A note from Chickies: Before this thread goes back a million pages, I just want everyone to know how happy I am to have had the chance to work with you all, and I will truly miss this shop. <3 It was a great experience for me, and I'm sorry it ended up being so inactive. I simply know that with the new owners, it will grow to be better than ever! So I hope any followers of the old GHS will follow into the new one. A man that seemed to be in his twenties walked up to you, a clipboard held in his hand. He smiled softly, nodding, "Hello there. Welcome to the Gaian Humane Society. My name is Dr. Jason Hawk. Feel free to call me Dr. Hawk. My co-owners and I are proud to present dogs and cats of various breeds for adoption. Our very own Detective Lucas Aldridge, codename Chickies, finds stray dogs or cats all over Gaia, and brings them to our humane society for treatment, which Alex Kerrith and I will take care of. Our receptionist is Maddy Lynn, but call her Sirenz for short, who would be glad to show you around the building to wherever you would like to go, answer any questions you have, and perhaps even find the perfect pet for you. If we have any animals available, I?m sure that you would be a splendid owner, if you are looking to adopt." Dr. Hawk motioned you into the large building, and he himself wandered elsewhere.

As you wander closer to the Humane Society, you notice a large bulletin board. Inspecting further, you see that it has announcements, updates, and upcoming events posted on it.

[1/19/07]Slowly catching up with growings, possibly some sort of event in the near future to drum up activity in the thread.

[2/27/06]Haha, we're so bad at updating this. Uhh, Alex will be catching up on some growings soon, and priority will be given to active owners. A flatsale is also in the works, precise date is TBA.
[12/3/05] Wow, time certainly does fly. We did a series of Disney auctions, as mentioned below, and they are finally ended. At the moment, we are doing a Christmas Advent event! Don't know what this is? Look downwards t'ward events!.
[11/4/05] Well, this hasn't been updated in months, so I brought myself up to it. At the moment, we are having a series of Disney-themed auctions. Right now is the Pocahontas series with Pocahontas, Percy, and Meeko; no telling which is next. Also, we will be having a flatsale on November 6th, rather impromptu. One feline and one canine, both colored by Sirenz. See below for more information.

[7/4/05] The Fourth of July SE pet auction did VERY well, bringing in 397k, just a little less than our first ubercustom auction went for! And congratulations to Orleans/bran-chan on her new Cocker Spaniel, Trixie. :3
[6/29/05] The raffle did well, bringing in around 50k worth of tickets, and Khomi's ticket won. Alex's custom auction brought in 105k, thanks much to Lady_Shinigami. Now for some things to come up. There's going to be a 4th of July auction beginning July 1st, and will end on July 4th. Can't tell you any more, because it's a secret. ninja Maddy will also be doing a breeding slot or two soon (hopefully x___x), so some breedings will be done. Then both Alex and Chickies will be doing some of their breedings, as well, so this summer, there shalt be puppies and kittens! biggrin More later.
[6/26/05] The flatsale was a great success, and six pets now have new, loving, and caring owners. On a different matter, there are many events planned, so check below for links to the latest events. :3
[06.24.05] Flatsale is tentatively scheduled for TOMORROW, the 25th of June. Also goes by the name of Saturday. Front page is also getting a trimming, because it's HUUUUGE, and it takes like 3 months to scroll through.

A bit away from the bulletin board, you notice another large sign. Skipping off to see what this one said, you see several maps. At the top of one map, it reads "Map of Outdoor Area". At the top of another, it says "Map of First Floor", and the last one says "Map of Second Floor".

As you enter through the main entrance into the building, on the wall to the right of you, you see a large sign that says Staff. Beneath it are four photographs of different people, each one with writing beside the picture. Curiosity gets the best of you, and you wander to the first picture.

[insert image of Dr. Hawk] Dr. Jason Hawk :: Jason Hawk was born on February 16th, 1979, in Melbourne, Australia. His household had several different pets, and at a young age, he would always pretend to cure their sicknesses, if any, with his plastic doctor kit. The line of veterinary work had always interested him throughout his life, and once he had graduated high school, he moved on to college, where he graduated as a veterinarian. Now, at the age of 26, he was now beginning a career as a veterinarian at the Gaian Humane Society, with the help of his friends Alex Kerrith, Maddy Lynn, and Lucas Aldridge.

