Why the hate for Carter so much? Jimmy Carter is a intelligent man who is the one out of three presidents that has (or had) a degree in the natural sciences (nuclear engineering) the others being Herbert Hoover and James Garfield.

You're not helping yourself. If you didn't notice, Hoover wasn't all that great of a president, nor was Garfield really that fantastic either.

In all fairness, Garfield only got to be president 200 days because a dude shot him.

James Garfield, I find would have done well if he lived to serve his term, though that is a what-if, since we really don't know. I can only base this on what he did before.

After Andrew Johnson left office. Rutherford B. Hayes blocked any attempts to further Reconstruction. James Garfield felt that the south was failing in every way of allowing African-Americans the right to suffrage to blocking them into office. Another issue was the establishment of universal education for all citizens. Hiram College is were he studied and became a professor and president of the college. He taught mainly classes in Latin, Greek, mathematics, history, philosophy, rhetoric and English literature.

He was also general during the American Civil War too, but voting for somebody whose been in the military isn't something I really care for in a president. Since history shows they tend to be sub-average to really bad.

Most presidents that the United States of America ever had were bad or sub-average. I'm fully aware of one presidents stated being in office for a two-hundred days and the other being in middle of the largest recession since the Long Depression. Some polices such as the Mexican Repatriation was used in desperation that broke federal law to starting polices that wouldn't have any effect till he left office. Being marred with holding onto 19th century polices in the 20th century effected him greatly, one of them being the gold standard and the other being placed on "volunterism".

My point is the failures (or unfulfillment) of a president doesn't mean that president is unintelligent.

I never said it did mean that. If I am not mistaken, you stated Carter was a good president? Then you stated that he was smart. I said that you comparing him to Hoover and Garfield to make this point isn't helping that position.

My question? When he followed that up with the comment 'we need to get more people working so more are paying taxes', that seems to get lost in the shuffle. Can they not hear beyond one sentence at a time? (And what of that Virginia Senate candidate that wants everyone to pay some amount in federal taxes? Where's the screaming over that?)
Personally, I'd rather have more people employed and paying taxes than 47% NOT paying any.

Now, if we're going with the video that was leaked on Monday as Mitt's "final coffin nail", a survey from Gallup on Tuesday indicates that the video has had a net negative of 16% for registered voters.

But here's the interesting part: while the number of independents (AKA THE ONES WHO MATTER) that are less likely to vote for Romney now because of his comments is larger than those who are more likely to vote for him (29-15, respectively), there's this crucial detail that 53% of independents responding that Romney's comments don't make a difference on how they'll vote.

In other words, the majority of independents apparently don't give a damn about what Romney said at some private fundraiser (and even if when you consider the +/- 5.5 margin of error, 48.5% is still a significant chunk of the independent vote).

[On a related note, there's this one little detail that keeps bugging me about the whole "Romney 47%" video: this was a private fundraiser event that was $50,000 per person, right? Who in their right mind pays $50k to attend a fundraiser for a candidate, secretly record said candidate, and then sends it to Democrats to use as political cannon fodder? You could buy two cars with that kind of money! Hell, why not donate that 50 grand to the actual campaign of the candidate you support!]

It should also be noted that as of today Gallup is reporting the race to be a 47-47 tie, and Rasmussen has it 47-45 in favor of Obama.

So don't be too quick to write off Romney just yet. We haven't even got to the debates, and those can be potential game changers. A lot can change in 46 days...

Romney does something stupid I don't agree with? Sure. I don't see much of any way to get worse than we are right now. Personally, I'd rather have more people employed and paying taxes than 47% NOT paying any.

The "47% don't pay taxes" is a discredited meme. How many times must this be pointed out to you? The only taxes they're not paying is the federal income tax. Which, incidentally, when they originated, only targetted the first few top percent.

Now if you want the history of the meme itself, check here. For tl;dr people, the phases are:

1. WSJ argues in 2002 that Bush shouldn't have tax breaks for the non-rich since there are so many "lucky duckies" already. Bush should focus on people earning over $250,000.

2. The AEI in the Obama era. Here, the specific percentage given is 30%, who "reject the free enterprise system culturally" and who "twists equality of opportunity into equality of outcome."

3. Paul Ryan in 2011. Gives it as 49%. The social safety net is identified as something evil in se.

4. Reason magazine talking to Jim DeMint. It's going to be just like Greece!

Oh, and Paul Ryan has been caught in his own embarassing moment:
