Ever since her father had agreed to the yacht party, Isolde had been bursting with excitement. The plans had been toned down a good bit, but they would still be out for several hours before returning to the marina, with Oliver, Pacifism, and Mickey acting as crew. Katya had no desire to go, and Derek stayed with her to please her, but the invitations Isolde had carefully copied out included Ask's mother and River's father in the invitation.
The day of the party dawned clear, and Isolde helped Pacifism fill several picnic hampers with bacon sandwiches, juice, and lots and lots of water, which she insisted would all be for Ask. Isolde was dressed in a blue and white seersucker sailor dress, with a doughboy hat perched jauntily on the pincurls that Marta had done in her hair. She waited anxiously at the entrance to the marina for her friends to arrive.

Ask had been looking forward to this yacht party ever since they'd gotten the invitation. He'd been looking forward to it even more then his impending enrollment to school. It was his subtle enthusiasm that had them on their way to the marina smack on time, if not a few minutes early. Ask'd badgered and poked and prodded till Shiny was out the door. It had to be a miracle.
When he spotted Isolde he waved, "Hello Isolde, thanks for inviting us!"
Shiny was pleased with how gun ho Ask was about this party. She was pretty happy too, boats were awesome. When she saw Isolde she cooed. "You look really cute darling. We're so pleased we could make it."

River had waited impatiently to hear from Isolde about having a party on the yacht, so when the invitation finally arrived he nearly exploded with excitement. Eno began to regret even letting River talk to the girl immediately after, because the little toddler seemed to have eaten a bucket of sugar with how wound up he was.
"You have to be calm on the yacht, okay? They're very expensive and if you break anything we'll have to pay for it, and I'm not sure we can pay for it." Eno opened the door and unbuckled River from his car seat with a sigh. "Okay Dadda! Is Isolde there?! How big is the yacht?! I can't see anything!" River practically leaped from the car as soon as he was free from his car seat. "River, I seriously need you to calm down. And we're leaving Lancelot here, if he goes over the side of the boat, you'll never get him back." Eno pried the stuffed kitty out of River's hands and then placed it in the car again.
"Look, there she is down there... with another friend." Eno pointed down to Isolde, Ask and Shiny and then reached to take River's hand, but when he felt for it the boy wasn't there anymore. He looked up in alarm to see River running full speed down to Isolde and Ask. "R-River! Be careful you might trip!" He locked the car and then trotted down the board walk after him. "Hi Isolde! I broughted my kitty but Dadda said I had to leave him in the car or he might go in the water and I'd never see him again, his name is Lancelot." River waved frantically, not even bothering to acknowledge Ask for the time being.
[He's in supercharged hyper mode. >__>; He'll calm it down soon enough.]

"Hi Ms. Shiny! Thank you! Hi, Ask!"
She saw River running toward her and waved back. Isolde greeted both of her friends with hugs, and made introductions.
"River, this is Ask. He's not a merman. Ask, this is River. We painted plates together. Come on I'll show you the yacht! It's called the By Jingo and Mickey has life vests for us and Pacifism made lots and lots and lots of food and brought plenty of water and we can't go see Lock Nest but Oliver said it's going to be a great day!"
Mickey, the butler, a tall man with salt-and-pepper hair came to the end of the dock to escort Isolde and all of her guests to the By Jingo, a sixty foot yacht. He handed out life vests to the children (Isolde's was purple; both of the boys had yellow) and showed the parents where the other ones were located if they wanted one. Once everyone was strapped in, Mickey helped everyone in and Isolde insisted upon giving a tour of the yacht.
This consisted of mainly running from one end to the other shouting things like "This is the galley!" "That's starboard" "This is called the port bow" "This is where Oliver steers!" "This is where we're going to eat!"

Shiny smiled at Eno and held out her hand for him to shake it. "Hello, I'm Shiny. It's nice to meet you. You don't have to worry about Isolde and River, was it? Ask, my son, is very responsible with little children." she said as they walked towards the boat.
Ask shrugged into his life preserver with a little frown as he tried to fit his wings around it some how. It took him a minute to figure out a mostly comfortable way to wear the preserve. Then Ask caught up and followed the toddlers with an indulgent smile on his face. They were cute. He was excited about the boat as well. It was so big and ... well big! "The boat is amazing Isolde."

Eno struggled with the life preserver, mostly because River was wiggling around excitedly and chattering about nothing the whole time. Once he pushed the last buckle in place, River took off with Isolde and Ask for a tour of the boat.
"It's sooooooo huge! I never seen a boat this big! 'Cept in the stories my Dadda reads me." River nodded his head ecstatically. He glanced at Ask, examining for a split second before gasping loudly. "Is he the friend that you painted at the ceramic shop!?" He waved his hands a little, perhaps too excited about finally figuring out who Ask was.
"It's not River I'm worried about at this point..." Eno sighed wearily, nodding at Shiny a little. "I'm Enosio... nice to meet you as well. I'm guessing that Isolde's fabled parents aren't joining us?" He hadn't intended to come off as sarcastic, but that's what happened. Mentally Eno kicked himself and his inability to hide his dislike for the obscenely expensive.

