The Kirinlai

The Kirinlai is not the "Classical" Unicorn - though they inhabit the same lands - but rather, a very similar creature often mistaken for the Unicorn. In the wild, the Kirinlai inhabit the mountains, jungles, and islands of Gaia's far east in their homeland, called Shambala.
In modern Japanese, "Kirin" means Giraffee, however, the word Kirin is also the traditional Japanese word for Unicorn. When discovered, this unique species was given the first part of its name "Kirin" for it's resemblance to the clasical unicorn (the first subject we discovered was an Adult Female) and the second part of its name "lai" as a tribute to it's discoverer, Kim Lai, and to add a distinction from the Classical Unicorn.

1st Stage: Egg
Your Kirinlai egg must be kept warm and its base wrapped in its blanket of silk at all times. Do not turn this delicate egg or you could injure the unhatched baby inside! Sprouting up from the surface of the egg soon after it has been laid by the mother Kirinlai and visible while the infant Kirinlai is still in the egg is a strange antenne-like stalk that is actually the first part of the baby to form! This strange antenne functions as your baby Kirinlai's first link to the world outside of its shell. Talk to your egg and the stalk may twitch because the baby inside can hear you! (All colors on your Kirinlai's egg will appear in some form on the Infant when it hatchs. heart )

2nd Stage: Infant
Newly hatched from its shell, your Kirinlai is a brand new baby, who though he may sleep alot in his first years of life, is eager and curious to explore the world around them. Although when your baby is first born it is nearly blind, it doesn't hinder them, as the delicate stalk on their forehead functions as both an ear and echo-location.
Most Kirinlai's are curious and sociable by nature, even at this early stage of their development, and love to interact with their owner and other creatures.
At this stage your Kirinlai cannot yet fly, although all babies are born with a few feathers already formed behind their shoulders. Also at this stage you will see bumps on your Kirinlai's forehead, an early indication of the horns they will grow later in life.

3rd Stage: Child
Having grown much in size and lost a large deal of its baby fat, at this stage of its development, you can really start to see what your Kirinlai will look like as an adult. Hair is starting to fill in around the mane and over the short tail, even if it's still very short. The nubs that will one day become horns have grown somewhat, and their naturally poor vision has improved as well.
At this stage the wing structure has formed somewhat, though before your Kirinlai masters flight, it has to learn to master the rest of its growing body!

4th Stage: Teen
As an teen, your Kirinlai is now of a mature enough age to begin to atempt breeding, should it, or you, want. Also, by now, its wing structure has fully formed and all the feathers essential to flight have filled in, and your Kirinlai is ready to really start learning to fly. It should take it slow at first, only making small leaps and learning to glide before trying to jump off any cliffs!
Its mane and tail have filled in nicely, though they are not as lush or radiant as they will become once they have reached adulthood. Your Kirinlai's horns by now have taken the shape they will remain for the rest of their lives, even if they are not quite done growing to full size just yet.

5th Stage: Adult
At this stage your Kirinlai is at its peak of life, and at a prime age for breeding. Its horns are fully grown and its wings slightly larger than they were as an adolscant, since they have been strengthening them for some time.

6th Stage: Legend
Congratulations, your Kirinlai has reached its peak and most incredible stage of life! You must have taken care of it very well for it to reach this ripe old age, which for a Kirinlai can mean it is over 100! At this stage, your Kirinlai can no longer breed, however, it is by now likely a highly intelligent individual and a skilled flyer, and may have many children and grandchildren of its own that it has seen into adulthood. Continue to take excellent care of your pet and they may live for many more years as a Legend.

The Lonryu

Kim, Rose, and Ani actually found this species of dragon simultaneously in parts of Gaia, Japan, and China. How you ask? Well, that would be because there are three primary species of Lonryu. There are the Common Lonryu, which most closely resemble the Chinese Dragon and were discovered by Kim in China, the Demonic, which resemble the European dragon and were found in Gaia by Rose, and the Angelic, found by Ani in Japan, which look like some strange combination of the Common and Demonic.
All three species of Lonryu are similar in temper and mentality, and none of them seem to have any outward physical distinctions between males and females. They are reptiles, and require warmth, though they are the most intelligent reptiles we have EVER encountered, and the only ones we know of that can actually talk!
The markings on your Lonryu's egg will appear in some form on the infant that hatches. The color of gem inset into the ring on your Lonryu's bed of gold will be the color of your Lonryu's eyes! Also, the gems littered throughout the pile of gold have been proven to be a good guide to other colors that may be present in your lonryu, such as the color of their head jewels, spines, and claws.

