This thread will be posted in whenever new OOC or IC updates are available. The title will be changed to reflect the latest time of update. Old updates will be placed under spoiler tags while active updates will not.

Weather changes, herd movements, and important pride movements are updated consistently (every 4-6 months). Please feel free to use this information in your RPs and SRPs. Other IC updates will be posted for events such as metas or extremely important IC events.

Prompts are also updated and you are encouraged to use them for inspiration. While prompts are organized based on age, both include current events in the pride. You may utilize information from both. Remember, these prompts are here for fun and to help inspire you to RP; they don't have to be followed strictly.

Past Updates - For Archive Purposes

18th August 2011: Water sources are low due to an on-going drought. Pride size is decent, though there is a lack cubs. Those that exist are guarded closely, and there is concerned talk amongst pridal members about what should be done to increase numbers. A new female has arrived within the last month with two cubs and an adolescent.

22nd August 2011: Metaplot Week 1 Pridewide sickness! The cubs and elderly have fallen ill. One cub has already been reported to have died. Most adults are not showing sickness, and if they contract signs, they are only ill a day or two. Of IC note, it is known that none of Biti’s children have shown any signs of having sickness.

There is a pride-wide meeting on whether or not to move or stay located here.

For reference, a guide to meta-plot characters in the Boneland’s pride can be found here

29th August 2011 The Bonelands pride has voted to move! The pride’s youth was inexperienced in moving, and the going northwards was slow. One of the eldery lionesses passed away on their journey. Pôntàn’s condition is considered much better, though this is now cause for the most worry, as those sick seem to make an almost full recovery before the sickness takes their life. During one of the day stops to rest, Tunda went missing from the group. The fear is that she is dead. Searches were done, but after the pride remained for two days without finding the cub, Biti’s family was told they had to move on.

In light of the water crisis, and the recent breaking of a vulture’s wing by Umoya and Nikonkoni, two new ranks have been added and will be available to lions! For more information, and to try for a rank-change for your lioness, please visit this thread.

The movement was a relative success! Though the drought is still ongoing, the northwards proximity has left hope for rain. The lands here have not been in a period of drought for as long, and there is enough food for the prey and therefore also for the lions. Water can be found in small, selective pools, which are scattered through the pridal territory; the small river to the east is completely dry.

Lastly, the loss of so many cubs and the lack of births of others have caused the Abholi to act accordingly. A period Rogue Swap has been instated. This has caused conflict among the pride, both towards the Abholi (it is rumoured Matifu was the main decider), and amongst fellow members with differing views. Some new-age members are beginning to form two and three lion groups in search of healthy rogues. You are welcome to OOCly breed your Bonelands characters to rogues during this time. Keep in mind, traditional lions are still traditional and will be against this. Stay IC!

13th September 2011 The period of Rogue Swap is still in action. You are welcome to OOCly breed your Bonelands characters to rogues during this time. Keep in mind, traditional lions are still traditional and will be against this. Stay IC! Conflict has finally begun to divide groups. Division has begun to push to two main groups, and the rise of new Umama is just around the corner. Let your lion have their say in who they follow here.

Two rogue lions have been seen close, both day in night by several members of the pride. [ X and X ] The Abholi have pushed them off a few times, but the two males are becoming increasingly more daring.

Good news and bad! The whereabouts of Biti’s child has been determined. A pack of hyenas is rumoured to have the cub, and two separate search parties have been sent out. Amara’s cub, Pôntàn has succumbed to the sickness; he is the last known victim of the brief, but alarming travel of disease.

There is rumour, and talk, that perhaps it is Biti’s fault. Umoya and Quba have returned from their search for rogues, though Quba is severely injured and is currently under heavy care. All lion’s are tasked with taking care of her in shifts, and any leftover food is brought to her. With the two young females comes another. Talk in the pride claims she is a seer, and she brings prophecy with her. The way the vision is seen, it is Biti that has brought forth the pride’s ill-health. Some believe this, and some do not. An argument has broken out over what to do with her, and it seems Biti’s future depends on what the pride decides.

October 4th, 2011 First rains. The first few days bring just the smell, and by the third, it is a torrential downpour. There is no risk of flooding for the pride, but anyone stupid enough to be near the river bed is likely to be pulled in and drown.

By extremely strong vote in her favour, Biti has been allowed to stay. It seems, however, that despite the pride's banding behind their bretheren the seer was not all wrong . . .

The two males that were spotted on pridal borders have been testing the boundaries, and are now inside. In general, the females do not mess with them physically, though they may catcall, or send jeers. Three of the Abaholi are away, leaving Matifu and Kamal to take care of the pride.

There will be conflict, and the females in the pride should be prepared for the possibility of new males leading the pride in their in the future.

23 October 2011 Please see the OOC announcements thread for the end of the meta information!

27 February 2012 A metaplot is currently going on. Please see this thread for update meta IC information.

26 April 2012 IC and OOC Updates have been moved to this thread. Please check the title for most recently updated dates. The old OOC Update thread can be found here

5 May 2012 The thread has undergone some condensing. Things should be much easier to find. There are new banners, and a new rank! Information on the treaty with the Firekin is up.

ICly: Two, large, healthy litters have been born. Both litters are from the current Umholi and things look well under Gakere's rein. The great drought months have hit. Some lakes remain, but the pride has stopped moving freely and is now relatively tied down by where water sources are. Prey is on the move and wary. This causes tension in the pride to be high, especially with the inward movement of the red-pelts on their north/north-western side.

19 September 2012 Pridal movement! The summer months have arrived, and cubs are old enough now that they can begin to travel longer distances. The entire pride is making its way towards the open plains. This means they'll be at least a few days walking distance from the Firekin outpost at all times. It also means they're likely to encounter rogue groups and other exciting things! Feel free to create your own interactions; there will definitely be some public ones to participate in.

As well, if you haven't already done so, you can sign up adult male lions for speical ranks here and there is an Ambassador rank open for a female.

18 December 2012 Gakere, the leading Umholi, and Baie'mooi have a very large litter of cubs to celebrate. This will be Gakere's first litter, and as such, they are extremely important new members to the pride. If your lion doesn't know about it yet, they'll know about it very shortly. Words spread like wildfire in the pride, and this is certain to be the first thing off everyone's tongues.

The fleas, too, seem to be nearly gone. They still cling to one or two lions in rebellion, but have mostly been cured.

OOC

New Prompts are up and changes have been made to weather/herd movements/location. Take note of the new section: Important Character Movement. These are one or two sentences notes on what important characters are doing and where they are, and how they may have changed from the last time. Just send a PM to the mule if you have an important character who has changed movements and you'd like it known. It is summer, so expect events to come filtering in!

IC

Weather/Location

This year has been a heavy rain year. The ground is riddled with lakes and rivers. In the softer sediment, sink-holes have started to develop. Cold winds continue to pull in from the east, and the weather could even be considered chilly. More rain appears to be on the horizon. The Ithambo'hlabathi have begun their march back to the Firekin outpost, lazily following herds as they do.

Herd Status

Food is everywhere, but unfortunately it is scattered throughout the plains lands. The gazelle and wildebeast are everywhere and anywhere they want to be in patches of relatively small herds. This means the hunt of one group may inadvertently startle another and botch the whole hunt. For those with great hunting skill, this is a time of plenty, but for those who have some work to do, they are spending many hard days and coming home with nothing to show for it.

Important Character Movements
- Nuguvu appears to be settling in very well as an Inselelo. He has yet to sire any offspring, but shows promise and has bested a few males to challenge his position. Surtak still dislikes him.
- Lengi, the traveling ambassador, is away to engage neighboring lion groups in discussions and is ICly absent.
- Gakere's offspring have all reached adulthood and males are being sent into the roguelands.
- Jasiri, a new Inselelo, has removed Kamal from the ranks and is available for harassment.
- The pride is heading back (and is within a half-days [5-6 hour] walk of) the Firekin outpost.

Prompts
Adolescents/Adults
With so much rain, and so much more likely to come, what are you doing to prepare? Cubs and juvenilles are at a high risk of drowning if caught in a fast river current. Even adolescents and adults may find their demise in the water if they are caught in the river during a heavy passing storm.

Scattered herds make food plentiful but hunting difficult. Are you one of the lucky hunters who is skilled and brings home food often, or are you plagued day after day with failed hunts? If you are a strong hunter, do you feel burdened by bringing in the majority of the food for the pride? If you are constantly failing, do you resent those better than you?

Juves/Cubs
So much rain means the fall is going to be full of prey. For a juvenile and older cubs, this means their adolescence and the first hunt is close at hand! You've already done your exploration of terrain with the other cubs and adults as is tradition every season, but that is child's play! Nothing like a real hunt. Are you excited about what is to come? Nervous? Do you want to be a hunter at all?

Younger cubs are restricted to moving pridal boundaries and won't be getting their first hunt until much later. But, there's still plenty to do. This year, you've seen more frogs than ever before. They make great practice. But, the danger of drowning in the water is something to watch out for. You've never really had the chance to practice swimming before the wet season. Do you bother your parents to help you practice? Do you try on your own? Do you menacingly push in a sibling to find out what happens?

OOC

The hiatus pushed some timelines back a bit, but we are now ICly all caught up and have moved into the next season. Information on terms for Iselele is now entirely up to date, so you may keep an eye on that if you're interested in such a position in the future. In light of new litters, there will be an Inqina soon, so if you own a cub, keep an eye out for that! OOCly, posts from the options for males thread has been moved to the cultural hot topics thread which now has a directory to make information easier to find. Requirements for Umama have been reduced from 5 to 3, and now you only need 3 names as opposed to full-RPs to qualify. The member's list has been updated; please PM the mule if there is anything amiss/missing!

IC

Weather/Location

The winter movement is complete. Days are getting warmer, and rain wanders in and wanders out. A sprinkle dots the landscape around once a week. The pride may see one more monsoonal downpour before the season of water is over. The remnants of this season lay scattered over the land in hundreds of seasonal lakes and streams; the sediment has begun to settle and water is crystal clear. Mud is often a problem, but it is not the persistent, thick mush that has been most of the plainsland this season. There are plenty of drying patches to be found. The Firekin outpost is close by and the rumbles of sparring and interaction can be heard echoing over the gentle plain.

Herd Status

Herds are beginning to settle and spread. The marshlands have started to dry, leaving lush green grass in their wake. As a result, large protein-fat herds have begun to form into small pockets of prey, each considering one patch of grass greener than another. For the Bonelands, this means hunting is at its prime. Herds are just divided enough that a botched attack does not mean the entire plains scatters, but still close enough that a new hunt can be invigorated constantly. It is also, unfortunately, the most dangerous time for hunters. Prey-mothers are also having calves, and they are more agressive than ever. Calves are easy prey when caught, but also put a lioness at the most risk. This is the time when the most hunting injuries occur from kicks, charges, or flat out maulings. In the past, careless or unlucky lionesses have died.

Important Character Movements
- Lengi, the traveling ambassador, is still away on ambassadorial duties and continues to be ICly absent.
- The pride is currently stationed adjacent to the Firekin outpost, and is between a five minute to an hour walk of training on any given day.

Prompts
Adolescents/Adults
Humor is often good medicine against the gruesome and stressful. As a result, many of the experienced lionesses joke and tell stories about their past hunts. Do you have a story to tell about how you got a certain scar? Or that moment your life flashed before your eyes?

Maybe you’re one of the adolescents, or more serious hunters who can’t hold back their fear. How do you cope with knowing you have to hunt against aggressive prey? If you’re preparing for your first hunt, are you debating putting off your right of passage for a safer time? Or are you ready to tackle the task head on?

Juves/Cubs
Behemoth lions ahoy. You’ve known some larger lionesses exist—Boneland’s lions come in all shapes and sizes, a mix of surviving rogue blood. Red pelts aren’t entirely strange, and many cubs have likely caught a glimpse of ‘Su’ or overheard Surtak saying something derogatory about “red pelts”. But talk won’t prepare you for the sea of red, white, and black at the Firekin outpost, with lions whose paws seem as big as ten of yours combined!

Do you beg your parents for a field trip? Stay completely clear of the outpost altogether? Can you sleep in a new environment, or do you lay awake, excited, listening to the distant chatter of lions. Maybe you try to sneak your way there in the night, only to be caught by one of the pride members, or maybe even one of the Firekin themselves.

10 June 2014

OOC

Surtak has gone missing! This will affect his breedings, and a note to that effect has been placed in the breeding thread.