Dr. Alex Kerrith ::
Alex was born in Germany, but raised in Adelaide, Australia. Though her parents encouraged her to study law, Alex decided to pursuit a career in the veterinary field. She met Dr. Hawk while getting her degree, and they eventually got the idea to start a clinic of their own. Her specialty is in rehabilitation and a sort of physical therapy for animals, though she also frequently assists Dr. Hawk with medical procedures and treatments.

Detective Lucas Aldridge codename Chickies ::
Lucas Aldridge barely reveals anything of his past. He had met Jason Hawk on his college campus, and once Hawk had graduated, he, Lucas, Alex, and Maddy began the Gaian Humane Society, all for their love of animals. Aldridge also enjoyed being somewhat of a detective, so they nominated him to be the one to track down the strays, and take them in for adoption. He was also the one to crack down on abuse by current owners (see F.A.Q. for more information). He gladly agreed to do the job.

Maddy Lynn aka Sirenz ::
Maddy works as a receptionist at the Gaian Humane Society to help pay for art school and other expenses. She helps people find the perfect pet, and answers any questions they might have. In her free time, Maddy enjoys drawing and taking care of her cat Cheese, and her dog Nikki.

To the left of you, you notice a desk where a young looking lady sat. Once again, curiosity caught the best of you. As you wander over there, the woman looked up from her computer, and smiled kindly, "Good afternoon." Taking a quick glance at her nametag, you soon found out she was the one you had read about before, Maddy Lynn. You nod in return, give her a smile, and look down on the counter, where a book was placed, that was labeled 'Breeds of Pets'. Flipping on to the first page, you read the introduction.

Next to the book you were looking over about the various breeds of animals offered, there was a pile of different colored fliers. What the hay. You were already reading, why not read some more? The flier reads:

Q: What types of events are there?
A: There are a few different kinds of events. There are planned events, which are really big events, such as an Easter hunt, or Secret Santa's. The other types of events are random events. In random events, it's basically just an impromptu decision to give something away for free, usually a cat or dog, or familiar, or just items.

Q: Tell me about the big events.
A: Well, big events will usually be announced a week or two before actually happening, instead of being sudden. A lot of big events involve games like scavenger hunts, or they could just be something where you buy a gift for someone else, like on Valentines Day.

Q: Cool! So, what about the random events?
A: Random events are probably planned on for a while, but are kept quiet between the owners. Then, they release it to the public, without anyone else aware of it. Sometimes they could be games, and sometimes they could also be little scavenger hunts, or sometimes they could even be "be the next person to post this and get that!" or whatever.

Q: Do you have to be an owner to participate in events?
A: There may be times when there is an owner-only event, but those are pretty rare. Most of the time, it will be for owners and non-owners alike.

Q: So, what're some possible prizes?
A: Some possible prizes are actual pets, familiars, items, etc. Not every event includes a prize, though. Some events that take place could be just buying something for someone else.

You look to your left? goodness! Another book! Since you seem to be so very interested in adopting a pet from the Gaian Humane Society, you grab the book, and read the cover.

1. First and foremost, respect all of the general Gaia rules. Every rule that applies to Gaia, applies here. Don't follow the Gaian rules, then you're not following our rules, and that means you're on the gray or blacklist.
2. Do not steal the art. As tempting as that yes (yes, I know, it's beautiful art), winterfalcon drew this lineart, and we bought it. We bought it for 9,414,750 gold. That's a lot. So, don't steal it, or we'll be ticked off. Extremely.
3. Do not advertise/sell items in this thread. Unless you are an affiliate, or the image/advertisement is in your signature, do not advertise for your shop or your selling of items or anything in this shop. It's just plain rude. This is the GAIAN HUMANE SOCIETY, not the auction house.
4. Don't edit your posts in a flatsale. You will not get a pet under any circumstances for a certain amount of time, and you will be put on the graylist.
5. Do not ask if you can work here. Unless we're looking for employees, we really don't need any help in the shop. We basically have it covered.
6. Do not beg for a pet. To lay it out bluntly, you won't get it. So if you ask for one for free (unless you're a very close friend of one of the owners), you will be put on the graylist. Any times after that you ask for one, and you're off to the blacklist.