1st Stage: Egg
Nestled in a pile of treasure is how a Lonryu egg is most comfortable, so make sure you have a pile of warm Gaian currency and jewels to tuck your pet away on top of before it hatchs! At this stage there's not much going on, but there ARE sparkling gems and jewels to gawk at!

2nd Stage: Infant
As an Infant, your Lonryu will tend to sleep alot, but when they're not sleeping, they enjoy being talked to by their owner or owner's friends, and like to practice toasting things with their hot breath, though they cannot quite breath fire yet. We reccomend letting them practice on bread in an outdoor area, so there's less of a chance of things getting singed indoors. They still like warm gold at this age, so keep that bed of Gaian coins you had for their egg around for them to nap on, preferably in a warm spot on the floor somewhere.

3rd Stage: Teen
As a teen, your Lonryu will be coming into it's ability to breath actual fire, so you might want to keep them outdoors until they master control over the small flames they will probably spit out sometimes. Also, if you have talked with them enough, you will find that they are a very profficent speaker by now!

4th Stage: Adult
By the Adult stage, your Lonryu will probably be borrowing books from you and spending long hours reading near a fire or other warm object, or lazying out in the sunshine. Although it depends heavily on their personality, you could also find them outside chasing down prey animals and testing their fire abilities to cook dinner. If you've trained them well, they'll light all your fires for you, and be an avid conversationalist.

5th Stage: Legend
Description for this stage is unavailable until we have done further research.

The Wahaka

You won't believe the way we stumbled across this species! One day when Kim was coming back from a hike through the mountains, as she was unpacking her backpack, what did she discover but an adorable wide-eyed creature that looked something like a mouse with wings! The species is named after an African village, in honor of a sweet little mouse that Kim befriended while staying there some years ago.
As of yet, we cannot find any physical distinctions between male and female Wahaka without physically checking the individual creatures, but with further observation, we might be able to tell them apart easier in the future. Also, although they have small wings on their backs, they appear to be flightless, as if the appendages are a leftover from whatever this species evolved from.

1st Stage: Infant
These little guys have no egg stage that we know of, as they tend to... just show up. Honestly, we don't even know how they breed, they just... attract more when a pair hangs around one another for long enough. At this stage you're likely to find this cute little guy hiding in the depths of your backpack or purse, where they will like to stay until they get older. If they need something, they usually will alert you with short sharp high pitched clicks of sound that sounds sort of like a bird chirping. Their favorite food is fruit, and they particularly adore Mango and Kiwi fruits. An Infant Wahaka is no bigger than a mouse, or small rat.

2nd Stage: Child
At this stage, your Wahaka child will tend to just flop down whereever you set them. They particularly like to cling to shoulders and lay on top of heads, though you can still carry them around in your purse or backpack and that will keep them happy. Generally they like to be up high some place where they can see the world around them and watch it, even if they refuse to get up and do much interacting that you don't force them to do. Basically child stage Wahaka are lazy little buggers who love to watch everything going on around them. The Child stage Wahaka is the size of a large rat or gerbil.

3rd Stage: Teen
Once your Wahaka grows into a teen, they will get up and move around on their own alot more, though sometimes they still may flop down in a favorite place and refuse to move unless you make them. They are very inquisative at this age, and love to sniff anything within range. If they discover something they really like, their ears will twitch and tiny wings flap furiously! A Teen Wahaka is about the size of a healthy kitten.

4th Stage: Adult
It is usually this stage, or the Infant stage that you will find hiding in your backpack or purse, we don't know why, but Wahaka tend to bond to Gaians when they are youngest, or oldest. Strange, isn't it? Wahaka that have grown up to this stage while being taken care of by a human from the infant stage are much more friendly and curious than Wahaka that show up already in this stage. If you find yourself with a Wahaka in the Adult stage that you didn't raise, be prepared to find a creature that might be a little more shy than it's already domesticated counterpart.
There small wings have grown out much more by this stage, however, they still are unable to fly, though sometimes you might see them trying valiantly by flapping them as fast as they can. If you see them doing this, don't worry or try to stop them, as it's actually very good excerise for a rather lazy creature. Adults are roughly the size of a small cat.

The Companions

The Companion Animals are creatures native to Gaia, Japan, and China that just seem to wander in to the store or hang around it some times. There are various species that seem to hang around some times, but we like to adopt them out, as they tend to do better when they are paired with a Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka.

