Today had been one of those perfect days, and the redhead couldn't be more pleased. Freeing her hair from the elastic, she ran her hand through the thick flame red locks that adorned her head and took a breath of the fresh mountain breeze. She had to admit, this was a rather quaint retreat. Perfect temperature year round, fresh water, lush vegetation, and untouched by the masses of civilization who wouldn't hesitate to exploit this little "sacred" grove for their own profit. Though that wasn't very likely to happen here. The cult of the Church of Neron was too wrapped up in their religion to even think of taking advantage of the abundant resources which were here at their disposal. A scoff escaped the woman's lips: maybe it was their faith in their spirits and fairies to protect them that had led to their downfall. But still, even after this defeat, she knew they would continue in the old ways. The ceremonies, the traditions, blindly following their just as blind leaders as they walked in circles in the dark. Religion was just another tool, a means to control a conquered people, nothing more. Anyone who believed otherwise, in her books, was simply deluding themselves.

Booted feet moved over the beaten path with no effort at being subtle. There really was no point in hiding her presence from the one individual within the grove. The only one who mattered at the moment. The fairy child. Her prize. The woman didn't even bother casting her dark green hues skyward as a noisy flock of birds suddenly took flight and travelled overhead. As startling as it may have been in this relative silence of early evening hour, they weren't her primary concern, and she was more focused on thoughts of how this all important fairy would react in her presence. When she learned of what awaited her. And that was something she couldn't wait to see. She imagined that someone so sheltered and protected would be rather innocent, though she hoped there would be a streak of defiance. It wouldn't be any fun to capture someone who went along so willingly. She looked forward to challenges; life wasn't worth living without them.

Black pants, a low slung silver chain belt decorated with coloured glass charms and metal pieces which glinted in the last few rays of sunlight and tinkled with every movement of her hips, a dark blue gray off the shoulder crop which bared her midriff and the tattoo blazed on her side, and a black leather jacket completed her outfit. It was warm enough where she now was to be able to dress like this, in a style she preferred, though with the cooler nights, she'd opted for the jacket and not the leather bracers which were not only adorned with signs of her rank and title within the Ponticen kingdom, but also allowed her to keep her best falcon with her at all times. Even now, she missed his familiar weight on her arm and knowing that he was there, soaring above her, only a call away.

The sound of quickly running feet, snapped the redhead out of her thoughts and her eyes moved towards where the sound was coming from, quickly identifying it and slowly coming to a stop. She'd chosen to come here on her own, ahead of an escort, trusting in her own abilities to be able to keep back any attack that might possibly come her way. Her only weapon was her death magic and even then, her hands were relaxed at her side. The girl who came from behind the trees was a petite excited young thing and with her clothing and hair sticking to her, she looked almost like a drowned water rat, though with her mouth open as she gulped in air, maybe it was more like a fish out of water, desperately trying to breathe. The thought made her smile.

"Who am I?" She echoed with a pleasant expression on her face, as she watched the white haired fairy's movements. "You can call me Karen, little one." She slowly walked forward, closing the distance between them and trying not to scare the girl off. Karen read confusion and uncertainty on the girl's face and noticed her clutching the pendant on her necklace as if it could offer her protection. Or trying to hide who and what she was. The girl sneezed, and loudly at that, and Karen came to a stop just out of arm's reach. "Would you like to go get warmed up? I believe your guardian is expecting us. If memory serves me right, he said his name was Rimichi... " Another open smile and she extended her hand for the fairy to take, keeping her palm face up so the other would have a more dominant position which might reassure her. "Come along, Rikka... you don't want to catch a cold."

tab What was he going to do with Hei? He knew his tone was sharp since he was still a little frustrated from his earlier dealings with Raoul, but he didn't expect the boy to curl up and hug himself as if he expected a blow. He had to know that no matter what happened, even if he did lose his temper and lash out, the drake would be able to protect himself. Much better than Rafe could if it was the other way around. Though as his tone had softened, it seemed to catch the boy off guard and he got a bit of a smile. Thankfully. When he looked up, he caught a white haired male making his way over. The other dragon. He seemed more interested in Hei, giving him nothing more than a brief glance, before addressing his fellow dragon as a 'dumb dog'. So this was the individual Hei was telling him about… Sei… Raphael held his tongue, wondering if his housemate would speak up against the name calling, but he just let it roll over him as if it was simply nothing more than another nickname. He would have thought Sei would have been a little more… that he would have at least held back on the insults while Hei was with someone else, but he was either too arrogant, or too set in his ways, knowing that Hei wouldn't protest.

tab An eyebrow raised at the older drake's comments and then the back and forth between the two of them, his golden hues resting on Seiren finding it a little unnerving that the white haired male hardly had any emotion cross his face. He wasn't even entirely sure if he had caught a flicker of rage or if that was simply his imagination. He spoke up against the drake calling Hei stupid, only to be brushed aside as if the objection was completely insignificant. Rafe's tail curled and uncurled, fighting the annoyance he was feeling. He was usually very level-headed, but with what he'd already seen, heard, and smelled this morning that was wearing thin. The protest about the word 'monster' being used in relation to Hei died on his suddenly dry lips when he saw the white flames, and he swallowed visibly, his tail stilling it's agitated movements. He stared, seeing images of that early morning in the fire, in the flames around the other's hands. He only snapped out of it after Hei's shout, and he shook his head, bridging a hand to his suddenly pale face and rubbing a bit to bring back a bit of colour. Though he would prefer not to have his fears shouted across the field for all to hear there was nothing he could do about that now.

tab Coming fully out of the slight daze, his panic quickly dying down, Rafe tried one more time to get Seiren to actually use Hei's name for once. "He has a name, use it, and stop putting him down!" A 'pfft' and a dismissive gesture was all he got in return, and Rafe looked at Hei, his eyes urging the younger male to speak up for himself as well. Until Hei spoke out about it, it would continue to happen, and he would no doubt continue sulking around. Turning to face the other drake after the introductions, Rafe met his emotionless purple eyes with a baleful glare. It probably didn't help that he had nothing to back it up with, especially when Seiren could use fire, and Raphael made a mental note to do a little research on dragons—just for his own safety—and then broke eye contact as Raoul approached. This was definitely his signal to leave. He needed to get rid of the built up frustration in a place where he wouldn't attract too much attention.

tab Rafe's thoughts flickered back to the 'tramp' comment the moment Seiren spoke of having two wives. Either the white dragon was claiming someone else's wife as his own—though judging his reaction to Hei sleeping with Raoul that wasn't likely—or he really was given two wives. An amused smile touched his lips, though his eyes were still angry and disgusted, as he watched Seiren walk away. Raphael then turned to Hei and Raoul, and inclining his head respectfully, he took his leave as well. Hei knew they would talk later, and he really had nothing to say in front of the fae right now, especially since he couldn't trust himself.

tab Walking over towards the edge of the field where there were some bigger and older trees, Rafe closed his eyes and stopped fighting the jaguar, allowing it to come fully to the surface, shifting as he moved, having to walk past the dark haired canine, and then running up and climbing one of the trees, just to put some distance between himself and everyone else. He was in no mood to talk or hold a decent conversation like this. He should have trusted his gut and given Hei a warning. It was too late for that right now, and that irked him the most. Finding a branch that was big enough and thick enough to support his weight, he climbed onto it and stretched out, his front paws under his head, and his back legs and tail hanging off the branch. Eyes closed and taking slow breaths, he worked on organizing everything in his head. He could get it sorted out if he could get five uninterrupted minutes. Even after all these years, he was still just as likely to be ruled by his animal instincts. Or maybe it was just the combination of sex and a challenge which set it off. Or even just the way Raoul worded his statement. Whatever it was, if he was going to be living in such close proximity with other people for a year, he was going to have to control it.

Giving a small nod to confirm that Rikka was saying her name correctly, her expression shifted to one of confusion when she was told the fairy was not informed of her coming. "I'm surprised he didn't tell you," Karen said with a warm smile, though inside she was amazed that this girl was so naive. She would have thought the 'don't talk to strangers' thing was a standard rule when it came to raising children. Nevertheless, she gave Rikka's hand a gentle squeeze and would have continued to speak had they not been interrupted by the blue-white haired fox. So much for trying to get close to the girl before Rimichi came along. Time to revise and edit her plan, bringing him into the equation.

Karen kept her expression neutral, simply moving her hand back to her side when it was slapped away. She noticed the strong possessive and hummed thoughtfully while they walked a little distance away. The fox might actually be a bit of a problem, but he more than made up for what Rikka lacked so she supposed it worked out for the best. Tilting her head to the side as she watched the couple, the redhead wondered if she could play the two of them against each other at some point. She loved sowing seeds of discord, watching couples bicker and fight until they destroyed each other. As trusting as Rikka was it would probably prove difficult to get her to turn her back on Rimichi. The bonds between them were strong, they had been together for years. A smile ghosted her lips when the white haired girl bit on the male's hand and stubbornly announced that she was to be her guest. How cute. This would be much more entertaining than she had originally thought. Karen's smile grew when the fairy ran back over to her and taking her hand started to lead her towards the castle.

"Thank you, Rikka. I hope we can come to be great friends." The smile she gave the fairy was bright and cheerful, her eyes shining with hope. Karen wasn't sure how much Richimi could sense, but she hoped he wouldn't be able to easily see through her act. The necro prided herself on being able to keep a seamless mask in place and skillfully paint an image on it which suited whatever situation she would find herself in. Nine times out of ten she was successful, and those were very good odds. There were certain beings who could see through it as if it was nothing more than a annoying layer of dust over an image. Karen didn't believe she'd ever encountered a Kitsune before. At least not up close, so this would have to serve as her test. She was looking forward to it.

Rikka sneezed again and Karen paused and shrugged out of her jacket and helped the girl into it. "It isn't much, but if you won't take the kimono the jacket should keep you a little warmer." Though she was going to have to make sure she got that jacket properly dried tonight. It was her favourite jacket and she would hate for it to be ruined. Turning to the fox a small smirk played on her lips. "Oh, by the way, I don't think I'll be leaving Rikka's side any time soon. You are aware of what's to happen today, aren't you?" It had to be frustrating knowing that "his" little girl would be leaving her home with a complete stranger. Turning away from him, she continued with Rikka towards the castle, slipping easily back into the bright and sunny personality she'd assumed for the moment, to try to keep her from asking any questions about it yet. She still wasn't sure how she was going to deal with that. "After you get warmed up, would you like to meet my best friend? He's very friendly and I know he'll just love to meet you." Hand still in Rikka's Karen worked on keeping a pleasant expression on her face though her mind worked furiously. When Rikka found out what lay ahead of her, how on earth would she convince her to come along? To be perfectly honest, Rikka had no real say in the matter, but already, the brief glimpse of her personality made her want to have her along as a 'willing companion' than a disgruntled prisoner.

Karen: Character Notes
  • A promising up and coming dark mage.
  • Started gaining an interest in death magic and developed a passion for it
  • Practicing her art in a forest cemetery one foggy night, she happened upon some ancient ruins. Curious, she entered the building meeting a man who identified himself as Moran. He offered to teach her some of his craft and pass on some skills that would be useful.
  • The catch: She would have to die and be reborn.
  • What she was offered was basically immortality. So she agreed. Karen was murdered with a ceremonial dagger then brought back to life as a necromancer.
  • Modifications: small sharp canine teeth. Useful for quickly drawing blood for spells.
  • Secondary catch: She'll become more demonic with time
  • A way out??
  • Was raised in a prominent family in Ponticia, gifted with magical talent. Most in the Rione family are Dark mages. Like most other nobles, she was trained in the social graces: she can dance, make polite conversation, play some music... Though she loved magic and spent every spare moment studying and practicing, resulting in her being unusually skilled for her age. As time went on she spent more time with magic and less with her other skills, making her somewhat lacking.

'A danger to Rikka's health'? Rimichi had no idea. She would probably have to be a little careful around the overprotective fox. It would do no good to be caught so early in the game. She didn't need his trust, she just needed him to accept that she was with the oh so precious fairy and not try to steal her away in the middle of the night. Though there certainly were ways to deal with that and she intended to make full use of them during some point of the evening. If only she could find a way to do it without being obvious. Finally making it to Rikka's room, her green eyes scanned the orderly room, taking note of various objects, the decoration, any items which gave a hint to the fairy's personality, her interests, her likes. Looking for anything she could use to her advantage. The girl really was too kind and trusting: it was charming, really. Hopefully in time she'd mature and be ready to face the harsh realities of the world. Karen's gaze only returned to the room's owner when she heard a thud as she fell and seeing that she was okay, though in the process of undressing, she turned her eyes away, giving her a little more privacy. There were no thoughts of stepping out of the room, since she didn't want to face either of the foxes at the moment.

Rikka calling for her help brought her out of her observations of the bedroom and a smile spread across her face. She might as well take advantage of the rather convenient opportunity laid before her. It would be so easy to place a light blood trail on the girl and in a place she wouldn't be able to see. All that was needed was a drop and a few words and she'd be set. There'd be no running away tonight. Maybe it was just her being paranoid, but you could never be too cautious. Especially since relations between the Church of Neron and the Pontician Kingdom weren't the greatest and Karen hardly expected that to change now. "Of course I will," Once Rikka's back was turned to her, Karen quickly brought her thumb to her mouth and pricked it with an unusually sharp tooth to draw a bit of blood before she unclasped the strap. Her thumb brushed Rikka's skin and she whispered a few words as she fumbled for a fraction of a second with the strap. "There you go! Sorry about that. I'll wait outside your room until you're done, k?" Turning, and pulling her hair to one side and starting to braid it, she made her way out the room, to give Rikka a little privacy.

Out in the hallway, Karen leaned against the wall, looking around with her eyes and senses for Rimichi. Where was that kitsune when she needed him? Then again, what did it matter? Communicating with spirits and demons was what she was good at. Should be no problem to talk to one who was only hiding on the other side and not truly departed. Slipping an elastic off her wrist to tie the end of her hair, she relaxed and reached out to the spirit world. 'Rimichi, despite what you read in my aura, I'm not here to hurt your fairy. It's politics. Unfortunately she's involved.' She sighed almost sadly as if that fact distressed her on some level and then looked down, becoming suddenly apologetic. 'I think we got off on the wrong foot. Think we can try again?' It didn't hurt to ask and as long as he bought her apology....

Karen looked up and snapped out of her thoughts once Rikka's door opened and the fairy walked out in a rather adorable outfit. She could sense that the trail was still intact and that made her even happier. "Those boots are cute!" though not something she would ever wear. "I hope you don't mind if I accompany you to the dinning hall. I need to grab a treat for Zeff, my falcon." Not to mention the fact that she was a little hungry herself. With Rimichi around, she just wanted to make sure she came across as polite as possible from now on. Maybe make a second first impression? As long as she got what she wanted at the end of this, she'd play nice. Even if she wanted a new fur coat.

Listening to Chloe apologize to Sandy for coming off as frosty, the son of Hades wondered if this was going to be a regular occurrence with her. With every new demigod they ran into it seemed as though she was trying to carefully trying to hide who she really was. She was warm and cheerful with him when she didn't realize who she was, and once she did her attitude shifted completely, becoming colder and more distant. He knew that her father was king of the gods, but that didn't really mean that she had to act like him on one of his bad days. Zeus could be authoritarian when it suited him, but Kyrian didn't believe it was a full-time thing. Even his father wasn't a total pain all the time. Just when the situation called for it.

His eyes turning to Sandy, he tried once more to place her. She looked comfortable down in the human world so he assumed that she was raised by her human mother. That narrowed it down quite a bit. She wasn't his half-sister so she wasn't Hades' daughter, nor was she Zeus' daughter since Chloe was here and the gods were only sending one of their daughters and one of their sons down to earth. Sandy seemed too kind to be one of Ares' children and not a rowdy as Dionysus' children were said to be. That left Poseidon and Apollo. So now it was just to figure out which god she reminded him off. She didn't look too much like his uncle though so maybe she was the sun god's daughter? It seemed probable enough.

"You really won't be intruding, Sandy. It would be... nice to meet another demigoddess." Kyrian tried a smile, and hoped he hadn't offended her in any way. He did have to try to meet and talk to others while he was down here and stop shutting everyone out. Especially girls. He was sad to admit it, but sometimes he felt as if he was still a preteen, turning beet red at the mention of girls and being afraid to go up to them and talk to them. He didn't want to have to deal with that pain of being cast aside so easily. Sure it was one time and everyone went through it, but why did it feel like he was paying a price for being different? Nightmare whined in his arms as if sensing his mood and stopped fighting to get free and simply licked his hand instead.

