the elements took a small toll, but eventually Otto managed to map out their path.

I’m not doubting your ability to be careful I just—“

She whipped around to stare at where the flags had been. “The tentacle did it!” She cried. “It’s really real, Otto! We have to be on the look out!” As Otto worked on finding their way back, Molly was keeping a vigilant eye out for the giant eye and a giant tentacle, a bit nervous an anxious as the elements wore at her. Things seemed to go just a wee bit smoother when she worked in a larger group…

81-100 BOSS FIGHT!

Once again the ground beneath you shifts and buckles eventually cracking open as a massive tentacle bursts from the surface and strikes out at your party! When defeated, rather than dissipate, the tentacle slithers back underneath the surface.

Otto slapped his palm against his face and whirled around to face her, Fear Scanner beeping madly in hand. "OH MY GOD, MOLLY! There is NO tentacle monster! This is the Antarctic! NOT Japan! Get yer damn head out of the clouds and---" Little did Otto realize, slowly and soundlessly, a large tentacle was climbing up through the ice behind him.

The sudden and loud crack as it fully emerged caused Otto to jump and turn around, eyes widening at the sight behind him. He was too late to dodge it as it swiped at him and Molly, tripping him to the ground.

Molly was not listening to Otto was he grilled her about there being no such thing as giant tentacles in the Antartic. No. In fact she was staring straight at the one that was rising behind Otto with this look on her face:

Hey…wait…was that tentacle also waving one of their little flags at them? It totally was. Molly was super distracted, and got whapped for it.

Otto got himself up, quietly pouting that the face Molly had made wasn't because his scolding scared her. Shoot.

The small blonde stuffed his gear back into his bag and summoned Tenya, taking a swing at the creature but getting a face full of tentacle attack in the process. b*****d almost broke his shades.

As Vaska snapped at her to quit gawking at the fact it was waving a flag at them, Molly shook her head and then summoned her lance.

It seemed the ice wouldn’t be her friend once again though, as the Mist trainee started to slip and slide around, barely managing to nick the thing. Though she did shoot Otto a look. A look that said ‘IT’S REAAAAAAAAAAAL!’

Yeah.

He huffed, rolled his eyes, and after another slap from a tentacle, attacked again.

Eh heh…” Molly grinned sheepishly at Otto, yelping as she got smacked by the tentacle again.

She managed to secure her footing this time, and thrust her lance at the tentacle. Finally! A decent hit in.

Oh, Molly was dealing with it alright, as was Otto. Because it was REAL. SHE WASN’T MAKING IT UP.

Molly winced as the thing whacked her again, and keeping her same footing from before, she thrust her lance back out at it, getting another sold hit in. All things aside, this was really starting to concern her. This was the second time she went out on this run, and she was fighting another tentacle, and there was no sign of the artifact yet. It was concerning.

Otto somehow felt he needed to beat Molly up a lot after this was done. Oh well.

Tenya, fully charged, was egging Otto on. It was time to lay the real pain on this monster of the deep! Otto held his weapon up high, the runes glowing bright red. He could feel the energy filling up, ready for action.
He yelled out as he winded up, moving to throw the weapon hard but then?

Tenya's power just poofed, and otto slipped on the ice and fell.

Vaska cackled in her head as Otto failed, and egged Molly on to show him how a real charged attack was done.

The Mist trainee’s lance started to whirl, but the spot she had been using as secure footing failed her. Molly ended up slipping, falling right onto her bottom as her lance drilled at the empty air. Uh oh.
