Eno wasn't particularly rich, but he wasn't bad off, either. He liked to say that he made enough to get by, but apparently "making enough to get by" was enough to go to one of the more upscale ceramic shops in town. River had broken more than a few of their plates and bowls, so he'd decided to take him out and make new ones. But just any old ceramic shop wouldn't do, no, Eno was picky about his dinnerware, so he'd chosen one of the more expensive ceramic shops with a perfect reputation.
Eno held the door open for River and then stepped inside. "Hello! Feel free to look around and pick out whatever you want to work on. We have aprons for you to wear if you're worried about getting paint on your clothes." One of the ladies that ran the shop greeted them as soon as the door shut behind them. Eno simply nodded in acknowledgment before taking River's hand in his. "All right, you chose three bowls, and I'll choose three plates." He lead River over to the dinnerware section to see their choices.
After picking out three of each, they grabbed a table and some paints, and then an apron for them both before settling in to paint. "Make sure to do three layers, okay? Just let the first one dry before painting over it." Eno watched as River smothered his paintbrush in blue paint and then started to drag it over the bowl. "Okay, Dadda!" He responded cheerily.

With Derek and Katya still in the big city, it fell to the rest of the staff to keep an eye on the nanny-less Isolde. After she accidentally broke one of the good china bowls, Pacifism decided it would be for the best to get her some dishware that Katya wouldn't have a fit over her breaking. Pacifism drove them to a ceramic shop in his Jeep; Isolde looked around excitedly from her booster seat as he pulled into a parking spot. "Here we go, Beauty," the cook said, using his nickname for her. "You can make whatever sorts of dishes you want and you won't get in trouble for breaking them."
The shop clerk looked slightly alarmed at a second toddler in the shop at the same time, but they both seemed calm enough. Pacifism pulled down an assortment of plates, cups, and bowls, and thanked the lord that his employers had an expense account set up for him. He and Isolde got into aprons and sat near another toddler and his father. "What do you want to paint, Beauty?" "I'm going to paint the duck pond and paper boats and my Archangel friend! And Daddy and Mommy all dressed up. And bacon sandwiches!" She looked over at the other toddler who was working with blue paint on a bowl. "Are you painting a duck pond too?"

Eno's fluffy white ears involuntarily perked up at the mention of an "archangel." The papers he'd gotten with River stated that he was going to grow a pair of angel wings at some point in his life, but it didn't say when. Were kids already growing them? That one kid, Hayden, he had devil's wings, so Eno had ignored them for the most part.
River looked up from serious concentration on covering every inch of his bowl in blue paint to see Isolde sitting next to him. "Nope! Imma make a sky with clouds innit." He replied with a grin. "Dadda can I have white paint?" He pushed the pallet toward his father eagerly. "Not yet. Wait for that layer to dry and then paint it blue again. If you leave it like that it won't be nearly blue enough to make a sky." Eno shook his head and didn't even look up from the design he was painting on his plate.
"Oh, okay." River pulled the pallet back and then stared at his bowl as if it would dry faster that way. After a few seconds he gave that up and turned to Isolde. Since she'd spoken to him first, he didn't mind keeping up the conversation. "I'm River, who're you?" He grinned again, blinking his eyes a few times.

Isolde had picked up a brush and was starting to fill in a plate with blue to make her duckpond. "I'm Isolde, and I'm gonna be an angel someday when I grow wings like my friend but right now I'm painting plates so I don't break any of Mother's nice plates and that way she won't get mad." She looked at his bowl, and at her plate. "Pacifism, should I let it dry and repaint it like River did?" Pacifism was flipping through a copy of Knives and Cleavers. He looked up, and said "That's probably a good idea. Why don't you start on another plate while that one dries?"

"An angel?" River perked up immediately. "Dadda, I want to be an angel when I grow up, too!" He looked to Eno excitedly. Eno looked up and stared at him awkwardly. He'd never spoken to River about getting wings, but then again, it was just the other day that he saw River use his powers for the first time. "You will be, soon enough." He nodded slowly and then returned to his painting.
River gasped, he hadn't expected that response at all. "What do angels do?" He looked to Isolde once more, expecting her to have some sort of an answer. "Dadda is it dry enough?" He turned his attention back to Eno for a split second. Eno looked up and nodded in approval, and so River started smothering his bowl in blue paint again.

Isolde started to paint on another paint a shaped that looked vaguely human and had two sets of blobs coming out of its back which may at one point have been intended as wings. "My friend has two wings," she continued, "and he says he knows lots of people with wings that are gonna grow up to be angels but some of them aren't going to be angels so I don't know what he's talking about. He helped me to build paper boats and sail them. Do you like boats?"

"Two wings?" River thought about it for a moment, but couldn't really picture it in his head. Thankfully he spied what Isolde was painting and figured it must look something like that. "Oh I know! My friend Hayden has bat wings. He says it's 'cause he's a deemon, but I dunno what a deemon is. Dadda won't tell me. He says they're bad, but I like Hayden. He teached me how to play pirates." River giggled a bit. "Paper boats? Like oreegamee? Dadda showed me how to make a crane, but I can't do it." River frowned for a second, but perked up again at the mention of liking boats. "Boats are cool! I wanna ride on one someday, but Dadda says it'll be awhile 'cause I'm too little." He pouted again, casting a glance to Eno to see if he was getting himself in trouble.
Eno appeared to not even be listening, as he was completely absorbed in the now very intricate pattern he was painting on the plate.