10 ) No Advertising your own thread or shop in THIS thread. (Allowing you sig to appear IS okay though heart ) This includes conducting games (rolling dice, etc.) or things like that for YOUR shop, in this thread. DON'T DO IT. Besides being very rude, it will potentially confuse people.

11 ) DO NOT DIRECT LINK. Once you pick up your Pet, please save and host it on your OWN server, for every stage, including the egg. (May I recommend http://www.photobucket.com ?) You will need to pick up your Pet from the thread every time it Grows, with no exceptions. Growings and the page number will be announced in the thread title.

12 ) You MAY NOT give away your pet without permission, or resell your pet. If you have a pet from our shop, and decide to leave Gaia, or for whatever reason decide you do not want it anymore, please let us know, so that we may offer up your pet for re-sale, raffle, etc.

13 ) Pay ASAP when you buy a pet (within 24 hours of purchase) if you don't, your ownership will be canceled, and the pet you wanted will go back up for sale.

Q: Can I have one for free?
A: No. And do not ask for a pet for free, you'll anger me. DO NOT ASK for one for free.
There ARE certain events where you might have a chance to get one for free, or I may randomly give them away (to people of MY choosing) so don't beg for a free one. (example: a free raffle, or a Riddle Contest.)

Q: Is Roleplaying required?
A: No. Not at all. We won't take your pet away from you if you don't RP it. There ARE special perks and random give aways for people who role play however. Check the Owner's FAQ for info on those things. If you want to roleplay your pet, you can do so in your journal, or here in the thread. There is, as of right now, no Guild for Legends of Shambala. heart

Q: How do I get a Kirin-lai or Lonryu or a Wahaka?
A: There are several ways: flat sales (just check that section for availability), raffles (these will be announced in the Annoucement/Updates section), auctions (also in the Annoucements), etc. You can also get a pet through breeding. Check the Flatsale Availability section and the Annoucements for information on what ways there currently are for you to get a pet from this shop.

Q: How do I get a Companion Animal?
A: You have to check the availability section for them. Buying a Companion Animal works just the same as buying a regular pet.

Q: Can I co-own a Pet?
A: No, I'm sorry, but there is no Co-owning allowed. One owner per pet. (Though you can own as many pets as you want.)

Q: How quick do they grow up? Do we have to do anything to make them row?
A: The short answer to the second question is yes, for a complete answer to both questions, please refer to the Growth/Aging FAQ/section.

Q: Can my Pet be gay/lesbian/bi?
A: Of course it can! Just like real animals, the pets from Legends of Shambala can end up with a prefrence that might not be male/female. And that's perfectly alright!

Q: How do I buy a Pet for my friend as a present, but keep it a secret?
A: Very simple. All you do is buy the pet you want to give your friend as if you're buying it for yourself. Then when you send me the PM with its cert information, write that you "would like it to be a surprise gift for your friend "(insert friend's name here)" I will post their gift pet in the thread per normal, but I will also send them a PM with a gift-box image and a link to the post of the pet you are giving to them.

Q: Pet trade?
A: Maybe. Is your shop's link down on Ani and Rose's list of wanted pets? If so, the answer is YES, we want to trade pets with you! If you don't see your shop's link there, then ask in the thread if we'd like to do a pet trade, and include a link to your shop. We'll check it out, then get back to you. However, if we say the answer is no, please don't pester us about it.

Q: Can we be affliates?
A: Ask to be affliates and post a link to your shop in the thread, and me or Ani will check it out, then reply to you if we're interested. If you get no answer, ask again (and tell us the page number that you first asked on that contains the link to your shop). Asking to be Affliates is the only acceptable reason besides asking to do a pet trade, to advertise for your own shop in our thread. DO NOT Advertise in our thread unless you are asking to be Affliates or have a pet trade.

Q: I want to work with you, can I?
A: Thanks for the offer, but in most cases I am going to have to say no ahead of time. If I'm looking for assistance or guest colorists, I will post it in the Annoucements section.

Q: How do I make my Kirin-lai/Lonryu/Wahaka grow up?
A: Please refer to the Growth section and FAQ.

Q: I just bought the (insert item here) to Grow my Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka to the next stage, and you haven't grown it yet!!
A: Please be paitent, I'm working on it and it will be posted in the thread as soon as it's done.

Q: Can I buy all the growth items at once and have my Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka become an Adult all at once?
A: Yes, I don't see any reason why not. (It's not as fun that way though D smile However, if you do this, you won't get it as quickly as if you grew it one stage at a time more slowly, because I will have to color ALL the stages at once, instead of just one at a time.

Q: How do I get my Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka pregnant?
A: Please refer to the Breeding section and FAQ.

Q: Can a single parent Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka have a baby?
A: Sorry, but no, the only way for your Pet to have a baby is through breeding. There is no way for a single parent to adopt.

Q: Is male/male and female/female breeding allowed? / Can my pet be homosexual or bisexual (or any orientation)?
A: Yup! Kirinlai, Lonryu, and Wahaka can all reproduce with their own gender as well as the opposite. (It's complicated biology and technowledgy! biggrin )

Q: How do you pronounce Kirinlai, Lonryu, and Wahaka?
A: Kirinlai: Key-rin-lie, Lonryu: Lon-ri-you, Wahaka: Wa-HA-ka

Q: What is the plural for Kirinlai, Lonryu, and Wahaka?
A: The plurals are the same as the singular. The plural for Kirinlai is just that. Same for Lonryu and Wahaka. :3

Q: Can the Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka speak human languages?
A: Kirinlai: No, but they understand it perfectly by the time they reach the end of the Child stage. Kirinlai are also telepathic, and very good judges of character, so watch what you're thinking around them, they can hear your inner thoughts!
Lonryu: Yes! Lonryu are able to speak the human language perfectly by the time they reach the end of their Infant stage, and are highly intellegent creatures. Expect to carry on regular conversations with them by the time they reach their Teen stage!
Wahaka: Nope, sorry. Wahaka can't speak human language, or read minds. As they grow up they understand more of it though. They respond to human language the same way a smart dog would, basically, they understand a few commands and mostly your tone of voice. Think of them as smart dogs.

Q: What are the perks for RolePlaying?
A: 1. It bumps the thread and makes me happy to see you enjoying your pet and getting creative with it.
2. There are free give aways sometimes! This is a random event for people who Rose or Ani simply think deserve something free. What could you win?:
~ A free Wahaka (it's stage will be whatever Rose or Ani feel like giving away).

First come, first served, simple as that.
(I am aware this is hard for users on Dial-up. This is hard for users on high-speed too actually, and I speak from experience. It all depends on luck, and speed. Hence the name, Speed Flatsale.) DO NOT COMPLAIN IF YOU LOSE.

Quiz Flatsales will start by me shouting, in red: "QUIZ FLATSALE GO!"
There will be a question for each of the available flatsales, posted right alongside it.
The first person to answer the question correctly for the pet they want, gets the pet.
(Please post the Question you are Answering as well as the pet# you are answering it for when you post.)
Trivia/Quiz Questions will only be posted a short while before the Quiz Flatsale starts.
It's still first come, first served, but with a little flavor, and a little more equalizing for users on Dial-up and High speed connections.

arrow RAFFLE Flatsale:
Raffle Flatsales will begin by me shouting, in red: "CLAIM A FLATSALE TICKET!"
Anyone who wants a Ticket need only say they want one after I shout.
TICKETS ARE FREE for a Flatsale Raffle, and everyone who wants one gets ONE TICKET PER PERSON.
You will have 15 minutes after it has started to claim a ticket. After 15 minutes I will say ticket claiming is over (if there are not as many tickets claimed as there are pets I will extend ticket claiming another 15 or 30 minutes, etc.)
I will then roll a single dice with the number of sides coresponding to the number of people who wanted a ticket. (I'll list the people who wanted a ticket and their ticket numbers each time I roll.)
The first person who's Ticket number happens to be rolled, gets first pick of the available flatsales. Second person gets second pick, etc, until all the flatsales are claimed.
Once all flatsales have been claimed by the ticket winners, I will make a post announcing the winners, and their chosen pets.

I will announce when every flatsale ends so there will be no confusion, as well as name the winners and the pets they are buying.

So what are the prices for Flatsales you ask? They are as follows:

Kirinlai or Lonryu Egg: 8k
Wahaka Infant: 8k
Kirinlai or Lonryu Infant: 7k
Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka Child: 6k
Kirinlai, Lonryu, or Wahaka Teen: 5k

FAIR DAY RIDDLE CONTEST

I love riddles, and sometimes I will want to share my love of riddles with others in an event called "Fair Day Riddle". These will be a contest of wits during which everyone will have a chance to win a FREE Kirinlai, Lonryu, Wahaka, or Companion Animal, all by answering a riddle correctly.

Please refer to this FAQ for all questions you may have relating to your Kirinlai, Lonryu or Wahaka Growing up and Aging.

