Hey howdy hey its me once again,

I was just PMing about about abilities and would like to get some more opinions from more people and was hoping I could set up a discussion thread on abilities

What I am hoping for is the ability for the group to rate abilities, suggest strategies, who could use it, and even just say what makes the ability work or fail

If you would like to suggest an ability to rate post it and lets see if we can figure out what to talk about next time, I really wanna make it about a week for each ability so we can keep moving on and really concentrate on one ability at a time

and feel free to mention and explain why a pokemons other abilities are better or more useful on the individual pokemon and just to post about why you like this ability or what pokemon you use it on, if I get enough I will happily add which pokemon gets the most use outta the ability

I would like it if everyone when posting about an ability rate it using a number
(1-10)

so that way at the end of the week I can get the average and post it and keep the list of abilities so people can come by and get a quick summary of the ability and the players' rating

I am starting with moxie because I feel like its an ability that is overrated

I admit getting stronger as you knock out your opponents is great
but I feel like unless you got a bulky pokemon, or an amazing sweeper you will never get more than one boost in any real fight

I admit when it works its good but I wouldnt rely on it I give it a
5

just because I feel like in some fights youll never even know the pokemon has it cause it wont be able to use it

Did you guys know that moxie and outrage are illegal in some tournaments on a salamence
but personally I would stick to intimidate
the stat drop has randomly saved my salamence from ice shard pokemon on a daily basis

not yet I actually havent seen too many gyrados online now that I think about it
truth be told gyrados dont scare me on the whole

huh?
I actually do think that gyrados can benefit cause its biggest weakness is electric which is most often a special attack and losing intimidate wouldnt change that weakness or give it a chance other than the random thunder punch and wild charge which the drop in attack could be nice

I honestly think gyrados and salamence can exploit moxie the most
but the latter I would still rather have intimidate
never actually used a gyrados before

Scrafty can exploit it rather well, too. Either Bulk-Up or Dragon Dance sets both love all the attack they can get.

Moxie is one of the best abilities in the game for one reason: It gives you a bonus for doing what your Pokemon is supposed to do anyways - beat other Pokemon.
Normally, beating a Pokemon does nothing for your current Pokemon, but getting a free attack boost to make it even more capable of beating whatever gets thrown out against it next? Incredible.

It's all about maximizing your resources. Why waste a moveslot on a stat-boosting move when you have an ability that will do it for you, freeing up a moveslot for more type-coverage?

On a side note, I really like the idea of a topic to discuss strategies based on abilities.
It let's us figure out the intricacies of competitive battling, such as resource management and game tempo.

Um, here is a little something I found out about moxie, It DOES activate when you knock out your own pokemon in triples and doubles.

I really like this description and explaination

I admit its a great ability on paper and overall, and dont get the idea IM someone who usually gives stat boosting abilities I'd rather go guns ablazing and just power my way through everything

I was actually thinking how overall I think scrafty is the best pokemon for moxie cause it has the best defenses, and on top of that its unique typing makes it so it only has two weaknesses, so it will be able to take a punch and at least strike back, but it may need a boost to its attack just to start using its ability

however Salamence will more likely get to use this ability and not fear anything cause it is the fastest moxie pokemon

I mean it really is a kewl ability but you have to admit if the pokemon is too slow or has bad defenses it will have trouble getting more than one moxie boost
I know its good its arguable one of the greatest ideas for an ability but in a number of fights itll get used for some of its owners
ya know

I dont wanna argue good or bad, cause I admit its good I just think the pokemon that get it need improvement or a good stat boost to really exploit it

Oh, I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative sad

I do see your point about speed and bulk, though.
The only way I could see to remedy that would be to build your team around that weakness.
An Agility-Passer would help the frail Moxie users to sweep. Pokemon like Venomoth with Sleep Powder, Gorebyss w/ Shell Smash and White Herb, and Jolteon are my favorites for passing speed boosts, but you could use Ninjask too if you like that strategy.

Moonlight Hunter

I like the idea of this thread and Moxie. I'm not a competitive battler, but I do like discussing strategies. I've never used Moxie before, truth be told. (My Krookodile has Intimidate instead) But it sounds pretty badass. I liked the possibility of Moxie + Outrage, but that got banned. It sounds broken. I'm kind of rambling, aren't I? XD;;

nnonononononononononono no
I was worried I come off as arguing I admit I dont care for the ability and do not know if I would use it but I am one of those both sides of the fence person
ex: tax hike
hate it cause it takes money from people, but understand if its going to fund more police officers ya know

but in topics like this Im willing to be the good guy and bad guy for everything like someone was badmouthing klutz, I dont like klutz but I know why its there and think its strategies are clever, so I was more then willing to stop up for poor defenseless klutz, so if someone comes in saying how good or bad something is I gotta at least present a counter arguement

because it gets people thinking like the second part of your response

smell smash/ white herb, that is a great idea no lost but all boosts
I think aside from dragon dance a speed passer would be the best thing a little speed would go a long way with a pokemon with literally the best sweeping ability
though I was just thinking how a sub punching scrafty has a unique niche cause of its slower speed

although I think a revenge kill would do the trick ya know weaken the opponent, or even activate the opponents focus sash or sturdy, and fake out it and get the boost on the switch out ya know
