Indent It wasn't that he had gotten lost.
Indent No, it went more along the lines of this: he'd arrived back on Earth for the first time in twenty years, and after almost five minutes of aimless wandering in attempt to find his companions, he'd been attacked by Loki's Chitauran guards. The... Other guy, as Bruce still referred to him as, had naturally not taken very well to the assault, and had broken free suddenly to dispatch the threat. As well as any remaining threat for several city blocks. Before running off to who even knew where, where he'd left Bruce alone, lost and with effectively ruined pants a day later. After some wandering, part of him could take a very educated guess on where he was - though the thought made him ache to think of how things had changed in the last two decades. Because this was Harlem. The place where, over twenty years ago, he'd fought the Abomination - Emil Blonsky - and pretty much destroyed the surrounding area. And in the distance, if he wasn't mistaken, was Tony's old tower.
Indent The world had changed drastically in his absence, and not for the better.
Indent The man sighed, using the hand not holding up his stretched, tattered slacks to run back through his dark curls. Truly, it was disheartening. But for now he needed to focus on finding his companions, finding his way out of here. Thankfully it seemed that his reign of destruction hadn't gone unnoticed - after wandering for some time through what used to be upper Manhattan, there was the sound of crunching car tires driving slowly up behind him. Something he hadn't heard in quite some time. For how advanced Asgard was in certain technologies, they still didn't have cars, and relied on horses for travel. So when he turned, it was slowly, dark chocolate irises regarding the vehicle warily as a man in a bulletproof vest and other combative gear stepped out. First a foremost Bruce noticed the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo emblazoned on his upper right arm and on the top right corner of his vest. " Dr. Banner? " A slight inclination of his head. " Yes? " The man gave a polite smile " We had... Eyes, in the area, that informed us of your... Entrance. Welcome back to Earth. " Another nod. A tight, thin little smile. " ..Thanks. So, you're with S.H.I.E.L.D. " Not a question - an observation. " Yes sir. I'm to accompany you back to base, if you'll come with me. " Bruce quirked a brow. Why not? After all, even if this was some sort of trick, he was in no danger. If it wasn't, he'd just be on his way... Home. Or the closest thing he had to one now.
Indent The two of them got in the car and drove off, Bruce settling in for a trip filled with a tense, somewhat awkward silence. They arrived just ahead of another car, a black Acura - one that was surrounded by a small group of guards within the next two minutes. As they drove into the basement garage of the ruined former school the scientist kept his gaze on the mirror beside his window, watching a female figure push her way through the group towards the car before his own turned and he lost sight of the scene. From there he was led indoors, first and foremost to what appeared to be an infirmary, where he was quickly checked out and then, much to his relief, given a set of new clothes. Then, he was directed to stop by the Commander's office. Naturally his first thought was Fury - after all, how would he know any different? So with a quiet thanks he turned to leave, following the directions he was given to the office, only to stop suddenly at the doorway. Inside stood at a tiny brown-haired girl and, of all people, Steve Rogers. Out of the 'spangly' uniform and in surprisingly civilian clothing. Nonetheless the scientist cracked a little smile. " Captain. " Presence announced, he took a couple of slow steps into the room, putting his hands in his pockets to keep them from hanging awkwardly at his sides. " Been a while. It's, good to see you. "
Indent And it was. All that time ago, Steve had been the second of the Avengers that he'd met, after Natasha. He'd been kind, polite, and most of all, had treated him like a person, not like a walking land mine. Naturally that had landed him in the man's good books - especially when it wasn't always easy for himself to see past the 'other guy.' There was no sign of Fury in the office, however, so he figured he'd be in for a bit of a wait.
