Loud cries were coming from Uncle Aulii's beach hut as Porter drew nearer to it. Porter squinted his eyes in confusion, why did it sound like there was a newborn in there. Porter looked around the beach, he could see a orange speck out in the water, the male could only assume that was his uncle surfing out there. He wasn't going to get any answers from just standing outside staring at the place in confusion, and Porter was here to visit his parents. He proceeded into the hut, not even knocking, this was where he grew up.
The baby was crying, Diona was crying and then she was screaming in exasperation. "Ugh!" How had this happened again?! Diona stared at the little red and gold baby laying on her bed wailing as much as its lungs would allow. She knew exactly how this had happened, she had just been having some fun, enjoying her new freedom as a single female. Diona was certain she had to be the most fertile pae on the entire island that she would be 'blessed' with another child. It could have at least been a girl, but no she was 'blessed' with yet another boy. Diona hadn't even named the boy yet, she was still staring at it in disbelief. She was barely free from the chains of marriage and her sons were only just full grown, and now the cycle was about to begin all over again. Except this time Diona didn't have a husband to try to pawn the baby off to. It was just her.
"Mom?" Porter asked as he stared at the sight before him. His mother's eyes as she turned to face him were bright and puffy, she had clearly been crying for a while, and there was a small screaming bundle on the bed. Porter looked from his mother to the baby, he knew that a baby crying was the sound he had heard, yet he found it difficult to believe, even as he stared at it.
"Porter!" Diona cried out in ecstasy, a light bulb going off in her head as soon as she saw her other son. She ran over to him and embraced him, as if her prodigal child had returned. She sniffled dramatically and wiped away the tears from her eyes.
Porter's eyes narrowed, he didn't appreciate the way she was looking at him. She looked at him that way when she had tried to dress him up in frills when he was younger. She looked at him that way when she wanted something. It really felt like his mother only cared about him like that when something was in it for her. "Where's da'?" Porter looked at the baby suspiciously, neither mom or dad had any yellow in their appearance. The baby didn't look anything like him or his brother.
"Honey..." Diona's voice still sounded sweet, too sweet, "Your father and I... we just weren't right for each other. I'm sure you and your brother must have known it was only a matter of time. I think he has moved into your grandmother's house if you want to see him..." Diona sincerely hoped that wasn't the case. She paused to regain her composure and wandered to the bed, scooping up the infant. The infant stopped crying instantly, he just needed to be touched. "Baby, I have someone for you to meet," It was unclear if she was talking to the baby or Porter.
Porter was clearly uncomfortable, "I see..." he said slowly as he watched his mother. It was true that it didn't surprise him that his parents were no longer together, his mom had never really liked any of them as far as he knew, she just wanted to do her own thing. Yes, he held that against her. "Well, didn't take you long to move on." His voice was thick with contempt as he stared at the baby, clearly his mother's child and not his father's. A half-brother. The male wasn't even going to bother to ask who the father was. Porter was starting to regret stopping by, he had never really been happy here. His dad was alright, but with how indifferent his mother was... it was difficult to make up for that. He was perfectly positive and happy when he wasn't here, it just took coming back to realize it.
Diona looked up at her son with bright green eyes. "Now Porter, there's no need to be like that. Look, isn't he cute?" It wasn't long before the baby was thrusted into Porter's arms. The baby didn't care, he was just happy to be held.
Porter knew better then to accept his mother handing him his brother, he knew her well enough to know that she was up to something, but it was kind of hard to refuse the baby with the way she had handed him off. "So I've got a place to live, thanks for asking mother. I live with a really great female, I know you would just love] to get to know her. She's a real sweetheart, I'm sure you could get a few lessons from her..." Porter was being sour now, getting his small bit of revenge for how he had, and still was, being treated by her. Porter paused as he stared at his baby brother and stroked his cheek.
"That's great honey," she responded as she looked at her one son holding the other son. "You look great together, aw, my little family," she smiled. "What a good big brother you are Porter." her voice sounded like she was talking to the child-version of him again, in a patronizing sort of way. "Well now that you have a place of your own... maybe your brother should come and stay with you. That way you two can be best friends, otherwise you'll be too far away and he won't see his brother enough."
And there it was, Porter knew it had been coming from the moment his mother set her puffy-eyes on him. Porter sighed, as much as he didn't want to give his mother the satisfaction of agreeing to her devious little plan, he didn't want to leave this innocent to deal with her. Porter was certain his little brother's life would be worse too. At least Porter had his dad and had his brother. For the moment it didn't seem like this little guy had anyone except for him. "I want you to know... that I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing this for him."
Diona grinned, "Oh thank you Porter, you really are the best son a mother could ask for." She clapped her hands together, she could taste the freedom once again. "He doesn't have a name, why don't you name him?" She patted Porter on the shoulder and waved goodbye to the third baby she had birthed.
"Right." Porter rolled his eyes at his mother's comments. He didn't need the lies, he was already taking his brother. Porter could tell he wasn't going to get any real sincere bonding time, he was ready to go, maybe he would have better luck with dad later. The male hoped Pastela was going to be okay with him bringing home a new roommate. "See ya mom." Porter shook his head in disappointment, and headed out the door. On his walk back to Pastela's he rocked his brother back and forth. "Well, looks like its just you and me now... Lannister."
[Blah I'm not happy with this. Basically Diona gives Porter Lannister, Porter accepts responsibility because he doesn't want his little brother to have a bad life]
