::Miss Melody Klein:: Name: Melody Klein Nicknames: Mel, Mellie Gender: Female Age: 16 Birthday: July 19th Sign: Cancer Gemstone: MoonstoneBlood Type: AB + Fav. Food: Vietnamese foodsHated Food: Fast food chain foods, anything overly greasy School: Crystal Hobbies: Cello, composing music, listening to her iPod Cello: At a young age Melody begged her parents to buy her a musical instrument with the promise to stick to it and never give up. Ten years later she's keeping that promise, practicing away at the large spruce and willow stringed instrument when she isn't in class or doing homework. Composing Music: While she adores playing classical pieces, any and all that she can get her hands on, Melody likes to make her own pieces as well. She has several hidden away in a trapper keeper that she's written during very emotional times in her life. So far no one has yet to see the sheet music. iPod: Music is her life, her passion and the reason she took up the cello in the first place. When she isn't playing or practicing, Melody has to have music playing. While she does listen to a wide variety of music most of the music that you'll find on the bright teal blue iPod is classical. From Bach to Tchaikovsky and everyone in between. Virtues: Compassion, Gentleness Compassion: While she may not know every one, or be known by everyone, her compassion for others is widely known. Always one for helping others she becomes a friend when others need one. She will listen when ears are needed, forgive mistakes when no one else will, Melody just seems to understand the situation and helps in any way she can. Even if it's just by giving you kind words or a shoulder to cry on. Gentleness: Not one for the harshness of the world around her, everything she does is soft and gentle. From the way she holds her books, to the way she speaks and even how she treats others, she is gentle and caring. She'll not raise her voice and will try to talk things out verbally. Flaws: Pacifist, Idealism Pacifist: All life is precious to her, even that of those who would kill others. Stemming from her gentle nature, Melody would rather talk things out peacefully to avoid situations that entail any sort of violence. Just the idea of taking a life seems to upset her and makes her ill. Idealism: What first seems as only child-like innocence is simply Melody choosing to see the world through rose-tinted glasses. While she understands violence happens, she refuses to believe that people could be so willing to do such a thing and that there must be a reason. There are no such thing as bad cops or evil, it's all just misunderstandings and all that is needed is to show these misunderstood people some compassion. Physical Description:Hair: Pale blonde, appears to be sun bleached or died. Eyes: Large and brown, very expressive. Face: Thin though elegant, with a rounded nose and full lips. Body: Willowy (tall - 5'6", slender and graceful) with average t-n-a. Fashion: She has her own sense of fashion and that is whatever she thinks looks good. Though she has a tendency to love colors, as seen by her numerous accessories of multiple colors. She does spend a lot of time in her school uniform, it's just easier then having to change clothes several times in a day. On off days, however, she wears flowing dresses and skirts. When she wears her skirts she tends to wear large dress shirts, peasant shirts or other fashionable tops that catch her eye. Flat, ballerina type slippers are her usual choice of shoes, aside from the school issued boots.

::Melody's Loving Family::
::Mother:: Melody's mother is a sweet asian woman who happily dotes on her only daughter. She's ever so proud of her nearly prodigal child and was really the one to talk her husband into getting Melody the cello. Or so she says. She also has a tendency to try and override Melody's sense of fashion, and that "god awful make-up" by buying her daughter nice flowing gowns and other such high end fashions that are "much better suited to her daughter's elegance". Fact of the matter is, Melody rarely wears those dresses unless her mother manages to buy something that catches her eye. Mrs. Klein is a high leveled CEO of a law firm and spends plenty of nights working through dinner from home to spend time with her family.
::Father:: Mr. Klein happily argues with his wife that it was he who talked she into buying their little girl her first cello, a happily ongoing fight that tends to make Melody want to bash her head against the dinner table. Then again they're always playfully arguing on how to raise Melody so it's nothing knew in her world. He doesn't tend to see why they can't let their daughter dress how she wants, sure that she would come around eventually, but in the end lets his wife do as she wants for fear of being the one to sleep on the couch. Unlike his wife, he works from home as a journalist for one of the many newspapers in Destiny City.
::Gran:: Granny Klein, called Gran by most of the grandchildren, was the most influential person in Melody's life. Having spent so many summers with the elder woman, even when she was but a tiny thing, it was through her that Melody learned the passion for classical music. She was a lot closer with her Grandmother, who didn't try to make her change who she was, then her mother (despite loving the woman dearly) and was very upset when the woman passed away not long after Melody's tenth birthday. It was after her death and during the grieving/mourning process that Melody learned to turn her emotions into songs.
::Cousin Monroe:: Cousin Monroe is a boy that Melody has little like for. A boy obsessed with anything involving the horror genre and the love for tricks, she's come to call him Loki in jest. Back when Gran was still alive he constantly locked her out of the house while she was in the gardens and loved to scare her by playing scary movies and reminding her constantly of the clues that something was out to get you. Having come to help move her into Barren Pines, he's never come back for a visit because he swears there's something off about the place. Thinking him scaring her she told him off in agitation. Now she's beginning to wonder if he's not right.

::The Upgrade::Why a Senshi: I know Mel's personality kind of lends itself to being... not quite suited for the cause of fighting bad guys. A pacifist who fights is kind of defeating the purpose I know. But that's why she's mostly a defensive player, so she doesn't have to actually fight. The reality is, even if she doesn't remember it, Barren Pines changed Melody in some way. Having watched too many of her friends get hurt by such horrid monsters hurt because she couldn't help. Becoming a senshi would mean she could have the chance to fix the past mistakes, she could make it up to those who didn't make it through in some way. She hates fighting but sometimes you have to do things you don't want to in order for the world to be a better place. Sailor Lacrimosa, repelling Negaverse with her vomit! I promise she'll get over it eventually. 8D;;; Senshi: Sailor Lacrimosa, Senshi of Cherry Blossoms Concept: elegance, pink, cherry blossoms, large butt bow would be loved <3. Serenity, love, affection. Asian inspired. [x] [x] [x]* [x] [x] [x] Challenge: Let my blossoms show you your mortality. Attack: Attack #1 NAME: Sakura Rain! Cupping her hands, Lacrimosa creates a handful of small, [somei yoshin] pure white, cherry blossoms, then raises them to her lips. Blowing against them, the flowers fly off towards the opponent, fluttering and dividing into a rain of separate petals, slowly tinging pink along the way. The sweet, delicate scent of cherry blossoms accompanies them to their target as they collide in a soft flurry of harmless "snow" and serves as a distraction as well as slowing the foe down. Quick as the petals make contact, they wither away and are gone, the scent with them. Pros: Impedes the enemy's movement and distracts with a flurry of tiny pink petals swirling around them. The pleasant scent may or may not distract them as sakura blossom fragrance is delicate and highly enjoyable, if one only pays attention to it. The petals are easily flammable and can be prevented by fire from even reaching their target in the first place. Cons: Lasts only a few seconds, is easily dodged. Can be burned or knocked off. The transition from white flower into pink is a small drain of her own energy, however minute. It depends on the closeness of the enemy on how much the drain is. The darker the pink, only able to reach a light "pepto-bismol" shade leaves her vulnerable for a couple minutes herself as her energy rebuilds from the assault. Attack #1a NAME: Sakura Storm! This time, however, the flurry of blossoms is much thicker. The sweet, delicate scent of cherry blossoms can become overpowering if the attack makes contact, which distracts the target from avoiding the rest of the petals. The attack lasts up to thirty seconds before they whither away, taking the scent with it. Pros: Impedes the enemy's movement and distracts with a flurry of tiny pink petals swirling around them. The time around the pleasant scent can distract them if the attack hits and prevents the target from avoiding the rest of the attack. The petals are easily flammable and can be prevented by fire from even reaching their target in the first place. Cons: Lasts half a minute, is easily dodged. Can be burned or knocked off. The transition from white flower into pink is a small drain of her own energy, however minute. It depends on the closeness of the enemy on how much the drain is. The darker the pink, now a darker "pepto-bismol" shade leaves her vulnerable for a couple minutes herself as her energy rebuilds from the assault. Attack #2 NAME: Transient Sakura~ In the same style as her first and second attacks, Lacrimosa creates the blossom she needs. As in her second attack she presses the blossom to her lips and gives it a gentle kiss before blowing the blossom at her target. This time, the [Yaezakura] blossoms have many more petals to each blossom, and begin in a deep, vivid shade of pink. The scent of the blossoms is nearly overpowering at close-range, and the wind swirls the rapidly dividing petals at enemies. The storm of petals and fragrance creates an area of roughly five feet that traps the target. The heavy smell of the cherry blossoms entraces the target, forcing them to reflect on their life and the petals slow them down to help force them to reflect. Once the flowers are pure white, anywhere from thirty seconds to a full minute [one post after the failed dice roll] wither and fall to the ground where they vanish. The scent dissipates mere seconds later. Wind in the area can effectively quicken the effects of her petals losing their strength and scattering away. Fire also easily removes them from the picture. The effects can be countered by a strong will. Strength of will is determined by a dice roll. A four sided dice is rolled by the target, evens counter the effects while odds allow the effects. If the effect is countered then they are not entranced and force to reflect on their life, but the petals do still slow them down and make them an easier target for attacks.