Isolde liked River. He was good at chatting. That's what Mother called it when people talked. Isolde was also a good chatter. "My friend has feathery wings like a bird. I don't know what a deemon is either. Maybe it's like a . . . like. . .I don't know what it's like. These were paper boats like made out of newspaper but I don't know if that's an oreogamey or not and then Oliver took us out on one of the bigger boats but we accidentally toppled it over and then we got all wet, but Oliver says when it get's warmer Mother and Daddy will take me down to the yacht and he'll pilot us around and the yacht will be too big to topple over because it's a lot bigger then a pedal boat but I don't know how big it is. And Oliver said he was gonna teach me a song about being on a boat but then Mickey smacked him with the polishing rag and said oh no you won't, but I don't know why." Isolde paused to switch paint pots to add generous globs of orangey-brown to the top of the human figures head, then returned to her duck pond plate. "I bet if I ask Oliver he can take you to the yacht too because he said since I was so little I had to have floaties and a floaty vest on such a big boat."

Eno couldn't help but look up and stare at the little girl that was chattering to his son. Did she say yacht? If there was one thing that Eno hated more than regular humans, it was rich humans. He knew this girl was not human, but her parents had to be. But, River had obviously taken a liking to her so he couldn't bring himself to tell him not to talk to her anymore... at least not without a good reason, and she wasn't really providing one. He couldn't very well say "we don't talk to rich people." That was absurd.
"You has a boat?" River's eyes widened in awe. "Dadda, Isolde has a boat!" He exclaimed excitedly. "Yes, I heard. That's very neat." Eno nodded and put on his best smile, which was of course fake, but after years of practice the difference wasn't noticeable anymore.
"Oh I swimmed with floaties once! Dadda took me to the swimming pool and it was lots of fun." River grinned widely, he loved swimming. "I'ma good swimmer, are you a good swimmer? I like swimming, its lots of fun... What's a yacht? Is that like a boat? It must be really big if it can't topple over... Dadda! How big is a yacht!?" River turned his attention back to Eno, who looked up with a thoughtful expression.
"About as big as our house." He finally responded. He wasn't entirely sure if that was true, since he hadn't seen a yacht in person, but their house was fairly small and he knew that there were boats that were bigger than it. "REALLY?" River near about fell off his chair. He couldn't believe it... a boat that was bigger than their house!

"I don't know how big it is because I've never seen it yet." Isolde frowned. "But pretty big, I think. Pacifism says there are parties on it in the summer. I'm not very good at swimming yet but I'm going to get better. I fell in the pond and I didn't have any floaties but I came to the top anyway and I was okay. If Daddy says it's okay you should come visit me when we go on the yacht and I can throw a party like Daddy and everyone will wear floaties and we can have cream soda and Pacifism can make everyone bacon sandwiches." Now content with the amount of blue on the plate, Isolde began blobbing in yellow and brown ducks, and white paper boats.

"That sounds real fun." River grinned, and then started to put fluffy white clouds on his bowl. "Dadda can I go to Isolde's yacht if her Daddy says it's okay?" He looked up and stared at Eno with a most pleading expression.
Eno thought about it for a very long, long time. Sure, River would have plenty of fun, but he'd probably have to deal with listening to the blatherings of rich people. "Y-yes..." He finally responded quietly. He'd have to stop thinking about himself so much, that was selfish and River was likely to suffer because of it.
"Yaaaaay~! You should give Isolde the phone number so she can call." He grinned, stopping his painting to wait for the clouds to dry.

"Pacifism, can you write it down? My hands are all paint-y." Isolde displayed her largely duck-pond blue hands. Pacifism fished out a pen from his pocket and found an empty margin in Knives and Cleavers. He looked at Eno expectantly.
Meanwhile Isolde was planning out yachting adventures with River. "Oliver's been everywhere in the world so we'll get him to take us to see Pirates and we'll go see a mermaid cove and dolphins and starfish and to a haunted ship in Japan that he saw and we can see polar bears but we'll have to wear coats for that and crocodiles and we'll see the Lock Nest monster that Oliver says is very hard to see. I'm sure if we try really hard and use telly scopes we can though."

Eno mentally sighed and turned to Pacifism to recite their phone number. All the while he had to keep reminding himself that it was for River's sake.
"Realllly? Ohoh can we see the panda bears? I like panda bears." River had a hard time taking it all in. That seemed like an awful lot to do in just one day. "Is the Lock Nest monster scary? What if it comes after us..?" At that point River adopted a worried expression, as if he feared that the monster would come and try to eat them.

"I think the Lock Nest monster is really just a big fish, but I'll ask Oliver if it eats people. If it eats people we won't go see it," Isolde said firmly, "and we can go see panda bears. And kangaroos. And the colozzuzus. We will see everything." Isolde finished her duckpond plate and went back to work on the blobby human figure that was supposed to be her friend. Once she repainted that, she started painting the yacht on a bowl. It looked mostly like a cross between the pedal boats from the pond and a submarine, but then Isolde had never actually seen the yacht. It was bright purple and brown, and incredibly ugly looking, but Isolde was pleased with it.

"Oh, okay. I dun wanna get eated." River nodded, the worried expression was gone in an instant. Whassa colozzuzus?" He adopted a very confused expression as he finished up the last of his clouds and then grabbed the next bowl, which he proceeded to just slather with paint since he had no particular design in mind.
