1. GATHERING INTELLIGENCE

Mirroring says, "People like us do stuff like this." And it can work when your advantage, in several ways, isn't really in your tribe.

4. CONTROLLING DEFENSIVE BODY LANGUAGE

Traditional lie detection techniques are based on detecting signs of anxiety. To appear more fair, command your pressure indicators. You could be judged as less trustworthy, if you are nervous going into a meeting or a cocktail hour.

Two things you can do to combat stress:

5. INTERROGATING SOFTLY

As a PI, I can usually coax the truth from a grudging witness. This technique can be, as a budding business spy, pivoted by you toward filling those awkward silences at board meeting or a stilted conference cocktail hour.