Mickey appeared at his elbow with the suddeness of a good butler who knows his job, but nonetheless enjoys discomforting people because he's so good. He handed both Shiny and Eno a fruity drink with an umbrella in it.
"Mr. Derek and Ms. Katya will indeed not be joining us. Ms. Katya finds that children, on the whole, give her headaches and upset her golf game, and Mr. Derek finds that when Ms. Katya's golf game is upset or he spends more then an hour or two away from her and with their daughter, he gets headaches, too. Rather large ones. Captain Oliver will be taking us out of the marina in a few minutes. The course for today is to cruise about an hour down the coast, around a barrier island where the lagoon is sheltered enough for the children to play in, and to begin the return voyage by about 2. If you will excuse me, I must join Pacifism in getting the luncheon ready."
Oliver was in what he called the Captain's Room, watching the children as they peered out the window.
"Yeah, I painted Ask. Daddy says his daddy named it the By Jingo cause that's what Uncle British said when he saw it but I've never met Uncle British so I don't know. Oliver says we're going to a lagoon and we can play in the water there and look out for stuff. But we can't go to Lock Nest, River. Oliver says its too far away." She said the last bit very apologetically.
"Isolde, we're going to be headed out soon. Why don't you and your friends go up on deck so you can see everything?"
Isolde led the way up to the upper deck, where there were a few benches bolted down and a railing that the toddlers could just peek over. The engines groaned once, and they started moving into the deeper water and out of the marina.

Shiny smothered an amused sound at Enosio's sarcasm. She had much the same opinion of any parents that didn't care enough to find out everything needed to care for a child.
Ask looked a little confused. "You painted me on a plate Isolde?" It was an amusing image and he wondered exactly what prompted his portrait. He was able to see over the railing much easier due to his height and stretched into the feeling of the wind. This is great. I wish I had a boat."

Enosio took the drink only because it was offered so openly and chose to remain quiet. If he opened his mouth again he might say something that would get them kicked off the yacht even though they weren't at the dock anymore. As soon as Mickey left though, he released a mild groan. "I don't understand people who adopt children even though they want nothing to do with them. It just causes more pain for the child than if they were to stay in an orphanage without parents at all." He muttered in a low voice as an irritated look entered his eyes.
"Uh-huh, we met at a ceramic shop 'cause Dadda said I needed my own bowls to eat my oatmeal in andand Isolde said she was painting her friend andand the friend had four wings! And you have four wings." River chattered excitedly as they moved to the railing. He stood up on his tiptoes in an attempt to see over the side, but failed miserably. "Awww... 'M not big enough.... DADDA! DADDA COME LIFT ME UP!" Once he discovered that he couldn't see over the edge, River whirled around, facing the direction Shiny and Eno were standing and took off full speed for his father. "You gotta lift me up so I can see 'cause we're not gonna see the Lock Nest 'cause Isolde said Oliver said it was too far away so it's okay to lift me up so I can see!" River waved his arms at Eno frantically as the words poured out of his mouth in such a hurry that it was amazing he never stuttered or stumbled over them.
Eno stared at him with a bewildered look for a moment, obviously his brain needed a bit more time than a millisecond to process everything River was demanding. "Okay, okay... just calm it down." Eno set his drink down on the nearest table and then picked up the squirming toddler so he could see over the edge. "Is that good enough? Go play with your friends, that's why we came, remember?" Eno set him down again after a few seconds and then shooed him back over to Ask and Isolde. Thankfully River was fine with just a few seconds and ran full speed back over to Ask and Isolde. "My Dadda's the bestest ever, uh-huh. He lifts me up allll the time!" River unconsciously puffed up with a bit of pride as he spoke. "Are we gonna play games?! Like hide-and-go-seek?!"

"Oliver says we have to be careful on deck while we're sailing, but you guys can come open your presents! Marta and I picked them out. They're for once we get to the Lagoon!" Isolde led them downstairs, past the galley where Mickey and Pacifism were setting up lunch, and into one of the yachts bedrooms.
There were two packages on the bed: a yellow one that was labeled ASK and a blue one labeled RIVER.
Inside, there were swim trunks, towels, goggles, fins, and buckets- Ask's
were all in yellow, red, and orange, and Rivers were all in blue and white and pale green.
"This way we can go swimming! I wanted to surprise you! DO YOU LIKE THEM?"

When Enosio came back from lifting little River up so he could see she commented about his former statement, "Oh I agree. I suppose that means we'll just have to be as supportive as possible and allow Ask and River to be as good of friends as they can be."
Presents? So not only did they get to hang out and be on an awesome boat but they got presents too? Wow. Ask grinned at what was in the package. "Thanks Isolde, these'll be very useful." He smiled at her broadly. "I like swimming." His wings fluttered a bit in glee. He also liked the colors that she chose.

"I suppose so, she'll at least need good friends." Eno shrugged a little and took up the drink once more.
"You gotted us presents!?" River turned to Isolde with wide eyes before he opened his up. "This is awwwwesommmmee Isolde! Thank you!" River set down the package in favor of giving Isolde a hug. "But, I didn't get you a present...." Immediately all that energy from before drained away at once.

Isolde thought fast. She didn't want River to get upset.
"You weren't supposed to get me a present! Cause this is a yacht party! On yachts, only the hostess gives presents! Getting me a present would have been bad ettikit! You like them, don't you? Ask, I'm glad you like yours!"

"I do like them a lot Isolde. The colors are great. Thank you." Ask said and scooped her up for a hug. "You're very thoughtful. And I'll glad to help you swim later." Ask said trying to let River relax and simply be grateful.

"Oh, okay." River perked up once more, but not enough to go back into his hyperactive state. "Thank you Isolde~ I really like 'em." River grinned widely.