The sound of the gentle breeze going through the tree was almost enough to send the panther into a peaceful sleep. It was quiet and relaxing up here, and the smell of a variety of cooked meats was a soothing aroma. It was so easy to loose track of time as he relaxed: anger, frustration, and irritation leaving his body. He would have to apologize to Raoul later. Even if he hardly believed he was in the wrong. Besides, he had no claim on Hei and wasn't in this for any long term relationship. At least not with another man. This was nothing more than a quick and easy way of earning some money. Nothing more. And if he had to play house with another man for twelve months, so be it. As long as Raoul didn't use any emotional manipulation or whatever on the boy in the future, and Hei didn't make himself such a perfect snack then he'd step aside and let Raoul take his claim. He would just have to work with Hei a little bit to make sure the young dragon didn't let himself be used again. It wasn't so much the fact that Raoul had gotten to Hei first that had upset him. It was the tone that was used and the manipulation involved.

Golden eyes reluctantly opened and he scanned the field: Takashi and Hei were at a table, Raoul had disappeared, a set of twins were near Seiren, and a small group of four which included the other fae and the saltwater fish were talking together. Not much had changed and as long as Seiren was near the twins he wouldn't go over there. He supposed it was enough time to actually take a nap for a while. His golden hues closed again and he shifted a little, getting more comfortable on his branch before he sighed in contentment. His ears flickered as he listened to the sounds around him. Sometimes he missed just being in the wild. There were no conventions he had to adhere to, there was no bad stress. Only the good kind that kept you alive, made you work to get stronger than your opponents. Only two basic drives. Could the ability to shift have made him lazy? It ensured the survival of the species, but at what cost? A cousin had mated with a human and his children were a mix of human and jaguar based shifters. And all four of them preferred their human lives....

Just as he began to drift into a peaceful sleep as his thoughts shifted from family to the beautiful sight of a heavy sun-shower viewed from inside a cave in a densely wooded area, until a new scent and presence entered his awareness. A male leaning against his tree. The coppery smell of blood clung to this one like a jealous lover, refusing to let go. A vampire perhaps? He also smelled of Raoul. Faint, but just enough for him to pick up on it. Raphael waited a few minutes wondering if the male with the smell of blood would go away and let him catch a powernap, but the other didn't seem too inclined to join the rest of the group. Rafe lazily opened his eyes and yawned, showing off his powerful jaw, and then worked on an itch. "You're one of those silent observant types." The statement could be taken as a question, but since the new male was over here and not with the others, he assumed he was right. Or the male was shy... which probably wasn't a good trait in a vampire "Have you noticed anything interesting?" Rafe stopped fussing with the itch and turned to regard the dark haired male he was talking to for the first time and then did a double take. A kid?!? Wasn't he too young to be here?

Rafe made his way down the tree before he took his human form once more. He didn't want the other to strain his neck looking up at him, and he supposed it was only polite if he addressed the other as a human. Although he couldn't help but wonder.... How old is this guy? Somehow he had this feeling that the male he was addressing was much older than he appeared. Reminded him almost of Claudia with her curly blonde hair and doll like innocent face hiding a highly manipulative and sadistic woman beneath in Interview with the Vampire. Except the vampire before him was a male with dark hair. Personality traits could be similar. Maybe it was best to get on his good side. Extending his hand, his eyes displaying open curiosity and interest, Rafe introduced himself. This guy really wasn't one of the other participants in this experiment was he? Even if he was twice the age he appeared to be, the people in charge of this wouldn't have stuck someone who looked like a child with—actually he had to take that back. It appeared as though they were interested in all types of relationships so maybe something like this was included. Humans were odd creatures... /size]

The fact that the other had known his name even without an introduction startled him somewhat, a slight look of uncertainty crossing his face while his brow furrowed wondering if perhaps he had met this man before. Though a second later he had his answer and his eyebrows shot up in surprise. He would have thought that the experimenters presence in this experiment would somehow influence the results or whatever, so they wouldn't have any direct contact with the participants. Though maybe he was wrong. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Salvatore." he said, quickly and firmly shaking his hand. "There's no need to apologize. I should probably work on mixing with the others anyway." He gave an embarrassed half-smile and then turned back to regard the others who were still somewhat congregated together. "The houses are grand, but comfortable. It'll take some getting used to." And hopefully before too long he could have the place looking a little better than a five star hotel room.

There was only so much that could be done to make a temporary house feel like home. Paint, pictures, knickknacks... The things that added a personal touch. Some of it could be bought in stores, but doing it all at once seemed forced. Artificial. It was better to make it gradual, the items changing and taking meaning based on experiences with others. A visual representation of your life if you will. Which only meant that the house would continue to look too neat and perfect for quite some time. And just like everyone else's house. Oh well.

What did the other experimenters hope to accomplish by Nethanial's presence here? They would already have the video and journal entries to study... provided everyone submitted one. Maybe that was the reason the vampire would be sitting in on some of the events. Though a camera would accomplish the task just as well and wouldn't be as easily noticed. Well he wouldn't notice the camera as easily as he picked up on new scents. "Can you tell me anything about the last couple participating in this experiment? Or is your role only to observe without giving any extra information?" He looked back into those dark blue eyes that attested to this man having lived a long life, experienced many different things and still managed to somehow come out sane. Reasonably sane. Whichever he was. There really was no relation between how well one dressed and their level of sanity in his experience. One of the most sane and interesting people he knew dressed in patched up clothes and lived in a rather rundown appartment, just trying to make ends meet. The most insane was a rather wealthy individual who dressed the part and lived in a gated community. And somewhere on that spectrum was where Nethanial resided. Only time would tell what the years had done to this man.

