It's all over and it's time to move on

Chitauri ships rained down from the sky obliterating everything in site like creatures from the gates of Hell itself. Buildings collapsed one after another, showering those below with deadly tickets to the afterlife. Chitauri soldiers prowled the city hunting down men, woman and children only to brutally murder every single one they came across. Humans scrambled like ants trying to find some place to hide and pray to any deity that would listen that the horror would soon end. Captain America & Thor rescued those they could from the Chitauri soldiers on the ground, and Capt. did his best to organize police responses. Hawkeye ran about the rooftops unleashing his arrows on unsuspecting Chitauri who rode on flying scooters, and he even took out Loki with one of his explosive arrows. Hulk climbed the skyscrapers tackling the large whale-like ships flying through the city, killing many Chitauri in the process. Black Widow fought her way through the Chitauri soldiers over to the top of Stark Tower, where Dr. Selvig was with Loki’s portal generator. She hit the doctor hard, managing to break the spell Loki had placed over him, and together set to work shutting down the machine. Meanwhile Ironman was on track to intercept a nuclear missile that was headed to Stark Tower. If the bomb were to hit the tower, even more lives would be lost this day and Manhattan as we know it would be gone. As the chaos continued Hulk challenged Loki himself to a fight. Both fought hard, but it was the Hulk who had won and left Loki in an indentation in the floor. Stark caught the missile and was headed straight for the portal. He would hurl it at the dimensional invaders, making sure they think twice about enslaving the planet Earth. At least that had been the plan.

The Chitauri however had other ideas. An alien ship targeted the missile and realizing Ironman was headed towards the portal, shot at it without hesitation. Seeing it coming Stark tried to swerve out of the way, but was hit in the process loosing his grip on the missile. The missile fell into the ocean below and exploded upon impacting the ocean floor. Stark’s emergency power came online in time to watch the missile splash into the ocean. It had been their one chance to end this and now it was too late. On the platform of Stark Tower, Chitauri soldiers swarmed it overwhelming Black Widow & Dr. Selvig, despite intervention from Hawkeye, before they had a chance to shut the machine down. On the ground Thor, Captain America & Hulk were in the motions of retreating, recognizing that their situation was going from worse to much worse. They would retreat for now, but they would not give up fighting until Loki and the Chitauri were defeated once and for all.

City by city and great nation by great nation fell at the hands of Loki and the Chitauri. Each time they were met by resistance and retaliation courtesy of the Avengers & SHEILD. Each time Loki and the Chitauri overwhelmed and defeated them. The battles went on for months that soon turned into years, but still Evil seemed to have the upper hand. Eventually Thor decided he needed the council of his father: the great and wise Odin. He invited the other Avengers to come with him to Asguard and promised them that they would return one day and wrench out of Loki’s grasp. After some deliberation it was decided. They would go to Asguard to regroup and then return with new hope to Earth. Banner agreed to go only on the condition that his girlfriend went with them, though Betty objected to this and decided that would stay on Earth in SHEILD's custody. In the end Tony, Bruce, Natasha & Clint agreed to go, though it didn’t feel right to them leaving Earth when she needed them the most. Agent Fury & Maria Hill assured them that SHIELD would keep the rebellion alive until they returned to vanquish Loki. Captain America though declined the offer, despite the assurances of Nick Fury he decided to stay and help keep the rebellion alive. He thought it would be in humanities best interest if at least one of the Avengers were to remain on Earth. It would give humanity a flicker of hope while the rest of the team was on Asguard recovering and plotting to take down. And so they said their good-byes and left Earth.

Upon arriving in Asguard the Avengers were first brought to the healing room, before gaining an audience with Odin. The wise god listened to the Avengers tale of how Loki and his Chitauri allies had defeated them and slowly conquered the Earth. At the end of the tale, Odin assured them that they had made the correct choice in withdrawing from battle. He then advised them to gather strong allies of their own. Only then would they be strong enough to finally bring Loki’s tyrannical reign over Earth to an end and free Earth from her enslavement. It made sense, but it could take a matter of months or even years to gather an army of their own to finally defeat Loki and the Chitauri. Though it seemed like their only choice. After more deliberation, it was decided. Natasha and Hawkeye would be sent back to Earth in order to inform Captain America of the new development, meanwhile the rest of the team would start the search for formidable allies.