On June 12th, one of the Inselele positions (male leaders) of the Bonelands will be available for challenge. Information on challenging can be found here. Any male may try whether they are currently living in the pride, have been kicked out previously, or are simply rogues. Adolescents may also try, though they will have a much harder time stealing the position. You may post immediately on June 12th with a challenge.

As a whole, the Bonelands pride has entered into what is essentially a “long-term” metaplot. Actions by characters in BL ORPs will have potential consequences. Please give permissions to the degree your comfortable with in the long-term meta-thread. This will be in place long-term, so don’t post unless you’re absolutely certain you’re willing to agree to the level you’ve signed up for.

Lastly, the pridal subforum has been organized, slightly condensed, and hopefully cleaned of most errors and inconsistencies. All pride information (with the exception of the Firekin outpost) can be found here, now. Constantly changing information such as weather and herd movements will now be posted as updates for easy viewing and reference. The Plot/RP request subforum has been archived as it was not kept updated and most members have created their own plot threads instead.

IC

Weather/Location

There are few scattered pools left in the plains. The heavy winter rains made the grass grow tall, towering over the heads of the lions in many places and reaching shoulders of many herdbeasts. Winds are beginning to flow from the northwest, dropping down from the mountains in hot gusts that bring tepid nights and panting days. The growing heat of the day means the plains become most active at night. The sparring at the outpost has intensified; the bellows of wildebeest, zebra, and wild buffalo course through the night.

Herd Status

Calves are beginning to age and wander from their mothers, but the great beasts of the plain have also begun to band together. They will eat the plateau grass down to nibs, and then begin their great migration east to the flatlands. For the lions, the best chance of a successful hunt is to capture straying adolescents. However, there is a high risk that a wrong move will spook the growing herds into a stampede. While hunting during this time is typically safer, it is also exceedingly unsuccessful and requires great patience and tact. Smarter lionesses will bring home more food compared to their physically superior counterparts in this season.

Important Character Movements
- Surtak has gone missing. You can assume your character noticed his behavior was restless a few days before the disappearance. He may have been seen jogging away in the night, but night patrols are not unsual for the males. If questioned, the lead Umholi, Gakere might mention something about Surtak being a coward.
- Lengi, the traveling ambassador, is still away on ambassadorial duties, though this prolongued absence has begun to cause concern, especially in congruency with Surtak's disappearance.
- The pride is currently stationed adjacent to the Firekin outpost, and is between a five minute to an hour walk of training on any given day.

23 February 2015 (Update 2/26/2015)

OOC

With Kaelyndra's departure from gaia, the Bonelands was handed over to Quaji, who brought in Meepfur to co-own the pride with her. The hiatus has taken a toll on the activity of the pride, but we're back and getting this situated to keep things flowing on a regular basis. There's been a small change to the Ahluke rank as it is now an openly available rank, though it requires an application process. So male Lusizi now have a readily accessible rank if they want to stay, but don't want to become an Enda. An extra line of text being added to the breeding form that simply states that by posting the breeding request form in the thread, you are agreeing that all of your members are either on the member's list or are posted to be added. In addition to this, there is now an update form that can be found in the Joining, Rank Changes and New Litters thread. (SEE UPDATE!!)

As you've noticed by now, there have been a lot of ORPs. The amount of them will drop significantly here soon as a majority of these were simply to set up the new Umholi and to establish that Gakere and Surtak are no longer Abaholi in the pride without throwing all of that into one single RP, as well as to introduce a few characters. The multitude of ORPs were also to allow people to react in real time to the current events rather than reading a RP and then reacting in their own RP.

Update: A new development. The member's list will be changing, as will something with the breeding form. The new requirement is to have all of your lions on the member's list in order to post a breeding for, this will still remain so, but instead the member's list will be updated by you instead of just posting the information and having us update it.

We will be switching to a style of member's list similarly found on the Pridelands and Jini-msemi member's lists. In which you will have a post for your lions and it will be up to your responsibility to keep it up to date if you want to be able to breed in the pride. There will be a form located belowfor you to use and a few example posts as well to get an idea of what the change will look like in action.