Q: How do I get one?
A: Flatsale, auction, raffle, or bribe. <3 See below.

Q: Do you take bribes for customs? x:
A: Why yes, we do! Better look at the staff personal posts for stuff like that, though.

Q: I went a pet that looks like my pet in real life. crying
A: Okay. In the real world, I'm sure you've seen plenty of Dalmatians that look the same. It's basically the same on here. Say you had two Dalmatian-looking dogs. If they bred, what would they have? A collie? No, more Dalmatians. So, it's really the same here, except that each Dalmatian will have its own special markings and such. Let's take 101 Dalmatians for example. There's Patch, who has a nice big patch on his eye. He wasn't like the rest. He had a cool patch on his eye! So, each one will have its own spiffy traits.

Q: I want the name whatever for my pet, but someone else's pet has it! gonk
A: Well, that's too bad for you. You'll just have to think of another pet name.

Q: How come some pets are shaded differently than others??
A: How thoughtful of you to notice. Since some people prefer one type of shading to another, we provided two different types. 3nodding

Q: How long will it take for my pet to grow to the next stage?
A: Well, let's think. In real life, it takes itty-bitty newborns about eight weeks to get into the kitten/puppy stage in its life. Well, since this is Gaia, it probably shouldn't be more than two weeks, unless you buy the growing potion that needs a name. Then, to get from the kitten/puppy stage to the adult stage, it could take up to another two weeks, if perhaps more. It can also vary, depending how busy we are.

Q: So, are these pets roleplay required?
A: No, these pets aren't roleplay required. You know why? Because I said so.

Q: If I get one, can I run off to lala-land, and never come back?
A: No, I'm afraid you cannot! Even though these babies aren't roleplay required, you have to stop by the thread once in a while. Going AWOL or hiatus? Tell us. Then we'll be sure to not annoy you about you being inactive in the thread. If you are inactive for one month or more without notification to us of leave, our very own detective will send you a private message regarding your pet, saying that if you are not active within the next week, your pet will be adopted off again. If, after a week of that warning, you do not stop by at least once, you will receive one more warning. If one more week goes by, with no sight of you around, then your pet is going to another owner. A little post every once in a while is all we ask, people. :

Q: You said earlier that Chickies finds strays and brings them in for adoption. What if I want to roleplay my pet as a stray?
A: Not to worry. Strays that have been purchased will not get taken into the Humane Society. Your stray may encounter Chickies once in a while, but don't worry, your pet won't be captured.

Q: Chickies also earlier said that he cracks down on abuse. What kind of abuse is this?
A: Well, roleplay abuse is not tolerated. Also, in the world of GHS, abuse means neglecting your pet, which means that if you don't even post in the thread for a period of time, your pet will be taken away (more detail is explained below).

Q: Okay, so, I want mine to be a house pet.
A: Do you? That's pretty cool? OH, I get what you mean. This shop takes place in Gaia in general. Specifically, an unmentioned town that we think is cool, all most like NYC. Luckily, with the release of Gaia Homes, this gets to be a bit more fun. If you want your pet to be a house pet, you can purchase a collar for him/her, and you can roleplay your pets at home, pretending your home is your actual house. Now, since there aren't second floors in the Gaia Homes, and the rooms aren't that large, you can, of course, extend the rules a bit. Feel free to make your home a bigger one, through imagination, if wanted.

Q: I want to roleplay. Where do I do that?
A: For now, you can roleplay right here in the thread. If you want a journal for your pets, start one in the forum called Breedable/Changing Pets Roleplay, or in your journal, and PM us the link, so we can list it next to your pet in the ownerlist. We plan on starting a guild later in time, just not right now, since this shop is pretty new.

Q: Are there extra perks for roleplayers?
A: Of course, as always! If you roleplay your pet, you will probably get a better shot at familiars, cool new items, and various other things, as well, than non-roleplayers. We do pay attention to who roleplays and who doesn't, so, don't think we don't. Oh, and your pet will more than likely grow faster than the ones that don't roleplay!