Earth has fallen to the siege of Loki and the Chitauri. Loki is now the supreme ruler of all Earth, while the Chitauri enforce his rule from the shadows. The surviving humans and some mutants have been enslaved and live in less than humane and/or sanitary conditions. They are the fodder that Loki has used to rebuild the island of Manhattan into a technology advanced fortress city, which Loki has dubbed: New Asguard. The fortress island serves as both Loki’s Base of Operations and his home. The structure that he calls home was once Stark Tower as it looks over the entire island. The Chitauri have colonized on Earth and their Leader Thanos rules the Earth along side Loki as a sort of advisor. Though without Thanos the Chitauri would never listen to Loki, and the god knew this quite well. That is why he made an alliance with the Brotherhood of Mutants, who sees themselves as the better species of Earth.

Meanwhile, twenty years past on Earth. SHEILDS Rebellion is still alive and has an underground Head Quarters beneath the ruins of Professor X’s mansion. They also have other bases across the globe, which they are in contact with almost constantly. There both humans and mutants work together to survive and also retaliate against the tyrannical reign of Loki & the Chitauri. SHIELD is now run by Maria Hill, (Nick Fury having been killed by a Chitauri during an assault he led), with Hawkeye as her second in command. The X-men are lead by Storm (as Xavier is dead), with Logan as her second in command. SHEILD & the X-Men have been working together in order to gain ground against Loki & the Chitauri. They have been focusing on liberating the enslaved humans and mutants, who are being kept in concentration camps of sorts. As with any battles there are casualties, and both sides have lost soldiers, but they keep on fighting so that humans and mutants never loose hope of winning Earth back from the dimensional invaders.

Now the Avengers have come back to Earth with strong allies of their own. They are determined to end Loki's tyranny and give humans and mutants back their planet. Loki is well aware of the return Thor & company, but he is not worried. He and the Chitauri defeated them before, and they would again despite the Avengers new allies. Besides he had the Brotherhood of Mutants on his side as well this time. Loki also thought he had an ace in the whole against his brother: Shortly after Thor's retreat to Asguard, Loki had captured Thor's human lover Jane Foster and had kept her as his prisoner. As long as he had her, Loki thought Thor wouldn't touch him.

Hazel cautiously treaded though the Greenhouse located on the third sub level underneath what had been previously been known as Xavier's School of the Gifted; a haven for mutant children... until the mansion was completely and utterly destroyed. No one was quite sure how long it would take for this newer base to be found out by enemy forces, however it was quite a grim thought to consider and people tended to think in the present tense opposed to the future. So, sticking to the present, Hazel found herself very thoroughly checking for any other human (or mutant) presence in the greenhouse. She loved the place; the peace and quiet, the lush colours and drifting scents of the plant life, and of course one could not forget that it supplied all the oxygen for the underground facility. Very important fact. "Hello?" she meekly called out though the room feeling exceptionally awkward. "No response..." she confirmed internally, glancing about the miniaturised jungle a final time before deeming the coast was clear. The skirmishes between the Rebels and the Chitauri had come to a temporary standstill, how long it would last was anyone's guess. Still, it gave the rare opportunity of free time to both ends of the conflict to rest and resupply. In Hazel's case it gave her time to listen to "Bohemian Rhapsody" without the fear of anyone making an odd face at her 'passionate' music appreciation. She could not deny to herself the absolute bliss it created for her, and in times of war it was a much needed escapism. With the reassurance that no one else was viewing the little spectacle she slipped on her iPod headphones and let the creative genius of Queen's music drown out the rest of the world. The lyrics slipped from between her lips, slowly gaining volume as the young woman's confidence built up.

Soon enough she was singing along in her own playful voice, over exaggerating certain lines and making several dramatic hand gestures along with the music. Swaying and hopping from side to side with a new-found energy, she couldn't internally help but think about how much of a child or a goof ball she must appear externally. The overwhelming factor was however, she was having fun, true bliss! (Such a rare emotion in the time of war it was worth the risk of looking like an idiot) Now she just had to hope the little episode didn't attract any one's attention, how embarrassing a discovery that would be! Luckily she took some confidence in the fact most social interactions took place on the sub levels above her, considering the third was usually for the most part empty. (Perfect for avoiding unneeded spectators while she acted like a self admitted fool)
