I agree with you. While people have a right to like anime and/or dislike American/English dubbings, or be very fond of other countries, they shouldn't hate America itself over things like this. Everyone has their own opinion on which country is their favourite, but I don't think that any country is better than the other.
I hate when I hear people(especially those born and/or raised in America)saying things like, "America is stupid", or, "I hate America, it's full of obese people",etc, and being dead serious about it. Sure, America has its share of issues, but every other country has their own problems as well. Nobody, or any country in this case, is completely perfect. It's your imagination that makes one thing or person seem so superior to others. I do believe people have a right to have interest in other countries and cultures, be their interest great or small, and that sometimes the people with a healthy, not overly-excessive interest are called, "wee-a-boos", or other degrading names like that right off the bat. Of course, there are some people who tend to take it much too far, and start dissing their home countries and saying things like, "[insert country/place here] are the best in the world!! [insert other country name] sucks!!" This is a point when these people should take a good look at how they are acting, and consider cooling down a little.
I don't believe America, "ruins" anime. While some dubs can go to annoying lengths editing and, "watering down" shows, sometimes to make it more appealing and appropriate for younger audiences or American television overall, it doesn't exactly destroy it as some think. I think why people prefer watching subbed instead of dubbed episodes is because they like to have a feeling of authenticity from the shows they watch. They want to see real, authenitc Japanese cartoons, and there is nothing truly wrong with that. Again, while dubs can seem annoying at times, they are there for those who may prefer to see the often less explicit or easier-to-watch programming of Dubbing , and there is nothing wrong with that, either. People have a right to choose what they want to watch, and they shouldn't be made fun of, teased, or looked fown upon over their choice.
In regars to the last paragraph, do American people complain if they see an American-made cartoon being dubbed into another language? I've never heard of that happening. So why is it only anime dubs people complain and complain over? sweatdrop
In closing, I think people should be open-minded when discussing this matter, and look at it from a positive point of view as well, rather than only negative. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. Sorry if there are any typos in this post. I apologize; I was typing quickly. redface
So...
-Do you think some anime fans hate or mildly dislike American or their own country and desperately want to be japanese?
I think some do, and frankly, I find it ridiculous. I can understand when people joke about this kind of thing, like, "Our president/governor/other leader sucks, I hate this country", or joke that they are from another country/place because they like it that much; but when they mean it, and are obsessive about it, and try to convince you that their opinion is right, it's a bit annoying.
-Why do you think some anime fans idealize Japan so much?
I think they idealize it because they only see Japan through an anime character's point of view. They might think that there are tons of bishounen running around, or that Japan is exactly like what they see in anime-which, of course, is not at all true. If they really are interested in Japan and its cultures, they should look at it from other angles other than anime.
- Is this thread's topic crazy and stupid?
I don't think so. I am glad someone finally adressed the topic.
- A better title for this thread
I enjoy it.