Q: I decided that I don't want my pet any longer, or I'm quitting Gaia. Can I put it up for adoption for a better owner?
A: Yeah, sure! We're okay with that, as long as you notify us first. You can do one of five things; give it away, have a writing contest for a new owner, put him/her back in our ownership so we can put him/her up for adoption, auction it off, or raffle it off. If you decide to auction or raffle your pet off, 75% of the earnings return to me. That means, that more than likely, you will get your gold back, and more. If you decide to return it back to our ownership, we will more than likely have some sort of contest to find a new owner. We will not re-sell him/her.

Q: Yes! I got a pet! Can I just add an itty-bitty marking to its right ear?
A: No.

Q: What about its left ear?
A: NO! We will not edit any features on the pets for you. Maybe with a lot of bribing, but otherwise, no. ninja

Q: Are there 'rares' of any type?
A: Who knows. ninja You'll just have to wait. Muahahaha, sneaky me.

Q: Can I own more than one?
A: Yeah, no problems there. If you can manage to grab more than one, then lucky you.

Q: How come you gave a free pet to so-and-so? I don't find that fair.
A: We're the owners. Let us decide what's fair and not. Kthx.

Q: Do we direct-link?
A: Yes! You do! Since your pet will change two times after their first stage, you will need to keep an eye on him/her. 3nodding Even when they're at their final stage, you can continue to direct link, for you may just receive a special surprise on your cert at some point.

Q: Who do I make donations to?
A: Send any trades to this account (Dr. Jason Hawk). If it doesn't have something other than "donation" or "trade request from so-and-so" in the title, then I'm going to assume that it's a donation, even if it's a halo. But, considering that it's a halo, you may get a few hundred customs. :B

Q: Wtf. So-and-so has a pet shop just like yours! Did you steal their idea?
A: No. When we purchased this lineart, we had seen absolutely no pets that related to normal dogs and cats. We thought it was a brilliant idea, so boom, we bought it.

Q: How much do these guys cost in flatsales?
A: Good question. Each pet is 6,000 gold in a flatsale. 3nodding The price is able to change at any time, though.

Q: Let's say the next flatsale is on June 34th, 2473. (THE NEXT FLATSALE IS NOT THAT DATE, IT'S A MADE UP ONE.) How do I get one?
A: Good question. First of all, you must have taken some kind of interest in these guys before you even try for a flatsale. A simple "omg, they're so cute!" will even work. Anyways, 10 minutes before the flatsale starts, I ask that everyone refrains from posting, so it will be easy for you guys to see my post in big red letters that says GO! Okay, ten minutes have passed. It is exactly the time for the flatsale to start. I post GO, but bigger, and here's the post you're supposed to make:

Q: What's the starting bid for an auction?
A: The starting bid for any and every GHS auction will be 6,000 gold. 3nodding

Q: What will the minimum increment be?
A: 1,000 gold.

Q: What types of auctions are there?
A: There can be several types of auctions. A custom auction, in which you choose who colors it, a custom auction, in which the colorist is pre-determined, a semi-custom auction, guest auctions, and rare auctions. There are also pre-made auctions.

Q: Will there be an auto-buy?
A: Only if it's a custom auction in which the colorist is pre-determined. Auto for Sirenz' auctions will be NM minis, Alex's will accept a d-tail, and Chickies' will probably be bunny or chicky slippers.

Q: Okay, so, for a custom auction, does that mean I get to choose everything? Gender, breed, colors, markings, etc.?
A: Yep. 3nodding

Q: Can my custom be based off something else? Like, a cosplay of an anime character, or be elemental?
A: Sure! It's a custom!

Q: Let's say it's a semi-custom auction. What do I choose?
A: In a semi-custom auction, you get to choose gender, breed, and the colors. You cannot, however, cosplay it after something else, or have it be elemental, or be in that nature.

Q: What types of things are in rare auctions?
A: Angelic, demonic, elemental, cosplays, etc. ninja

Q: What are familiars?
A: Familiars are extra animals that go along with your pet on their cert. They accompany your pet, and often try to keep an eye on them.

Q: Cool! So, how do I get one?
A: You can get a familiar by either roleplaying a lot, through a familiar flatsale, a raffle, or by a special event. They can also come with custom or cosplay auctions.

Q: How much are they in flatsales?
A: Familiars are 1,500 gold in a flatsale. Price may change at any time.

Q: How often are familiars sold?
A: Familiars aren't sold too often, reason being, we don't want each and every pet to have one. Simple as that.

Q: How come so-and-so got one for free?
A: Because. They either roleplay a lot, or we felt like giving them one.

Q: What kinds of familiars are there?
A: The familiar types are raccoon, squirrel, rabbit, mouse, bird, chipmunk, and fox.

Q: Do we roleplay our familiars?
A: Sure, why not! That's probably the reason they're there. 3nodding

Q: Can I get a familiar, even though I don't have a pet?
A: No problems there. You'd get a small tag to go along with your familiar, if you don't have a pet to go along. Tags will only have the familiar's name and gender on them.

Phew, finally finished with all those questions and answers! you think, as you close the book shut. The woman glances up from the computer she was working on, and smiled, "I can show you to the area where the pets for sale are, if you'd like." The idea excites you, and you quickly agree. She stands up, exits her desk area, and walks over to a door across the room. You quickly follow her as she walks through one more set of doors to the right of the doors you just went through. As you enter this new room, you gasp at the sight. It wasn't anything shocking, just nothing that you had expected to see. It was an enclosed outdoor area. A small pool of water lay in the middle of the room, several trees on the outskirts of the room, for a more realistic touch. All over the room were felines and canines of all different sorts. "This is the room we let our pets stay in during the day. During the night, they each are separated, except for families, and put into their own rooms. Not all of these guys are for sale, though. A lot of them probably still need treatment from Dr. Hawk and Dr. Kerrith. The ones that are for sale are over there." She pointed in the directions of each pet, if any.

The woman spoke again, "Follow me, please." She smiled, and led you out of the room. Across the room you returned into there was another set of doors, in which you followed her through. In this room, there was a large tank filled with wood chippings. As you looked inside the tank, you saw several mice of various colors. Next to the tank were two doors with windows on them, so you could look through. As you looked through the first one, you saw a park-looking area with a few maple trees inside. "The room you are looking in contains birds and chipmunks." You nod, and look into the other door's window. The inside resembled a forest, and occasionally, you could see little things moving swiftly. "That room contains foxes. Even though the foxes we have are tame, and don't eat other animals, we thought they would be best in their own environment. You may have also noticed that they are smaller than a regular fox you would see. This is because of our advanced technology; it enables us to have animals smaller than their natural size, all most as if they were the runt in their family." You nod to show that you understand, and she points to a clipboard on the wall by the door you entered in, "It shows all, if any, of the mice, chipmunks, birds, and foxes that are for sale. Take a look."

As you followed Maddy out of the room with the familiars, she shook your hand, and said, "I hope you find a pet to adopt that you'll love forever." You nod and smile to her, and she returns to her desk. Next to her desk, you notice a board that has photos posted on it of various pets. At the top of the board is a sign that says "Recently Grown Pets". This intrigues you, and you take a closer look.

Q: How do I obtain a breeding slot?
A: You can obtain a breeding slot through raffles, special events, breeding-slot flatsales, or if you see that they're open, just ask.

Q: How much are they?
A: The cost will be 5,000 gold per offspring, so be prepared to pay from 10k to 20k. Unless, of course, otherwise specified by the breeder.

Q: How much would a raffle ticket cost? Assuming it isn't a free raffle.
A: 100 gold each.

Q: How many tickets can we purchase in a raffle? And a free one?
A: Unlimited tickets in a normal raffle, and only one in a free raffle.

Q: How do you get one in a special event?
A: Don't ask me, I have no clue. Depends really on which event. Usually the information will be posted in the event.

Q: About how many kittens/puppies would one get through a breeding?
A: You would get two to four kittens/puppies in one breeding.

Q: What can we do with our puppies/kittens?
A: You may give them away, keep them, or sell them through a flatsale, auction, or a raffle.

Q: If we sell them through one of the above methods, do we get to keep all the profits?
A: Nope. 50% of the profits must come back to us.

Q: Will my kittens/puppies look like the adults?
A: Yes, they will most likely resemble each of its parents in some aspect.