It was difficult for Karen to keep walking back to her room after she left Rikka and Richimi instead of eavesdropping. The shy look Rikka gave her as she walked out of her room... Was that because of her words, or did she sense something? Maybe she was underestimating the girl... What did it matter as long as things proceeded smoothly. Karen sighed, blowing strands of hair that weren't caught by her braid out of her face, and continued down the hall. It wasn't far to the room she was assigned, and as soon as she closed the door behind her, she made her way to where Zephyr was perched, her expression softening as he spread his wings slightly as if in greeting. His wings were beautiful. Broad with white flight feathers lightly barred with brown, a black bar on the edge of the wing leading into some browns. Three months to get him properly imprinted, but it was worth second of it. "My handsome Zeff..." she cooed, lightly brushing the feathers on his head for a second. "You must be hungry." She may not have had any meat with her in the room, but she did have some fur and feathers which he did need to supplement his diet. She'd give him a bit of that, before she let him out to find something for himself. Karen would have loved to watch, but there was a schedule to keep. Not that it wasn't open to modifications. Karen watched him go, admiring the powerful predator as he soared through the air. He might not be as affectionate as some other animals, but that was part of the attraction. Moving away from the window, she went to clean up a bit, grabbing her bracers and strapping them on her arms so they wouldn't feel as bare before and to make it easier for Zeff to perch once she went outside again, Karen once again left the room.

Finding the dinning hall took little effort, though she couldn't help but sense that some were looking at her with apprehension or sadness. Too visible a display of where she came from? Perhaps. But she'd only brought one jacket with her and that was in the fairy's room. Booted feet clicked against the tiled floors and she made her way into the hall as quietly as possible. Rimichi was slipping out of the room as she arrived and she stopped and watched him go. Apparently he was one of many here who weren't too pleased with the arrangement, but it was out of their hands. Out of hers too unfortunately. She couldn't believe Lord Asher would with that fairy. He deserved someone so much better, someone who could challenge him. And not simply because they had opposing beliefs. Karen ground her teeth together in annoyance; she could only hope he knew what he was doing. Hell that went for everyone who was involved in that treaty. History showed that these kinds of arrangements were never entirely peaceful. It only lasted until someone somewhere decided that their rights were being violated and stirred up a rebellion. It would happen eventually here like it did everywhere else. 'And what is that to you, Karen? I thought you craved war. Is that not what you told me.' Karen's eyes grew distant and she pulled away from the door, not going in just yet and focusing on that dark voice in her head. He may have helped her, but she paid her debt, she owed him nothing further.

'Of course I crave it, Riven. What better way to practice my skills? You know that better than most. But to have Lord Asher tied to that fairy is disgusting.' There was a dry laugh and a ghost of a caress along her exposed back which had her entire body tensing reflexively. Then his voice so close to her ear that she could have sworn that he was standing right behind her. 'Never play fair, my sweet. There's no reason why this has to be final. If you want the lord for yourself, you'll just have to take him." The voice grew louder and Karen turned half expecting to see him standing there, only to see one of the servants standing there asking if she was alright. "Yes, I'm fine, thanks." There was a bit of hesitation but eventually he walked away and Karen watched him walk away before she wrapped up her conversation: 'I'll have to deal with that fox first... and make sure she gets there in one piece.'

'Not all wounds are physical. Remember, only fools hesitate.' The presence faded and Karen shook her head to clear it and then walked into the dining hall, finding the atmosphere in the room rather somber... and maybe just a bit antagonistic. Well it was probably what she should have expected. Karen didn't immediately go to find her seat, but first made her way to the bishop, speaking first to one of his attendants before going directly to him. "I understand that we are to leave tonight for the Pontician Kingdom, however..."
Green eyes shifted to glance at Rikka, thinking of ways to win some points before turning back to the bishop. "I humbly suggest that we change the time of departure until tomorrow morning. We won't be able to travel far before nightfall and the daughter of Yggdrasil should get one comfortable night's rest before the long journey." She supposed that was a decent offer and as the other's brows furrowed in thought Karen believed that he would give her an answer either way after a moment, but he waved her off apparently deciding to come to a decision after he had eaten.

Karen made a polite bow and then turned away, trying to keep the irritation out of her face, as she moved away from the table and went to get her food and find her seat. Once she heard whether or not the bishop agreed with her she was out of here. Being around these people for too long was making her uncomfortable. Such positive energy.

❝ТHΞ ΞΛЯТH ÐФΞS ЛФТ БΞŁФЛG ТФ US. ШΞ БΞŁФЛG ТФ ТHΞ ΞΛЯТH❞

tab It was still early in the morning when Josh returned to his appartment after his run. He needed the time to think and organize his thoughts for the day. How was he supposed to simply get up and leave for this journey not knowing how long it would take before he was able to return? How would he explain this to his family? 'Hey, mom, I decided to forget about school and jobs and go on an adventure somewhere. I don't know when or if I'll ever see you again...' A soft snort of derision escaped his as he walked into the building and over to the elevators. Yeah right. He supposed he could always say he decided to go traveling over his summer break... Whatever. Running a hand through his slightly damp, dark brown hair he sighed, looking up at the numbers above the elevator door. He was planning on being a doctor not a fighter. Sure the weapon, Lorea had picked out for him wasn't as distasteful as a gun, but it still felt awkward in his hand. And practicing? He could hardly find the time. At any rate, he preferred the defensive and support roles. If there were any.