As there are currently no breedings in and there are new members joining and being given away, this is probably the best time for this to go into affect. Please make sure to post your member's list before posting for any breedings, since you will still be required to have an up-to-date member's list in order to be able to post a form. It will only take a little of your time to fill out the needed information and post it. If you need help finding images, names or parent information, or if you need help with a rank issue, please PM Quaji. Thank you.

IC

Weather/Location

One of the two rainy seasons is upon the pride and rainfall of varying intensities can be expected on a regular basis for the next month. Gray clouds are a common sight, as are small watering holes that would be dry as a bone any other time of the year. The showers are sporadic and seem to happen at any moment. The moisture, combined with the heat, leaves the water vapor trapped in the air, leaving the plateau muggy and hot while the night air drops close to freezing. This is also a dangerous time for lionesses and cubs for other reasons. Such as the rain having created a large amount of mud from the lack grass, eaten short by prey beasts, to hold it in place. This makes the ground slick and hunting hazardous. Drowning is also a concern for any new and older cubs.

Herd Status

The herds are growing in size as new calves are being born. Currently they are still too young to wander far from their mothers. The zebra and wildebeest herds are beginning preperations to leave towards the end of May to join the other smaller herds and in turn the mass migration. An elephant herd has also made the plateau home for the moment, though it is hardly hunted in due to the extreme risk. Stampedes are a dangerous threat that every lioness must be cautious to avoid causing while hunting, especially the reckless youth of the Ithambo'hlabathi looking to prove themselves.

Important Character Movements
- The pride is currently moving away from the outpost and is currently heading east towards the center of the plateau where a majority of the brush and gathering water is located.
- Gakere has gone missing and a bloody fight scene was found, reeking of both him and Surtak. With no sign of either of the Abaholi for over a month now, the two are presumed dead.
- Andhaka has been chosen to become the pride's new Umholi! While not everyone is happy about the decision, a good portion of the lionesses seem to support the striped male.
- NEW Bangizwe has been chosen to become the pride's second Umholi with Umama Simosihle suggesting it to him after he saved her life. A few other lionesses present backed her, though with their own worries, but none large enough to not support him at least slightly.
- Jasiri has been allowed to stay, passed a normal Inselelo normally would have been allowed, partially due to Surtak's disappearance and now thanks to Gakere going missing as well. His precense has been calming to some lionesses with only one Umholi at the moment, so his pro-longed stay has been allowed, though with the new rule, it is unknown how long Andhaka will tolerate him.
- Ukwazi has become an Umama with the backing of at least four other lionesses and one of the Ahluke.
- Machozi, the ambassador to the Firekin, has returned to the pride, if but temporairly, bringing with him new information about the red-pelts and their ways...and motives.
- Lengi, the traveling ambassor, is still away on ambassadorial duties and the pride fears she has met an early demise while in the rogue lands.

Prompts
Adolescent & Adult Prompts
The herds have moved beside a new watering hole, which complicates your hunt by adding the danger of falling in, but your hunting team are all experienced. Or maybe this is your first hunt. With the added danger, do you forego hunting for a better time or more suitable conditions on the ground at least. Maybe you can try scaring the herd away from the watering hole, but protective mothers could be a problem...

The migration brings back a lot of memories of times gone by, especially since they are moving away from Gakere and Surtak's battle scene. Many lionesses are sharing stories from their youth or of fond memories of either of the (presumed) deceased Abaholi, or even of Matifu or another Inselelo who has left.

Cub Prompts
This is your first time migrating with the pride and it has been stressful on your young body, but there's just so many new things to see! Zebra, wildebeest, antelopes, calves too! This might be your first time see it rain as well. Try not to get left behind though!

With the migration, you're learning a lot about the pride's lands. With your Inqina coming up, are you excited to watch the lionesses to show you how to hunt? Are you excited for your own right of passage coming up and your time to shine and show the other lionesses what you're made of or would you rather wait and make sure you're ready before jumping into anything?

2 February 2016

OOC

Nothing huge going on right now OOCly, but the pride will be slowly working into the second half of it's meta in the coming months so keep an eye out for the ORPs that we'll be having! There was also a delay on officially closing the first Mkhulu and Chatter (ORP), to which I apologize for. It hopefully shouldn't get that bad again. I will likely be slowing down on how many ORPs happen due to a multitude of reasons so you'll have more time to do your own RPs to react to those events!