With Melody already existing, I don't see why I should critique her, so I'm just going to talk Senshi here.
Here's some other attack ideas I'll sprout, in case you have overlap issues: Maybe you can have the cherry blossoms in the earlier attacks be blade-like, but to different degrees: the Starter attack would feel like no-bleed paper cuts, and an upgrade would make it feel more like a dull razor blade (and maybe bleed a little?). However, the cons for the attacks would change; maybe the attack petals disappear when they hit an object, and, even though it would feel different, they are still petals that are flammable and able to go off-course when aimed farther than a certain distance?
I think that the last flaw can be added if you would like; even though they are magic petals, they're still light enough to go off-course.
Other than that, not much to report. Just be careful your last attack does not overlap Flora's; I'm not saying 'different effects,' but I know she had an Eternal attack that could heal by sapping life. I hope she comes back, so best of luck. ^-^

I love Melody already, so I'm just gonna crit on the Senshi part of the quest <3
Is there any reason you chose the name Lacrimosa? Apart from it being an asteroid, which it has to be, is there any meaning behind it? A lot of asteroids are named after Gods or Goddesses of legends. I'm sure if you researched you could find a name that tied in with Melody and the power sphere? ;3 I can help if needed, just ping me on AIM!
Love her challenge <3
Her attacks are unique - I like how you're using the cherry blossom tree. However, for the first two attacks, is the production of the tree really necessary? It seems like a extra stage that isn't really needed. Since she's Senshi of Cheery Blossoms, just summoning the blossoms could be better. I can see the attack being quite pretty, in that she cups her hands and a little cherry blossoms grows? ;3
I like the Hanami attack, however, specify a little more - does the blossom just cover their eyes, or their whole face? Does this mean they suffocate as well? How easy is it to dodge?
Yozakura I'm less sure about. You need to be more specific again - I can't see in my head how the attack would work. If it is just cherry blossoms that attach to the opponent, surely they wouldn't slow them down that much? Cherry Blossoms aren't very heavy, and it'd have to wrap around the enemy very tightly to restrict movement - which leads me to the question do they form rope-like structures, or are they still just petals? Because if they're still just petals, they're not likely to be able to wrap around sufficiently enough to do any damage.
I like her second attack ;3 The tree seems much more in place in that attack than the first. I'm not sure where the energy draining is coming from/how it's related to her power sphere, so perhaps explain that a little more?
Otherwise, I love Melody. You know that ;D I like the sphere idea and think it suits Melody really well - just need to do a little tweaking <33

Lemon: I'll definitely keep those ideas in mind should my previous ones not work out <3 Always good to have back ups. Also, I reworked the last one to focus on party healing only, as I think that fits Melody's personality much more. <3
Kairi: Once I settled on the idea of cherry blossoms for her I tried going through a bunch of names until I found one to fit. When I stumbled upon Lacrimosa, despite not having much tied to it, I went and looked up the name meaning. Which I should add to the OoC information post. X3;;; It means weeping. And considering I was (previously) trying to do all the attacks (before I made this thread) with the weeping cherry I thought it was rather fitting to the sphere.
Glad you like the challenge, I wanted something that tied to one of the many meanings behind the sakura and still followed her pacifistic nature.
Concerning Hanami and Yozakura: I was iffy about the trees being there when I made the attacks (which was one of the biggest reasons I wanted crit). I didn't think about her creating the blossoms, I like that idea more. As such both attacks have been updated to better fit what you pointed out <333
2nd attack: Ah, the energy draining was a way to not make it OP? 8D;;; And I thought it kind of fit with the ephemeral bit, as ephemeral means lasting a day or lasting a short time.
Unless you mean the draining of the enemy's energy... >x> To which I can only say I didn't really have much of an offensive attack idea for this and felt she was better for support (keeping it tied into her pacifistic nature). >x> Ahha... perhaps some more help is needed for this last attack? 8D;;;;;

[ It's not a critique, but I do have a fun fact for you! 8D
I think Melody's style was inspired by the Ganguro. It seems to be an Asian thing, so I can understand why Melody wouldn't call herself one, but I was just looking at her and remembered that style from a long time ago. xD
Sorry, I'd offer an actual critique, but I really suck at it. ;; And since she's already a student, all I could critique would be the attacks, but I suck even worse at that! /faaiil
Good luck with your senshi quest, m'dear! <3 ]

Logue: X3 <333 Melody is in fact Ganguro, or inspired by at least. Lizzy said we needed one X3 And she doesn't really call herself one (despite her love for the eye catching make-ups and bright and shiny-baubles and trinkets) because I like the idea of downplaying her look (that and she's not much for OMG wild outfits).
And that's fine! <33 Fun facts are good too <3 I suck at Crits myself, so I understand. Good luck to your own quests!

Why, hello! Finally figured out a midget return-crit to give ya!
Overall she seems like a pretty good character. That my crit is short is a compliment, because whatever comments I have usually pertain to problems I see.
That being said, I'm curious about her flaws. You say she's a pacifist and an idealist. How would she handle being a Senshi in general, but specifically how would she handle being in battle? What would it take to make her fight?
... Yup. That's it. xP