Stepping out on the tenth floor, Joshua made his way to his appartment, and walked inside, instantly greeted by the small Earth fairy. "Josh!" She cried, flying into his arms. "I'm so glad you're back. We need to head out and begin our quest! Though..." She scrunched up her nose and made a face before flying out of his hands and back a meter. "You need a bath. All that running made you sweaty." Josh laughed. Lorea. What a sweet thing, if a tad annoying. Work, work, work. That was all she spoke about. And she was as stubborn as he was. Once she took a stand, she dug in her heels and gave you such a look with determined honey brown eyes and a frim set of her lips, that eventually you found yourself giving in. But she was adorable in the way she always rushed to greet him when he came home. It always put a smile of his face, no matter what his mood had been previously.

"I know Lorea. It's hot out there this morning." Joshua started taking off his shirt as he walked over to the bathroom. "Why don't you get breakfast ready for me while I shower, hmm?" He glanced over at her with a teasing look in his eyes even as she chided him. She knew he was kidding. "After I shower and while I'm getting breakfast ready, why don't you tell me about what you have planned for us today. It already sounds like you have some idea." Lorea fluttered around his head, a smile on her face, seemingly happy that her partner was in a receptive mood today. If would make her job that much easier.

Showered, dressed and seated at the breakfast table working on his yogurt and cereal, Josh listened to Lorea lay out her thoughts on what he should be doing today. He nodded and made rather non committal sounds when asked for his opinion on things, not entirely sure if he would go along with this plan. It didn't really sound interesting. Not a way he would really want to be spending his day. He leaned against the counter after he finished washing his dishes, and hummed thoughtfully. "Well okay. I need to get some errands done so we'll do those first. I can't really leave without telling people so they know not to worry." Josh took one final look around the kitchen and then nodded to himself, as if assuring himself that this was the best course of action, before he pushed away from the counter and started to make his way back to the front door. "Where are we going?" Lorea inquired, as she hurried to catch up to him and catch a ride on his shoulder. "The store. You said this trip could be dangerous, so I just want to be prepared." Closing the door behind him, he walked out of the apartment and back onto the streets. He lived in town so it was rather easy to get anywhere without taking a car. Besides, if he ever did burden himself down with things, he could just take the bus or tram. They were incredibly reliable here.

Rikka's words had Karen's jaw hanging open slightly in shock. For someone who seemed so childish, she spoke with a level of maturity that Karen just wasn't expecting. Drawing her lips together she hummed thoughtfully, her eyes going around the room and observing the expressions of those in the room after Rikka finished her speech and walked out. She now had an answer to her question to the bishop and there would be no further discussion on the issue. She still didn't think they were going to get very far tonight, but maybe the fairy would once again surprise her. Clicking her tongue lightly in annoyance, she went back to her meal, finishing it and trying to catch snippets of the conversation around her. Though it would appear as though they were more subdued in her presence. If there was something more she was going to learn, it wasn't going to be in here.

Finished with her lunch, she cleaned up after herself and went to leave the room. Passing the cook along the way, she politely asked for a few pieces of uncooked meat be set aside for her so she could take it when they left. From the look in the cook's eyes, she wasn't entirely sure if she would get any and might have to just hope that Zeff was successful on his hunt. Either way, she would have to get ready to go soon. Thankfully she hadn't unpacked too much and it wouldn't take her long Karen rubbed her eyes, just a little longer and she was out of here. With that girl and the fox. The girl she would have to revise her opinion about. Though she seemed a bit childish and easy to manipulate at first glance, she did have a stubborn streak, as was demonstrated in the dinning hall. Not only that but she wasn't as humble as Karen had thought. Pity. Now she really wouldn't have to work as hard on her charade. The less effort she had to spend being a more kind and respectful example of what Poticia had to offer, the more energy she could spend in other things. Right now though, she wanted a relaxing bath before they left. But, she also didn't want to miss out on watching Zephyr as he soared through the skies on a hunt. It didn't particularly matter if he managed to catch something this time since they could probably manage to fit in time for another hunt later and if the cook was kind enough she would have her little bag of meat.

Stopping in front of the hallway that led to the front door Karen debated whether or not she she go to her room and organize a few things now or go out and watch Zeff for a bit. With a light click of her tongue, she turned towards the doors, walking outside and looking up to the skies, searching for Zephyr's familiar shape in the sky. She could watch him as he hunted for a while, taking the moment to forget that she was a stranger here, a mostly unwanted on at that, and relax in the crisp mountain air. But where was that handsome red-tailed hawk of hers? Had he already found something and eagerly devouring it? Karen hoped that was the case and that in a moment he would be back above the tree tops and in sight. There was only really one way to find out though. She'd marked his jessies with a blood trail a while back and all she had to do was find it and she would find him easily. Well as long as Rikka was inside since there really was no differentiating between the two marks.

Strangely, though, she could sense both relatively close to her. And that wasn't what she was expecting. "She better not be trying to feed or pet him." Karen muttered heading in that direction. Zeff wasn't a very 'friendly' raptor, but he was opportunistic like any other and if that fairy offered him food he just might take it. Not to mention the problem she would have later if they travelled together and she kept this up. And if he was taking the food right from her hand. She drew in her breath sharply through her teeth as her step quickened. She could still hear the warning she was given before she left for this trip: Do not harm her in any way. Physical harm that was. If Zeff's talons scratched her the priests here would probably be on her a**. Even if it wasn't her fault. And the last thing she wanted to do when so close to the castle was rustle any feathers.

"Zephyr," she called, seeing the hawk with Rikka and immediately getting his attention and holding out her arm for him to fly onto it. "What are you doing, Rikka? He's not one of those domesticated birds you can pet and they'll be all warm and affectionate towards you." Though Karen could sense that wasn't all the fairy was up to. There was a sense of magic in the air. It surrounded her and flowed onto the hawk. What in the Destroyer's name was she doing?! If this was in anyway harming him... "What were you doing to him?" Whatever relief she may have felt at seeing that Rikka had covered her arm in bark to protect herself from the talons was pushed to the background as she examined her prized hawk for any injuries.

ETHAN ROUKE the HERBALIST joυrɴαl ~~✍

The forest always seemed to have an unusual calming stillness in the middle of a warm summer afternoon. He hadn't been in Elysium for long and to be perfectly honest, this was his first fireworks festival since he'd arrived during the beginning of spring. He was still trying to get accustomed to life here, seeing it for the first time with his own eyes and not through the stories his mother wrote. It didn't seem as bad as she'd described it, but then all towns had their secrets and he was sure this one was no exception. Other than those who worked at the cafe, and general store—and only briefly at that—and his boss, Ethan hadn't had many dealings with those in town. Until he was sure of where he stood with the residents he would do his best not to make too many waves. Then again, tonight was the festival and he was told by his father that usually it was a time for couples to hook up at observe the fireworks together. Apparently he would be alone this year, but it really wasn't all that bad. There were other festivals and at this one he would do his best to try to meet some people.

Ethan sighed out and looked over the little figuring he was carving in his hand, trying to decide . It wasn't for anyone in particular, but it just helped him pass the time. It was a holiday for everyone and he didn't see the need to worry too much about gathering herbs today. Besides, he already had a fair bit and he would have to wait till later in the season for them to be at their peak. The only sound that could be heard other than the birds chirping through the trees and the gentle rustle of the breeze going through the leaves, was the sound of the sharp edge of his knife shaving off bits of the wood, changing the shape from a simple wood block to that of some type of dog. He still wasn't entirely sure if he would spend the time and add any further details later or if it would just be some nondescript canine. Either way, the decision would have to wait as he was rather interested in going towards the town square and looking around. Even if he didn't really contribute anything this year he assumed it would be no problem. He'd just bring extra to the next festival... whenever that was.

Standing, he brushed himself off and made his way through the forest and back into town. It was a pleasant little walk and he rather enjoyed himself. The silence was good while it lasted at any rate. And now as he approached the square and noticed a few people were already there and booths set up. Not knowing who to approach first left him feeling just a bit uncomfortable and he avoided making eye contact with any one person for too long, just long enough to serve as a greeting of sorts, while he walked over to a table and examined the wears. Jewellery, clothing, food. All of it looking great and he was sorely tempted to try something on or buy a few things. That was the problem with being a new arrival. Ethan still wasn't sure what he wanted or needed in his new home, and no matter what he added it still had the feeling of newness to it. It was rather unnatural really. It was missing that special something that just said home. Something permanent and not temporary. He did intend to stay here for the foreseeable future.

A stall with some hand crafted jewellery caught his eye and he stopped at the table, speaking to the vendor about her art, asking a few questions and then walking away with a bracelet made of braided hemp and interspersed with beads, bits of metal, and shells. His new purchase around his wrist, he walked away from the vendor, noticing the woman at the fountain sitting alone and looking just a bit bored. "Good afternoon. I hope I'm not disturbing you," he said after he approached, giving her a warm smile and extending a hand. "My name's Ethan Rouke. The new guy. I don't believe we've met." The smile didn't leave his face, though he was caught a little off guard by the colour of her eyes. Red was an unusual colour. Could she possibly be one of the elves who resided in town? "If you're waiting for someone, I hope you don't mind my presence until he or she arrives. This day's too beautiful for anyone to be sitting alone."

Well he was trying to be friendly and only hoped he wasn't coming on too strong. But at least he didn't invade her personal space too much.

Raphael's journal Notes:
Just some information that I have so far. It's easier working as I go.