Q: How do I make my pet grow?
A: You don't have to do anything to make your pet grow from the Egg stage into the Infant stage for Kirinlai and Lonryu, or from the Infant stage to the Child stage for your Wahaka. However, from the Infant stage and older (Child stage and older for Wahaka), you have to purchase an item, and wait a certain amount of time. (Unlike most Breedables, these are not RP required AT ALL, so you have to pay if you want them to age.)

Q: I just had my pet Grow to the next stage, can it grow again right now?
A: No. There is a waiting period. You can't age your pet and then age it again right away, it doesn't work that way. If you could, I would end up being overwhelmed. The exception to this would be growing your pet all at once. Otherwise, you have to wait awhile between growings.

Q: How long do I have to wait for my pet to grow to the next stage?
A: If you have just received your pet (or just received it after it has grown) you must wait the following amount of time before you are allowed to age it to the next stage of development:
Grow (from Egg) to Infant- 5-15 days
Grow (from Infant) to Child: minimum of 10 days + purchase of the Growth item
Grow (from Child) to Teen: minimum of 15 days + purchase of the Growth item
Grow (from Teen) to Adult: subject to availabilty of Growth item and varies greatly
Grow (from Adult) to Legend: subject to availabilty of Growth item and varies greatly.

Q: Who pays the breeding fee?
A: Doesn't matter, as long as it gets paid in full up front.

Q: How many Eggs will I/we get?
A: Breeding of Common Kirinlai, Common Lonryu, or Common Wahaka: 3
Crossbreeding between Common, Angelic, and Demonic Lonryu: 2
Breeding Companion Animal species: 2

Q: How old does my pet have to be before it can breed?
A: Kirinlai, Lonryu, and Wahaka all MUST be at least to the Teen stage. Adults and Legends are capable of breeding as well however. Companions must be adults.

~ Once eggs arrive, I need to be told who each egg is going to, and what you want them to be named, so I can fill out certs and post them for proper pick up. You DO NOT get to pick the PERSONALITY of a pet resulting from breeding.

Breeding Mini-FAQ:

Q: How do I get a breeding slot?
A: Just wait around for them to open up, or score a voucher in an event. heart OR, you can grab an ANYTIME bribe breeding slot for the obscene price of 25k.

Q: Can I give one of the Eggs/Infant Wahaka to my friend who can't afford a pet?
A: Sure, that's not a problem at all. You are allowed to give away eggs resulting from breeding.

Q: Can I sell/auction/raffle off the Eggs/Infant Wahaka?
A: NO. You either keep the eggs yourself, or give them away. You are NOT allowed to profit from them. (I might change this rule in the future, but as of right now, giving them away or keeping them are your only two options.)

Q: How many times are my pets allowed to breed?
A: As of now, there are no limits to the amount of times your pets can breed. Inbreeding is allowed.. but.. uh.. I wouldn't recommend it, as you may not like the results.

Q: Will eggs/children from breeding look like their parents?
A: Most of the time the children that hatch from the Eggs or the Wahaka Infants that show up will end up looking similar to their parents, and have their traits, but occasionally they might look completely different. An egg resulting from breeding will never be completely identical to its parents however. There were always be at least something a little different (even if it's just eye color)

Q: Is there any way I can make sure one of the eggs ends up spotted/striped/the same sort of colors as the dad, etc.?
A: As of right now, there is no way to influence the appearance of future eggs/children. In the future, we might be able to concoct some Pregnancy Aids however that might be able to push things in one direction or the other.... stay tuned on this.

Q: Can Common Lonryu breed with Angelic or Demonic Lonryu?
A: Yes, cross species breeding WITHIN a species is allowed. The eggs/children that result won't look like lineart crossbreeds though (meaning that they won't have lineart edits to make them look like both an Angelic & Common combined, for example)

Q: Can cosplays or lineart edited pets breed?
A: Yes! And there IS a possibility that the children may inherit the edits! No gaurentees on that though.

~~~ The Shop Mule: Legends of Shambala ~~~

The Shop mule is supposed to be Kim Lai, the discoverer of the Kirinlai and Wahaka, and co-discoverer of the Lonryu. She is a fictional NPC created for the purposes of this shop. Only Rose and Ani have access to her account. When you see her online, or in the thread, it is usually RoseNightshade behind the controls. However, when roleplayed in the thread, she is to be treated as Kim Lai, not RoseNightshade. OOC, she is RoseNightshade, unless otherwise stated. She is also an NPC for the purposes of this shop, and here are her stats, if anyone is interested:
