RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
Some Richmond Redskins fans claim they were ambushed on The Daily Show and are now threatening to sue Comedy Central if the network doesn't take down clips of the show that have now gone viral.
"It got really hostile, really quick," said Redskins fan Charles Barr.
Barr appeared in a Comedy Central segment featuring a Redskins Fan Panel and a Native American Panel.
"That instantly made most of us ask, 'Are we going to be filmed at the same time? Are we going to be in the same building?'" recalls Barr. "They said, 'No. We wouldn't put you across the table from them. It is way too serious for the Daily Show. We wouldn't put you in that kind of situation.'"
Barr was stunned to later be confronted by the panel of Native Americans.
"The hairs stand up on the back on your neck and you're like, 'what is getting ready to happen?'" questioned Barr. "We were scared. It got really heated. There was yelling and screaming. We went on a comedy show, and we knew that going into that it's a comedy show. But I never expected the level of deceit that we got."
Barr's attorney immediately sent a letter to the Daily Show saying, "My clients do not consent to the use of their image. The agreements were procured under false pretenses."
Attorneys for the Daily Show's parent company responded saying in part, "The Native American panel behaved in a dignified and non-threatening manner. The show stands by the piece."
Attorney Chap Petersen represents the fans.
"It's not funny at all," said Petersen. "And they need to be in contact with us, and tell us how they plan to make this right. My clients have been damaged. They have been put on national TV and effectively portrayed as racist in a way that is absolutely unfair."
Barr is prepared to take legal action.
"If it takes us suing them to get us to take the video down," said Barr. "We're not going to stop until the video is down."
The Daily Show did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