  • If I could say one thing about today, I wish I could change a few things. It started out wonderfully. If waking up to find Hei had disappeared was a good start. At any rate, I took the time to explore the forest and managed to catch a good breakfast. The forest here is rather nice. There are some great spots to just hide away from the world. I've already claimed one area as mine and it should be easy enough to 'enforce' that with all the other individuals around who are part animal. Not too sure about the faes but they don't really pose much of a threat. At least not when it comes to being able to find a space to relax and just be myself.
From that lovely morning, things just seemed to go downhill. Getting back to the house, I found that Hei had already left for the BBQ and then a plain, unaddressed envelope arrived in the mail. It appeared as though Hei's foster mother was being stalked. I never got a chance to talk to him about it tonight since he was just exhausted after today's activities, but hopefully, I'll get a chance to bring it up tomorrow. I really don't like keeping it from him.
Then after only spending less than five minutes at the event, Raoul comes up and informs Takashi and myself that he had "tasted" Hei, apparently shifting his emotions towards something sexual. The way that was put got my blood boiling and I had to take some time to cool off. I'll definitely be watching their relationship from now on. Though I did meet Seiren and get a glimpse at my housemate's relationship with the other dragon. It's strange and troubling to see Hei being taken advantage of. Even if he doesn't believe that to be the case. I had always thought that a dragon wouldn't put up with that kind of behaviour, but Hei seems be be so accustomed to it that he willingly tucks his head and takes it. And the sad thing about this, is that I sort of agree with Seiren's words of warning to Hei about Raoul. I don't like the way it was phrased, but Sei's right. Hei is just setting himself up to be hurt.
The pool party was entertaining to say the least. I spent more time with Seikyo and Nym and getting to know them. After a few glasses to drink, Seikyo was talkative and smiling. He's an interesting person to be with and hopefully I can get to know him better. The other two they were with when I met them were a little colder for some reason. There was the dark haired wolf and then a salt water something. Well some sort of fish to be honest. Not entirely sure what he is. Maybe they just don't like cats. Not my problem.
    Character updates
Takashi: He is as interested as ever. He sees no problem with flirting in public. Even with the eyes of his partner and the other men around. It's refreshing in a way and were we not assigned partners at the start I probably wouldn't be playing as hard to get. Even if I don't really see anything developing between myself and Hei. At least not right now. I'll see what happens tomorrow when we go into town. Should be rather interesting.
Hei: Right now he appears to be more of a housemate than anything. I'd love to help him so he doesn't get belittled or taken advantage of again. That's one thing I would still like to accomplish before this experiment is over. After he wrapped himself in Raoul's sent I still feel a little uncomfortable getting close to him. It feels like I'm trying to sleep with my brother's mate. Although his pantheress would no doubt fight violently against the idea, Hei might actually allow a bit of hugging and cuddling.
Nethanial: one of the people in charge of this experiment. He's a vampire and can change his appearance. At first he appeared to be a child of about ten years old. Well dressed in expensive running shoes. Then his form blurred into that of a twenty-something year old. Dressed casually, but still showing his wealth. Makes me wonder how old he really is. He has the most interesting blue eyes I have ever seen.
Seikyo: A hellhound. He's a little shy, quiet, and reserved, but after a few drinks, he opened up and was actually a really funny and kind person. I enjoyed talking to him. He's probably one of those guys that other people want to get to know but he's too reserved to actually talk to them.
Nym: Outgoing and a fae who I actually feel comfortable around. I'm still a little wary but he doesn't feel like a threat the same way Raoul does.
The twins: I can't tell them apart just yet. Their performance was... interesting to say the least. Their personalities are quite different and I suppose that once I stop confusing their names in my head I'll have no problem with them. They're staying with Seiren though, so I don't think I'll be seeing much of them

ETHAN ROUKE the HERBALIST joυrɴαl ~~✍

Seeing her rise to shake his hand, Ethan let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He didn't know what he had been worried about. The worst thay could have happened was for her to say she was waiting for a date and shoo him away. Though embarrassing it wouldn't have been the end of the world. And thankfully that didn't happen. The movement of her free hand as she tucked her hair behind her ear caught his attention and he took a quick glance, noticing her pointed ears. It appeared as though his guess was right. He had a very limited experience with elves in the past and he couldn't help the fact that his smile faltered just a bit. Overall, the pleasant expression on his face remained intact, though he was a little uncertain. "Your namesake is a beautiful flower," he said politely. Well at least the boughs were in some flower arrangements he'd seen. Not to mention the fact that the flower itself was rather useful. Ethan heard himself speaking without being truly conscious of the words leaving his lips: "It's a pleasure to meet you, Forsythia. I work at the carpenter's as the herbalist."

Audrey would probably be hitting him upside the head right now for allowing the stories to get to him while he was talking to someone. Forsythia seemed a little shy and it was a little hard to get a good read on her since ger expression had hardly changed in the pause when he waited for her to introduce herself, but she didn't seem vain and uptight. At least not yet. "I work at the library..." Ethan's expression shifted to one if curiosity as she mentioned the library, seeming to forget about what was previously on his mind as she mentioned something that caught his interest. "Oh? I take it you enjoy to read then." What other reason would she have to work at a library? They weren't very 'exciting' places to spend ones time, especially on a slow afternoon. "My mother's a writer and it sometimes feels as though I've lived my entire life surrounded by books in some way or form." It was a starting point he supposed, something they did have in common. 'Are we really so different, Ethan? We both love this earth, the trees, the air, its creatures...' Audrey's words ran through him, reminding him of his promise to her. A promise that was easy to make, but harder to keep.

Forsythia may be just as nervous as he was. He could remember Audrey telling him that elves did share their own stories about humans, and that for every negative or frightening thing he could say about elves from the stories he was told, she could tell him something similar about humans that she had heard in her village. Breathing in deeply through his nose and slowly letting it out the same way, he pushed the thoughts out of his head, thinking of something they had in common. It was on the tip of his tongue to ask Forsythia about a favourite author when a masculine voice interrupted him. "Good day, Miss Thia." Ethan turned slightly to see a male who was quite a bit taller than him, making a polite bow. While he asked her a question, Ethan reminded himself that the purpose of this was to make a few acquaintances and learn a bit more about the town. Which meant putting any insecurities he may have at the back of his mind. And from the way this guy addressed Forsythia, he could only assume that things between humans and elves weren't too bad here. Then again, this was only one instance...

A quick study of the other's person as he spoke to Forsythia didn't reveal the telltale elven ears, any unusual eye colour, or anything else that would strike him as nonhuman. He was well dressed and appeared to be hardworking. Two admirable traits in anyone. The outfit on the guy made Ethan feel just a bit underdressed in his slightly ripped faded jeans and plain gray t-shirt. The male introduced himself, offering his hand and Ethan gave a confident handshake as he spoke. "Ethan Rouke, the herbalist. I've only arrived a few weeks ago." He tried to picture the Ranch in his mind, or at the very least its location to make a mental association between the place and Levi for his own personal knowledge. "Are you two good friends?" He hoped his question didn't cause anyone any offence. And he didn't want them jumping to conclusions either. Ethan hadn't been sure what he would encounter in Elysium. He'd heard stories of veiled hatred and open condescension coming from both parties and all he had seen while he was here was some sort of idyllic paradise between the two groups. He still had many questions about the town and its history but he was sure he would discover those answers in time.
