huh.... I never thought that might be a factor..... but if that is true.... then what causes the no-snowflake problem?

Problems loading the game? I've had the same happen - no snowflakes, only tiny white dots. And owls.
I think somenone said that waiting a few seconds before hitting the 'play' button might help.