Q: Can a girl breed with a girl, or a boy breed with a boy?
A: No, I'm afraid they can't. Only girlxboy breeding.

Q: Can I bribe you for a breeding spot?
A: More than likely. xD

Q: How often can my pet breed?
A: If you can manage to get the amount of breeding slots, they can breed up to three times.

Q: I?ve bred my pet three times. Is there ANY possible way for me to breed just ONCE more?
A: Our doctors here are working on a special injection that allows your pet to breed, even if they have bred three times already. However, this injection is very rare, and will only be auctioned off.

Q: Do we have to have a mate to breed with?
A: Nope. It can just be a quick decision. However, it might be nice if your pets know each other.

Q: Can a dog breed with a cat?
A: Not at the moment.

Q: Can two different breeds of felines/canines breed together?
A: Yep. :3

A: Well that's all up to mother nature! And by mother nature, I mean randomizer.org. Usually 2-4. Though pets that are life-mates (mate is specified on their certs) have a better chance of producing more puppies or kittens than non life-mates. Just as you begin to wonder about the whereabouts of the other staff members, a girl whose picture you recognise from the staff photos enters the lobby from the back room. She's wearing a lab coat, which leads you to conclude that this must be Dr. Kerrith.

"Oh, hi there! Has Maddy given you the clinic tour?" she asks. You nod a yes and she gestures to the lab area in the back.

"Well, if you find a pet that suits your liking, be sure to check out our pharmacy here. The clinic Pharmacy is our sort of all-purpose item shop. Dr. Hawk and I are always working on new experimental (but always safe!) treatments that you can purchase to alter your pet. In addition to our patented miracle potions, the pharmacy will also be selling a variety of pet supplies, toys, and clothing for you to purchase.

...Unfortunately, we're currently still setting up.. I called our suppliers to see if they could have our inventory delivered on time for the grand opening, but they're really giving me the runaround with it. I'll post a notice on the bulletin board when the items are delivered though, so keep an eye out!"

Just as she finishes her enthusiastic speech, you hear a series of muffled crashes from within the lab. "Crap.. Excuse me, please.. Have fun finding a pet!" Dr. Kerrith exclaims, before darting back into the back room.

'Well... That was...interesting...' you think.

1 April 2006 ~ Policy Update! - I(Alex) just went through and removed any old affiliates to dead shops or ones that were not linked back to GHS. Since we already have quite a large affiliate section, I'm making just a few adjustments to our policy.

-Please only send us banners that are reasonably sized. Slightly bigger than our banner would be acceptable, but I suggest no larger than 300 x 120 pixels. The reason for this is that large ones distract from the other affiliates and make the thread look disorganized.

Q. What's your position on pet trades?
A. PET TRADES OPEN AT THE MOMENT (Feel free to inquire, but be aware that I'm picky.)

"That's a great question, I'm glad you asked. I don't do all that many pet trades, actually. I've been fortunate enough to acquire most of the pets I want already, of the shops that aren't inactive or closed. If I do decide to do a trade, here's the kind of pets I prefer..

-I'm NOT a fan of intensive RP! I'll do it on occasion, but I'm generally just not good at it, I'm not creative enough x_x If it's the sort of deal where I have to RP the pet or it'll be taken away, I'll most likely decline.

-I tend to like animals best, as opposed to anthro-types. There are some exceptions, but a lot of the anthro pets I like are RP-intensive..and..yeah.

-Pets coloured like Australian Shepherds :O Alex collects those.

A. There is another alternative for getting a custom GHS. The way it works is simple. Occasionally, we will be offering opportunities for custom slots, for the price of 500k. Payment can include donation items and letters, at mid ZERG values. Customs can be any breed, and the colouring is entirely up to you. However, lineart edits are not included. If you want edits, the price will increase; how much will depend on how extensive the edits are. PM Alex for details if you're interested.

A: Well, it depends, really. 3nodding There aren't a lot of pets that come right off the bat that I know I'd want, but if you want to see which pets those are, see below. Anyways, here are the characteristics of a pet that I like.

. I don't like required roleplay. It just stresses me out too much. I don't mind if you have it so we should roleplay every once in a while, or just stop by, but having to roleplay a lot turns me off, no matter how much I love the pets.
