Uptown Girl
Isolde's Journal and Contents

User Image

Katya and Derek have two houses, the city house and the country house. The country house is more accurately a mansion, about a fifteen minute limo ride from the Academy, and where Isolde normally lives. Her room, prepared by a professional designer before they picked her up, is decorated in painfully bright pink. Isolde prefers blues and purples, but will never mention that to her parents. Her journal is an old bound collection of color swatches she found one day in the attic with Marta. Marta has written "Isolde" on the front cover. Isolde keeps it in her nightstand.

Isolde

Isolde lives up to being an angel. She is rarely out of temper and rarely appears less then happy. She puts everyone else's happiness first, unless she is truly scared. Isolde's name means "fair one," and, like the Isolde of legend, she's already beautiful at the toddler stage. She's going to grow up to be a knockout.
Likes: the Staff, Dad and Mother, dressing up, helping, bacon sandwiches, moments of privacy, friends, tag, kiwis, pumpkin pie

Dislikes: being ignored, being scared or abandoned, grapes and pears, being dirty, when her parents are angry
PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 9:35 pm

Powers

A Soothing Cup
Level 1
By focusing on them, Isolde can calm a person's emotions and help them to think more steadily. She must keep focus on that person, and can only focus on one at a time. This will only help "normal" emotions: berserking is beyond her. This will wear her out quickly; if the person does not want to be calmed, Isolde will likely be exhausted before she can calm them.
Level 2
Isolde can now calm a berserker. She must concentrate, but using this power no longer wears her out, unless the person is actively resisting.

A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down
Level 1

Isolde can heal people if they believe she can. The stronger the faith they have in her, the stronger she can help heal. At toddler stage, anything beyond scrapes and small burns are beyond her, although she can act as an "assist" to another healing meta, much like tea can help you recover, but you ought to take your medicine as well.
Level 2
Isolde's faith in herself allows her to heal. She is still only capable of dealing with minor injuries.

Reading the Leaves
Level 1

Isolde can make very small prophecies, but only based on the dregs from someone's tea leaves. The person getting read must drink the tea down, and Isolde will interpret them. This does not work for major prophecies: at this level, Isolde may predict what color shirt will be worn tomorrow or if it will rain.
Level 2
Isolde can make more explicit prophecies from someone's tea leaves. She can see up to two weeks in the future, but not major things. She might be able to tell someone if they'll get to play with a friend or if their party will be a success, but she couldn't tell them anything that's life changing.

Resistances
Isolde is exceptionally resistant to heat.

Weaknesses
Like tea, too much of anything can ruin Isolde. It would be especially easy for Isolde to become addicted to anything, more so if people suggest it to her/ push it on her, as Isolde hates to disappoint.

Households

Derek
Isolde's father, and the parent who wanted a child in the first place. He doesn't know much about parenting, and leaves it mainly up to the staff. Occasionally he remembers Isolde is his daughter, and will read her a bedtime story. Usually, he's too busy keeping Katya happy to worry about his daughter. Derek has inherited the family firm, that has something to do with technology and development. He's not to clear on what his job actually is, but it seems to involve lots of golf, a nice mixture of polo, and a good deal of fancy parties with lots of champagne.
Katya
Isolde's mother, and not at all enthusiastic about the job. Katya doesn't really worry about Isolde unless she causes trouble or interferes with her golf game or her social life. Katya used to be a model, but retired when she met Derek, who is even richer then she is.
Piotr
Katya's father is filthy stinking rich. He seems pleased that he has a granddaughter, and promises to visit sometime "soon."
THE STAFF of the COUNTRY HOUSE
Marta
The housekeeper has raised her own children, and ends up nannying Isolde. Eventually, she is sure, the missus will hire a proper nanny when she notices that Marta's time is being diverted by the child. She thinks Isolde is incredibly sweet, and a pleasure to have around, especially as the girl seems to genuinely enjoy helping Mickey polish the silverware.
Mickey
The butler greatly enjoys Isolde's company, but rarely takes time to play with her, as duties come first.
Oliver
The driver loves nothing more then to take Isolde for rides iin the Bently and teach her everything he knows, and, at a well-traveled 56, he knows quite a lot about everything.
Jane and Candy
Maids. Like Isolde, but focus on their work.
Pacifism Malone
The cook. His parents were hippies. Isolde loves his bacon sandwiches.

Songs
"Uptown Girl"
by Billy Joel
Uptown girl
She's been living in her uptown world
I bet she's never had a backstreet guy
I bet her momma never told her why

I'm gonna try for an uptown girl
She's been living in her white bread world
As long as anyone with hot blood can
And now she's looking for a downtown man
That's what I am

And when she knows what
She wants from her type
And when she wakes up
And makes up her mind

She'll see I'm not so tough
Just because
I'm in love with an uptown girl
You know I've seen her in her uptown world
She's getting tired of her high class toys
And all her presents from her uptown boys
She's got a choice

Uptown girl
You know I can't afford to buy her pearls
But maybe someday when my ship comes in
She'll understand what kind of guy I've been
And then I'll win

And when she's walking
She's looking so fine
And when she's talking
She'll say that she's mine

She'll say I'm not so tough
Just because
I'm in love
With an uptown girl
She's been living in her white bread world
As long as anyone with hot blood can
And now she's looking for a downtown man
That's what I am

Uptown girl
She's my uptown girl
You know I'm in love
With an uptown girl

Lips of An Angel

by Hinder
Honey why are you calling me so late?
It's kinda hard to talk right now
Honey why are you crying, is everything okay?
I gotta whisper cause I can't be too loud

Well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And yes I've dreamt of you too
And does he know you're talking to me?
Will it start a fight?
No I don't think she has a clue

Well my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
Honey why are you calling me so late?

Mother and Daddy Play Dress Up
Toddler Journal Entry One

The writing is surprisingly neat and well written. The explanation why is in the trashcan next to the journal. In Marta's handwriting, most of the journal entry is written neatly, line by line. Isolde obviously recopied it with her marker into the swatchbook. This page is on a pale gold swatch.
Daddy and Mother are going to the city for three days. They are going to important parties. Daddy said parties are like meetings but they have bubbly there.
I do not know what bubbly is but no one answered when I asked.
Daddy is wearing a fancy black suit called a tux or a penguin suit.
Mother wore a fancy white dress.
Daddy said they would bring me back a Present and I love You, Isolde, but Mother just said Hurry up we'll be late. She forgot to say good bye, but she'll be back soon.
Pacifism made me a bacon sandwich for dinner. I got to eat in the kitchen since Mother and Daddy aren't home. Everyone says we will have a Fine Time, and they can play with me more now.
I miss my Daddy, and Mother, too.

Please, Daddy? Please?
Personal RP

The night that Derek and Katya got home, Isolde had already been tucked into bed for some time. So she didn't see them until that morning at breakfast.
Katya had copious amounts of coffee, complaining of a hangover, whatever that was, but Derek seemed fairly normal. He smiled when Isolde walked into the room.

"Heya, pumpkin, how was it while we were gone? Did everyone keep you busy?"

"Yeah, Daddy! I helped Mickey in the silver cabinet and Oliver and I went back to the duckpond and paddled in the pedal boats and Pacifism took me to make some cups of my own and I met a boy named River and can we go on a boat trip on the yacht and go exploring? Oliver said he'd be the captain and Pacisfism said he'd make a picnic basket!"

Derek smiled benevolently.

"I don't see why you can't take your little friends out on the marina for a few hours, if their parents say it is ok. And if Oliver and maybe Marta or Mickey goes along with you."

"THANKS DADDY!"

"ISOLDE!" Katya glared at her daughter. "Please be quiet. Will you wait in the hall? I need to . . . talk to your father for a minute."

"Sorry, Mother." Isolde left the breakfast room and shut the door behind her, but stood in the hall just outside. She could hear her mother yelling at her dad, but only making out a few words like "yacht," "grubby," "expensive," and "brats."
Isolde started to droop a bit. Mother didn't want her to have a party on the yacht. Mother never wanted to do anything with her, and now she was going to stop her fun.

Isolde sat on the floor outside the door and hugged her knees, and tried not to cry. She had promised River a boat ride and now everything would be ruined.

Sometime later, after more shouting, Katya stomped out the door and down the hall. Derek sat at the table with his head in his hands, but looked up when Isolde peered back into the room around the door.

"Hey, pumpkin. Don't worry, we got it sorted out. You guys can go out for a few hours on the harbor, but next week, when Mommy and I are visiting the Vineyards, alright? You can get Oliver to be the captain and whoever else you want to go with you. Have Marta send out the invitations. But first, I'd like to give you your present."
Derek picked Isolde up and put her on his shoulders. Luckily, the ceilings and doors were all high so Isolde had no need to worry about ducking. They went up the stairs and into the library, where there was a blue and pink wrapped package on the table. Derek set Isolde down beside it.
"Go, on, sweetie, unwrap it."
Isolde squealed when she did. It was a series of big, hardcover books, heavy for her to lift, but she was learning her letters and she knew that S T O R were the first four letters in stories.
"I know Oliver is always telling you stories, so I thought I would get some to tell you."
"Thanks, Daddy! They're great!" Isolde threw her arms around Derek.

"You're mother wanted to just get you a pony, but I thought you'd like the books."
"She did not," Isolde giggled.

Derek smiled, a little sadly. Isolde didn't have to know that she was right.

Time To Party
Journal Entry Two

Once again, the writing is surprisingly neat for a toddler, but the lines are copied over from Marta's handwriting.

Tomorrow my friends Ask and River are coming over to go on a boat trip with me.
Pacifism and I make lots of food.
I made Marta drink some tea so I could see if it would rain tomorrow. I can see things in tea sometimes. The tea said it would rain tomorrow night but not during the day.

Mother is in a Very Bad Mood because of the boat. Mickey says it is because Daddy stood up for once. Daddy stands up all the time. I don't understand that.

Daddy read me lots of stories this week. But yesterday he said not for a while, Isolde, Mother's getting upset. Oliver said he'd tell me a story before he left for the night but it's not the same at all.