I'm hoping to hold newbie-only pride raffle is likely to take place some time either in late February or March to allow an opportunity to people who want to join, but don't have anyone! These will likely be pre-made characters, all adults, but they may come with (uninheritable) edits to spice things up a bit.

IC

Weather/Location

The pride is moving into the dry spell of their rainy season. Showers are infrequent now, but grey or partly-cloudy skies are still common to see. The air is not quite as muggy as it was some months back, making it much more bearable to go on longer hunts or afternoon walks, but the mornings can still drop near freezing. Be wary, the grass is still high enough to hide snakes, spiders and scorpions, and green enough that large herds are still frequenting the Ithambo'hlabathi's territory. Drowning is no longer a major concern for new and older cubs, but slipping into a watering hole or accidentally being trampled are still things to be wary about.

Herd Status

The herds have swelled in size with the growth of the new calves at the beginning of the rainy season. Some are still too young to wander far from their mother's side, The zebra and wildebeest have begun to move on, merging with other smaller herds. Thompson's gazelle have also arrived and are beginning to merge with the other ungulate herds. The elephant herd that had been spotted at the beginning of the first half of the rainy season has been reported to have moved farther from the pride's location and no longer considered a threat to the safety of the pride. Stampedes are still a huge thread to the pride as the smaller herds begin to ready themselves for their mass migration. Lionesses must take care not to set these herds off and all youth of the Ithambo'hlabathi are being watched by more careful eyes than event.

Important Character Movements
- The pride has finished their move. They have settled near the center of the plateau, within view of the riverbanks. They are currently resting near a multi-tiered rock formation that is regularly checked for scorpions and snakes. This spot is quickly becoming a central hub for the pride to gather as the Abaholi frequent the top of it.
- Cubs are an extremely common sight these days. It feels like every lioness is having them and the pride's numbers have swelled by nearly two dozen. All cubs are being watched by the pride to help ensure their survival.
- Andhaka has not sired nearly as many cubs are Bangizwe or Jasiri has. There are rumors going around that he may have questionable fertility or that his red might be turning lionesses away from choosing him as their litter's sire.
- Bangizwe has thirteen cubs currently running around the pride! It is obvious that he is extremely proud of them all by the way he smiles so broadly now. He's currently seen working with his male offspring to ready them for the roguelands. He's also been rather vocal about the Firekin outpost and how the pride isn't getting all that much out of the deal, but how they're taking the pride's water. It seems like he's not happy about it, some rumors are going around that he might even try to break the two pride's unsteady agreement.
- Jasiri has lost his position as an Inselelo, but has left behind ten cubs by Nehanda and Ilanga.
- Gabedi has been seen fighting with males along the border. It is unclear how certain his position as an Inselelo is. As far as the pride knows, he has not been able to sire any litters yet.

Prompts
Adolescent & Adult Prompts
Sunlight! The last few months have been extremely rainy, off and on, but now it seems like the land is going into the mid-dry spell which means the ground will begin to harden up, making hunting easier and safer too. It also means you're going to have to make sure to keep your guard up while drinking... Normally the pride drinks from a smaller, safer watering hole that's free of predators, but it seems like a couple of hyenas have moved in and keep coming back.

The position of Inselelo seems to be one that the pride just can't seem to keep filled. Jasiri's gone, Gabedi's been fighting, many lionesses are now speculating that he won't last too much longer as an Inselelo. Still, chatter of what kind of lion would likely be taking his spot is quite interesting to hear. All the lionesses seem to have their own idea of the perfect male to take the spot, thought some are downright goofy.

Cub Prompts
All these other animals you've seen wandering after your mother are sooo big! Your mother (or aunt, cousin, etc) tells you that there are animals even bigger ones. You've never seen something bigger! Of course now you have to see them. Do you wander off in search of these larger animals or maybe you're a good cub and ask to see them instead? Oh! Maybe you'll see them on your Inqina! Wouldn't that be exciting?

An older cub tells you that everyone's going on an Inqina soon, but fails to give you any more information about what in the world an Inqina even is! Now you're left wondering what is is. Does your imagination go wild about the possibilities or do you just ask one of the adults about it? Maybe they tell you and that gets you even more excited for it! I wonder what kind of things you'll see...
